- Ian Connor is one of the most enigmatic, influential, yet controversial figures in streetwear. In this video we look at how he became Tumblr famous, joined A$AP Rocky and the rest of the A$AP Mob, befriended the likes of Virgil Abloh and Kanye West, as well as his own ventures into fashion including Revenge x Storm and Sicko. Along the way we also address some of his controversies including the allegations against him, his feuds with Asspizza and Theophilus London, as well as why he is currently in jail. Ian was really one of the first social media influencers.. this guy who is 5 ft tall and very unpleasant looking( I've seen him in person. he's the size of a 9 year old boy) and yet everyone was trying to dress like him it was maddening.. you would go into soho and literally see Ian clones(usually white kids)

Ian and drake met all the way back in his tumblr days. There’s a picture of them together back in like 2012. Drake let rocky open up a show for him and way back then. I think that’s where the connection is from

He posted the picture on his Instagram saying “that time I told drake no new friends” many years ago but that’s a lot of scrolling. Ian also went on tour with Rihanna and they used to date so there’s that too. Also the bathroom selfie’s started in 2012 pre wiz.

@@ZZZX369 I remember when this happened. It was some issue with PayPal, I think people could charge back money after they paid for shoes and then they got shoes and their money back. I never used paypal, so I’m not 100% sure it was exactly like this. I also remember Ian asking people who got shoes for free to pay him on his IG story. It was all round fashion side of the internet.
He did a great job of building solid connections with people who are in the industry.
He's popular because of how he dresses, his job styling celebs and collaborations but tbh he did get a bit lucky because all the people he met and were close to were starting to blow up in their careers.
It was easy to hang out with rocky, carti etc because they weren't so big yet.

it’s pretty well known that after ian fought theo in paris he started to get a lot of hate and accusations and because of that kanye’s manager told kanye to take pastelle back from him.
The Theophilus fight had me lose respect for him.

This channel is really a fascinating look into this particular subculture. However i cannot be the only one to notice how most of the stories have far more to do with hype than with any sort of aesthetics. 'Brands' seem to get popular because of who is wearing them rather than what they look like. The designs are almost an afterthought, they're barely even mentioned.
This channel should be called Hypeducation rather than Threaducation. And from that perspective, it is a completely fascinating look at how proximity to celebrity is the primary currency of this subculture.
Reminds of the Lester Bangs quote from almost famous about the the music business turning into an industry of cool. This has to be the purest distillation of an industry that's almost entirely about 'cool'. And fittingly, channels like these do make sanctimonious videos about the genius of these fashion stars...
