I love that this guy is engaging with this and he's having some interesting thoughts, like how the island is the relationship and an island is isolating. But it's not that she's feeling isolated from the relationship, the relationship is isolating her from the rest of the world. It's a tactic almost all abusers use, cutting their victims off from other sources of support.

I think its more than just a reflection of what she could have done better as a mother. Its a reflection about how our war-loving government intentionally sets these families up for failure (meaning less opportunities to make it out of poverty) so that the sons will have no choice but to join the military. Its a very political song and was banned by our government during the Gulf War due to its anti-militarism and understanding of how our class system is intentional to uphold militarism and allow those at the top to profit off of it.

you should watch the live performance of this song from the game awards. Arcane is a Netflix show based on characters from the game League of Legends, the creators have a lot of different artists write original music for the show and this song plays towards the end of the second series.

i think this song has two meanings. for viktor (the show character), it’s the meaning you described. to dumb it down, not trying to let someone down. also viktor is dying throughout arcane. he uses the real life experience of his grandmother’s passing to write this song.
