Foilcat 34' Boat Review - Big Boat Ride with Incredible Fuel Economy and so Much More!

- Over 15 years ago, Billy Freeman hand-built a offshore ready, fishing catamaran in his garage. That first Freeman boat opened the eyes of Americans on the big advantages catamarans have when it comes to ride, room, efficiency, etc.
Since then, a number of boat companies (Invincible, Sea Hunter to name a couple) that were known for monohull designs have entered the big Cat space.
This video chronicles a review of the Foilcat 34. I met the company owner Todd on the water, asked him about the boat and he was kind enough to take me out for a ride.

Glad you got a hold of him and asked the tough questions on pricing, a boat that size NOT BAD hopefully they make something a little smaller for people like me looking to get their first rig
John, I was going to say you might want to consider this cat versus the one you have on order. Greetings from Gio, Western Long Island Sound.
If only I were a lot younger . That’s a dam nice boat.
You’ve absolutely sold me on this boat. I wish I had the money 😢
I own a cat too. The foil is the future. Super boat. I hope he will make a dual console for the "family first" boater. Aquila has a foil assist, but it is made in China.
Beast of a rig.
Kinda missed the mark on looks and a 12ft beam is gonna make a no go on towing it. Bottom of the hatches weren’t even finished gel coat. Exposed wiring in the console. Needs a lot of refinement before it’s a half million dollar boat. I feel like builders price it there so people don’t think it’s cheaply built because that’s what other similarly sized cats are but when you haven’t even built more than one boat you need to get the boat out there and that’s by giving a good deal on a boat until you have the reputation to back it. I’m close to cocoa and would of loved to take a look at the boat as a possibility even though the looks weren’t all there for me but with that price I’m out. I’d rather stick to upgrading my seavee to a bigger seavee for less.
1.03 at 30 mph on one engine is insanity
All I got is owned a 2013 MERC 150 HP Veradeo on Lund 1775 Pro v at 4400 rpm I was burning 6.2 GPH, so what the secret, I have 900 hrs on this set up, lets say knew it pretty good. My Merc gauges at 1.5 GPH I would be at 1450 rpm and again what the secret with this rig. the math no add up guys.
Mpg not gph
Well that totally sucks even worse then so what's so special about this besides the boat costing alot more than most of the average price boats, why even bother talking about it, just another YTer that doesn't have a clue what the heck they talk about. I had a 502cu in a 27.2 Baja that would tie if not beat those numbers. @@jiggingjerks
A hydro foil is smooth underway not crawling
How much?
I believe it was 38 each
I would love to see how that boat would perform in heavy chop and a choppy following sea. Also what happens if you hit something with that foil, like a log or something? Will you break the foil off? If so do you sink or just replace the foil? How many plastic bags get stuck on the foil and does it screw things up?
I know Aquila's foil on their 36 is designed to break away cleanly without damaging the hull. Honestly though I think you're just better off getting a smaller catamaran if you're really after fuel economy. A 26 worldcat CC will get 3 mpg with no foil and can handle anything waves you'd really want to be out on the water in.
Good job with showing the numbers. He seems to be a nice guy putting out a good product. The boat has a very good layout that will accommodate both sides of the fence.
As a Cat owner myself, that looks like a really nice rig & those gas burn numbers are hard to believe for a boat that size! Thanks for the video John! 👍👍 We won't talk about price however.....
They have around 300k just into materials is my guess into that boat and that's not even labor included.
Going from smiles per gallon back to registering miles per gallon! WIN WIN IN MY BOOK👍👍👍
The SeaFox 368 has a invoice price of $421k.... bet you didn't see that coming
I know the GoPro has it's limits but being a active boater I can see clearly the washing machine water which is what I see coming out of the CT River into LI Sound and it can be rough, but this boat, Holy Crap, it was walking thru that slop like nothing. Super, super impressive.
i'm sorry 585 with only two engines is silly , probably why this boats not in production
I didn’t realize there were that many millionaires out there, I guess I missed the BOAT ! Great video. Thanks.
Hit one foil on anything and it costs $2000 to fix
Cool boat
I'd like to see it handle high seas
Quite the boat!.. if I find myself with 600k burning a hole in my pocket I’ll definitely get one.. for now gotta settle for a used glacier bay w/ twin 150s…. And that’s good too!😊
kids gonna die from over heat in that cabin?
Interesting combination of cat hull, with steps, and this foil technology, which appears to deliver great results.
Curious how he got into the boat building biz. Was he with another builder previously. Beautiful and impressive boat. Thanks for bringing it to us.
get a custom built one with inboard 300hp diesels and hydrogets . that would be a long range beast
Take her offshore we fish Tuna so I’d love to see the capabilities in 6 ft seas $200 a foot avg
I’m local to where the boat is manufactured. Incredible boat. Go to the factory and see the quality of the build.. if I could swing it I would 100% own this boat over the one of the other manufacturers by far…
I love the boat. I wish it was at a better price point. I heard what you said about the monohul boats. You are spot on but take Aquila 38 sport it's the same thing but with two cabins and two bathrooms for maybe 100k more...idk but I do like that nice cross between a center console and cat. Nice work on the boat itself.
This is several tiers higher than an Aquila.
she looks sweet... might drop by foilcat in the future. thanks man....
Wow cool boat. I own 2 boats a 29’ and 16’ and I could never afford to buy them now. If I could afford an offshore boat for serious bottom fishing I’d buy this Cat
okay I guess you're going to call Dave East and tell him it's all over ! yeah I can imagine the kind of aluminum boat you could have built for that kind of price I could live on it.
Hahaha. Still sticking with Dave
If only I got $600k laying around I’d grab me one of these, very impressive.
Beautiful boat! As a lover of the catamaran design and performance. I’d love to see it run on a incredibly rough day. Thanks John and Todd!
I think the downside is you can’t overpower them and have a 75mph boat, right?
😍😍😍
Wow! 🤩
What a beautiful boat!
Love the room! So spacious and well laid out!
Nice ride and fuel efficiency for a boat this size. Very impressive.
Nice review John.
I’m going to play Lotto tonight. I want one of these!
Beautiful boat. Would be great to fish /crusie
Mr. Skinner. I’m buying that boat. I just told the gentleman he’s lucky he put you on board that boat because you are well respected in my book. I love this boat I will buy one.
Now, if I can just find 585k in my couch cushions, I can have one.
No beaching?
Not sure if that's possible with a foil
Impressive build quality from what I can see. Well done!
lol incredible fuel economy...2023
And that’s a very nice price for that boat.
John: Thank you for posting this video. It is an awesome boat and I hope Todd will do well with it.
WHATS THE COST
In the 500s
Nice boat bro thanks for the video
Awesome. Imagine how good it could be with Sharrow props??
I love your video excellent running boats Were in Galilee so a trip to the canyon looks comfortable on her
Thank you Jeff!
Sick boat
Now the question is how much does it cost?
Wonder if they would make this but in a 24 - 26 ?
I doubt it. This was their one model last year when I reviewed it. They would really need to build a different mold for that.
two words: sea weed
Incredible!!
Very impressive John! Great review.
Wonderful video. Interesting to see what you might get for that kind of money. How about a video on a big lobster boat?
I am planning on hitting the Newport boat show in September. I’m hoping they have those style boats there.
Great police boat
Thanks🙌. Al I can say is WOW!
WOW 😯 what ride captain
Nice design and engineering
Does foilcat have any realionship with insetta they have a 36ft foilcat as well?
I asked and no but similar technology
Very Nice Boat!!
Cats best ride
Amazing boat
I want it!!
I ❤ this boat 🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸 what is the price?
585
When does your cat show up?
It’s out of mold and engines ordered. Hopefully by end of year
Hammercat 35 does the same, and is a nicer boat overall, in my opinion of course
I met the owner at one of the Florida boat shows two years ago and agree with you that it’s a beautiful boat. Lots of nice options in this style and size….
Those of you guys interested in cats should check out scaredy cat boatworks they have a 23 thats gonna be at fibs in 7 weeks and a 36 thats gonna be ready shortly after that is capable of doing triple digits if wanted with triple 300s. which is insane the 23 bay boat can run triple digits with a single 350
Run triple digits?
@@hautehussey yes as in 100mph+ if wanted
@@hautehussey sorry i just saw the mistake but i meant to say all boats are capable of triple digits
Where can I find more info about scaredy cat boats?
@@sailrt it’s not worth finding out about any of these boat manufacturers because they only make one or two a year and they’re sold out too far in advance, or are ridiculously overpriced (or both!)!
A lot of these boats are great but I don’t think we need a ton of people reviewing a boat when the companies only can put out one a year, and they’re presold!
And they’re all way too much money now anyway!
Does the foil retract?
I don’t believe so
It’s between the hulls.
