I’m just a guy that’s trying to do hot rod style paints to guitars. The issue I’m into is this,
Gold base with flake over the top, then candy, then auto lacquer clear.
I can’t seem to get it smoothed for polish without getting into the flake.
    ???
PS, I’m getting a good amount of clear on it, but it’s SO “bumpy” I can’t help but expose the flake.

Genrally the bumpy finish will happen when the flake size is 375 micron and larger . if your sanding through the clear down to flake , you havent been applying enough clear . HS Clears are good for this due to the thick nature of the clear.

Can 2 different brands of clear, be used in a paint job ?

No I wouldn’t advise that . You can use one brand . Then sand for flow coating then use other brand . But that’s about it , using 2 different brands at same time can cause many problems like solvent boil and or the clear not fully curing

Hey Mark! Awesome video bro, your editing is getting better by the day 😁👌 question.. With the candy premixes can I mix with other candy premixes if I wanted a custom colour? Or can this only be done with the concentrates? Thanks!

Can be done with premix as well mate . In fact it's actually easier and quicker to mix them as a premix compared with concentrated

Hi mate saw your other question , yes, you will need to get candy reducer and mix premix candy 1:1. it is better if your mixing candies together , mix them first then reduce them . that way you find out the actual shade/color of the candy . also make sure you do test samples and write down the Ratio in which you mixed them for accurate mixing later if needed. cheers

@@BogDustForBreakfast Thanks Mark 🙂 after writing the question I thought I'd check the Tech Sheet online. I appreciate the advice about mixing candies first though! Thanks for that

@@BogDustForBreakfast Hi Mark 🙂 can I use the Candy Reducer with the basecoat silver Flare or does it have to be the basecoat reducer?
