Birds are crazy. Their self protection brain is virtually non existent with species when it comes to protecting their young. My friend and I had some tiny little bird attack us, was a ground dwelling type in a field in Vermont. We could have easily stepped in it, I’m sure any predator the size of a rat could squash it, but it simply did not care. The ferocity this thing had even scared us and that big bluffing is exactly how that species has survived. This thing would have ran off an elephant it’s every was so boss 😂
Oh I see, she’s trying to protect one of her own baby that was previously left exposed. And she did this with so much care as she was able to have one of her babies, safely joining the others in her care. ❤❤❤❤❤
"...mum I'm cold..." "Huh? Oh crap, sorry-hold on I'll get you!" (turns and forgets kid a bit) "...mama help..." "AH RIGHT RIGHT, SHIT- sorry baby. I didn't mean that. Stressful day. Now get under my ass."
Actually a rat would be big prey for a Kestrel to take down. Typically they hunt large insects, small birds, and mice. They are about the size of a Rock Pigeon you see in the city. So they are quite small for a Bird of Prey. Not to mention the fact that Rat's in general are pretty brazen and have a good set of chompers in their mouths. They can also inflict damage when they need to. I have nearly 40yrs of experience in the avian field having dealt "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey.
Well, yes and no. Black rats (Rattus rattus) and young Brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) are definitely occasionally part of the kestrel‘s diet. A huge adult brown rat like the one in the Video would be way too big to be targeted by a Kestrel though.
Kestrels kill by using their talons, but they need to be moving quite fast to be effective. The rat was probably fairly safe as the mother kestrel didn't have space to attack at speed.
Lmaooo it comforts it's baby by humping it's face. "Don't be scared baby mama is gonna dry hump your face and make you forget about the scary rat by doing something much more scaring to you now shut up and take it skwah! skwah! skwah!" Lmao
I hope that rat doesn't come back. It was clearly after those chicks, and it will wait until mom isn't home and bite and pick away at those chicks until they die.
Whoa that rat was huge! Good job mama! She's a good protector.
no thats not accurate
the food manage to retreat is more accurate
Animals aside from man have nothing but instinct to try to perpetuate their species. Man is lucky to have brains and opposable fingers.

Rat was like
Chicken dinner tonight..
omg I'm the dinner !
RAT: ayee dinner
KESTREL: what a coincidence!
Not the best place for a rat...
Yea rats should be living in holes
😂😂😂😂😂
for the next brood, the nesting box must definitely be better secured against intruders. The rats come to the box more often

Almost like having a pizza delivered to you when you didn't even order it :D
More like Chinese food
She didn’t even let the rat come to the surface and attacked while the rat was hanging in the air 😮
Whatta mom 😍
wonder what would have happened if the mother was not there 😭
@@diegoriosmx606 that’s obvious. They’d all be eaten.
Funny how after the meeting she just:oh one of the kids misplaced let me fix it
😅 The mama; she took care of business, didn't she?
"...mum I'm cold..."
"Huh? Oh crap, sorry-hold on I'll get you!"
(turns and forgets kid a bit)
"...mama help..."
"AH RIGHT RIGHT, SHIT- sorry baby. I didn't mean that. Stressful day. Now get under my ass."
Pulling in her chick... So smart!
Yes, what a good mom she is! That was just so sweet. It's just too bad she couldn't get that rat.
@Tony Paterson Oh thx for telling me that.
@@simplycurlyde I assumed by getting the rat you meant she couldn't kill the rat and then feed it to the babies when it came in.
@@simplycurlydekestrels are too small to get a rat that big but they can still defend though
If the mother hadn't been there it would of of been heart breaking to watch those chicks being taken away by the rat.
that's because she don't know to build door.
Very good maternal instinct
YOU PICKED THE WRONG HOUSE FOOL
great mom😘
Kids, who ordered rat for dinner?
good maman! god protect her and her babies!
I have more respect for this Kestrel than most parents in this society

They can also inflict damage when they need to. I have nearly 40yrs of experience in the avian field having dealt "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey.
Pretty sure rats are also part of Kestrel's diet, that rat just tried to serve itself instead.
Well, yes and no. Black rats (Rattus rattus) and young Brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) are definitely occasionally part of the kestrel‘s diet. A huge adult brown rat like the one in the Video would be way too big to be targeted by a Kestrel though.
That rat knew he F’d up before his feet even hit the floor.
Good strong protecting mama ❤
00:52 she lost a beautiful tail feather while doing her wing-fu :)
La Curiosidad Casi le Cuesta La Vida a La Rata,...
Esse rato é folgado 😮
Miseriqueima tá amarrado
That rat made a mistake.
He’ll never do that again.
My cockatiels bite's pretty damn hard, that rat must've been getting about ten times that, I'm surprised it got away with its hide intact
Aren't rats part of a kestrel's' diet?
Rat : Sorry Mr.Kestrel thought you were a wee Lil' Pigeon , hard to tell in the Dark ! see-ya
Are we gonna ignore the fact that rat came from the roof ✋😭
紅隼真的有責任心
Rat: oh dinner
Kestrel: Get the hell out of my barn house and leave my chicks alone
Esso que é uma grande mãe incrível, como os animais dão grande exemplo a nos ser humano racionais 😢
that rat picked the wrong time and place to fuck with the mother hawk.
That Rat lucky to get out of their with its life.
If those Talons would have gotten into the Rat, it would have been game over.
Kestrels kill by using their talons, but they need to be moving quite fast to be effective.

Rat: nope I’m out ✌️
The Kestrel got mad because it didn't order take out. 🤗😂🤗
“Sorry, come back here few weeks later.”
The eggshells were getting in the way.
The way that bird spread its wings out. Looks like it was about to do some karate moves
Скворечник сделан плохо. Нет козырька и большое крыльцо для входа.
Посмотрите инструкцию как сделать нормальный скворечник.
Mom bird was in stress
Перетаскает крыса птенцов, пока мама на охоте будет
What exactly the rat was trying to do, she's not match for a kestrel? In fact rats are on the kestrel's menu.
Not necessarily. Smaller rats can be hunted, but the ideal size of a kestrel prey is a mouse. Adult big rats like this one is too much for its talons.
Dinner delivered 😂
Mom...☺️
Save birds
Papa Kestrel out, picking off the rats family one by one.
Impossible situation!😎
Hoo he could have be a meal for them.
He wanted to eat and was nearly eaten.

Food in the bed 😂😂
Lmaooo it comforts it's baby by humping it's face. "Don't be scared baby mama is gonna dry hump your face and make you forget about the scary rat by doing something much more scaring to you now shut up and take it skwah! skwah! skwah!" Lmao
Well bless your heart. Do other people actually think your comments are funny? This video sure has attracted some 🆔 iots.

No chance for the rat.
I hope a random homeless person walks by and presses some ham against the owls house.
Жаль удрала крыса. Эта еда вообще оборзела
Get that rat mama!!!!!
Rodent's revenge.
Let the rat 🐀 try that with an owl 🦉 in residence.
I hope that rat doesn't come back. It was clearly after those chicks, and it will wait until mom isn't home and bite and pick away at those chicks until they die.
If something doesn't eat the Rat first...lol
