Brad played in a cover band Beatle Juice
They played Beatles songs all night
at Mosley's on the Charles in Dedham Ma
I went up to him and asked if he would play Across the Unverise
he looked to the heavens and said I love Across the Unverise with a smile,

@@31carrier So many talk about Brad's voice, but as you experienced, his smile and heart were even better. What a beautiful, gentle, humble, and caring soul. He was my college roommate's neighbor when he lived in Londonderry, I got to know him a little after 3rd Stage when RTZ was starting to pull together and would run into him around New England over the years. I last saw him about a year after his accident and not long before he left us. I do miss him.

Boston is a great American rock band who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great songs such as "Foreplay/Long Time", "Peace Of Mind", "Rock & Roll Band", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Feelin' Satisfied", Smokin'", "We're Ready", "Amanda", "Hitch A Ride", "Hollyann", "Cool The Engines" etc.

Yeah, of your suggestions I'd narrow it down to three for a follow-up.
"Foreplay / Longtime" - Overall composition and musicianship
"Amanda" - If she's diggin the harmonies here, "Amanda" takes it up notch.
"Peace of Mind" - We know she loves a good groovy vibe, lol... nice bluesy guitar section, but up-beat.
They're all great songs, but those are the three I think would hit her the hardest.

great reaction aileen... over 47 years ago (i.e. september 19, 1976) boston debut self titled album was released. the stunning title track "more than a feeling" took five years for the musical genius tom scholz to complete while working his day job as an engineer for polaroid. the arrangement and all the creative musical instruments were performed by scholz in his studio except for the drums which were developed by jim masdea and played by sib hashian. the lyrics are based on losing someone close and how music allows one to connect to memories from the past. all vocals (lead and backup) where provided by the late brad delp. the album became one of the biggest success stories of the 1970s and still considered one of the best rock albums ever... since the music was entirely created in studio, tom actually put a band together afterwards in order to go on tour. crazy what effect one person's dream can have so many others through music. enjoy and have a good week 😎

You know, I've never heard anyone say a bad word about this song. No matter who you are, it just invites you in with a big friendly smile, and it's glorious. Brad Delp was the lead singer. Amazing voice. Sadly, he suffered from depression, and in 2007 he took his own life. Such a loss. Another thing: everyone who knew him said he was a great person: friendly, kind, gentle, down to earth, a regular guy and a great neighbor (for example, he helped people mow their lawns). When he died, the band's website said "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

Did you know Aileen that all the instruments were preformed by one guy in his basement studio in Cambridge MA (next to Boston), He mixed the entire thing in his basement studio, except for the vocals, he found Brad Delp the singer and was amazed at his voice and had him do the vocals. I am from Boston, and know the story, He was signed by the record company after they listened to the album and his production talents, But, But, he had no band... HaHa, He produced everything in his garage as an M.I. T. graduate (Wicked Smahht), So the record company said, he we signed you, but under the condition you have to get a full band so we can tour.... So the creator of all this, Tom Shultz, said, ok, I will get a base player, lead guitarists, and drummer... And the rest is History!! This is my favorite produced song of the 70's... And there is a video on You Tube that shows exactly how he made this Song More than a feeling in his basement while he was in College at famous M.I.T. Everyone that likes this song go check it out, it's amazing the genius Tom Shultz was...........

Jim Masdea played the drums on the demo tapes created in Tom Scholz basement. Sib Hashian played drums on all but one song on the first album (and all songs on the 2nd). Masdea played drums on "Rock 'n Roll Band' on the first album. Hashian played on 3-4 songs on the 3rd album, and Masdea played the rest. Interesting note, neither of them played drums on the "showcase" performance the record company wanted prior to signing Scholz and Delp ot that first contract. David Currier played drums for that "tryout".

    • @neechee5150
      @neechee5150 2 месяца назад

@Lookusa That is some fiction for sure. As the other poster pointed out as documented in the liner notes of every copy of this record that was ever made, Sib played drums on all songs except for one and Jim Masdea played drums on that tune. Barry plays on three songs. Fran plays on two songs, and Brad plays acoustic guitar on one song on the record. Tom was forced to tell the truth in sworn legal documents involved in the Goodreu vs Scholz lawsuit
Tom most certainly did not mix this record in his home studio. Toms scully 12 track tape machine and console could not begin to handle the mixing of this record. This record was mixed at Westlake Studios. and this is all well documented as fact. All of Brads vocals were recorded in big name studios in LA by Boylan and this is a well documented fact.
The band as pictured on the back of this record existed before this record was finished and before any tour was even planned. The band as pictured on the back of the record recorded three songs at The Record Plant LA with Boylan. Only one song made it to the record and that song which was written by Brad was Let Me Take You Home. The band started out being called Mothers Milk, but that name was changed mid recording process at the recommendation of Boylan and Dewey. and Tom had to use what was left of that Mothers milk to do a live show before the record company would sign Tom and Brad.
Brad had been singing with Tom on live gigs and other demos years before this record was released. Barry introduced Tom to Brad back in 1969/1970 about the time when Tom auditioned to play keyboards in Barry's band.

Driving down the road as a teen with music like this song playing for free on our radio... and we just thought this was normal ;-) This song peaked at #5 December 25, 1976 stayed at 5 for 2 weeks. This blows me away because looking back I think it tromps the top 5, but then again there are ones below it form Queen, the Eagles, Elton John, and more that all gave strong competition for air time. see The Real American Top 40 Wiki. This first Boston album is widely regarded to be one of the best debut albums in rock music history. You will probably get a lot of suggestions to work your way through it in sequence. Because this is literally the first song on their first album and this whole album is fire. And you will hear so much variety in it, and you will come to recognize their specific sound, and there is so much good bass guitar playing on some of these songs, and everybody was wonderful. I got to see them as a youngster in 77 and 78, and they were absolutely fantastic shows both times.

Impossible to pick top 3, but assuming its rock only, thus excluding the obvious Sinatra, off the top of my head, these guys I would all rank over Delp:
      Justin Hayward>Moody Blues
      Greg Lake>King Crimson, ELP
      John Wetton>Crimson, UK, Asia
      Steve Walsh>Kansas (70s)
      David Gilmour>Pink Floyd
      Phil Collins>Genesis
      David Pack>Ambrosia
      Steve Winwood>Traffic etc
      Donald Fagen>Steely Dan
      Burton Cummings>Guess Who
      Enrico Rosenbaum>Gypsy
I'm also excluding female singers such as Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter etc

Foreplay/Longtime, Peace of Mind and Amanda are great Boston songs. You know who I have been meaning to recommend. Since you love harmony’s the original Harmony Supergroup from the 60’s. Crosby, Stills and Nash and sometimes Young!! It was a group comprised of great singers from “The Hollies” (Graham Nash), “The Byrds” (David Crosby RIP) and “Buffalo Springfield” (Stephen Stills, Neil Young. See if you can find a version of “Suite Judy Blue Eyes” from Woodstock ‘69. They have tons of great songs and kept reuniting for tours throughout the last 6 decades. They are absolutely awesome. You should definitely give them a listen. “Teach Your Children”, “Love the One Your With”, “The Cost Of Freedom” and “Carry on” are my personal favorites. They have about 20 more great songs as well. Please add them to your playlist you will be happy you did.

Everyone I know of who listens to 70's and 80's rock and roll say they grew up in the wrong era. I was fortunate enough to live through it and attend just about every band of that era's concert to see them live. I don't think modern music has the same soul as it did back then but maybe its just me.

More Than a Feeling is one of the most iconic massive hit singles of the 1970s. It was all over the radio in 1976. The entire Boston debut album is fantastic, one of the best debut albums ever. Every song is good. The guitarist playing that searing lead, Tom Scholz, was a creative tech genius who went to MIT and literally created his own guitar technology. Great to see younger generations feel the joy I did at 16 years old when this came out (I immediately bought the album). A soundtrack album to my HS years.
Your next song from this album should be Foreplay/Long Time.
Just a tip....always best to pick the album version of great songs like this. This was the SHORTER radio edit. The full album version is 4:45 long. Always check the sources!

It went by fast because this was the shortened version. They cut out the second verse completely. They went from the first verse, to the second chorus, then guitar solo, final chorus and fade out. But there's another verse and chorus in the original.
