"Blood," not "Love." in the title there, just sayin'. But yes, MTV was fire then and on fire with this, and this album dropped like The BOMB that it was!
Watching someone else watch it, after I have seen it a million times, it’s super fun. This is the best react video I’ve seen! One of the best songs ever, and awesome reaction!
The lyrical meaning behind "Give It Away" is centered on the philosophy of selflessness and altruistic behavior. The song is titled after its most prevalent lyrical phrase "give it away", which is taken from an experience Kiedis had with his former girlfriend-punk rock singer Nina Hagen - in the early 1980s. Hagen was several years Kiedis' senior and became a role-model during his drug addiction to heroin: "she realized how young and inexperienced I was then, so she was always passing on gems to me, not in a preachy way, just by seizing on opportunities."When Kiedis was looking through her closet he came across a jacket he liked, and commented to Hagen that it was "really cool". Upon expressing this, Hagen immediately told him to keep it. Her reasoning behind this selflessness was due to an attempt to constantly make her life more enjoyable, and explained to Kiedis that "if you have a closet full of clothes and you try to keep them all, your life will get very small. But if you have a full closet and someone sees something they like, if you give it to them, the world is a better place."
Appreciate the backstory!! I always assumed it was something we always said in AA... you only keep what you give away... as in carrying the message to others❤
Flea is a madman on that bass. He's the fkn GOAT 🐐 fr fr. The RHCP's used to come out on stage wearing nothing but tube socks on their junk. They're wild AF. Really good live, super tight. They have lots of funny videos. Mothers Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magick were their best albums, imo. Y'all should check out 'Suck My Kiss', 'I Could've Lied' and 'The Adventures of Lipstick Maggie'. They have an awesome discography though- You can't really go wrong with them.🤘
You guys need to see their Live at Slane Castle video of this song. It was recorded in 2003 and really cool to watch. Anthony Kiedis is all over the stage.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, Herb Ritts, the famous fashion photographer, shot this video. I’m older than you guys and went to two or three shows before this album hit. This song (and video) is my favorites. I so enjoy y’all’s takes. Sending love.
Great video, the first time I saw them they were on a show called “night music “,if you can find that clip you will really like it.the song was “subway to Venus”
One this album came out they were one of the biggest bands in the world, shock value for them was just doing what they wanted..famous rolling stone magazine cover of the band wearing nothing but socks over their stuff, saw them in concert playing in their underwear..wasnt uncommon for one or several during concerts to just play butt naked. Regardless, amazing live, Flea is just a show himself with how he plays the bass
Gotta check out the lyrics. The video throws it off a bit, but it’s all about giving away love, and kindness. I remember looking up the lyrics because he mentioned Marley. “Bob Marley, poet and a prophet Bob Marley, taught me how to off it Bob Marley, walkin' like he talk it” One more verse: “There's a river born to be a giver Keep you warm won't let you shiver His heart is never gonna wither Come on everybody, time to deliver”
Epic song! So, wake up feeling “off”? Not feeling like you have the energy to do anything? No pill needed. Just this one song. It’s a “pull you oughta yo funk” music
I've been impressed with their music since they first came out...and my impression became greater when I read that George Clinton (of P-funk) offered to produce one of their earlier albums. Like...how good are you for THE Funk-King himself to offer that?
I just found you guys, so I don’t know if you’ve listened to them yet. But you would probably like Jackyl. They have great songs. Listen to “The Lumberjack”.
I remember when this came out, it was huge! When MTV was still a thing music was so fun. The whole Love Sugar Sex Magic album is incredible.

@@joescott8877 Oops, thanks for correcting that! I actually know it's 'Blood', don't know why I used 'love', lol!

Absolutely kickass! ❤
Chili Peppers have been gettin' at it for a long time. Since early/mid 80s.

This is full of FUNK.

This is one of me and my grandson's jam on the way to camp! Trying to teach him some new music rocking in his car seat ! 😎🤟
Flea and Chad Smith have a definite jazz vibe, and hold the beat
Goddam this song good man, remember these guys back in the 80s
If you haven't heard it before, check out their cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground".

this really is their best song
Not only one of the great songs of early 90s - still holds up today - but also one of the best videos! Just excellent all the way around.
Every time I catch a reaction from you guys I am impressed with the positivity and open minded attitude. I subscribed hoping to catch more reactions.

I vividly recall watching this as a kid ❤😂
That guitar part reminded me of the beatles.

Way ahead of their time and the video itself is quite simple and great.
I am not ashamed to say I know every word. Weird. Great fucking song. It was too dirty for radio. That’s why

This means ya gotta spin Epic by Faith No More!!!!

The title track is badass.
Looove RHCP! Went to see them last February in Singapore

PLEASE do Joe Satriani "Cool #9" (live) because I know you guys will LOVE it. Blues at it's best. FUNKY.
You Have To Pull Chris Rock’s Induction Ceremony Speech When He Inducted Them!! You Have To Do “Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic” Next!!
I just found you guys, so I don’t know if you’ve listened to them yet. But you would probably like Jackyl. They have great songs. Listen to “The Lumberjack”.
I think you guys would LOVE Weatherman by Dead Sara!!
this.
The other side is a favorite of mine
😊
I like to imagine this is what trippin in the desert feels like
MTV blurred out the nuts shots.
😂
It was played on MTV because just like society, tv was more forgiving then and looked for entertainment not PC content.
Back when the red hots had some funk
Wait what??
Aquatic Mouth Dance-Unlimited Love (2022) not funk??
@@sadracjaramillotapia6762 Have not heard that one, but I doubt its like old RHCP

They played naked at the Woodstock 99 performance. That’s when the 💩 really hit the fan when the fires started.
BREAKING THE GIRL, nowadays it's HEY and STRIP MY MIND for me.
"Simple" video? I think not
Tool ,right in two
For me a fake. Musicinteresseted people of this age? And never heard it ... i guess moneymaking. Sorry
