The history of MCR is so important, especially for this album. Gerard Way and his brother Mikey put this band together in the wake of the horrors of 9/11. This band was their way of processing their grief and rage

I'm a self proclaimed emo kid but what I love about this track is it's so universal. MCR got kinda thrown into the "emo" tag but this track (and album) are much more broad than that. Welcome to the Black Parade isn't just an emo anthem, it's an anthem for anyone who has felt marginalized, struggles with addiction and/or mental heath, feels like there's something wrong with them that they'd cant describe, etc. Its beautiful and it's also a musical composition lesson of how chord and song structure can be utilized to elicit emotional response. Also the entire backstory of the album is that it's about "The Patient" and each song on the album is a different way he's attempting to cope with death and the legacy he will leave behind dying young. It's never explicitly stated how he dies, but The Black Parade itself might not be exactly how he remembers it; this album is almost someone's life flashing before their eyes before they die in musical format. He dies of different causes in multiple songs - in "Mama", he dies in war, mired in guilt for the violence he committed. In "Cancer" he dies of cancer, also mired in guilt, but this time for being a burden to his loved ones. The band has never come out and said specifically what messages you're meant to take away from the album; I like to think it's a memento mori to remind us that we're all marching slowly toward our deaths, and that that knowledge shouldn't be allowed to stop us from glory before it happens. There was a deluxe version of the album that I bought way back in 2006 that had a booklet that explained a lot of the backstory.

I love the fact that you compared it to the speech given to the troops before a large battle because, although it can be interpreted in many different ways, that’s exactly what it is. It’s the pep talk for your internal battles that you might not win everyday, but keep going because the prize of living and life is worth it. Ugh, got me in my feelings. The 1st time I heard Black Parade, it felt very similar to hearing "Zombie" when it came out. I heard the song on the radio and it gave the the best musical chicken skin. I never understood the weight of the lyrics to Zombie, 'til I went to pick up a friend at a club. I was on a stair landing and scanning the patrons for my buddy, when the band that night played "Zombie" and forgot about finding my friend as I truly felt the lyrics. Asked a stranger who the band was, thinking they were local, "The Cranberries". I was like, "I know thats who wrote it, but what band is on stage?" The Cranberries. I was shooketh! I hadn't seen the music video, so I didn't comprehend the history or storytelling. Like Black Parade, the visuals of the band performing in a music video made all the difference in interpreting a meaning. I was 21 on 9/11, and MCR helped me process the emotions at that time. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this song!

Fun fact. The lead singer wrote The Umbrella Academy comics.
Yo, this reaction feels incredibly genuine. One of those moments where you receive joy from someone else's joy. 🙏🏽

This reaction happily made me sub. Loved it! Keep up the good work
Lol. Your two reactions are what I feel at the same time while watching this video. Fist pump bawling.
Gerards voice touches your soul. Just like Amy Lee.
our first reaction to evanescence is coming tonight
wish you can enjoy it
I was about 19 when this song came out and I loved it then but now at nearly 35, after multiple surgeries and health issues, this song and indeed album, hits SO differently and so much harder. Masterpiece 👌
I guess that means I was 18... because I'm 34 now
Was literally the anthem for those of us who went through dark times through our teens when this song was at its peak,
Still the greatest/best REACTION on RUclips !
Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhat a reaction to a stunning song. *Subbed*
I love that this song is about his grandma. She was ill and passed away. It makes so much more emotional when you listen back with that in mind! Helena by them is also about their grandmother. Mikey and Gerards.
deym how i wish i'll hear this song for the first time again and again and again and again.
I love how much you guys loved this! Such an amazing song!
Sometimes I forget why they’re my favorite band of all time and then someone comes along to remind me. Thanks!
hey no problem!!
Just played this for the hell of it. I didn’t think I needed this…but experiencing something for the first time 🤯 Watching you experience this for the first time. It’s flooding back with my own memories. And a little sad/scary for forgetting how personally important that moment in time was. Thanks for bringing it back ❤️
This entire album is a rock masterpiece. Best reaction I’ve seen to this song here
I've had the honor in seeing my chemical romance live in the past and I gotta say it will be one of my most cherished memories, when they played this song everyone went insane and we all sang every verse from the top of our lungs 😭 wish I could back to that day
Not gonna lie, when she covered her mouth on the second 'carry on', I almost lost it myself. What a great song.
One thing I can say that I was successful as a father is that both of my boys both LOVE this song and it is a mandatory play at my eventual wake.
This reaction is a few years old now and somebody surely said it already, but the singer Gerald Way created and wrote (but didn't draw) the Umbrella Academy comic book that got made into a TV series on Netflix.
I was like, "I know thats who wrote it, but what band is on stage?"
The Cranberries.
