You're my new favourite golf coach Marcus, this makes so much sense. I've always set up straight to the target with driver with a forward ball position, could never hit a draw club always exited miles left, this set up and swing direction to the right with a free release is key.

Marcus I’ve been watching your channel and really like what I’m seeing. I have ordered your training aids and hope they come soon across the pond. I use to play professionally back in the nineties but I’m 63 now and some things have changed physically 😮. Can you comment or do a segment on how the club length particularly for a driver can affect these motions. Drivers have become so long these days and I’ve shrunk to 5’-6” it seems when I choke down to 43.5” I can get around much better. I see a lot of lpga players doing that. Your insight would be appreciated.

  • @touristguy87

If your driver has enough loft you can get good distance hitting down on the ball...you only need to swing up on the ball if you close the face dramatically at impact and likewise swinging up with a high-lofted driver or a driver with an open-enough face will accomplish very little but a push-cut
Whether you need to swing up or down completely depends on the attack angle at impact and the desired shot-height.
For a given clubhead speed every shot with a driver can be played like a fine instrument by varying the attack-angle and dynamic loft.
it's not a matter of taking more lessons. It's a matter of actually making good use of the lessons that you've taken.

Great video Marcus. I don’t think I freewheel the club head at all and thus struggle with an open club face yet am too afraid that if I do freewheel it, it’s going to duck-hook massively left! How do I get past this? Is it a feeling of the hands/wrists “rolling over” and how early in the downswing should we try to feel this happening? I noticed Matt Fitzpatrick last week in a slow motion swing that I paused (from down the live), that the palm of his trail hand was facing down the fairway when his hands appeared just above his lead shoulder in the follow through.

    Hi Marcus,
Mark from Australia I can hear your videos better thank you.
I use your teachings all the time, as I totally understand the principles.
I am a drawer of the ball, as my natural tendency now after 20yrs of playing.
Now in intention, & moving around the ball to feel & play a fade/slice. I can do it accidentally! but even if I grip with an open iron face. With a call it an open stance, my subconscious will hit a straight shot. In the direction of my stance, so basically a straight left of target shot. Now I have a natural strong grip, which works for my driver, & woods. But when I require a fade/slice with my shorter iron's my subconscious mind will compensate! Any set up & swing change for a slice, & just hit a straight shot left of my intended intention?
Marcus am at a LOSS! the only result that may give me a fade only, is to weaken my grip. But that is just too much to remember, to keep my natural strong grip with driver etc.. & have to weaken my grip with an short iron.
    ANY HELP????
    Regards
    Mark

This is an amazing golf lesson & light bulb moment. Just one question you are squaring the club face essentially with the rotation of the trail hand. The general consensus appears to be that they should cock directly upwards through the backswing, but what if you break them away from the ball like you would hitting a tennis ball (like a slapping motion)? Do pros do it differently? I feel that I should be doing it the first way, but I feel my control at impact is better if I just unload them and 'slap' at the ball.

Once you correctly do this will it feel that you are massively aiming to the right?

If your driver is set up open or closed, ultimately it shouldn't matter as where the club face ends up at impact is what counts! An open face wouldn't adjust the path (which is what moving around the ball effectively does) but whatever works for you, ultimately!

Marcus in this explanation of both swing path & hand rotation how do you at set-up address the clubface?...square to path intention (out to the right which is also square with the body alignments) or square (but closed to body alignment) to the actual target?.

When you say move round the ball. Do you mean the ball is at the centre of the spoked wheel?

    • @GRFGolf
      @GRFGolf  2 года назад

You set up wherever you want the ball and then move round. Ball position remains constant relative to you then 👍

Bonjour Marcus, la face de votre club au départ est elle dirigée sur votre objectif, c'est à dire le centre du fairway ou bien on s'en fout ?
Hi Marcus, is your club face at the tee aimed at your target, i.e. the centre of the fairway, or does it matter?

    • @GRFGolf

Doesn't really matter but does depend on your awareness of the variability and attunement to regulating it

appreciate your vids - i understand for demonstration purposes you are using a hula-hoop, but the club head moves more in an elliptical shape, the best players in the world elongate that flat spot in the bottom of the arc thru various methods but most commonly they stack the left sternum on top of the left hip joint prior to impact so that they can rotate their mass around virtual line. you can get on track man all day and night and match the patch, face and AOA but if you don't organize those joints, you really are handicapping yourself.
