    What is tretinoin. Best form of tretinoin.
    There are many different types of tretinoin brands. Altreno, it comes in a cream: brand names: Avita, Refissa and Renova: which you see prescribed moreso for wrinkles, Retin-A, which is also a gel. There is also a formulation called twyneo, which is fda approved for acne vulgaris, which combines tretinoin with benzoyl peroxide.
    Tretinoin cream vs gel.
    The gel formula usually contains denatured alcohol and is prescribed to people who are dealing with acne. The cream form contains heavy emollients such as isopropyl myristate and is better suited for anti-aging purposes.
    Tretinoin strength. What concentration of tretinoin is best.
    What you will see a difference in though is the strength. 0.025%; 0.05, and 0.01%, which is the strongest. And most likely if youre starting out, you might be on the 0.025%.
    How to apply tretinoin.
    Use tretinoin on dry skin. After you wash your hands and cleanse your face, with a gentle cleanser, these two are my current favorites, wait for your skin to completely dry. Applying tretinoin on a wet or damp face can increase absorption and easily irritate the skin.
    How much tretinoin to use.
    Once its dry, then use a pea sized amount and not a peanut. And with that pea size amount, which is about ¼ of a gram, go ahead and start by dotting bit by bit in different areas of the face, at least 13 touchpoints.
    Tretinoin with moisturizer.
    Then if youre going to use a moisturizer after, Wait at least 20-30 minutes so you dont dilute the tretinoin.
    Moisturizer before tretinoin.
    Buffer tretinoin with a moisturizer. Find one that is 100 percent free of alcohol, and artificial fragrances, or any other peeling ingredients. These 2 are my current favorites. So use the moisturizer, wait 15 minutes then use the tretinoin.
    How often to use tretinoin. When to use tretinoin.
    Dont use it daily, just yet. Unless your doctor told you so. When starting, you dont have to go straight to every day use. Start with every 48 to 72 hours because you dont want to shock your skin.
    Tretinoin at day or night
    Nightly use is even better, so your skin wont be interrupted by those uv rays.
    Tretinoin with sunscreen. Best sunscreen with tretinoin.
    Tretinoin will make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, there is no way around it. But After a few months of tretinoin use, studies show that skin gradually begins to adjust to sunlight and photosensitivity returns to normal.
    Tretinoin purge. How long purge with tretinoin.
    During this whole process, your skin will start getting worse before it gets better. This is because your skin is pushing all of that gunk to the surface, which causes an increase in breakouts and acne. You might see cystic acne, whiteheads, blackheads, papules. It means the tretinoin is working and you’ll soon have clear skin. It might take up to 3 months of purging, but it does go away.
    How long does it take for tretinoin to work.
    Do not give up too early. For acne, the results you want can take up to 3 months, not overnight or in a month. For anti-aging, its at least 6 months, and it shouldnt matter to you, since you might choose to be on this for years as maintenance. For post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and sun damage, itll take 6 months as well. For fine lines and wrinkles, thats at least a minimum of 1-2 years of consistent use.
    When to not use tretinoin. Who is tretinoin for.
    Besides for pregnancy, or doctors orders and assuming your skin isnt tolerating it, there really is no point on giving up on the product. Or any product for that matter.

    I'm 74 and started using Tretinoin about 1.5 years ago. I wanted to get rid of age/dark spots and it has done wonders. I use it regularly and avoid the sun and use SPF 50. One spot was quite large and is almost gone, but it got darker before it started to leave. I also see some improvement in my jowls which are pretty severe from not only age, but a very large weight loss 10 years ago. He's right in that it takes time!

    • @darlenejones2834

      I didn't make any lifestyle changes. I actually worked the night shift and worked lots of overtime on a regular basis and didn't get much sleep for many years. My food choices never changed. I didn't use any special moisturizer. Somehow, I just had very good results. It could possibly be my genes. My mother and father had beautiful skin especially my mother. Maybe it's my race. My mother had beautiful skin up until her death at the age of 86 and a half. Minimal to no wrinkles. Smooth silky skin. I suffered from acne break outs off and on since my teens. It stopped during my childbearing years and then started back again off and on after I finished having my children. I was in my 40's and was still breaking out. I couldn't stand it any longer. My doctor prescribed me the Tretinoin lowest dosage. She also prescribed me benzoyl peroxide acne cream. The pharmacist told me that I could get the same benzoyl peroxide acne cream OTC and so I did. My face cleared up so well that I stopped using the benzoyl peroxide and would use the Tretinoin cream 2 to 5 per week. Now I hardly ever have to use the Tretinoin cream. My skin just responded well. I have had phenomenal results and will only have a very mild break out maybe once per year or less. I haven't had to use my Tretinoin cream in awhile now.

Yours was clear, concise and informative, Dr. I especially appreciated the fact that you didn't try to minimize or gloss over the time commitment or "purge" issue, as some do in their videos. I used the Retin A when I was 14 years old because I had flat warts on my forehead. Back in the 70’s they really didn’t push the sunscreen and I was a little fish in the summer and stayed out swimming in the sun all day long. Long story short I looked like a very ripe tomato after a full day of swimming and my skin peeled many layers taking over two weeks! It was agony, but after the peeling process was done, my skin was flawless not even a freckle here or there lol.
    I’m currently using it again but you do need to start slow because it will make your skin feel like it is burnt if you over use it. Definitely put on sunscreen!! The reason I’m using it is trying to get rid of those 60 year old wrinkles, and a couple of warts on my forehead. So far the warts have disappeared. But my Wrinkles are still there 😞

I finally broke down and called the drs office and that's when she told me about the purging. They dropped me down to 0.025 from .05 3x a week. The acne was BAD but I stuck it out. I'm so glad I did. I got a great regimen on my next appointment and some samples. I'm so excited. I'm 37 with adult hormonal acne, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. I'm so happy I finally went to the dermatologist.

    I would love your input on this idea: how quickly can or should I expect to acclimate to Tretinoin if I've been using adapalene for 2.5 years prior? I was on 0.1% adapalene for 2.5 (although not nightly because I alternated with other products like exfoliants, or azelaic acid/niacinamide/kojic acid etc products so as not to aggravate my skin), and my skin has improved A LOT - sun spots/hyperpigmentation lightening, looking younger now than I did 2.5 years ago, even my moles are shrinking and fading, and I rarely get a pimple. I just started Tretinoin 0.025% through an online derm; I've used it once this week so far, absolutely no irritation. I feel like maybe I'm one of the people who can tolerate using 3-4 nights a week since I'm so used to a prescription strength retinoid? Thanks in advance! I have dry sometimes sensitive skin (but live in a dry climate).

    • @eobrien1
      @eobrien1 Год назад +1

      I have rosacea and sensitive skin but was able to jump immediately to tretinoin & also had no irritation or redness. If it’s working for you, i say go for it. I did the same frequency, so I’d already worked up to nightly w adapalene and just immediately moved to nightly tretinoin. I don’t think you’ll have any issues. I think a lot of the warnings about tretinoin irritationshave been largely exaggerated by the skincare channels. (Imo it’s more due to them overdoing other ingredients like exfoliants etc. And not the tretinoin itself.)

    • @kouten07

      What is Adapelene? Did a dermatologist prescribe it? Sude effects? Never heard of it.

    • @eobrien1
      @eobrien1 10 месяцев назад

      @@kouten07 adapalene is the generic name for Differin. It is the Rx retinoid family since it’s in the active form. It is made for more sensitive skin (since it only binds to 2 retinoid receptors, tret binds to 3 I think) & is more acne-targeted.
      Personally, it was first prescribed by my derm at the time, circa 2014. Then, in 2016, Differin/adapalene 0.1% went over the counter here in the US, so I started getting it that way instead. (Then I later bumped to tretinoin 0.025% for 2 years or so. Now am on 0.05% tretinoin. Both via Rx w current derm)
      Same side effects largely as any retinoid like tretinoin: risk for irritation, red, flaky skin. Can make you feel a bit dry. Can have purging when you start.

    I LOVE Altreno. I used .025% cream for 13.5 years and could NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME go up to .05%. Earlier this year my dr prescribed Altreno to see if we could finally go up and now it’s just amazing. Little to no irritation at all and the texture is more of a serum than a lotion just the slightest bit more viscous than normal serum. Makes it so easier to use half of a pea sized amount because it spreads so much easier. I do still buffer tho just because I’m scared it’ll eventually irritate but so far so good!

    Please how effective is it with someone using it with minoxidil for beard growth, does it get any better incorporating tretinoin alongside minoxidil for better and faster results?

    Hello! I have a question. I have been using tret since Aug 2021. i hd purging phase under tret and my skin has improved, however there are still remaining minimum redness on my cheeks although i practice only 2x/week application of tret with sandwich method like what other derma advices but the redness won't just go away. Can I maybe introduced back again the adapalene and applying it on non-tretinoin night routine? Im afraid in case when im running out my tretinoin at least i still hv back up anti-aging cream that is readily accessible otc. Here in Germany you can't procure tretinoin without proving that you have an acne. Hope u may be able to address my concern. Thank you

    I have read mixed things on Tretinoin that I hope you can help with. I read that it is best to use at night before bed because can become less effective if exposed to indoor lights, tv, computers, phones. Also read that this was more for the .25 and that .5 and 1.0 is more stable in indoor lighting . But if need to wait 20 minutes before applying moisturizer after Tretinoin at night time with home lights or tv on, should I lay in the dark for 20-30 minutes, moisturize and them sleep?? Thank you.

    Thank you so much for your video, everything is so easy and to the point 😊 may I ask, do you have to wear spf indoors, if you aren't sitting near a window with direct sunlight?

    • @ArsalanAspires
      @ArsalanAspires  11 месяцев назад +1

      Glad I could help! There is no need to wear it indoors if you are not near windows or direct sunlight. However! Some experts do say use caution and wear spf around blue light from your devices. Blue light does not cause sunburn but it may form free radicals that cause premature skin aging.
      I hope this helps! 🙏🏽

    I would like to ask if the purging also happens to those who want to use the Tretinoin for photoaging and fine lines and don't have any acne issues, or does it only happen to people suffering from acne?

    Thanks for this video I gave up already. Will start back tonight. It left my face darker, am doing 2 months on hydroquinone and 2 months off and tretinoin same. My face was so clear with the hydroquinone and now a month of tretinoin it's full with hyperpigmentation. Really dark so I stopped and called my dermatologist he wants me come to office for evaluation. Thanks

    I have some questions, is it true that it can trigger unwanted facial hair growth over time ? (I don't know if it is just what I am feeling or if it is for real, I've researched and found evidences of it being true), if yes then what alternative can I use to treat hyperpigmentation and deep ice pick scars on my cheeks and jaw without damaging my beard colour with any kind of bleaching agent like clindmycin or benzoyl peroxide? When I was using the Benzoyl peroxide soap, my skin was great and all, but my beard started getting dull and brownish orange so I cannot use it. And is there anything I can apply to remove and slow down the growth of unwanted hair on upper cheeks, facial temples and in between eye brows, at least something to make them finer and less visible without any side effects?
