- Hikawa Maru (氷川丸) is a Japanese ocean liner that was launched in September 1929 and made her maiden voyage from Kobe to Seattle in May 1930. She and her sister ships ran regular services between Yokohama, Vancouver and Seattle and was the epitome of luxury travel in it's time. Nicknamed "The Queen of the Pacific", notable celebrities like Charlie Chaplin travelled on her as part of his world tour in 1932.
During the second world war, she was converted into a hospital ship where she treated numerous Japanese casualties from US and allied attacks. She also survived 3 mine blasts during the period between 1942 to 1945.
After the war, she repatriated thousands of Japanese soldiers and civilians from the Pacific Islands, Korea, the Dutch East Indies and China until August 1946, when she docked in Yokohama for repairs. From 1947 to 1953, Hikawa Maru was refitted as a cargo ship, ferrying general cargo between Japan and the east coast of US. In 1953 she was recommissioned as an ocean liner, serving the same route before the war started until her decommissioning in December 1960.
Today, Hikawa Maru is permanently berthed at Yamashita Park, Naka-ku, Yokohama as a floating museum, hotel and restaurant.
This is a video built of the ship in 1/350 scale from the Hasegawa kit.

You're the greatest model builder I've ever seen!!! Everything is done with great precision & no detail is left overlooked. Just an amazing journey into model building with every kit you choose to assemble!!! 🏆🏆🏆👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
But where have you gone??? It's been over 8 months since your last build ..😢.. I truly hope nothing has happened to you & we'll see you again shortly!!!
Thank you for your kind comments! I am truly humbled. There are many other modelers much better then me. I consider myself just average. I am currently still working on the Liberty ship "Jeremiah O'Brien" by Trumpeter and I hope to finish it by end of this year. I have the build video already edited. Just completing the rigging and final touches and it's ready to go. Stay tuned!
@@PlamoSamurai I can't wait ... and very glad you're still building models & going to be doing more videos!!! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Stunning model and a wonderful tutorial. Thank you for sharing this incredible build with all of us. She's beautiful.
Thank you!
"You only get out what you put in"... Kudos, Sir
Thank you!
ほんと、ようこんな綺麗に塗るなぁ。
素晴らしい
With all respect I do not understand the thumbs down. This is an out of this world job. ..! thanks for sharing..!
Pretty sure its just petty jealousy... I see it all the time on build videos sadly. Either that or its the rivet trolls trying to nitpick something as per usual!
Personally think they are people without the patience and appreciation to enjoy watching the build, much less actually attempting the build. I can appreciate the skills this builder has, even though my eyes and hands couldn't allow me to build this! I build, mainly, 1\25 scale vehicles, mostly semi trucks. I do a lot of kit bashing and scratch building on my trucks, but it's relatively easy because of the scale! I would need magnification to build these little, fine details.
I can't do it,but I am appreciative of those that can,and film it so I can watch.
Painting individual parts before assembling, FANTASTIC. Why haven't I thought of that before now? I think my builds will be better for it. Thank you.
A lot of times I’ll paint them before, then do touch ups and additional details once everything is assembled
Amazing results from humble plastic!
Thank you!
Simplemente PERFECTO.. WOOOOOOW!!! Obra de arte !!!!
Gracias por compartir el trabajo 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I would be happy to have your modeling skills. Beautiful ship!

A simply exquisite build of a beautiful ship! I so wish my eyesight was upto to doing that photo-etch! 🤓
You can do it!
@@PlamoSamurai I will try! I have the 1/350 scale Hospital Ship version of the kit you built here, so some differences but still the beautiful Hikawa Maru. I just love this ship. 🙂
Oh! And greetings from Scotland! 👋
As a U S MERCHANT MARINE OFFICER , perhaps I can appreciate this model and build more than the general public X. This build , is MAGNIFICENT ; the rigging superb ! I am not familiar with the history of this particular ship ; she appears to be a pre ww2 construction X I wish this vid included more images , and basic info on her X. I take this opportunity to compliment both the engineering excellence of the model & the skills of the modeller X O S V. CAPT P.van ESS
Thank you for your comments and kind compliments. It means a lot to me and inspires me to build more ships in the future!

Have you ever thought about riding the Kasato Maru ship?
Your work is incredible!
Could you post more pictures of this ship on your facebook or instagram?
Thank you! Will do that.
Отлично постарался
Спасибо!
Very nice build I would like to know what you use to paint the super structure windows and openings? Also the decks are great.
Thanks for viewing. Sorry for the late reply. The bridge windows are openings. The kit includes transparent pieces to be glued to the reverse side. The window rims are painted with brown color enamel paint against lacquer white background. That way if I misjudge I can easily scratch out the brown paint without destroying the white paint. For other types of openings I just put in a black enamel wash.
👍👍
The thumbs down are from those that have never had a life don't have a life and probably never will , if they just got out of their comfort zone and attempted to something different or difficult they may enjoy their life
Calm down mate, some people just disagree with things or interpret art differently. There is no need for such hatred
@@jamescrab4110 Hi James I don't recall any hatred in my soul when I wrote my comment, as you said everyone is entitled to their opinion, so calm down mate
@@victor.leslieaugustpikingt8848 You openly state that anyone that dislikes this is soulless
@@jamescrab4110 Yes James I did but how is that hatred?
Nice
Thanks
Really nice build and also love your weathering. I’m currently building the model in 1/350, just wondering what glue you used??¿
I use a mix of Tamiya extra thin cement, CA glue and PVA glue for the PE parts.
@@PlamoSamurai thanks 👌
Can I ask you what the tool was you were applying the glue for the rigging.
It's a glue applicator I got from my local hobby store. Basically it's just a needle with a handle.
What scale is this kit, please? What are the length o.a. and the beam of the model?
すごい!
What is the radio antenna made of?
わたし中国人づす, 日本語がよく分からないので、よろしくお願いします。
It is made of brass wire :)
