Our 2024 Owlets continue to explorer. This time giving us some lovely close up views and comical moments. It won't be long before they leave for the last time. We're hoping to switch the perch camera to one with Auto Focus to help with these close up shorts, but our camera manufacturer currently doesn't offer an Auto Focus camera that also has sound. Hopefully a future project!

Our 2024 Barn Owl chicks fledge the nest. They're overcome some devastating setbacks when their mother was lost a few weeks previously leading to us loosing the youngest two chicks. The father has been a super star and kept up with prey deliveries giving the remaining three a real fighting chance. One of our 2024 chicks takes it's first look at the outside world.

The unringed female returns to our pairs nest. This time however she receives a cold welcome. With eggs being incubated, our female is not happy.

What looks like a female with no ring, invades our pairs nest. With the second egg of the season laid, and 4-5 more to come, this is a critical time for our pair. Not exactly claws at dawn, it make me wonder if this female was known to the pair.

Egg laying season has started just in time for Easter.. but we have an unwelcome visitor to the nest box (although we love seeing them!) Likely looking for a place to call their own, this Kestrel soon discovered the nest already occupied.

An unknown Barn Owl lands near the Somerset Barn Owl pair. With their first egg just laid, the intruder is quickly seen off by the male.
