comparing it to Bohemian Rhapsody is kinda spot on for exactly what Corey was saying, its a rock opera. Every MCR album is its own story. They are pretty cool.
Ya know, I didn’t get the Bohemian Rhapsody comparison, until you said the word opera. Now, I understand what you’re registering as similar- it’s the DRAMA. Yes, both songs change pace, but they do so dramatically, thematically. MCR was all about the drama, and I believe the album The Black Parade was considered to be a rock opera, which is basically an album that tells a story throughout, thematically. The oldest one I can think of is The Who’s Tommy, which was the quintessential rock opera.
I remember having a similar sentiment when this song/album first came out. Like yeah, both songs have different pacing, but it's more of how it affected me and the dramatics of it all that made them seem similar to me. Also, when Bohemian Rhapsody came out, it was something that had never been done before. And this felt as epic to me at the time. Still does in some ways.
The companion vid that goes with this is Famous Last Words which is also fab along with Ghost of You (you will see why the Bassist wears a medal on his uniform in that). All their albums are amazing and all have their own stories. When death comes for you it comes in the form of an important memory, in this case a man remembering his father and the parade he saw as a kid.
There's so many changes in the music of the song that give me chills! The part where he starts to sing, "Carry On..." always gets me! As soon as I saw OlliWooDDA rocking out, I hit subscribe!
My favourite band since 2006 and still today. Funny thing I didn't hear this song until months later, I got sold on " Vampires Will Never Hurt You" from their first album. I worked my way up to 2006😊
The Black Parade is the third studio album by American rock band My Chemical Romance, released in Europe on October 23, 2006, and the United States on October 24, 2006, by Reprise Records. It is a rock opera and concept album centered on a dying man with cancer known as "The Patient". The album tells the story of his apparent death, experiences in the afterlife, and subsequent reflections on his life.
Their video and song Ghost of You is so well done! Highly recommend both albums and any songs of theirs off of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge & The Black Parade. Both have mega hits on them.
Funeral procession...I believe that's the phrase that Olli was looking for. Reminiscent of a funeral procession down a street, similar to a state funeral. This song is an absolute anthem and I believe many people would agree Bohemian Rhapsody can easily be considered the same. Thanks so much for sharing your reaction. Take care.
Helena is an excellent song as well. He wrote that song for his grandmother when she passed. She was their biggest supporter. 100% agree with the Bohemian Rapsody idea. It does something similar switching styles and timing. I can understand the Blink-182 comparison, but they are too different to me to really compare them. Blink was playing around, having fun with pop-punk. MCR was telling an epic story with emo.
The answer is in the middle. Giving Rhapsody its props as an untouchable entity is kinda correct, but structurally for what modern music is it does resemble our closest effort in popular music for an opus. However the modern opus crown is NOFX's The Decline but thats unfortunately buried behind radio play (not comparing to NOFX to Queen, just in sense of depth, profundity and phase in modern music)
Are you taking about a "Jazz Funeral?" At least that's what my jazz studies professor called it. Btw, there's a great version of the Black Parade by Postmodern Jukebox that emulates a jazz funeral and I highly recommend you check it out if you liked the original track
Many folks from different countries started calling MCR "Queenday" after hearing and seeing "Welcome to the Black Parade", so Corey Roy is correct at that scale.
If you like this you should check out the song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” by Taylor Swift Live on Eras Tour. I’ll find a clip for y’all. She puts a drum line in the performance that reminds us emo swifties “Swemos” of MCR “Welcome To The Black Parade”
Hello ! heres is some other great songs whit Toto that would be cool if u could react to sometimes i really recommend this songs by Toto :) Girl Goodbye, Jake to the Bone, You are the flower , Cruel
This is the only song I know of by them, but the video was new to me. Did you recognize Lukas Haas? He was the patient in the vid. He was a great child actor (still acting) in the 90s. This song was really good, but to say it's the modern Bohemian Rhapsody is a stretch. 😆 But I'm still interested in hearing more from them. Much love from Oregon! ❤
It is absolutely that generation's Bohemian Rhapsody. They're not saying it's better than Bohemian Rhapsody. To say otherwise is just trying to gatekeep. Regardless of what genre people listen to, everyone I have ever met likes this song. Even if they hate every other song My Chemical Romance wrote.
To say otherwise means I have a different opinion from you. I'm not interested in gatekeeping anything. And I still stand by my opinion. Hope you have a better day. 🤓
brings back middle school memories in 2006-2008. we all know that first key in the song.

"Queenday" was said by many folks after hearing and seeing "Welcome to the Black Parade".
i just think of it as an essential emo/rock ballad

It also, frankly, sounds a lot like Queen, at least to me. 😂 In general, but Ray's style in particular has a very Brian May vibe about it.
I've always loved this song. It has elements of many generations from WW2 to the present. I also hear a punk rock influence.
That entire Black Parade album doesn't have a bad song on it! There are very few albums I say that about.
Completely agree!!

Corey fucking rules!!!
Never seen a man so in love with all types of music.
Be like Corey!
You mentioned The Umbrella Academy. Gerard Way, the lead singer, is the one who wrote The Umbrella Academy comic book series.
Such a talented person.
They literally say it in the video...
He is also Joe Rogan's cousin ..
@ I had no idea. Cool!
your broken hero - a letter to ashley
MCR did made this song as their own Bohemian Rhapsody
Y'all taught me some trivia that I didn't know today!! About Way being behind The Umbrella Academy. Cool 😊
Love you guys 💞

I introduced my son to the classics and he introduced me to his music. Love this whole album.
I forgot I liked this song by them. I'd like to see you react to 'I'm Not Okay' and/or 'Helena' also by MCR. 😎🤘
I still cry with this one ❤

My Chemical Romance - The Ghost Of You
"Teenagers" is my favorite of theirs
I was 11 when this came out and I was entranced by this song and music video 😂
The black parade album is a classic album to me just let the whole album play.
Helena is an excellent song as well. He wrote that song for his grandmother when she passed. She was their biggest supporter.

Interesting that you said it reminded me of the Umbrella Academy...Gerard Way (the lead singer) actually wrote the Umbrella Academy!!
🖤🖤🖤
You should react to Helena by My Chemical Romance if you haven’t yet. It’s about the lead singer losing his grandmother. It’s great.
2:15 if you werent in someones Top 8 on MySpace, you felt beyond unimportant to that "friend" 😂😂😂 VIP status 😂😂
7:13 Corey likes it👍
You guys should react to Nekrogoblikon. They have a song called "This is it" and it is fantastic
"Bohemian Rhapsody", "Welcome to the Black Parade" and "Aqualung".
Please react to Ghost of you!!

Please do nofx seeing double at the triple rock
Awesome video. Can you please react to Alvin Lee/ the bluest blues.
The song cancer will make you cry a lot
way older than 2017
Were they talking about Mardi Gras? Or just one of the New Orleans funerals?
Second line
Singer wrote or is associated with umbrella academy
Tape?? I am so curious. They formed after 9/11
also that blimp thing wasn't in the original they added it way later. I don't know why it didn't need it.
the guy in the hospital bed, with the black around his eyes was Elliot in the movie ET. just a piece of useless knowledge
The video came out in 2007 not 2017
Its called a second line
Freddy Mercury and Billie Joe had a baby.

It is similar to Umbrella Academy because the singer is the author of the books 😊
Also the events of 9/11 inspired Gerard Way to create MCR, & this band inspired Stephanie Meyer to write the Twilight Books.
Yawwwwwwnnnnnnn🤭🤭🤭
