This movie was terrifying, well written, and engrossing. Don’t know why critics panned it. Also this scene....holy crap it was intense in theaters haha.
Charles Hubbard the movie achieves on lots of fronts but I think the final result still doesn’t tie together well enough to call it a “masterpiece” as some people do. I love a lot of the individual scenes but find a lot of the movie lacking in substance.... also the dialogue and acting are meh
The scariest part about this is that besides the bad eyesight, ability to mimic voices, longer head and the mutated appearence this is basicly a normal grizzly bear. Its as fast as a grizzly bear, its as strong as a grizzly bear and it takes just as many bullets.

To make it even scarier it isn’t just mimicking her voice! When it killed the girl she was basically absorbed into it. The screams are her conscious crying for help forever trapped in her final moments. You can see it partially has a human skull merged into it.

i love monster designs, a lot of designs don’t freak me out but something about this one just makes me uncomfortable and ill; the way the bear skull is infused together with its victims human skull is so chilling, and so is the mimicking of the victims last screams and please for help.
This scene was so uniquely scary in the sense that what happened was so unfathomably unnatural. Most movies play off of tired tropes but this was so out of left field. Excellent film!

I saw another scene similar from an alien movie where some people were stranded. One of them got picked off and soon the rest heard his cries for help. They found him in the middle of a clearing, but it looked like a trap so they voted to leave him there. However, one of the compassionate ones shot him from afar only he kept calling for help. (his back was turned.)
Creature design is a goddamn lost art at this point. You get maybe one movie a year where someone makes a cool monster now. And this was the movie for 2018.
Peace through superior firepower is what I always preach for that exact reason. Why hit it with a shovel when you can bitch slap it with a gravity hammer instead?

the one problem i had throughout the movie that didn't bug me but i was still curious about, was that all the organisms grew their mutated parts, even though gene scrambling only causes mutations in offspring and not the parent.
This is Cosmic Horror, not bio-horror...I think the extra-dimensional alien entity was changing reality itself, and so with that, what is possible within reality.
That scream sounds like someone being digested alive inside that creature. Anything could happen in a unexplored dimension. Like being eaten whole in some magical way.
I watched this movie months ago but I'm still having pictures of this monster. I wanted to see it again after so many months. Still freaks me out. I hope I got a little bit more used to it now and won't see it again at nights when I close my eyes.
This scene really stuck with me for a WHILE. Between the way the bear mimics people and kills that woman, it really shook me up. But now I’ve come to find this scene to be so badass! Definitely one of the coolest (and scary) creatures I’ve seen in a movie so far.

That creature does exist but it’s not in the bear form. It’ll look like a dog but can stand up right as a human. When it screams it’ll make the same noise as the last person it encountered
@@PhaseBryte actually the until dawn wendigo is probably the most accurate depiction of the creature, remember it was a human before it resorted to cannibalism which turned it into the windigo, the skinwalker on the other hand would be more likely in this case as they can shape shift into other animals

What's interesting to me, and I'm just thinking a thought, that it doesn't understand the words it's mimicking at all. It's waiting on the last words. To the monster, those last words are the same calls of a wild animal that are screaming for help as it's slaughtered. Those are not words, they're essentially bird calls for humans. You can't understand the chirp of a dying animal but you know for sure that it's dying and you can use those calls to your advantage. Could you imagine what "words" you're using with a bird call or an deer call? Absolutely curious.
IVE got a theory about this little guy. *probably spoilers!!!!!*. ( the bear owo ) whatever he kills becomes part of his soul right? Well he has killed 2 people. Didn’t eat a single one. What if he doesn’t feed on flesh, but on souls? That would explain why the girls didn’t hear him making any human like sounds when they first encountered him. THEY heared the fence and grass. Then he killed one of the girls, and mimmiced her screams and voice. THEY found the girl dead, but not eaten. Thing’s hé kills become part of his soul, and mayb ehe feeds on the souls. Maybe he needs to find a soul to feed on in time and use the souls ITS last words, screams, and sounds to lure others of its kind so he could feed on they’re souls aswell. ( I didn’t watch any explain videos of this part because I like to stick to my own theory. ) sorry for spelling mistakes!
