As a young teenager in the 1960s I built one of these Revell models of Oriana ...she was a near-new ship in those days and called at my home city of Melbourne regularly. The model graced my parent's pianola along with models of the Canberra and United States too.

I saw the Oriana and also the Canberra in Wellington NZ in the early 1960's. I am sure it had the yellow / gold funnel and Hull. I never sailed on it, so looking into it from the Wharf, it looked like a whole "other world" to this youngster. I still have a sweet spot for such ships.

Hi, yes my favourite ship, I cruised on her 3 times too in the 70's under the P&O flag. Built for speed she could leave many ships far behind. By today's standard she looks like a heavy battle cruiser but was much loved by many passengers. I have a large painting of her on my lounge wall right now. Truly miss this great ship, the last of her type.
Your model is pretty rare now, look after her! Regards JH UK ;-)

I note that you said the "ORIANA" hull was "Yellow" at some stage. I hope you don't mind if I correct you on that colour. ORIANA was NEVER PAINTED YELLOW. A little bit of history on the Oriana and all other ships which names started with the letter "O" Oriana, Orsova, Oronsay, Orcades and all other "O" BOATS as they were known were ships of the ORIENT STEAM NAVIGATION LINE, which was an British Company At that time (in the late 1950s to mid 19760s) all Orient Line Ships were painted with a CORN COLOURED HULL. AT the water line, the paint was a band of GREEN, and below the GREEN BAND the hull below the waterline was RED. Each of the "O" BOATS had a WHITE COLOURED SUPERSTRUCTURE, and a CORN COLOURED FUNNEL. The Three sister ships; ORCADES, ORONSAY & ORSOVA had a BLACK WELSH BONNET on the top of the funnel. Only those three ships were fitted with the WELSH BONNET. ORIANA which went into service in 1960 was also painted in CLASSIC ORIENT LINE COLOURS. IN 1960, THE ORIENT STEAM NAVIGATION LINE AND THE PENINSULA & ORIENT LINE (KNOWN AS P & O) merged . At this initial stage, the Peninsula & Orient Line and the Orient Steam Navigation Line (Both British Lines) ships maintained their respective colours. The P&O Ships were all painted white with a CORN COLOURED FUNNEL.
P&O and Orient Line were formally merged in 1960 to form P&O & Orient Lines. In 1964, Orcades and Oronsay were transferred to the P&O fleet. The name Orient Line was dropped altogether in 1966 when Orsova and Oriana were also transferred to the P&O fleet.
Following the merger, all ships of the now P & O Line was painTed all WHITE HULL AND WHITE SUPERSTRUCTURE. Only the Funnels on all P & O Ships were painted in the CORN COLOUR. ORIANA was also painted all white post 1966. I hope that helps you when it comes to the paint chart for your model. I wonder if I can buy a model of ORIANA and ORONSAY if they are still available. Cheers mate.
