I disagree. I am actually really enjoying many of the episodes so far from 1988. I like a good passionate discussion in any case with home truths aired etc. Don't get me wrong, Hilda was a great character, but time to move on......
April 1988 is clearly the time Alan Bradley starts to show his true colours. There's a marked difference in his behaviour between March and April, despite earlier flares of temper against Martin and Terry.
I'm very interested in Alan's character development, he must have had that inherent malice all along... he didn't suffer a nervous breakdown, which would be one reason for his sudden change, so it must just be that the writers suddenly decided that they wanted him evil?
Glad someone has said this. I am 53 and grew up with Corrie have so much been enjoying all of this screening and feel very privileged to be able to see it all again. Alan is showing his true colors for sure. All going to happen this year mid year around July 88 I guess. I don't think I have this wrong... But when someone gives or lends you 6k going back over 2 decades, Or really at anytime for that matter and one spends it on something it wasn't intended for.. well I would be furious as well. Alan Bradley what a piece of what ever you think folks. Hate how he treats Rita. He is a slime ball for sure. But I think most of us knew this was coming.
@@bsaunders5271 He always had the evil streak in him right from the start. He showed flashes of it early on. Two timing Rita Thumping Terry. Admitting he was on a suspended sentence for assault. I think he was one of the characters that was introduced with an end vision that he would be the Alpha male who was a Jeckyl and Hyde in that he could be very pleasant and flick to downright nasty in the blink of an eye.
Alan's been simmering his evil trait since the beginning with his attitude wreaking of 'how dare you not jump at my proposal' towards Rita. Also, stringing both Rita and Gloria along in the past. Alan looks after No. 1 alright and always has!
Wow, the bloke Alan cheated and throws out the Rovers after a loud confrontation, is the same actor who played the same part a couple of years before when he was dissatisfied with the paint job on his car that Brian didn't do.
I really like how the script writers have developed Shirley Armitages character! First we see her as another machinist along with Ivy, Vera & Ida. Then we see Shirley out & about with nights out with Ivy & Vera More speaking parts, more exposure in the factory politics Now shes quite a developed character! I love how she comes out with snippets of Knowledge & culture which go over the heads of her fellow workers, but they think shes a cut above & respect her. I also think she hides her light under a bushel & can grasp far more than she lets on. She's a clever girl & intelligent & thats to the credit of the writers Bringing her to a big story line role is great & linking her gradually with Curly is also super Curlys mates have always chided him for his many GCE O levels incl 2 A levels because none of them have gained the level of education as Curly has! Pairing Shirley & Curly is such a good plan as they go along together we will see Shirley coming into her own. With Curly her confidence will grow & i see them having fulfilling discussions & learning together! At least i hope so, Another thing thats shocked me is 1988 doesnt seem that long ago to me, i remember events of that time so well! Yet im gobsmacked by the characters smoking in shops, other people's homes & in places that, today we gawp at! It seems so outrageous that smokers did it everywhere & thought nothing about it But it shocks me now, seeing it. The rights of people, ethnic minorities were sadly lacking then, its alarming to see what people got away with then & how it isnt tolerated at all now in the 2020s onward! There is still racism & basic rights which are often ignored but compared to 1980s it really is shocking to see how others were treated! Some things ARE much better now & its thanks to these old Corries that we see the vast gap has really narrowed regarding ethnicity & human rights! Thank goodness we got these things more or less right but still theres room for improvement & The concerns for health & environment re; fatty foods, drinking & smoking!!! Thank you loads PG 66 for these episodes Regards 🇬🇧👧
God Percy is annoying.. and he seems to be in every scene. There’s only so many times you can reference the battle of El Alamein before it gets tedious.
I ❤ Percy! he's a good character and through all the insanity he would give the shirt off his back to help someone, ontop of being a rotton old basterd lol
Wow. Thank u You for pointng that out. I dd not pick that one up. Thank you for all your hard work. It is brilliant being so privelged to watch these brilliant episodes. I still enjoy even though the changes are stating to be seen on the street. 🎉
Curly's Pyjammas and string to keep the bottoms up are hysterical. Telling Shirley he was one of Natures No 11's was a touching scene. Surprised Percy hasn't got them under observation through his ex Army Catering Binoculars.
22:53 Blimey, she'll half kill him. Shocked at Norman's parents reaction to seeing Shirley. She is very likeable, inside and out. Response to video only.
Emily's holier-than-thou santimoniousness over Curly moving in with Shirley is beyond annoying. As I recall, Emily herself was no virgin bride when she married Ernest back in 1972. His death seemed to turn her into a born-again Mother Superior, Saint Emily of Weatherfield. She also sanctified their marriage, in retrospect, when in reality, she and Ernest used to quarrel bitterly much of the time.
Betty Turpin is alot slimmer in these episodes ! Its always the same, as a character piles on the weight they are mysteriously absent from Corrie for a few weeks & though we dont see them for a while, they are referred to or spoken to on the phone etc Then when they return they usually have lost weight or are very tanned, wrinkle free, toned muscles, looking very fit & relaxed! They must have had a few intensive weeks at a health spa? I remember an episode from the 1970s when Elsie Tanner had been absent for a while & prior to her " leave" she looked quite Matronly but on her return looked very svelte & slim! Then an odd incident occurred Elsie was in the Kabin when Mike Baldwin came in for his cigars Whilst Elsie chatted with Rita & Mavis, as Mike turned to leave You can hear him say to Elsie.. " keep taking the Slimming Tablets " .... hmmm Cheers 🇬🇧👧
Very true, Patricia and Johnny were great friends apparently and the jibes was friendly banter between them. There are a few jibes Mike makes which are great fun.
So glad you said that. I was thinking the same thing. Ken is unbearable and he was a ridiculous jerk to mike…as he always is. Ken is so smarmy, I can’t stand him and if I were Alec there would have been no apology. If Betty and Gloria don’t like it they could leave. And if I were Mike I would have had MUCH more to say to Ken.
Only four characters still in the show from what i consider the Golden Age of Corrie - Ken , Rita , Gale and Audrey ( I cant bring myself to include Kevin Sally in that list though i guess i should) and soon Gale will be gone and it will be down to three - Having said that i have never watched an episode since the night Emily Bishop left for Peru - That was it as far as im concerned
Was about to say that I can’t stand Jenny….but the writers are to blame! There’s no way a 16/17 yr old would be so ‘worldly’ to come out with her ‘script’ ….🤷🏼♂️😳
Well, Mike certainly won that round, and I don't mean with drinks! Alec adopted great business sense there by telling Ken to leave. His trade would be no real loss, although it was obvious he would soon be welcomed back again. On another note, Ken has a real nerve questioning anybody's conscience after his violent and juvenile behaviour towards Mike a couple of years ago. He is great at shouting his mouth off but is quite pathetic overall and nobody to be admired.
I think the very early signs of Coronation Street going downhill started the day Hilda Ogden left. It just feels...different.
100% agree.
Something I noticed happening was, they started having more and more yelling arguments between everyone. It's kind of unsettling.
We@@Deborah4Antiques
No it started a bit before that - Its no wonder Jean Alexander decided to leave her storylines were getting so cringy towards the end

Ah, bless her. Rita is incapable of putting 2 and 2 together. Yet, she never misses an opportunity to take the living piss, out of Mavis.
Yeah strange that. She was on it with women.
The way that Alf is being judged and verbally attacked by interfering busybodies is making me angry!
If that was me, Gina would've left, right sharpish, through the front window.
She's a nightmare. Mind you, so is Sally

Don Brennan gets on my nerves. I loved that Mike always wiped the floor with him.
Brennan is an obnoxious know it all always poking at Mike. And Jen can shit his mouth as well. Lol. Here we go.

Is that Blossom from EastEnders as Shirley's mum?
It is, fabulous actress, last seen heading to Israel with Felix 😂
Definitely!
I'm loving the Mike/Don feud - I didn't realise it went back so far, I always thought it started in the mid 90s
Bloomin’ Shirley! Vera comes over with the express purpose of wishing her well-and she says it’d just be nice to feel that someone was on her side.
Maybe she thought Vera came to poke her nose in and have gossip to take back to the factory
wheres alan bradleys ladders ? if he s putting in alarms does he sprout wings to climb buildings?
Umm, he was on top of a ladder though.
I think a van would be more use.
