It looks that I have discovered a rare, incomplete version of Pac-Land for the Amiga. The sprites and gameplay are different from the actual release! All the ghosts have complete makeovers, and... Sue can pilot the vehicles too? And it includes the acutal level theme too! Pretty good. However, the game only hold 7 rounds, with the first 5 being completely playable. At the end of the 7th round, the game crashes. However this may not be a beta, rather an attempt at recreating the game. Who knows? - Игры
This is even better than the final version
Final version like:LAG
Wow. Prototype looks more impressive than the final! like this version uses amiga hardware more.
I remember well in the late eighties this Pacland prototype that seemed a leaked beta announcing the official version. It seemed finally a decent arcade conversion, after many frustrating bad Atari direct ports. Then the final release came and... guess what? One of the most horrible direct Atari ports, again. I remember a similar story about the Amiga version of Chase HQ. A promising beta circulating in the pirate scene (it was told written by the same coders of the car sequences in Batman), then again a bad direct ST port as final release.
So what I've stumbled across is made for promotional material?
I think it was more a leaked beta, quickly published in the pirate blue floppies scene. Then the final release was completely different, i still remember the disappointment with the official version. Amiga had a sweet revenge with Pacmania, one of the best home conversions of the arcade.
Where is gone the darn Chase HQ beta? Is there any around?
Wow, it looks way much better than the final release! They should released this version instead of the final one
When your only paying staff £400 a month if at all, sacking managers to save money, as Grandslam did, is it any wonder Amiga owners had to suffer ST ports?
This looks like the conversion the Amiga deserves..
I wonder why this was rejected? Maybe a change in publisher meant no original prototypes could be used and it had to be done from scratch by Mr. Micro Ltd?
Pretty Cool,Except For The One Mistake.Like The One Where You Can Walk On Water Without Dying.
Yeah, it is a prototype after all. Sucks that the final version was just a port of the Atari ST conversion.
Dang. This prototype is better than the final version. Why did they have to change it so drastically? Was storage a huge issue?
I think so, so they ported the ST version.
If they thought a litte bit more back in the day. maybe it would fit into like 2-4 Floppy Disks. but still we would get a better looking and playing game
if storage is (was) an issue on Amiga they could’ve made or make a MB (megabyte) version
I guess that they had two team working on it, the good Amiga and the ST port, whichever finished first - history tells us who did :/
Problem with Atari ports were that they only used CPU power. Atari didn't have any exceptional graphics chips, which could ease CPU from many tasks. Graphic was decent but CPU was engaged in every computing. And the second issue was Atari and Amiga were using the same CPU so for greedy company it was better to release direct Atari port than writing it again.
so sweet!
Cool

@ImSoNextLevel It depends on what emulator you use and what emulation settings you use. I used WinUAE and set it to A500 mode for the settings.
That build is unfinished if you go level 6 you can walk water if you go level 7 level is broken if you finish level 7 the game crash
Level 7 is the killscreen
Does anybody know where this disk image originated; is it an actual prototype, or is it somebody's homebrew demo? I can't imagine this version being scrapped in favor of the crappy ST conversion that was actually released, especially since a significant amount of the gameplay loop seems to already be implemented here.
After having seen too many Creepypasta games, that crash feels straight out of one.
That was the usual way amiga OCS/ECS crashes, the music is affected by the LED and linked audio filter while flashing
La versión de Spectrum / Amstrad mejorada
No, és improvisado del c64
I think is build date June 5 1985 prototype
No June 5 1989
@@pac-manthehedgehog525 Maybe it is june 5 1988 as it is so different
Any clue on checking the disk data with a monitor? That POING sound very whittaker-ish
This is a beta as the homeward theme is the same as the final
And the round clear one too
Even the life lost one i forgot to say that
And possibly even the fly shoes collected one
And then storage limitations walk in and destroy EVERYTHING!!
This seems to be based on the c64
Yeah it's probably based on the C64 port. The music stopping when you eat a power pellet and ghosts just suddenly lose their vehicles when scared. Not a direct port(there are some new differences) but it was certainly used as a reference
You can't jump on the ghost cars either. The ghosts also flip around and run away instantly when you eat a power pellet (in the arcade they descend to the ground THEN run away)
