And yet it feels like a mockery to imply he was born to be king while child Thor was claiming enthusiastically that he would slay all those frost giants and Odin just letting him, telling them both were born to be kings all the while knowing that Loki was not meant to be king of Asgard but of the realm they were all taught to despise.

@Wasa Few Thor is not stronger than odin. Odin said it just because thor has the potential to be stronger than odin but he was not stronger here and in infinity war. Asgardians grow stronger the older they get... Old Thor (King) is stronger than odin.

That brief, heartbreaking moment when Loki realizes he's been an ass to the mother he adores and gives that "I'm an idiot" head shake as he goes to her to console and apologize with affection....only she's not really there. And when she's gone, that tight, eye-closed expression of regret that tells us all he actually really loves her. That, my friends, is subtext through acting and he is amazing at it.
Yep. And the only thing that probably made that memory even a bit close to bearable for Loki would be the knowledge that Frigga clearly knew he was lying/in denial.
It's like Frigga said to Thor in Endgame: she could "see with more than eyes" - on top of knowing them all of their lives. She knows when her boys are trying to hide something, just like she knows that they love her - even with all of their baggage.

While everyone is rightfully praising Tom's performance, I have to give some credit also to Rene Russo. The way she tries to smile and laugh to hide the pain his words caused her, the tears in her eyes as the hologram fades away etc.
Yes yes, her performance deserves praise as well! She's very good at playing the loving mother, who wants only what is best for her children even when they misbehave and rebel. Although, I suppose "misbehave" is putting it mildly... I think any mother would feel pain at being told by her child that she was not their mother, even if she knew that they were lying through their teeth.

Thor too. Even when Loki was at his worse Thor just wanted to stop him not seriously hurt him. He was heartbroken every time Loki died. It's just too bad Loki couldn't see the 2 people who loved him most over his need to be accepted by Odin.

He hesitated before saying "you are not",he didn't said it inmediatly,because he didn't wanted to say it but his ego took over him and he did anyways. Loki truly loved Frigga,and Frigga truly loved Loki. The way he keeps calm until the guard is gone and then destroys everything in the room while being alone,ending up completely broken and a mess. He probably thinks she died thinking that he hated her just like everyone else. And now he can't apologize. The least he can do is ask "did she suffered?" he doesn't know what else to do.

Loki is normally so quick about stating his opinion and insults without hesitation but when Frigga asked him “Then am I Not you’re mother” he hesitated and even when saying she wasn’t he had a quiet voice and seemed to be forcing the words out his mouth
I love this scene for that reason because Loki has no hesitation in telling every other part of his adopted family that they aren’t his family, but when it comes to Frigga it’s so difficult for him and unlike the others he regrets it
Loki didn't want to hurt Frigga and he obviously regret saying that... But isn't it quite true that many a time we knowingly or unknowingly take out our anger or end up being rude to our mother or the person whom we love the most though we didn't meant to....
Loki is a God, but the humanness in him is what touch the audience the most.

His mother who loved him no matter what, who taught him her magic, who raised him lovingly as her own... and his last words to her were to disown her all because of his foolish stubborness and pride. Like some stupid rebellious teenager throwing a tantrum and the mother taking the burnt of his frustrations, because he is too far gone to care and remember she has and always will, be his unconditional support.
Taking it all for granted, ungrateful. And now she's gone and never coming back.
The sense of loss and the regret he must have felt upon realizing this would have been overwhelming. Enraged at himself, at her murderers, the guilt, the sorrow, the powerlessness, the painful reality hitting full force.
This is how I felt when I first watched this part of the movie and even now I hold back my tears because I can't bear the thought to be in Loki's shoes.
I think we all tend to think our parents are immortal somehow and neglect them. We forget that time is precious, and pass to quickly and I'd really hate it if mine were to go so suddenly before I got to spend quality time with them. Or worse, leave them on harsh words I don't mean like Loki did.
Caramelle Salley Well Frigga kinda lied to him all his life, I don’t really think that’s just a tantrum or pride or stupid. Like Odin and Frigga really fuck it up on that, his identity was not only erased but he also grew up with tales of the Frost Giant being this terrible beings that did no good and deserved to be slaughtered, when he was a Frost Giant himself. And Frigga not only keep on the lie but also allowed it. Yes she did love him and consider him her son, but she still fuck it up and was as fault as Odin is. And yes it was shitty what Loki said, but he didn’t know she was going to die and he had all the rights to be angry with her.
Yes parents are not forever and sometimes we forget that. But also parents can and hurt their children with their actions, even if they don’t intended it, and children have all the rights to be angry and to process the pain of being hurts by their parents.
It’s really sad that Loki and Frigga relationship had to end like that, bc I feel like they used to have a beautiful relationship and they could have recovered it if they would have had the opportunity of talking, apologizing and forgiving each other.
Don't forget In infinity war Thor's last words to Loki were "you really are the worst brother"

Loki was always so quick to insult and disown every other family member but with Frigga, he hesitated. And his expressions show so much regret. Loki loved his mother more then anyone and his last words to her were “You’re not”.
When he says she’s not his mother, that literally felt like a hot knife through butter. Painful. Then she dies and it’s just like obvious he regretted that being the last thing he said to her.
After watching *Loki* tv series we all got to know that Loki really loved his mother with all hearts. After all he was her son.

Thor attempts to kill an entire race and puts his friends and brother in life threatening danger and is given a life lesson about becoming a better person and what it takes to be a good king by his father and Loki does the same thing and so his father throws him in a dungeon for the rest of his life, disowns him and then he's lectured that he's as loved by his family as Thor is 😅
And fed a lie he would be a king with thor... and was never truly accepted as Odins son and thors equal.

Regarding the Destroyer, Loki was afraid that Thor would return and kill Loki, because he was a frost giant. Thor enjoyed the battle with the frost giants. And Loki just wanted to earn his father’s love and be equal to Thor in his father’s eyes
1:02 Loki’s small sway back being hit by the fact he will never see the person he loves the most again is heartbreaking. He never expected Odin to punish him like that and you see his whole demeanor and vibe change. He would have made a snarky remark at any other punishment but this truly shocked him and hurt him at his core. He looks like he is about to cry :(

All the Loki scenes are so well-written in this film. I love the fact that when he gets the news of Frigga's death, you see him putting down one of the books she had brought him. It just shows, without any dialogue, how guilty he felt about being mean to her and dismissing her books as well as her maternal love for him. He had finally come around and decided to stop sulking and read those books, which was an acknowledgment of his very strong connection to her... And now he will feel even worse, as she is dead and he will never get the chance to apologize.
I just realized that Mama Thunder gave both son's life altering love advice on the last day of her life.
Loki and Frigga are so damn interesting characters.
In the Loki series, Loki needs to have a similar moment with Frigga that Thor got in Endgame.

...this reflects Loki’s death scene in Infinity War. Like how Loki dismissed his mother just before she died Thor dismissed Loki just before he got killed by Thanos. Loki did what he could for Thor like how Frigga did what she could to comfort Loki. All this family drama is so heart wrenching 😭

I can't help but think of Peter Parker's (Trilogy series) situation and Loki's being the exact same here. Both of them throw away the words of the ones who raised them, only for the last words they ever exchange to be an argument. You can imagine Loki's sheer anguish. He couldn't hold her hand as she died or even attend her funeral.
