      It's not 0.25%, it's 0.025%. It's not 0.5%, it's 0.05%. I know americans usually have a problem understanding factor 10, which is also used in the metric system.

      I didn't make any lifestyle changes. I actually worked the night shift and worked lots of overtime on a regular basis and didn't get much sleep for many years. My food choices never changed. I didn't use any special moisturizer. Somehow, I just had very good results. It could possibly be my genes. My mother and father had beautiful skin especially my mother. Maybe it's my race. My mother had beautiful skin up until her death at the age of 86 and a half. Minimal to no wrinkles. Smooth silky skin. I suffered from acne break outs off and on since my teens. It stopped during my childbearing years and then started back again off and on after I finished having my children. I was in my 40's and was still breaking out. I couldn't stand it any longer. My doctor prescribed me the Tretinoin lowest dosage. She also prescribed me benzoyl peroxide acne cream. The pharmacist told me that I could get the same benzoyl peroxide acne cream OTC and so I did. My face cleared up so well that I stopped using the benzoyl peroxide and would use the Tretinoin cream 2 to 5 per week. Now I hardly ever have to use the Tretinoin cream. My skin just responded well. I have had phenomenal results and will only have a very mild break out maybe once per year or less. I haven't had to use my Tretinoin cream in awhile now.

    I'm 74 and started using Tretinoin about 1.5 years ago. I wanted to get rid of age/dark spots and it has done wonders. I use it regularly and avoid the sun and use SPF 50. One spot was quite large and is almost gone, but it got darker before it started to leave. I also see some improvement in my jowls which are pretty severe from not only age, but a very large weight loss 10 years ago. He's right in that it takes time!

Yours was clear, concise and informative, Dr. I especially appreciated the fact that you didn't try to minimize or gloss over the time commitment or "purge" issue, as some do in their videos. I used the Retin A when I was 14 years old because I had flat warts on my forehead. Back in the 70’s they really didn’t push the sunscreen and I was a little fish in the summer and stayed out swimming in the sun all day long. Long story short I looked like a very ripe tomato after a full day of swimming and my skin peeled many layers taking over two weeks! It was agony, but after the peeling process was done, my skin was flawless not even a freckle here or there lol.
    I’m currently using it again but you do need to start slow because it will make your skin feel like it is burnt if you over use it. Definitely put on sunscreen!! The reason I’m using it is trying to get rid of those 60 year old wrinkles, and a couple of warts on my forehead. So far the warts have disappeared. But my Wrinkles are still there 😞

    I LOVE Altreno. I used .025% cream for 13.5 years and could NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME go up to .05%. Earlier this year my dr prescribed Altreno to see if we could finally go up and now it’s just amazing. Little to no irritation at all and the texture is more of a serum than a lotion just the slightest bit more viscous than normal serum. Makes it so easier to use half of a pea sized amount because it spreads so much easier. I do still buffer tho just because I’m scared it’ll eventually irritate but so far so good!

I followed the instructions to the T, and it still was not enough and I became so depressed. Exactly, trying to push and to reach that diamond mine, like in this video. Here is a tip from someone who has been using RetinA 0.05% for the last 40 years on his face ..wear nitrile gloves when you apply and massage the creme ! because the skin on your finger tip absorbs about as much as the skin on your face, so you waste 50% of that precious tube into your finger..unless your goal is to reduce finger wrinkles!! buy nitrile gloves one size larger and you can re-use the same glove many times.

    I would love your input on this idea: how quickly can or should I expect to acclimate to Tretinoin if I've been using adapalene for 2.5 years prior? I was on 0.1% adapalene for 2.5 (although not nightly because I alternated with other products like exfoliants, or azelaic acid/niacinamide/kojic acid etc products so as not to aggravate my skin), and my skin has improved A LOT - sun spots/hyperpigmentation lightening, looking younger now than I did 2.5 years ago, even my moles are shrinking and fading, and I rarely get a pimple. I just started Tretinoin 0.025% through an online derm; I've used it once this week so far, absolutely no irritation. I feel like maybe I'm one of the people who can tolerate using 3-4 nights a week since I'm so used to a prescription strength retinoid? Thanks in advance! I have dry sometimes sensitive skin (but live in a dry climate).

      I have rosacea and sensitive skin but was able to jump immediately to tretinoin & also had no irritation or redness. If it’s working for you, i say go for it. I did the same frequency, so I’d already worked up to nightly w adapalene and just immediately moved to nightly tretinoin. I don’t think you’ll have any issues. I think a lot of the warnings about tretinoin irritationshave been largely exaggerated by the skincare channels. (Imo it’s more due to them overdoing other ingredients like exfoliants etc. And not the tretinoin itself.)

      What is Adapelene? Did a dermatologist prescribe it? Sude effects? Never heard of it.

    • @eobrien1
      @eobrien1 Год назад

      @@kouten07 adapalene is the generic name for Differin. It is the Rx retinoid family since it’s in the active form. It is made for more sensitive skin (since it only binds to 2 retinoid receptors, tret binds to 3 I think) & is more acne-targeted.
      Personally, it was first prescribed by my derm at the time, circa 2014. Then, in 2016, Differin/adapalene 0.1% went over the counter here in the US, so I started getting it that way instead. (Then I later bumped to tretinoin 0.025% for 2 years or so. Now am on 0.05% tretinoin. Both via Rx w current derm)
      Same side effects largely as any retinoid like tretinoin: risk for irritation, red, flaky skin. Can make you feel a bit dry. Can have purging when you start.

    • @ArsalanAspires
      @ArsalanAspires  Год назад

      Thanks for the question! The chances of purging can still be likely. This is because tretinoin is close to 10-20 times more potent than retinol. Some who make the switch from everyday retinol to tretinoin may notice a less severe purging period however. Less skin flakiness to be exact. This is more true from making the switch to 0.025 vs stronger concentrations.
      I hope that helps! 🤞

I also use serums/lactic acid on my hands and arms every time I do my skincare. Tbh if I had a big enough monthly tube of tretinoin, I would definitely apply it on my arms and hands as well, because I have a lot of scarring on them and I know it would be incredibly beneficial- I just am not prescribed a big enough bottle. When buffering tretinoin with an occlusive some doctors recommend applying the occlusive first on sensitive areas and then using the retinoid - the concept makes sense but won’t the occlusive mix with the retinoid, making it much too strong?

    • @ArsalanAspires
      @ArsalanAspires  Год назад +4

      Thanks for your question. Applying an occlusive agent first would not bring a synergistic effect, in other words, it won’t increase the strength. The reason many suggest doing this is to minimize the chances/severity of the retinization period causing irritation and further inflammation. There is minor evidence to suggest “slugging” over the tretinoin by using it on top may “trap” the tretinoin thereby increasing irritation but some have no drawbacks from that either. This explains why this topic can be tricky to navigate as skin reactions will differ from person to person.
      I hope that made sense 🙂

    • @talebbenter7191
      @talebbenter7191 Год назад +1

      Appreciated - makes a lot of sense. I understand that applying an occlusive over any product significantly increases its strength/skin penetration (aside from the evidence you mentioned).
      Therefore, my concern is that if I first apply an occlusive to sensitive areas, let it dry, and then apply the tretinoin - when applying the tret to the rest of the face (and going over the sensitive areas with the occlusive applied to them) I might be applying a mix of the occlusive and tret to other areas of the skin. Would that be harsh on the skin, or something not to worry about?
