    The real deal: measured with up to 18 accelerometers attached on the pilot a Rafnar hull experienced 2 to 5.5 times less G forces compared to standard issue same length US Coast Guard RIB personnel. At worst 8G on the normal RIB, about 3G on Rafnar at most. That is a big difference in mission safety and comfort.

    That headliner will make it all of 1 season in a hot climate. New company, they’ll learn. That material is not feasible for life on the water, and the application method isn’t either, a spray adhesive on the ceiling of a boat that’s going to be in direct sunlight for the boats entire life. Not a chance.

    • @timlong1462
      @timlong1462 7 месяцев назад +3

      Not that I'd want suede in my boat, but I'd disagree a bit on your statement. Car companies have been making suede/alcantara dashes and steering wheels for years. If those hold up in phoenix then there is a way to make it work. No idea how they've secured it in this application but it's possible they did the research.

    • @ChrisDavis333
      @ChrisDavis333 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@timlong1462 I disagree entirely. What they’ve done on this boat is more akin to taking that alcantara and applying it directly to the bare metal of the roof of a car. If you’ve ever worked on cars or removed a headliner, there’s 1 an air gap, and 2 the premium material is applied to a separate material usually a combination of plastic and foam, so the premium material is several layers removed from the brunt of the solar energy. In a car it’s bare metal>air gap>headliner>premium material. That’s not what this is and frankly it’s not even close, it will fail and upon further inspection; it appears to already be having uniformity issues. What you’re saying with a steering wheel is not the same, that’s no different than putting a suede shoe in a hot car and leaving it, its not going to ruin it completely but it will age quicker than not obviously. There’s no heat source underneath the alcantara, it’s stitched onto a steering wheel, basically it’s an inanimate object, it might as well be a handbag that’s left permanently in the back seat of a car, that argument is more about the heat resistance and overall durability of the material itself, rather than the method in which it was applied. Considering on this boat they put the material on the roof and the side pillars, we should consider the roof and the side pillars of a car and the methods which are used, not a steering wheel or a shift nob or a shoe; and universally across the board it’s going to be several layers removed from the direct heat source, whether it’s alcantara or cheap generic fabric roof liner. What they have done is used a spray adhesive or maybe a roll on application and then attached the suede material directly to the part of the boat which will experience the most thermal energy of any part of the boat, it’s a direct connection, no buffer, no air gap, no layers in between, it will fail and from the looks of it it’s already started to.
