Love that you actually pay so much attention to the lyrics, most reactions seem to mostly ignore them. You should do The Ghost of You video. And the entire Three Cheers album. Happy that I found your channel!
Fantastic ablum/rock opera. Great story throughout the whole thing. The writing is so good. If you listen to the whole album the story plays out a bit more and you can pick up more stuff. It's one of those albums that you have to listen to twice. Once to kinda get a general idea and then again to really get a good interpretation.
You did a great job. TBP is an intricate one. For me I believe you were 90%, but MCR are very much about that you should interpretate it your way ( like Twenty one pilots do) There is a story, Gerard Way is genius, but as I said he would want you to create your own. That's art. 😊 Hugs from Sweden.
You weren’t reaching at all, you nailed the themes the song is evoking. But the song exists within the context of the album, and the entire story is told from song to song. The Patient (that’s his actual character name, so props on calling him that) is a man dying of cancer. On his deathbed, he reflects on a powerful memory of his father taking him to the parade. His father asked him to be a good person, someone who stands up for others and for himself, because the father isnt going to be around forever and he needs his son, The Patient, to remember him and these words. The Patient is reflecting on whether he did that, as he approaches his own death. The memory of his father talking about living a good life but also dying and passing on, combined with the memory of the parade, merges the two concepts, and as the Patient approaches death, Death comes in the form of a Black Parade. He dies with the curtain drop. The perspective of who is singing changes back and forth. Is it the Patient? Is it his family and friends? Is it the parade itself? It’s never fully explained, but thematically it evokes the idea that death isn’t the end of us if we have made the effort to help others in life so that they remember us, and we both live on in their memories, and we inspire them to “carry on” and keep going, hopefully that they help others in turn. It’s not about being a hero and wanting to celebrated or worried about what other people will say or think of us. Be good and help others The deeper subtext is that it evokes Christian imagery. The Father is God, the Patient is the Son, and the Phantom is the Holy Spirit. And the cancer would metaphorically be the toxic world that lead to the crucifixion. The Patient (Jesus) dying, but remembering what his Father (God) said to him, how the Phantom (the Holy Spirit) was intended to lead him, fill him, and help him embody everything that is good, and inspire others.
The Dad died when the curtain dropped, the black parade came basically to get him/celebrate life kinda thing (more but sums it up ig) that’s why he had the black around his eyes too. Pls react to more MCR!❤
Story telling here was not defined in the video as much as you wanted it to be. Being a fan of MCR growing up it made perfect sense. I won't explain the story, all you needed to do was listen to the lyrics without.....pausing at great lyrical moments >_
I appreciate your analysis, man. The concept album this songs from has a fuller story, but I feel like you picked up a lot of the themes. A lot of people feel this song is an anthem for the genre, on par with Bohemian Rhapsody.
