You should react to our country's very own slapshock - agent orange its kinda mellow but catchy in a way & its live. ruclips.net/video/Rr9xuDv4om4/видео.html
this song is about Gerard's and Mikey's grandmother Helena (Elena but she was known as Helena by everyone) who passed away, the song deal's with the grief and regret that Gerard feels over not being able to be with her at the end because of traveling but also his addictions, she was very important in Gerard's and Mikey's life as she was the one who taught them music, makeup and motivated Gerard to audition for a school play ,she was also instrumental to the band if I remember correctly she was the one that got them the van they used to tour back on Bullets era (their first record). The song works as a way for all of them to not only say their goodbyes and pay their respects but also to make peace with themselves for the things they did or didn't do while she was alive, it's a rollercoaster trough the 5 stages of grief.
I find people tend to be confused by the line "we are the very hurt you sold." (I saw this guy look at the camera like "what?" lol) I believe that line is Gerard berating himself because his livelihood (the thing that makes him money, AKA the thing he "sells") is music that uses death and loss and "hurt" as a central theme. So he "sold hurt" without realizing that he never truly experienced it until that moment. That's my take, anyway :)
@@KaizerHiwatari I agree, I think he’s talking about the music industry in general when he says “you”. Like we’re doing the things I was critical of just to make money, Im not any better than anyone else. Powerful stuff, my favorite song of all time
Ditto. I remember watching Yahoo music videos on random way back in the day and that's how I found this song and I became an instant fan and it was basically my first intro into "darker" music.
I'm sure many explained the lyrics, but here's mine. Yes, it's about his grandmother Elena who Gerard and Mikey loved very very much. The hatred is self loathing because instead of being with her when she died he ,Gerard, was on tour. Sad part is that Elena probably would have said that he should be on tour, doing his thing, "saving lost souls", and never stop being creative, but still he blames himself not being with her. Loved your reaction, ty. Hugs from Sweden.
4:08 is always my favorite part of the video, that emotion that Gerard expresses is so powerful and I can't help but feel captivated by it. I noticed your reactions to it as well.
Loved this reaction you guys thank you! :) I’m definitely looking forward to more of these guys being on your yt and Patreon:). I’d suggest ‘I’m not okay’.
You nailed it with the combination of sadness and regret. Very insightful! My Chem is special on a lot of levels. One thing to consider, most of their albums have narratives woven throughout. So, some of the lyrics are meant to work on multiple levels and can be a bit "poetic and ambiguous' without the context of the narrative. If you want to do songs with videos, consider: Famous Last Words, I'm Not Okay, NaNaNaNa & Sing combination (The videos together tell a story.)
little late, you guys showed up in my recommended, I hope you liked this song because this one is one of my all-time favourite songs :)))!! (I'm only like 3 mins in btw)

I would recommend listening to the entirety of the Black Parade and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge albums. All of the songs from both of these are great, so it's hard to pick out one or two. I wouldn't recommend their first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, because of how amateurish it sounds. It isn't horrible, but it isn't great either. Their last album, Danger Days, was cool, but seems to be a completely different genre than their previous albums were. A lot of fans were upset about that, but I think that The Black Parade was the pinnacle of their genre. It was never going to get better from there, so I think that MCR was smart in choosing a different direction to take the band. What I'm trying to get at here is that we would love to watch you react to anything from the Black Parade and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in particular. Priority songs: Mama I Don't Love You House of Wolves The Sharpest Lives Sleep Teenagers Famous Last Words I'm not okay (i promise) The Ghost of You Thank You for the Venom Hang 'Em High Cemetery Drive I never told you what I did for a living
Three Cheers is my favorite but Bullets is a close second for me. It helps if you really enjoy that raw punk sound to begin with! But because not everyone does, it's definitely an acquired taste for most. You either like it or you don't lol But I'd love to see them react to a song like, _Early Sunsets Over Monroeville_ , off that album. One of the more emotional ones in terms of Gerard's vocals
In Danger Days, they were kinda acting... That's why they "changed" the name of the band while they recorded it "Killjoys".. It was a complete different universe and it was like an experimentation.. Personnaly, as a early MCR fan, i just understood that each album has his own universe with his own codes.. Welcome to the black parade were performer by "The Black Parade".. not exactly MCR, even if the styles were similar. And at the end of the album Gerard said "The Black Parade IS dead".. What means that they closed definitly that chapter to open a New one ( KillJoy kids btw). Three cheers was they real self album. The only one where they expressed themselves as THEMSELVES.. They real feelings, with stories of their real life.. They needed that and they did it.. But the Black Parade, even if it's a similar style was different because it was based on fiction.. Not Three cheers.. The first album( I brought my bullets..) was more general. They didn't have an Identity yet... They was just like all teenagers Bands singing this or that randomly.. (Sorry if English isn't correct, i'm french.. just tried to explain as well as i can.)
three cheers and black parade are my favourite albums, but bullets is still amazing. danger days is very different, but there are still some amazing tracks on there, and i find the concept very interesting. i dont think mcr even has a "bad" album. i even love conventional weapons (boy division and the light behind your eyes are my favourites). of course, its all up to personal preference, but i wouldnt put it past people just getting into mcr to check out some of their older stuff.
Fun fact: The attendants are all fans who weren't even cast, they just _answered the call,_ and also is the pallbearer with the black fedora, left side, behind Lero.
Nice reaction I’m sure you have been told already this song is about the singer and bass players grandmother there is anger and regret in it towards himself
I remember my brother used to listen to this song all the time when he was in high school back in the early 2000's when this song came out haha brings back some memories! Used to listen to a lot of mcr But God the music video is so emo and angsty! That's emo punk rock for ya lol
might be worth checking out the architects in the future, "Gone with the wind" is a powerful song is worth reading what the song is about makes you appreciate the song even more
Dude has a great voice and his vibrato is perfectly placed. .. if you guys havent seen Marc Mattel's cover of Bohemian rhapsody.. you're missing out. Probably the most impressive cover of anything I've ever witnessed. Anyways great reaction, and have an awesome day 🤘🤘🍻
This won song of the month in 2005 beating green day which they was expected to win, but my chemical romance won and said thankyou to green day for believing in their small band, because it was green day who let my chemical romance come on toyr with them thats how they got noticed
How does she have zero reaction to the lyrics or song. I thought for sure she'd have an input.... "Came a time When every star fall Brought you to tears again We are the very hurt you sold And what's the worst you take From every heart you break? And like a blade you'll stain Well, I've been holding on tonight"

Follow up side note. The woman in mamas ending is Liza Minnelli. She was one of elana’s favorite singers and preformed her lines in mama at no cost
Also a little extra fact... the lead singer Gerard Way is also the creator of The Umbrella Academy comic.
& Penny from Spiderman Inside the Spider verse 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Wait, he created the comic? Like the original comic? I know he was involved with the music from the show but did he actually make the comic?
@@linkalot7415 Yeah he did
@@linkalot7415 he wrote the original stuff before MCR was ever a thing, if I remember correctly.
What?!?!?!?! How did I NOT KNOW THAT!
Sorry. That explains so much!
The passionate vocals is what makes this song so great!
4:07 You both felt that right? I love it!!
Can still remember buying this album when it came out and being blown away, instant fandom.

One of the greatest songs ever created
of one of the best bands ever
Sad and angry are the perfect way to describe gerard way voices (the singer)
Love seeing yall just kind of ~gently vibrating~ to the beat lmao
The brilliance of the band to take the bridge of the song into a “prayer” is quite literally genius. Amazing band
I Don’t Love You. Gerard’s vocals are amazing.
This is my favorite song of theirs. The video is creepy af though. lol

Love this MCR rabbit hole. Thank you guys!

Quite possibly the first song I heard by MCR all that time ago. Don't even remember how I came across them but I was glad I did.

Next: Famous Last Words, Disenchanted, Mama

lmao nice intro guys
Fun Fact: The girl who played the ballerina corpse is now a musician in her own right called Halocene. She does a lot of covers on RUclips.
Uh the dancer in Helena is Tracy Phillips and the singer in Halocene in Addie Nicole…
This song kind of reminds me of a poem called To Helen by Edgar Allan Poe.
If you like this song you’ll really like AFI.
The lady She Taught him how to Sing.
