Actually hearing this in-game and having to play the game while this plays is so weird after just listening to it from the youtube video. Glad Marlet finally gets a proper boss battle!
i really hope that in deltarune you can go to berdly's house and martlet is just a cameo there would be even funnier if she holds no relation to berdly whatsoever and is just like, a friend or whatever
yeah, she's not "discount papyrus." martlet's competent enough but messes up cause she follows her guidebook too closely and overthinks her duties. papyrus messed up because he kept trailing off course and just had sheer incompetent moments. being "similar" doesn't make them the same
It's fascinating to compare the way Martlet's first fight in the Genocide Route ends with the way the "fight" with Starlo ends later in the route. I imagine that, at least at this point in their crusade, Clover still maintains some sense of honor and a desire to stick with their "cowboy code", and thus refuses to shoot an enemy who has already surrendered and turned their back. But by the time they get to Starlo (a monster who, at that point, has become a foil to Clover, being a cowboy who sticks to his guns and offers a fair duel despite the lives at risk), they've become angry enough at monsterkind to spit in the face of that code. And of course, as we see, their decision to not finish off Martlet here comes back to bite them HARD later ;)
And she is not a pushover in a fight She's a decently challenging opponent Definitely one of the more competent Royal Guard members. I think Correct me if I am wrong.
@47northm I fought her on pacifist. And she made me use healing items. Which was the first time I had used any healing items. And she was harder than I expected. So that's why I said that she is no pushover Yeah you're right I am wrong
@@TheEmeraldSword04 theres genoside and toriel ending that prove otherwise, the issue here was flowey that controls the timelines and wont let clover have long term choices like staying with martlet
I am commenting on every single song of the Undertale Yellow Soundtrack playlist! (Read this knowing I discovered, explored and played Deltarune (in 2021) before Undertale (in 2022), which to the current day of this comment I have only watched the entirety of, but not actually played. Hence why I assume that I like Deltarune more than Undertale, because it was personal and... new, in a way, but can still feel what I would call a "fake" nostalgia from Undertale despite that). I played Undertale Yellow one time. My playthrough went across from 10/12/2023 to 26/12/2023, during a total of 15-16 days. I played it, aimed for the best, and got True Pacifist. When I finish it, I tell Flowey to wait. And get off the computer for the day. Some days pass by, and I finally start watching a True Pacifist route on YT. Some days pass by again, and I gain the courage to watch the not-so-dark path, and then the truly dark path. Some time passes once again, and I finally watch the end offered by Flawed Pacifist. It's time for some ruled, aviary action! As the royal guard Martlet breezes through the protocol, Clover shall find a safe way outta this one! Politely, of course. She seems a bit too nervous to be yelled at. Not wanting to downgrade "Forlorn" in any way, but I'm so happy to finally reach Martlet's second titular song! That's mostly because, unlike "Forlorn", I can visibly remember my exact experience in this encounter! It would be an understatement to say it is only memorable, it's iconic, much more than what is possible to imagine! Pretty sure I didn't die many times on this one, though this was the first REAL fight so I might've tanked some bruises here and there. I can confirm that there weren't many tries to drive me to insanity or even make me overwhelmed, that's for sure! This was one that was made to become popular, and it brilliantly achieved this goal! I clearly remember, before starting this quest of mine, of listening to it countless times (good times, when I was actually able to freely listen to the OST XD), especially early in the morning, to start the day on a hyped bright note! At the time of writing this (roughly 2 months and a half after the release of Undertale Yellow), the track sits at some pretty impressive counting: 303K views, being the 11th piece with most views on the list (BARELY above "Forlorn", which is only 2K away from it. It would be cool to see both tracks growing at the same pace like they are now, it's very unusual and satisfactory at the same time XD). This composition is a very, very appealing one... This one pretty much abandons the silly and jolly instruments that Martlet's theme, "Birds of a Feather", included. And, while a while back I wouldn't have seen much meaning on it, and would've found it a bit confusing, I can understand it now! Martlet is forced to put her merry behaviour aside for a bit, so she can fully concentrate on doing her task properly! And, as she looks through her guide, she still feels confident on doing what she is meant to do, while clearly still holding back a little, since deep down she probably knows there may be other options to go about it. "Protocol" aims to show that, while Martlet is sweet, she can still stand for what she thinks is right (in her own way, of course), which I find very amusing about her character! No one is able to escape the protocol! No one! The way the music starts really puts you on your feet! The piano notes, slowly but surely making out a basic pattern, then building up to the next bunch of instruments, with the castanets quickly becoming an iconic sound throughout by playing in each and every little section and shift the song has! And there's also these swing sections that will keep repeating once in a while, having its first showcase at 0:25. 0:51 is just amazing too; it all builds up to this chilling, quiet flute part, a specific bit where the chorus in the background shines equally bright! And then it goes on to make the music build up once again right after, making it loop to some of the sections that were already shown. Which is not even a bad thing, it imposes familiarity on it, making it quickly recognizable and simple to remind! Another thing, I cannot keep going without telling how I love the little piano/bass (I really can't distinguish musical instruments huh) that plays when there is a sort of transition, like at 0:43, 0:50, 1:21, 1:59, 2:06, and some more (I don't think this is the best way to try to point it out, but I couldn't find any other way, so it will have to be like this) All in all, despite putting the silliness to the side, this track exceeds at portraying the brewing action of the fight, as well as Martlet's more serious (but still stumbly) side! Coudn't go on without diving into Martlet's attitude in this encounter! You can't convince me it wasn't this fight that made everyone fall in love with Martlet's character. This is really where her "girlfailure" (as some people call it) side shines. Personally, I don't think that's the trait that made me like her, but it certainly helped, since she is one to constantly bounce between considering herself "confident and sharp" and "a piece of garbage"! XD I remember only doing the ACT option of pointing out the time to hurry Martlet and, even though I know the dialogue doesn't change despite that, it made even more sense since she was always anxious and scared that Clover was not enjoying the situation or cooperating with the protocol. It was a treat seeing her giving free turns throughout the battle, as she nervously tries to find what she is supposed to do, searching through her royal guard guide (Papyrus would be proud). It was a surprise to see that her intention for Clover to insult her was the thing that sparked the idea in her mind to try a different approach. The way she said "I don't even feel insulted! You put so much effort into that!", and I'm here like "yeah I did, I repeatedly tried not to do it before gaining the courage to do so! (See, insulting your friends might just be the solution for them to be assure of what they want to do!... don't take this for granted, kids...) It is also here that we get one of the best lines ever... "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can only make me sad!" I understand this so bad... ... ... I'M NOT SOBBING YOURE SOBBING Her attacks (in the rare occasions that she does them) are also moderately easy, and above all, very creative! I don't know about everyone else, but I find very satisfying dodging the feathers that go on the side, track the SOUL's last placement and go across the attack box, doing like a cutting knife sound, it's weirldy amusing, I love it! There's also the attack where she flies objects towards you through the wind of the wings; what can I say it's an extra animation of course I find that amazing! One of them, though, that I think NOBODY was expecting... was, of course... the one... the only... *jevil carousel* When that attack came up, the PTSD immediately came in. I had to take a deep breath after that one. At least, it was the easier version of that Jevil attack, not the one that goes up and down... that one is the true nightmare, my friends... It was impactful enough to make me almost intuitively scream, thats's where I'll draw the line. Almost at the end, I now stare at MyNewSoundtrack's upload from 4-5 years ago. This exact same song, and with that, the first ever look at Martlet! I stopped being surprised at how many of these tracks hold up in quality as time went on, but then that would have to be applied to many more and I would be repeating myself XD. I also just noticed that this was the 31th soundtrack of the list, meaning we lost the streak of meaningful songs being at the multiples of 10. A shame, I know, but it might come back sometime... who can really say? Me, cause I'm the one who's writing this mess! :) I honestly thought that I wouldn't have a lot to say this time, since I had covered Martlet largely in her theme, but even then... I was just plainly wrong! And I'm proud of it! If me being wrong carries me to write wonderful letters to wonderful characters like Martlet, then keep it comin' ;) I will be overjoyed to accomplish such milestone! Justice delivered. (27/02/2024)

SHE FREAKINGS THROWS TRASH AT US
Probally because by this point in the game you can buy full heal for her and it unlimited food too. Also you can potentially get a really damn OP armor for her

Actually hearing this in-game and having to play the game while this plays is so weird after just listening to it from the youtube video. Glad Marlet finally gets a proper boss battle!
i really hope that in deltarune you can go to berdly's house and martlet is just a cameo there
would be even funnier if she holds no relation to berdly whatsoever and is just like, a friend or whatever

I love how similar her vibes are to Papyrus's, but in a different way
yeah, she's not "discount papyrus." martlet's competent enough but messes up cause she follows her guidebook too closely and overthinks her duties. papyrus messed up because he kept trailing off course and just had sheer incompetent moments. being "similar" doesn't make them the same

Imo I find her like N from Murder Drones
@@AnnaSantiago-f8k and Martlet uses DETERMINATION using a syringe or something correct me if I'm wrong
I was scared i wasn’t gonna find your comment but i just had to scroll a bit more

Flowey: trollface
@@NewNahumDBK :Troll:
Another thing, I cannot keep going without telling how I love the little piano/bass (I really can't distinguish musical instruments huh) that plays when there is a sort of transition, like at 0:43, 0:50, 1:21, 1:59, 2:06, and some more (I don't think this is the best way to try to point it out, but I couldn't find any other way, so it will have to be like this)
All in all, despite putting the silliness to the side, this track exceeds at portraying the brewing action of the fight, as well as Martlet's more serious (but still stumbly) side!
XD
I remember only doing the ACT option of pointing out the time to hurry Martlet and, even though I know the dialogue doesn't change despite that, it made even more sense since she was always anxious and scared that Clover was not enjoying the situation or cooperating with the protocol.
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can only make me sad!" I understand this so bad...
...
...
I'M NOT SOBBING YOURE SOBBING
Her attacks (in the rare occasions that she does them) are also moderately easy, and above all, very creative!
One of them, though, that I think NOBODY was expecting... was, of course... the one... the only...
*jevil carousel*
When that attack came up, the PTSD immediately came in.
I honestly thought that I wouldn't have a lot to say this time, since I had covered Martlet largely in her theme, but even then... I was just plainly wrong! And I'm proud of it!
If me being wrong carries me to write wonderful letters to wonderful characters like Martlet, then keep it comin' ;)
I will be overjoyed to accomplish such milestone!
Justice delivered.

Something i've noticed is that compared to "Apprehension" this theme starts with skipping not one but two whole beats after the intro (0:13), before fully getting started in the next segment (0:18), which is probably symbolic of how she's taking things slow and not putting in a lot of effort 😂.
