The black parade is a funeral march. The song is about his father who died and probably had to walk with the body to the grave site (the parade). His father is gone but, he will carry on and stand up for the less fortunate people as his father requested. If you want another song by them, Helena. That one is about death...probably a female friend that overdosed on drugs and might also be the reason why the band is call My chemical romance. Don't know that for sure though.

  • @joedirt688
    @joedirt688 Год назад +43

The Black Parade is a rock opera centering around the character of "The Patient". It is about his passage out of life and the memories he has of it. "The Patient" dies and death comes for him in the form of a parade. This is based on singer Gerard Way's notion of death appearing to a person in the form of their fondest memory, in this case seeing a marching band as a child.

The entire WTTBP album is a concept album surrounding death and how it affects people or what happens when they die

    • @edw1045
      @edw1045 24 дня назад

It is not a marching band and not his fondestest memory. The black parade is a funeral march. His father took him to a funeral thus the questions about death. The marching band are the funeral drummers which they use to do a long time ago. "Dry as a funeral drum". The patience is his father passing now.

"When i was a young boy, my father took me into the city, to see a marching band"
They say that when you're at the brink of death, you envision the best times you've had in life. He's close to his demise, and the parade is his most fond memory of his life.

  • @Patkilla7558
    @Patkilla7558 8 месяцев назад +8

Also, if you pay attention to the video, when Gerard is singing from the TV, there's and actual city, but when the patient dies, the city becomes a barren wasteland.
That's signifying that he's died. The black parade is supposed to be his crossing into the afterlife.

"Starved to death in a land of plenty" means there are lot of resources on this land, but some people have no access to it because the resources are too expensive and they have no money.

This really takes me back. I used to listen this album a lot when it came out. Great stuff. "I've really been on a bender and it shows."
EDIT: I think the "starved to death in land of plenty" means that many of us live in a country where we have home, food, internet, movies, meaningful relationships... And still we have very close to us people who are homeless and hungry and have to worry abour survival every day and somehow we fail to help them.

Your interpretation of the song is brilliant - spot on with the parade that come after you die to take you to the afterlife.
Also, your attention to detail is great with the sign in the background, and your analysis of it.
Again, with the "Día de los Muertos" where they celebrate the departed - spot on !!
    LOVE YOUR reaction !

The U.S. is often called the land of plenty. It is a statement against the social fallout of the bottom ends in a capitalistic system.
The poor can quite literally starve in the land of plenty. Which as a citizen here I find sad and shameful.

"The Land of Plenty" is a reference to the USA. It was a common phrase used to describe the abundance of American resources. America is one of a very few countries that contains every necessity for a society to not only prosper, but thrive.
Starving in it would be from an emotional standpoint. We have become a vapid bunch of apathetic narcissist.

I believe Gerard Way, their lead singer, has said they're not emo, they seem to prefer being called a rock band or pop punk, I think. But really I think they sit in kinda the line between the two, sometimes they're more emo, sometimes they're more pop punk etc. I think because the subject of their earlier music (including black parade) is darker, talking about death etc it gives the impression more of emo when the tempo etc leans more to pop punk/rock. And the Danger Days album definitely feels different, leaning much more rock/pop punk than emo, but it has it's own unique feel to it too.
They have so many great songs that you'd probably enjoy: Teenagers;Famous Last Words; I'm Not Ok (I Promise); Na Na Na; Planetary (Go!); etc
I'm kinda fascinated with the idea of what Pentatonix would do with an MCR song 🤔😊

I'm a big fan of MCR their music relates to a lot of people when they listen to the lyrics like this song tells the story of his father's death through poverty and telling him to look out for those who are ignored by society hence the line " Will you be the protector of the poor, the broken and the damned " and the sign about dying in a land of plenty by poverty in the modern day era these lyrics still ring true to many people are living in poverty and dying because they can't afford to buy food and straving to death it shouldn't be happening we are meant to look out for people less fortunate than ourselves but truthfully the majority of people don't care enough to do anything
You should checkout their song I'm not OK

There's a global aspect to it, too. We're exponentially richer than humanity has ever been, to a degree that's almost incomprehensible, and yet we let millions die every day from preventable causes so Jeff Bezos can buy a fifth mega-yacht or Elon Musk can waste $44 billion on an ego-trip (BTW, the estimated cost to end world hunger permanently, IIRC, is $20 billion, which Elon actually promised to pay at one point and then reneged). These are choices we're making, constantly. We let these obscenities happen. Why? It's not like we don't know where these bastards live.

    [Intro]
When I was a young boy, my father
Took me into the city to see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up, would you be
The savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?"
He said, "Will you defeat them, your demons
And all the non-believers, the plans that they have made?
Because one day, I'll leave you a phantom
To lead you in the summer *to join the black parade"*
When I was a young boy, my father
Took me into the city to see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up, would you be
The savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?"
    [Verse 1]
Sometimes, I get the feeling she's watching over me
And other times, I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets
And when you're gone, we want you all to know
    [Chorus]
We'll carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on, we'll carry on
And in my heart, I can't contain it
    The anthem won't explain it
    [Verse 2]
A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back, and let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end, we hear the call
    [Chorus]
To carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
    Your weary widow marches
    [Bridge]
On and on, we carry through the fears (Oh, ha, ha)
Disappointed faces of your peers (Oh, ha, ha)
Take a look at me, 'cause I could not care at all
    [Breakdown]
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
    I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scar
And give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's who we are
    Just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy who had to sing this song
    Just a man, I'm not a hero
    I don't care
    [Chorus]
We'll carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on, you'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
    Your weary widow marches on
    [Outro]
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part (We'll carry on)
Do or die, you'll never make me (We'll carry on)
Because the world will never take my heart (We'll carry on)
Go and try, you'll never break me (We'll carry)
We want it all, we wanna play this part (We'll carry on)

What year was this released. May answer alot of my questions. My music life kinda stopped around 2000s with a few exceptions. Started out slow but turned into a head banger. Cought my attention. ✌😼👍

Pretty sure they mean starved to death in a land of plenty as a direct critique of America where things can just be so expensive so many people are malnourished.

When you stopped on that banner, "Starved to death in a land of plenty" that was a freak out moment for sure. I mean who would put that on a sign and it actually being true when they made this video? Sure there has been famine in various parts of the world before, but we are coming to a point in history where here in the US there are food shortages on the rise and it could also be said for all of the world we are in a time with technology and science having been incorporated in the mass production of food, even the wealth of more industrialized countries. The only reason why people would starve is because their government dropped the ball. We (as in today's society) shouldn't have a food crisis, but nevertheless scarcity is creeping around the corner. That banner is even more relevant today than it was then.

Starve to death means that person starved to death in the land of plenty. That person is dead. The black parade is a funeral march. Not a parade thus the funeral drummers and not a marching band. He was a kid and did not understand he was at a funeral march with his father

This an anthem from the "EMO" era in the early 2000's. They had a reunion concert in LA a few years ago, instant sell-out. To "Get It" you have to watch it at least 5X. Gerard Way is the singer and primary song writer. Today is lives in the LA area and creates Comic Books. As for your next song; "Helena" same theme.
Off subject; 2NE1, the Queens of Kpop did a surprise 1 song performance at Coachella. It is trending massive in the media, overshadowing the mainliners. It was the first time they had performed together since 2016!! They performed "I am the Best". Suggestion; react to the performance and to the original MV in your reaction video.
