Stusel yeah the only similarities between the witcher demons and this is the antlers. But the fuzed human body head of this thing is just so disturbing
I love how the creators were showing only single shots of the monster to make us want to know what it really is and then actually showing it in the end, many creators dont do it
I love that the animal part of the monster behaves like a regular quadroped animal, and then arms make such human gestures. When it rears up and the hands on the abdomen extend with the palms towards heaven, and the ones on the head come together as if in prayer.
The creature would’ve been that scary if it was just a scary monster, but because the village people prayed to it and made it like a god it made it more scary.
Fantastic monster. Beautifully designed. Horrifying. But beautiful and intricate. Fascinating how it loves to be worshiped. Excellent horror movie, I was so hungry for the monster reveal so I was really happy we saw it. Excellent movie about trauma.
that's such a cool design. it's like religious imagery rendered realistically. just modelling various religious entities could produce so many cool and terrifying monsters.
@@ThreeGoddesses In the book, yes. They also refer to its name, Moder, in the book. However in the movie they are afraid of saying its name, referring to it as 'the bastard son of loki', so you are both right
Old comment, but it's actually kind of neat: it technically has eight arms (Excluding the ones on top that form the antlers), which connects it to another norse mythological figure: Sleipnir, a giant eight legged horse. Placing the extra hands there does look a little silly, because penishands, but at the same time, their placement adds to the style that the creature is seemingly made up of stitched together bodies, instead of being a natural animal, and furthermore, they add a certain level of vertical symmetry in 1:00 when the creature rears up, looking almost like a totem pole
great film. worth a watch. those human arms make it so much creepier. the scene in the woods, before the big reveal at the end, where it can barely be seen ya just see a hand grab a tree..money
Okay giving it the human hands as tusk and beheaded torso as face as head was amazing. It looks terrifying in every manner. At first it looks like an animal chewing on a human , from afar . Very terrifying to look at.
The translation for Jötunn is rather misleading as not all were large in physical nature. I don't think I have actually ever called them giants as my grandmother never referred to them as such when she told me stories about them. One such Jötunn Skaði, was depicted as being rather small and exceedingly beautiful. There are a few others I believe but I can see why people refer to them as giants when one of the most popular Jötunn, Ymir, is immense in size.
I wish we could get a sequel to this movie, there are a lot of directions this thing could go in. How does he explain the death of all of his friends that he went on a hiking trip with, how would a "series" address the existence of the Norse mythology being real, the protagonist could perhaps encounter Thor or Odin on their way to destroy this rogue child of Loki, or perhaps a secret organization run by mankind to hunt down and destroy all jöten that have invaded midgard and they need the protagonist's information about his experience with the creature. It also brings up questions such as why hasn't this rogue jöten been expelled from midgard in Odin's war to rid the world of giants (have they left man to defend itself, has Ragnarok happened and there is no Asgard to protect mankind ?) These are all questions that could be answered in a second movie and perhaps even a third
I didn't think much of it before but last night watching this video on my TV, I really got horrified by the way it looks and moves, this is the first time I've gotten this scared of something.

This was one of the most original and unique creature designs I have seen on film in many years.
It looks like something that could give the Silent Hill monsters a run for their money.
Actually not so original and unique, look for Fiend monster in the Witcher 3.
@@Azathoth13 Wow. Thanks for bringing this to light, you are correct that it is VERY similar. Hmmm... well done, sir.

It's a moose with human bodies.
I love when monsters manage to be graceful and horrifying at the same time.
I love how the creators were showing only single shots of the monster to make us want to know what it really is and then actually showing it in the end, many creators dont do it
I thought it was just gonna be another blair witch movie where I ended watching the movie saying "what the fuck does the monster even look like"
With the exception of Cloverfield.
Shout out to fucking bird box
cumquat They actually had good reasoning for not showing them.
Duc Minh Ngo Ha, your funny.
loved the way it moved, made the impression of actual weight

Probably one of my favorite creature designs in the last decade. Kudos.

One of the coolest movie monsters I've seen in years!! This and the bear from Annihilation. Awesome job!
Indeed I personally prefer this kind of occult ant mytholodical horrors. I am not saying that Annihilation was not good, but I like the Ritual better.
Both amazing.
This has to be the weirdest species of giraffe I’ve ever seen.
So it would seem
It’s clearly a dog I can’t believe you don’t see it
Doomboy105 David Attenborough has left chat
Its a mythical forest guardian, usually called a Leshen. They’ve got them in The Witcher 3 game.
I seen a Moose
Fantastic monster. Beautifully designed. Horrifying. But beautiful and intricate. Fascinating how it loves to be worshiped. Excellent horror movie, I was so hungry for the monster reveal so I was really happy we saw it. Excellent movie about trauma.
I love that they actually established weight to it and made it move like how a big animal of that size and shape would move.
Thats one messed up moose. Coolest movie monster in decades. Really enjoyed the movie.
that's such a cool design. it's like religious imagery rendered realistically. just modelling various religious entities could produce so many cool and terrifying monsters.
To this date, it is still the most brilliant monster ever made!

I think theyre SUPPOSED to be penis arms, just to add to the monstrosity of this thing
This is my favorite movie, the design of everything is just so real, even the way everybody talks is real sounding.
I love this creature. He reminds me of the Kathoga. He's huge yet graceful.
Moder is actually a female :)
@@wackyrootrash8633 How did you know that?
@@raymaxruan1098 The director said so.
Moder is Swedish for "mother".
Song used was "Resident Evil 2 Save Room Theme Synthwave Cover"

I think the purpose of those is to fuck the living shit out of you without letting go

emanciated bodies, angular limbs and a head that looks like a flower made out of flesh and teeth
Probably not going to watch the movie because im not a big fan of horror movies but damn is this cool
You should. I hate horror but this doesn't use cheap jumpscares. It's more about the characters
this was 3 years ago, nowadays i go crazy for horror stuff

Its named Jötunn-Race of giants in Norse mythology

Actually the crew admitted in an interview that it's name was Modor or Modar, Which is basically Mother in Old Form Scandinavian.
But will he show up in good of war 5
@rappak prist Did the creators says anything about its gender?
Not too sure. I only know about what they referred to it as. I would assume they would address it as a she if it's name meant mother.
