my god, I was there 20 years ago. At this exact show. i wish I would have savored it more. Keith and Henry together. beyond words. Thanks to these men, Eddie Vedder and so many others, these boys got out. when unified and serious, punk is a hell of a thing.
It's insane to me that watching this in 2022 (20 years after it was recorded) that we are as far from (or a year or two further than) the recording as the recording was far from when the songs actually came out. Keith has so much energy and i love his attitude on life and music (I very much enjoyed seeing OFF! in 2015). I know Henry doesn't do music anymore, but damn at least in this he's got it! Henry's got attitude in his spoken word and his stand-up sets. I wish i could have been more decades before i was so i could have seen this band in their prime.

He tried to stop shows like this whenever they happened even though this one was so incredibly important for such a serious situation. He tried to stop it nonetheless. Technically this here is Rollins band with "guest singers" but make no mistake, all of us who were there that night knew it was the best of the mighty Black flag and we would likely never get this close again, It was amazing, the Hollywood punks, the folks that had to look straight for a job but were still punk as fuck in their hearts, the mob hangout in the streets after, it was glorious. I wish you could have experienced it.
These days are over. It was over in 2002 when this was filmed. The punk days will never be back -- maybe in Hollywood house parties where some teenagers are keeping the flame alive...but the "scene" as performed at clubs is GONE GONE and it's never coming back. Never.
You actually can, my Man. Keith and other old Black flag members, have a Band called FLAG IIII, wich they play songs from any Black flag era. It's the closest thing we have to the real Black flag today

I'm almost 50 years old. This & the FLAG IIII shows are the closest - & the best - we'll ever see of Black Flag... Unfortunately. Greg is a douche these days. I remember buying the records for $6 back In the day. Now Greg's selling black flag records for almost $30 each even though you can usually get other punk LPs for under $20 most of the time so it shows what he's all about.

I missed this show, but I did go to the west memphis 3 benefit shows at the Whiskey in hollywood and the Glass House show in Pomona several days later. To me it was like seeing the actual Black Flag, even though it was Mother Superior as the backing band, but they did a good job. And with Rollins on vocals. Also when Kira appeared and they belted out Annihilate This Week. The highlights for me was when they were playing the post Damaged stuff: My War, Slip It In, Annihilate This Week; etc. I love the Damaged songs, but everyone plays them. Yeah, I considered these real Black Flag shows instead of the the current Greg Ginn BF cover band.

I Think Black Flag's greatness is because of their former members, Morris, Ron Reyes, Bill Stevenson, Kira, Chuck, Robo, Dez and Henry. They are more Black Flag than Ginn.
You think wrong. Greg started the band. He created their sound. Outside of a couple tunes by Morris and Chuck, Greg wrote all the early classics. Even when Rollins joined the band all of his songs were co written with Greg. Black Flag is, was, and will always be Greg Ginns band. Full stop.

I was there as well. What started the whole riot squad thing was Phil a 14 year old punk on acid threw a chair from outside area through the plate glass window and people started pouring in free from outside. At the time I didn't know that but was greeted by LAPD on exiting the show.

I feel like they should have brought out Keith later in the set, his voice is powerful. I like Rollins’ style, but Keith is king; he has a great singing voice, Henry is not a singer. It must’ve felt great for Henry to play these songs without being beat up and spit on. His Black Flag tour diaries book, Get In The Van, might as well have been called Spit-Covered Band.

I had the unfortunate luck of running across The crime scene photos. I sure don’t hear anybody talking about this anymore or anyone being charged, where is the secret person that did this? It reminds me of the killer of Ron Goldman and Nicole Simpson. There’s no crimes that match it either and usually if someone does something like this they’ve either done it before or they’ll do it again. Obviously you can’t do that if you’re locked up. What exactly was the reason Johnny Depp and all these Hollywood people thought these guys were innocent anyway? Did they look at the evidence of the case? Or was it simply because Damian claimed to be a misunderstood kind of a death rocker and it was in the middle of the country so the narrative was that people thought he was a Satanist. I don’t know man, I haven’t heard anything since. You would think all these guys involved would talk about this once in a while. I’ll tell you what though, there will be a day of reckoning, if it hasn’t already come, and whoever did this to these children, will have to answer it.
My understanding was this tour was to raise money for the DNA testing that would ultimately exonerate the three. But I agree with you. Somebody's going to pay, one way or another.
