Boston is a great American rock band who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great songs such as "Foreplay/Long Time", "Peace Of Mind", "Rock & Roll Band", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Feelin' Satisfied", Smokin'", "We're Ready", "Amanda", "Hitch A Ride", "Hollyann", "Cool The Engines" etc.

great reaction aileen... over 47 years ago (i.e. september 19, 1976) boston debut self titled album was released. the stunning title track "more than a feeling" took five years for the musical genius tom scholz to complete while working his day job as an engineer for polaroid. the arrangement and all the creative musical instruments were performed by scholz in his studio except for the drums which were developed by jim masdea and played by sib hashian. the lyrics are based on losing someone close and how music allows one to connect to memories from the past. all vocals (lead and backup) where provided by the late brad delp. the album became one of the biggest success stories of the 1970s and still considered one of the best rock albums ever... since the music was entirely created in studio, tom actually put a band together afterwards in order to go on tour. crazy what effect one person's dream can have so many others through music. enjoy and have a good week 😎
Tom was also a genius with a masters degree in electrical engineering. He created many of his own effect pedals and built his entire studio that he recorded Boston I on
This album held the record as the largest selling debut album by any artist for roughly 14 years until it was eclipsed by Guns N Roses' "Appetite for Destruction"
Not many can come close to a perfect debut album like Boston did. Definitely one of the the top debuts ever, The Cars also had a great debut album. When I think of elite first albums, I think of these two.
You know, I've never heard anyone say a bad word about this song. No matter who you are, it just invites you in with a big friendly smile, and it's glorious. Brad Delp was the lead singer. Amazing voice. Sadly, he suffered from depression, and in 2007 he took his own life. Such a loss. Another thing: everyone who knew him said he was a great person: friendly, kind, gentle, down to earth, a regular guy and a great neighbor (for example, he helped people mow their lawns). When he died, the band's website said "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

Interesting note, neither of them played drums on the "showcase" performance the record company wanted prior to signing Scholz and Delp ot that first contract. David Currier played drums for that "tryout".
@Lookusa That is some fiction for sure. Barry plays on three songs. Fran plays on two songs, and Brad plays acoustic guitar on one song on the record. Tom was forced to tell the truth in sworn legal documents involved in the Goodreu vs Scholz lawsuit Tom most certainly did not mix this record in his home studio. Toms scully 12 track tape machine and console could not begin to handle the mixing of this record. This record was mixed at Westlake Studios. and this is all well documented as fact. All of Brads vocals were recorded in big name studios in LA by Boylan and this is a well documented fact. The band as pictured on the back of this record existed before this record was finished and before any tour was even planned. The band as pictured on the back of the record recorded three songs at The Record Plant LA with Boylan. "Hitch a Ride" the ultimate 70s summer rock anthem. Top down, riding through the New England countryside skipping school with my friends, 8-track blasting - the best of times!!
From Boston's debut album, which is a masterpiece. My favorite Boston song is "Peace of Mind". The lead singer is Brad Delp, who sadly took his own life in 2007.
I've been around and played bands as a guitarist, 64 years and I've never heard a voice as powerful and prolonged as Brad Delp's.. I understand this was mixed in a basement by one of the bands members who was into that stuff..But the kicker is, they could deliver as good playing LIVE !!! RIP Brad , your missed.
Wasn't just mixed. it was recorded in Tom Sholtz's studio he built in his apartment Basement. Sholtz played everything except the drums on this record. Rest of the band was hired so they could tour. Sholtz has a Master's degree in Engineering from MIT. Built a hugely successful company with the Rockman and Powersoak. When he wanted a particular sound, he invented a device to produce the sound. He also was an excellent Hammond organ player.
@@tomthemusicandoutdoorsguy3376 It is very well documented that this record was mixed at Westlake Studios by Boylan, Warren Dewey and Tom with assistance from Steve Hodge. In addition there are 5 musicians playing instrument tracks in this record other than Tom and Tom was forced to admit this in legal documents involved in the law suit between Tom and Barry

Bigger crime is being omitted from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but Sholz refused to acquiesce to record company demands and thus has a strained relationship with the business. No worries his net worth is rumored to be in excess of 100 million.
One of the most perfect songs written, produced and performed with an equally perfect line up of musicians ever! Your face was just like mine when I 1st heard this one about 48yrs ago? I was barely 21myself... and I still get goose bumps everytime...thanks for your reaction...thumbs up and shared👍
I looked out this morning and the sun was gone Turned on some music to start my day I lost myself in a familiar song I closed my eyes and I slipped away It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling) I begin dreaming (more than a feeling) Till I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away So many people have come and gone Their faces fade as the years go by Yet I still recall as I wander on As clear as the sun in the summer sky It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling) I begin dreaming (more than a feeling) Till I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away When I'm tired and thinking cold I hide in my music, forget the day And dream of a girl I used to know I closed my eyes and she slipped away She slipped away It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling) I begin dreaming (more than a feeling) Till I see Marianne walk away
"Don't Look Back", "Foreplay/Longtime", "Amanda", and "A Man I'll Never Be" are my favorites from Boston. "Don't Look Back" is a speeding ticket song LOL. You'll know what I mean when you hear it. Great reaction as always.
This first Boston album is widely regarded to be one of the best debut albums in rock music history. You will probably get a lot of suggestions to work your way through it in sequence. Because this is literally the first song on their first album and this whole album is fire. And you will hear so much variety in it, and you will come to recognize their specific sound, and there is so much good bass guitar playing on some of these songs, and everybody was wonderful. I got to see them as a youngster in 77 and 78, and they were absolutely fantastic shows both times. I have seen several reactors do this after playing this first song, and it is fascinating to watch them fall in love with Boston.
That is the radio version of the song. The album version has another verse before the solo. Every song on the first two albums are all great songs. I would recommend Foreplay/Long Time, Piece of mind, and feeling satisfied as the next songs to react to.
Foreplay/ Longtime by Boston,,, ThereYaGo. Boston's first album was all done in the basement of Tom Schultz the lead guitarist. And the spaceships on the cover of the album are guitars. Brad Delp vocal range is out of this world. So sad he took his own life,, RIP Brad Delp.
When I was in high school I live and worked in a town North of Boston for a landscaper. On Fridays, we used to cut the lawn next to the drummer of Boston, Sib Hashian (R.I.P.)… We would plan so we were eating lunch on the curb on those sunny and warm Fridays. The band would rehearse at his home and we would just sit and listen… Thanks for the warm reminder of this very sentimental memory. Fun reaction and review 👊🏻 Oh, and how about four octave Brad Delp (R.I.P.)
You just put this album on and listen from beginning to end. Every song is "wow!" with a sound we had never heard the likes of before. Easily among the top rock albums of all time.
OMG Brad's voice is incredible!! His range and control is outta this world!! The music is awesome but just listen to that voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved you appricated this!!
My favorites of Boston are Don't look back, Amanda, Foreplay/Long Time. All of Boston's songs are good though what a great band. Thanks for the reaction.
Yeah you need to listen to BOSTON along with some KANSAS. Very similar vibe, and you're enjoying them both tremendously. Trust me, they go together. Upbeat, positive and ridiculous amount of talent.
Seeing this on the patreon schedule had me excited to see it since this was my first Boston song like many others I would imagine 😭 Didn’t even take you 2 minutes to start feeling the song with you clapping along and the smiles already ❤️
@RickF940 Impossible to pick top 3, but assuming its rock only, thus excluding the obvious Sinatra, off the top of my head, these guys I would all rank over Delp: Justin Hayward>Moody Blues Greg Lake>King Crimson, ELP John Wetton>Crimson, UK, Asia Steve Walsh>Kansas (70s) David Gilmour>Pink Floyd Phil Collins>Genesis David Pack>Ambrosia Steve Winwood>Traffic etc Donald Fagen>Steely Dan Burton Cummings>Guess Who Enrico Rosenbaum>Gypsy I'm also excluding female singers such as Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter etc
Welcome to the first single release off the biggest selling debut album of a group of all time. The entire album is KILLER !!! Check out other songs from the album, "PEACE OF MIND", "FOREPLAY/LONG TIME", "ROCK N ROLL BAND", "SMOKIN" etc etc.
Boston had some great music. It always warms my heart to see a younger generation discover the music I grew up with. Boston had some real rockers, but my favorite song of theirs was a ballad: "Amanda." It's well worth a listen. Loved your reaction, young lady.
Aileen, listen to the isolated vocal track, its available here on RUclips, and remember that this was made WAY WAY before autotune and the like. Boston is amazing. Glad you liked it :)
Boston's first album is probably the best single album ever made. Every song is fire. It is one of those albums you bring with you to a deserted isle for the rest of your life.
Fun Fact- Brad Delp did a vocal backer with the guitar after the line "slipped away." If you listen to the isolated vocal track you'll hear it. Brad Delp's voice is so powerful and beautiful. The band's synchronization on all fronts is what all bands need to aspire to. Who else LOVED playing this song on Guitar Hero 1?
Quintessential 70s rock. Great classic. We all wore out side one of their debut album. If I'm not mistaken, he wrote this while in high school about his cousin he had a crush on.
Look, I love you (in a non stalkerish, don't write poems about you kind of way) but I find it hard to believe that this is the first time you've ever heard this song.
Foreplay/Longtime, Peace of Mind and Amanda are great Boston songs. You know who I have been meaning to recommend. Since you love harmony’s the original Harmony Supergroup from the 60’s. Crosby, Stills and Nash and sometimes Young!! It was a group comprised of great singers from “The Hollies” (Graham Nash), “The Byrds” (David Crosby RIP) and “Buffalo Springfield” (Stephen Stills, Neil Young. See if you can find a version of “Suite Judy Blue Eyes” from Woodstock ‘69. They have tons of great songs and kept reuniting for tours throughout the last 6 decades. They are absolutely awesome. You should definitely give them a listen. “Teach Your Children”, “Love the One Your With”, “The Cost Of Freedom” and “Carry on” are my personal favorites. They have about 20 more great songs as well. Please add them to your playlist you will be happy you did.
Everyone I know of who listens to 70's and 80's rock and roll say they grew up in the wrong era. I was fortunate enough to live through it and attend just about every band of that era's concert to see them live. I don't think modern music has the same soul as it did back then but maybe its just me.
I would have been around 10 or 12 years old when I first heard this song and it was on a record player back in those days which was amazing sound on the right speed of rotation and a good needle on the stylus and a clean nonscratched vinyl record, you just can’t beat that sound unless live and listening to the band, Amazing, thank you for listening to them
Aileen I must admit extreme pride on my part for I saw Boston Live on their first world tour! Brad Delp's voice live was so crazy good! The world lost and incredible singer when he passed... Being a 16 year old during this time was so damn cool! The MUSIC was so damn GOOD! I LOVE how this music grabs your heart, you are someone special...
More Than a Feeling is one of the most iconic massive hit singles of the 1970s. It was all over the radio in 1976. The entire Boston debut album is fantastic, one of the best debut albums ever. Every song is good. The guitarist playing that searing lead, Tom Scholz, was a creative tech genius who went to MIT and literally created his own guitar technology. Great to see younger generations feel the joy I did at 16 years old when this came out (I immediately bought the album). A soundtrack album to my HS years. Your next song from this album should be Foreplay/Long Time. Just a tip....always best to pick the album version of great songs like this. This was the SHORTER radio edit. The full album version is 4:45 long. Always check the sources!
My father introduced me to boston at a very very young age I used to think some of the music sounded like a spaceship!!! They are one of my top 5 favorite bands ever My father passed away 3 days after 9/11 in the same way brad delp did later and i have a tattoo on my arm that is the spaceship/guitar on the first album cover , but with nyc in the bubble A tribute to my father and to new york The words "its been such a long time" on it too Boston has been a regular part of my listening for more than 40 years now and will be til the day i die Ive had the pleasure of seeing them live many times BOSTON FOREVER!!!! BRAD FOREVER MY DAD , JPD, FOREVER ❤ So so very glad you and your wonderful smile reacted to this incredible song
It went by fast because this was the shortened version. They cut out the second verse completely. They went from the first verse, to the second chorus, then guitar solo, final chorus and fade out. But there's another verse and chorus in the original.
Speaking as a proud boomer...HOW LUCKY WERE WE !!!?? This band in particular, and this music in general will never die. Soooo much great music that was all over the radio in the 60's and 70's (long before you could hit a key on your computer) was literally the background to our lives. I'm so glad that through your videos Aileen, more young people are discovering it some 50 and 60 years later. Thanks for sharing❤

Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
"Amanda" is Boston's only song to reach #1 and it's simply beautiful. Nice contrast to this one. Love your channel! :)
It's absolutely criminal that Boston didn't win the "Best New Artist" Grammy. CRIMINAL!
Or still not featured in "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame"
Starland vocal band won with the forgotten song afternoon delight meanwhile we still hear Boston songs on the radio to this day, the music of Boston has stood the test of time whereas starland vocal band hasn't even come close
Bigger crime is being omitted from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but Sholz refused to acquiesce to record company demands and thus has a strained relationship with the business. No worries his net worth is rumored to be in excess of 100 million.
There is no music like this music anymore.
Boston "Smokin" will get you rockin.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Boston. RIP to the late great Brad Delp, what a magnificent voice
😎I believe this song after hearing it for 40 years now is probably the Best Rock Song Ever!
Brad Delp was very special. A masterpiece of a vocalist.
One of the most perfect songs written, produced and performed with an equally perfect line up of musicians ever! Your face was just like mine when I 1st heard this one about 48yrs ago? I was barely 21myself... and I still get goose bumps everytime...thanks for your reaction...thumbs up and shared👍
Boston was way ahead of their time! If you want a good Boston song, just pick one, anyone!!
This is the radio version. There is another verse to this song
Yep. “So many people have come and gone. Their faces fade as the years go by….” Critical verse
I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away
So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away
When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
She skipped over the second verse
"Don't Look Back", "Foreplay/Longtime", "Amanda", and "A Man I'll Never Be" are my favorites from Boston. "Don't Look Back" is a speeding ticket song LOL. You'll know what I mean when you hear it. Great reaction as always.
One of the greatest classic rock songs of all time. I've heard it 1000's of times and still get goosebumps, every time.
I grew up South of Boston. Boston, Aerosmith, The Cars, J.Geils, all Boston bands.. Pretty good teenage years!!
Brad Delp and Tom Scholz...the dynamic duo
If your going down the Boston rabbit hole, I suggest, Boston- "Foreplay/Longtime" as your next iconic song by them!
Totally agree!!! Boston were amazing - up there with RUSH!
OMG Brad's voice is incredible!! His range and control is outta this world!! The music is awesome but just listen to that voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved you appricated this!!
RIP Brad Delp. Such a great singer..
My favorites of Boston are Don't look back, Amanda, Foreplay/Long Time. All of Boston's songs are good though what a great band. Thanks for the reaction.
Legend has it that he's holding that note to this very day
Maybe... 😂
Yeah you need to listen to BOSTON along with some KANSAS. Very similar vibe, and you're enjoying them both tremendously. Trust me, they go together. Upbeat, positive and ridiculous amount of talent.
Aileen pick any Song on the debut album every single song was a hit! The Album name is Boston 🥰🎸
Many (including me) consider this in the top 10 rock and roll debut albums of all time
@@KennethSavage-nn2vv and I will agree with you!!!
@@KennethSavage-nn2vv No one should be arguing with this. It just IS.
@@donkeydarko77 agree 👍🏻
I'm now 66 years old and I tell you it's more than a feeling when I hear this old song they used to play. It was an unreal time to grow up.
Your reactions are always so wonderful. It’s evident what a true lover of all music you are.
Foreplay/Longtime would be a great choice for your next Boston reaction. You'll love the intro!
Seeing this on the patreon schedule had me excited to see it since this was my first Boston song like many others I would imagine 😭 Didn’t even take you 2 minutes to start feeling the song with you clapping along and the smiles already ❤️
1st album is one of my all time favorites. Not one bad song...
100% Brad is in my opinion one of the 3 greatest voices in rock history.
😮🤪
@@kbrewski1 u agree or disagree?
@@RickF940
Not even close. He had a good voice, but no where near one of the top 3.
@@kbrewski1 so what is your top 3?
Mine is Steve Perry, Robert Plant, Brad
@RickF940
Impossible to pick top 3, but assuming its rock only, thus excluding the obvious Sinatra, off the top of my head, these guys I would all rank over Delp:
Justin Hayward>Moody Blues
Greg Lake>King Crimson, ELP
John Wetton>Crimson, UK, Asia
Steve Walsh>Kansas (70s)
David Gilmour>Pink Floyd
Phil Collins>Genesis
David Pack>Ambrosia
Steve Winwood>Traffic etc
Donald Fagen>Steely Dan
Burton Cummings>Guess Who
Enrico Rosenbaum>Gypsy
I'm also excluding female singers such as Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter etc
Welcome to the first single release off the biggest selling debut album of a group of all time. The entire album is KILLER !!! Check out other songs from the album, "PEACE OF MIND", "FOREPLAY/LONG TIME", "ROCK N ROLL BAND", "SMOKIN" etc etc.
RIP Brad Delp. That whole album is amazing. Also check out "Don't look Back" and "A Man I'll never Be". Keep rocking Girl!
Boston was a band with a timeless sound.
Boston had some great music. It always warms my heart to see a younger generation discover the music I grew up with. Boston had some real rockers, but my favorite song of theirs was a ballad: "Amanda." It's well worth a listen. Loved your reaction, young lady.
Best selling debut album of all time when it was released.
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... still #2.
EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
Aileen, listen to the isolated vocal track, its available here on RUclips, and remember that this was made WAY WAY before autotune and the like. Boston is amazing. Glad you liked it :)
Boston really is something special.
Boston's first album is probably the best single album ever made. Every song is fire. It is one of those albums you bring with you to a deserted isle for the rest of your life.
The drummer is Dwayne The Rock Johnson's father in law.
Sib Hashisn
Fun Fact- Brad Delp did a vocal backer with the guitar after the line "slipped away." If you listen to the isolated vocal track you'll hear it. Brad Delp's voice is so powerful and beautiful. The band's synchronization on all fronts is what all bands need to aspire to. Who else LOVED playing this song on Guitar Hero 1?
Great road to travel down , Boston's First album was full of Hits
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
Off their debut album, arguably one of the best debut rock album ever..every song is amazing
You will never forget your first time getting Delped.
Indeed. Hearing Boston for the first time was love at first hear. Brad grabbed me with his gorgeous tone and never let go.
The lead singer, Brad Delp, did all the vocals on their studio albums. Back-up and harmonies.....all the vocals you hear here, are Delp..........
Truly, this is one of the greatest songs of all time!
Quintessential 70s rock. Great classic. We all wore out side one of their debut album. If I'm not mistaken, he wrote this while in high school about his cousin he had a crush on.
Classic rock at its finest 🤘🏻🎸🔥
Back in the day this song was on the radio like once every half hour. Awesome opening when the guitar comes in.
Look, I love you (in a non stalkerish, don't write poems about you kind of way) but I find it hard to believe that this is the first time you've ever heard this song.
Agreed, but, maybe I could pen a few poetic lines if someone forced me to. lol.✌🏼
Best. Song. EVER! Listen to it with headphones at max volume to fully appreciate this song.
Aileen I got (I man I'll never be) from Boston thanks
First album front to back one of the best ever put out period
You will be satisfied with the bass line on every song on the first three albums. Every song is a clinic on bass riffs.
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
Lots of GREAT Boston tracks...!
My father introduced me to boston at a very very young age
I used to think some of the music sounded like a spaceship!!!
They are one of my top 5 favorite bands ever
My father passed away 3 days after 9/11 in the same way brad delp did later and i have a tattoo on my arm that is the spaceship/guitar on the first album cover , but with nyc in the bubble
A tribute to my father and to new york
The words "its been such a long time" on it too
Boston has been a regular part of my listening for more than 40 years now and will be til the day i die
Ive had the pleasure of seeing them live many times
BOSTON FOREVER!!!!
BRAD FOREVER
MY DAD , JPD, FOREVER
❤
So so very glad you and your wonderful smile reacted to this incredible song
It went by fast because this was the shortened version. They cut out the second verse completely. They went from the first verse, to the second chorus, then guitar solo, final chorus and fade out. But there's another verse and chorus in the original.
Great reaction! You're next Boston song should be" Foreplay/longtime ". Really anything from them, you can't go wrong.
From the number 1 album of all time….period.
I saw them live in the UK way way back at a place called Stafford Bingley Hall absolutely awesome concert
There is no one with a voice as amazing as him. This whole debut album is incredible
Wow! Brings me back to middle school. This always played on the radio and I burned out my vinyl hearing it sooo many times.
You should check out the whole 1st album... loaded with hits! The music I grew up with.
“Peace of Mind” by them should be next
Not a bad track on their debut album
Was a monster hit back in 76!
If you want a pretty ballad from them, try “A Man I’ll Never Be”
Welcome to the first song everybody ever heard from this band. One of if not the best Debut album by any band in history not a bad song on it.
This is one of if not the greatest rock songs in history..
RIP Brad Delp. Thank you Boston!!! I’m so thankful I’ve grown up to some of the best music EVER!!!
I saw Boston live many many many years ago, the Singer Brad Delp hit all those high notes, it was an amazing show!
