they fight each other a lot. it is like an ancient rivalry. the owls is clever, wanting to bring the fight inside, where its larger size and strength is to its advantage and the agility of the kestrel is nullified. very clever.
When the Owl goes back inside, he tells his mate "Hide, I want the Kestrel to think I'm alone, then when he comes in, we'll jump him and have him for dinner"

@@mikeef747 no. My point is that they are not keen on attacking nor killing other Raptors. In fact, they are more commonly preyed upon by more formidable raptors, and other owl species.
There was a video of an barn owl in a Kestrel birds nest and then it keeps attacking it whenever it comes back the mother Kestrel lay some eggs and then one of the eggs hatched and then the owl killed the baby Kestrel and killed the poor baby kestrel
American Kestrels AKA sparrow hawks nest in hollow trees or abandoned woodpecker nests . This likely this was an attempt by a female sparrow hawk steal the nest site from the Owl that didn't end well . Female sparrow hawks are larger than the males .
Calling a kestrel, a sparrowhawk is incorrect. Sparrowhawks are actually a species of accipiter. The term that you’re using, it’s quite dated, and antiquated
@@remyogun8270 from Audubon website AMERICAN SPARROW-HAWK, Falco sparverius ( AKA American Kestral ) Video was an American Barn owl against an American Sparrow Hawk squabbling over a nesting site . What is with these Kestrels constantly trying to steal the nests of owls? I had no idea this was even a real thing but it is. I have seen so many videos of it and in everyone...the owls are literally whooping the kestrels. Spanking them over their knee...if they had them. When will they learn to just find an uninhabited spot?

Or the barn owl will pay it a visit at night.

mate? looks more like a single chick...The fact there's only 1 chick in the nest makes me think this isnt the kestrels first house call
the mom went into the nest because the kestrel has little chance inside. 👏
The owl is deadly no cap
Thank you for the video! Glad the recordings are running well! 😃
Glad you liked it! Amazing to see these attacks by different species!
Owl says;
"C'mon back after dark...."
Nature is all around, even next door to a road and passing traffic. A most diverting video of what goes on in other lives.
Being an owl is not so easy after all😅

Awesome footage!

Barn Owl has one bad ass grip with those claws. The Kes would get a very nasty injury scrapping with Barny.

The baby was so sill on the left I did not even notice it the first time through the video.
I'm amazed at how nasty owl nests always are.
