    Another way if looking at availability is to consider the in-game ship respawn timer when your ship is inevitably destroyed or just left at another station: what makes some of the basic (and even advanced) starter ships so useful as daily drivers or taxi services is that you can respawn them usually within a minute or two.

    as someone who is only just starting to really learn about the game this list supports my idea that the nomad was a good idea, especially on sale for 71. Among these starters only the base cutter, the cutlass and the nomad checked every box. Neither is best in class at anything really but for someone starting out i think they both are a great choice to start getting out there and learning the game. great video

    I think its pretty interesting that they've got availability for Connie ships as a starter, but not the new c1 which I feel is a better ship for new players.

      That's mostly because it's one of the very first ships in the game. All of them are pretty much constantly available outside of special circumstances.

    Honestly i would recommend to just start with either mustang or Aurora ... both of them are good enough to get into the game the availability is not a problem and the price is quite good. From there it is reasonably easy to safe enough money to get bigger/better/differnt ships in game.

    One thing i like to think about for starter ships, beside availability is usefulness lifetime. once you have larger ships, be it by real money or in game, is your starter still a ship you goto for something. Can your starter fit in the hangar of a larger ship you my get? does it have enough upgraded range/speed to be a run-about when taking a larger ship would be more difficult?
    A starter ship is the only ship you are REQUIRED to spend real money on, so barring CCU (spending more money) it this a ship you will ALWAYS want in your hangar?
    i.e. i think the Cutter is a greater starter, but i can't think of a situation where i would use the Cutter when i have a Cutlass available. But i always have a use for my Aurora, its not the best starter, but it is still relevant, a least to me.

    Personally, I think Availability as being the most important factor. It doesn't matter if the ship as everything you would like in a starter if it's only available in a small period of time. Thank you for putting this video together. Hopefully many who are considering SC watch this before picking up a package.

  • @FrozenKnight21

    This is probably the most comprehensive list ive seen, thank-you. The availability of this list will help many new players.
    Though i think i disagree a little bit with how you are deciding the starter aspect. To me Starter is any ship you can start with. So, anything sold as a stand alone with a game package. Thus the buy in packages. So fot me the connie should be on this list. But not the carrack as currently you cant buy it as a stand alone with a game package, sure you can get it as part of a multiship with game package but that is not a starter as you now have a fleet and argueably are not just starting. Even though the connie comes with the merlin, which is a consideration. The merlin is not listed as part of its package, and thus it just a temp bonus for now. But with the merlin being so cheap in game, means the connie would be the true carrier gameplay starter.

  • @Tschenggo

    Great work comparing all the starters. Personally, my favorite Starter (though some may argue it is already to specialized for a starter) is the C8R. When I first started I did pick the Avenger Titan on a recommendation, but as I started playing I never used bedlogging but I found a lot of joy in the Bunker and FPS Content of the game, so to me the C8R is my favorite starter. And while I may be able to bring a buggy or go ROC Miner, I can easily bring a friend and we have external Storage on board to trade and swap items without dropping them on the floor. For a more "general purpose" I bought a Freelancer MAX in Game

    • @I_enjoy_some_things
      @I_enjoy_some_things 7 месяцев назад +1

      Yep. The C8R is awesome. I almost always find myself flying around in the Pisces vs. anything else. I do a lot of Bunker Missions & meeting up with others for events. The Pisces and its C8R variant is PERFECT for that. If I were starting again, I would get whatever Pisces variant is available in a Starter Package.
      Honorable mention goes to the Origin 125a (and 100i). Their handling is incredible. They just go where you want them to, idk how else to describe it. It's like flying a Lexus.

  • @Storm-Cleaver
    @Storm-Cleaver 7 месяцев назад

    I agree with you that there's more to being a good starter than just being cheap. The snubs being a great example, cheap, but no QT drive so they're not good for solo play outside of AC. Conventional wisdom for years was that the Aurora MR was the best starter, I didn't switch from it to the Mustang Alpha until the Mustang's cargo box started working. Once the Aurora's Cargo "grid" works and you can do delivery missions with it without having to keep them inside, I'll probably go back to that as my favorite of the two cheapest. I had always recommended the Avenger Titan for those that could afford it. A beautiful ship for what it is and we really should see more of it in the 'verse. Considering the (in-game lore) availability of Drake ships, I'm glad that the Cutter series is such a nice one. For most people, The Cutter base model or Rambler are now my primary recommendation for new pilots in the 'verse. We really should see more Drake ships in the 'verse and the Cutter series is a wonderfully flexible little daily driver when you're just starting out. Having the STV fit in the back really adds value to them, though once the PTV gold standard goes live, that'll be an even better vehicle for the series.

    Availability is an interesting metric, but one metric that isn't mentioned but I would say is fairly core to star citizen is the interior, if any, and how much that slows down entering a ship. It also has some applicability when it comes to passengers and loose cargo ofc

    As it stands at this point, a starter ship is of course any ship that the player can afford at the time, the question should be what ships will be placed on the list as beginners' ships for new players when the game is released? There will come a time when we will not be able to buy ships, a new player will buy the game and when they begin playing, they will need to create their character and chose from a list of ships which one they would like to start the game with. Which ships will be on the list and how many ships will be available to choose from will be entirely up to CIG? Therefore, availability of certain ships will not be the main concern, no it will be what does CIG consider as being a starter ships, when the game releases all new players may have to start the game in Cutters.

    I think you messed something up Ray,
    Specifically with the "yourself" category. Instead of having a dead category where everything gets max points, this should have been representative of fuel, since if you are about moving yourself, fuel is important for distance but also to allow you to use a faster quantum drive to move yourself faster. Ships like the Syulen which can handle the fastest quantum drive and take you across the maximum distance in Stanton should have gotten 5 points, where ships with around 500 or less fuel probably should be 1 point. In the case of the Syulen especially, this is why I own this ship (besides the fact that I love the beauty of it), because I want to keep availability on fast self-transports.

    availability is always something to consider....but honestly, i still just recommend getting the Mustang, and then trying the other ships either by buying them with Auec, or borrowing from another person. and i do *fully* recommend the Mustang over teh Arora, the fact that the Mustang comes with two Gimbled size 2 guns, and has space to mount two gimbled size 1 guns, edges out the arora for me

    I liked the look of the new Syulen, but I absolutely hated to fly it... particularly when taking off and landing
    "availability" of it though i believe as it is rated as a starter package, it will be one of those always available as a starter ship package...
    it has a lot of firepower for a starter though and able to do most entry level cargo hauling jobs, but with 6 SCU of storage it could be on par with the Titan, the Aurora has an underside cargo storage area, but that's for those 1SCU boxes not the .5 scu personal boxes, however with the new storage boxes that come in 1, 2, 4 and 6 SCU it might be worth placing one of those on the grid that way....
    the Cutlass imo has to be the better all rounder for the £/$110 range, the Cutter for the £$48 range....
    the Arrow and Pisces are definitely fun ships to fly, Arrow being one of my favourites for in atmo

  • @Max_Flashheart
    @Max_Flashheart 7 месяцев назад

    Available and being able to rent and fly some of these ships like the Avenger Titan, Arrow etc etc means you can fly it before you buy it. Ingame or for real world cash or store credit.

    In addition to Availability, perhaps consider adding ‘long term usefulness’. IE once you upgrade from an aurora, its use becomes nostalgic, where a c8x could become your snub on a carrack, etc. Similar for the arrow/gladius where they are likely useful long term as they are high end in their primary role.

  • @Elidrys

    Great overall breakdown and charting, very thorough and well thought out and presented.
    I Really strongly think looking at all these charts the Avenger Titan is always the best bang for your buck. Only a small price increase, offers a lot, and looks and feels great. There are good starter options cheaper if you want more basic, but all the ones more expensive don't feel like "starters" anymore, they feel like something more expensive you'd buy to specialize or branch out. As a solo ship early on the Avenger was always my favorite. The Pisces is nice to have as a shuttle anyways for friends and small cargo - also Pisces Med, buy them later in game. The Cutters just seem like a good way to get in game, but a useless ugly space van they keep repackaging - and I never cared for the Aurora. Avenger truly feels like the sweet spot in the middle.

    Availability is important, but I have to disagree with one bit about the 100i... you don't have to deal with parcels bouncing around. It has that little 2-SCU cargo space in the back wall that you can put the parcels in. I also have to disagree with one thing you had on the screen about the Hawk... it does not have a logout option anymore. You can no longer even open the prisoner pod, I suspect until the rework is complete and then it will be modified to hold a prisoner cryo-pod. Those two little nit-picks aside, great video!

    Given the addition of cargo containers you can put stuff in, the syulen should probably get good marks for packages, i'd think it be good at endurance racing to because of it's massive quantum and hydrogen fuel tanks while being fairly quick/agile. I agree with the low marks for combat, but there should be another ammenities category for things like suit locker, weapons rack, toilet kitchenette, and then there should either be a range category or exploration category.... which is how many sites can you see before refueling/i realize that overlaps with endurance racing but i would still think the syulen would get decent marks for racing. I would also think the c1 should be on the list as a direct competitor to the cutty black and freelancer.

Different parts of space have different ships, then you would have to travel to Xi'an space or affiliated stations to purchase those ships or have better prices if you buy them on the planet they are built.

    Mustang Alpha can carry a passenger inside of the package tube; you could say it's a specialized starter with a secure tube to keep the pilot safe from would-be murder hobo hitchhikers. 😁 They need to lay down and crawl into the tube, and they probably need to wear a space suit & helmet, but they fit just fine.

    You can put a passenger into the container under the Mustang alpha. I can't imagine it's comfortable, but it can be done. The thing that lets the Pices down is no bed log. I think unless your landing in another ship generally your better off moving to the Titan, Syulen or Cutter. If your careful and not using Quantum, the base cutter or scout can take a Roc. You do need to be exceedingly careful, but it's one way to learn to do things safely. For fighter bunnies I think the Arrow at just $75 is an amazing buy that you will always get use out of. If your doing cargo the Freelancer is the next best step up. If your doing anything else the Cutlass is far superior. The C1 sor of fits between them but is closer to the Freelancer. Hornets right now are super powerful due to a bug giving them way more power and thrust. I would literally pick my ghost over the gladius and have the bonus of some extra stealth.

    My one nitpick about the availability is that we don't know what the availability of the Syulen will be. One could probably safely assume that it won't be available once its release sale ends. Though, the Hull A should probably be a 3-bar, not 2, as it is always available to buy in the store for upgrades.

    I find racing an odd one to consider for a starter ship, but I suppose it's a real game loop and it can be strangely fun. For my part, I'm too good at crashing - I do every race in a C8R until I'm ready to break out the Merlin.

  • @SolaAesir

    It's really too bad that they haven't seemed to consider the availability of starter racing ships. Yeah, you can do it fairly well in an Arrow, but I'd really like to see them strap the worst/lightest jump drive onto something with the same design principles as the Fury and call it a starter racing ship. It's the one profession in the game where they don't have completely messed up profession progression making dedicated starter ships worthless (looking at you in particular Trading & Medical) and could easily add a starter that would be reasonably competitive on some tracks.

    Anything with starter on it will probably always have availability year round. Pretty sure CIG considers starter ships being, price of a premium game. So roughly $70. Obviously different from when development started of $50. The premium release prices go upwards of $100, so they know some gamers are willing to shell higher prices. Thus CIG has no issue listing ships of higher price as starters, giving us the new Sylen.
    I don't qualify the Sylen as a starter. And the C8R wouldn't be one in my book either. Definitely in the specialty category, which makes the C8R a great value, injuries is pretty advanced. As for the Sylen, this puppy is in an odd spot for sure. I guess luxury cargo starter with missiles? Or quick loading transport. Can stay secure in ship, and have someone loading Sylens outside.
    Noticed you put the Rambler, no scout, but both of these are starter specialties like the c8r. I guess once things are nailed down, we will see where those go for specialties. I hear we are going to get a starter miner soonish.

    Availability is a factor with starter ships, however i would only encourage prospective players to join during certain events when cheaper deals area available. It is also important to note that the Mustang Alpha's cargo bay is bugged and to my knowledge cannot hold boxes at this time. This nullifies it for me personally. The Aurora is the way to go for a pure starter based on cost/benefit ratio. The options for upgrades from there are Avenger Titan -> Nomad -> Cutlass Black in my opinion.

  • @larrypaul2462
    @larrypaul2462 7 месяцев назад

    Nomad, has a remote tractor beam, 24scu of external storage and a lot of internal storage (don't offhand know the exact amount of internal)
    Can also fit a ROC on it (may fly out/may not? 50/50? lol)
    Has decent amount of quantum & hydrogen fuel storage, and scoops to collect hydrogen. Burns alot of hydrogen as a downside.
    Another downside, upgrading the power supply is an absolute must and should be done before you even fly it! Go with the Breton for 52.6k uec.
    Along with, isn't currently available with a starter pack, but worth upgrading your ship to it?
    You be the judge, imho though, great upgrade as it's just a better all around ship at that pricepoint.

    I'd have to disagree with you on the ship pvp fighter meta right now, yes, it was the light fighter not so long ago. But now, a fully upgraded hornet dominates any space (that F8's aren't involved in) they are tanks enough to ward off any light fighter opponent

    The availability of bad starter ship videos is disappointing. Then there is the other kind. _This_ video latches onto the importance of finding the right fit for the player, and that's a good thing. After all the videos floating around claiming the Avenger Titan is the "best starter ship, or "the only ship you'll ever need," I find myself almost _never_ recommending it. 🤔

    I never even thought availability was a factor with starter ships. Or is that only the upgrade?

    Great guide, Just one question. The Syulen is an alien ship but it is included in the starter pack group. So far they usually stay in that group an remain available at all times, do you think it will be removed since you gave it a 1 bar in availability?.

    My personal list going from top down would be cutlass black, avenger titan, base cutty and aurora at the bottom. The idea of availability of ships has always annoyed me but it does promote buying more then what you normally would. When playing the ccu game your limited so you tend to buy more, good for marketing but not great for the consumer.

    With the availability of the C1, shouldn't it be better or stand above the Freelancer?

      Price and footprint. The C1 and Zeus are above my cutoff.

    i highly dislike the limited availability of any ship - especially starter ships and profession starters. If CIG wants to cash out on FOMO this is fine, but they should never limit Starter-ships

    I guess the Pisces C8R doesn't score well in the availability score - love that little ship though. Never tried racing

    Availability ship or not. If i were to recommend a friend any ship here will fit the need. Getting them into the game and letting the game sell itself from there.

    I would start with Aurora and only the aurora if I was just coming to the game today. Back when I started the only availability was to buy ships from the store. Today, most ships have availability in game so no need to buy other ships.
    Cutty gets a check for small spaces but freelancer gets a red X. Cutty is 3m wider, and 2m taller than freelancer. But freelancer is .5m longer so it gets a red x? Should just claim favoritism if you want but ridiculous to call a freelancer not a small space ship when a larger footprint cutty gets to squeeze into the small spaces ship.

    Availability is a hit or miss for me. It kinda falls under supply/demand creating FOMO and new players have enough to consider lol
