the Leo character may actually have been the most complex.. him being the older sibling that was able to function fine before his sister was born but then pushed into an inferior role because his younger sibling can hear... his comment that 'the family was fine and could function before you were born' to Ruby was very deep.
That was my favorite signing scene, when Leo was telling Ruby that on the beach. The way he signs is so enunciated, I really felt his emotion with his signing style.
@@brennahasselmann8075 totally agree.. i think that one scene gave me an epiphany and made me realize HIS struggles and conflicts, whereas I was only focused on Ruby up to that point...
I think he just felt like, he is a brother but can't do anything for his sister. He's happy when Ruby told her dream, and he just want to protect his sister's dream. When he knew he couldn't, he became mad and angry.
@@impasceticfinalp2923 i love your point.
Yes youre right... thiere's something weird there.
When father feels her daughter singing on the back of the truck, that part made me cry
True! I ugly faced cried😭😭 I couldn't stop crying the rest of the movie and I'm crying now just thinking about it!! Best scene in any of the movies I've watched in years. He deserves that Oscar, hope he gets it.
Me too!
Yeah absolutely!
That Frank feels the throat of her daughter Ruby singing reminds me of Helen Keller writing to the New York Symphony Orchestra to express her joy at "listening" to Beethoven's 9th Symphony by putting her hand on the receiver of the radio and feeling the vibrations.
He did it! That famous truck scene goes into the Oscar history book!!!
The fact that Emilia Jones didn't get nominated for an Oscar is nothing short of tragic. She was simply amazing.
The fact that it took since 1986 for a disabled actor to win an Oscar or be a featured character in a movie is more tragic.
The Oscar is a scam, just like the Grammy or the Ballon d'Or.
@@EnriqueMannucci NOW, yes, those awards could be considered scams.
Couldn't agree with you more!
Yeahhu she has beautiful voice... learn how to sign language dan fishing. And of course. Amazing performance
The waterworks started for me when Frank asks Ruby to sing the song for him. Up until that point, I had seen the song as a romantic song, but as soon as he made that request, the song became immensily more personal and the meaning shifted completely to a father-daughter relationship. And when he puts his hands on her throat to feel the vibration of her vocal cords, they were finally connected through music, and he finally understood and appreciated that side of her. It was a gorgeous scene.
Really good movie. The frustration Leo showed at Ruby saying "Let them figure out how to deal with deaf people", that made me cry.
Made me realise how we really should make an effort to accommodate people with disability in our lives.
Also went Leo went for a beer and the fishermen ignored him 😭
I understand ruby though. I’m latina and I know so many people who don’t learn English and use their kids as translators. They’re used as a crutch.
@@Nazaba09
The difference is the Latino parents can learn English if they want to. There is no real barrier there beyond their unwillingness to learn at least the basics of another language from the host country.
The deaf however cannot hear a fog horn or someone yelling behind their backs at least not without the aid of already existing but hardly implemented at all technology which I find disgraceful. We have the technology nowadays to break and tear down the wall between the non hearing and the hearing once and for all.
For example. The fishing boat and the stupid requirement of a hearing person as an intermediary could be easily solved with an audio recognition gadget no bigger than a wristwatch which would vibrate in different ways to tell the wearer of someone yelling or a horn being sound etc.
An upgrade to tools like Google Translate that would also translate sign language into text and speech.
Augmented reality goggles that would allow the wearer to attend a comedian stand in. Without the need of interpreter as the Goggles would conversely translate speech into an avatar that shows it as sign language in real time.
As I said all these technologies currently exist as we speak but they have virtually not been implemented to tear down this barrier at all.
That needs to change ASAP.
@@RoyCyberPunk deaf people can get cochlear implants but they’re so proud of their ‘culture’, they refuse.
@@Nazaba09
Dude even if a deaf person gets such a thing is no guarantee that they will be able to hear. The brain is not going to understand the signal its receiving if it never used it to begin with. Humans are not stereos where you can just hookup a new gizmo and get going.
My husband is a Coda. I’ve been in the family for over 30 years. The deaf community is very special. My husbands first language is ASL and my children have been raised with deaf grandparents. We are very proud to be part of the deaf community.
Im a coda (French) like your husband is and I agree with you. The deaf community is very special. Its a very special kind of country of their own. I feel very proud to be a “hearing deaf” as I often explain.
My husband is a coda to ( Swedish sign language) we have been married for 25 years now. I feel exactly as you, it’s was no brainer for me to learn sign language to be able to communicate with them, my teenage son is not fluent, but have no problems talking to his grandparents. I really loved this movie!
Incredible cinematography at that moment of complete silence during the concert. Films like this don’t come along that often. Well done all, you smashed it!
It is an absolute classic and it has just been out
Very well said
that scene was touching and incredibly thought provoking
I hate that part
because I can fully hear my ugly sobs for a few minutes 😂
I cried like a kid in this scene 😭😭😭😭
This was the best movie I've seen in years. That moment during her audition when she starts to sign the music she is singing................GOOSEBUMPS
I actually thought Rudy was going to sign at the school concert so I was very happen when she did at the audition.
@@danacoletti3382 I literally had several heart attacks there
@@danacoletti3382 yeah me to..im just waiting for the sign language at the school stage but they give us tht moment at the final arc which is a lot better...GOOOSEBUMPS
The best scene is the one with Troy and the daughter sitting on the bed of the truck and he was touching her neck to feel the vibrations of her singing. That was the most touching scene.
That part got me😭what was also so cool in that same line, I learned & understood the high volume when dad was listening to rap music. Great writing. What a beautiful lesson.
Amazing movie. Deserves an oscar for best performances by all actors, for director, for editing, sound design, ....
I completely agree. This is the most beautiful film. Amazing talent, music, cinematography. I will recommend this film to everybody i know.
Troy Kotsur, who plays as "dad" got nominated to oscar as supporting actor and CODA got nominated to oscar as best picture ;ooo
@@oldmandomi712 I hope they win
THEY WON
@@fabianal.3033 Yes. I was so happy when I heard it.
Troy Kotsur is so funny 😆 he is so natural to make people laugh.
So many emotions watching this film. I remember finishing it and felt so grateful to see it, but I was a total mess after watching. I cried too many times in this film. I really commend Emilia Jones for learning ASL, she really worked so hard on it. Imagine she had to learn everyone's lines in ASL, not just her own. I'm so happy she was casted as Ruby, because she really did so well. All in all, the film is just sooo beautiful. This film deserves more views to be honest. Not many people know about it.
Emilia truly deserves all the praise and awards for this movie I can't even imagine how hard it is to learn all those lines both in dialogue and sign language the whole team and cast deserve it was an amazing experience I watch it 2x now and got emotional in both
And learning music too.
IIRC, she didn't just learn the lines in ASL - she learned ASL so she could communicate off-screen.
As for the music - her father is the Welsh singer Aled Jones.
I cried my eyes out 4 times, but I nearly wet my pants too - it was SO funny at times, so emotional at others. Great story, great authentic acting, great movie!
It was mind blowing!!!
I only cried--many times--at when Ruby began signing at the audition, I sobbed out loud.
This movie is tryna drain both my eyes and bladder at the same time 😭😂😭😂
I love this movie! I'm glad to hear that Marlee Matlin had trouble saying the lines where the mother is dismissive of her daughter wanting to be a singer, just because the mother was deaf. It was hard to hear those lines too, but it was part of the story arc.
Yes, my heart swelled with even more love for her at that part of the interview
troy better win that oscar. or i.ll steal it for him. he made me cry and laugh at the same time. hope he wins that oscar.
He's now on the hottest track to win it. Everyone is watching very closely, especially SAG barometer (since some of the voters are from the Oscar voting members)
He did😭❤️
He won that Oscar!
The first 40 seconds where they're hugging each other is so beautiful! Obviously Daniel was saying goodbye but you can see how much they all genuinely care about each other. Our world needs so many more displays of genuine love for our fellow humans.
Best deaf cast ensemble ever in our film history!!!!! We may never get anything like it again.
I watched that on another video where they had captions and Troy said to Daniel "You'll be fine !" * thumps his chest * "We'll work together again." because they were living together and Daniel is from a small town, was raised by two mothers, and doesn't know many deaf people, so to have that father figure was important to him.
Being a CODA and having a movie made to show others a perspective into our lives is amazing!
As a CODA this movie was so relatable... it amazing just to see Deaf actors and a movie about Deaf people as it is, but I never thought I would see a movie about people like me. 😭 Everyone did a fantastic job and I love it so much. Deserving of all the awards!! CONGRATULATIONS!! 🙌🤟🥲🤟
oh my troy kotsur is just a veeery fun dad you want to have lmao, I really love his energy and personality, he's a very nice human-being and a spectacular actor! I reallyyy hope he gets an oscar this year, amen to that
I discovered this movie this morning and I joined Apple TV+ just so that I can watch it. No other movie has made me cry like this one did. As someone who wants to make a short film series about stigma, inclusion and dreams, I believe that this film will inspire ideas for what I will create.
Thank you for making such a genuine and powerful movie. It's definitely one of my new favorites.
I was so surprised to hear Emilia Jones' British accent holy cower American accent is flawless
Emilia Jones did an amazing job and so very talented. This was amazing movie with a powerful message. Her audition scene and performing ASL while singing was a touching moment
You really deserved a nomination Emilia. Hands down. You were completely the glue. Incredible performance
It's a beautiful movie. Just watch it for the performance alone.
Beautiful moments like when Ruby and Miles sing together in school and all of a sudden everything goes quiet from Ribuy's parents' perspective or when Ruby's Dad asks her to explain about the song and sing again.. those expressions and emotions!
Leo's frustration.. wow, commendable!
Watched this movie last night. It was incredible. Brilliant writing and the cast was amazing. Definitely deserved the best movie Oscar. It was funny, made me cry at times and gave me a perspective on what it would be like to be deaf. Hands down the best movie I've seen in quite some time!
SUCH A GOOD MOVIE i cried so much when she started singing Both sides now. Oh my.
A movie like this comes along once a year, maybe less…amazing story, so unique and touching
Best movie of this shitty year and Emilia deserves Oscar!
日本では映画館で公開されました!この素晴らしい作品を最大限の魅力を感じれる環境で観れて幸せでした🥰
Emilia Jones is a real talent. And she is much more beautiful and enchanting without wearing makeup
I just watched this movie yesterday and it really moved me, I cried so much. It really opened my eyes more, it's such an important movie that everyone should watch. I wish I knew sign language, it's so beautiful and really fascinates me and I always wished it was a school subject. Congratulations for the awards, so well deserved.
I cried when Ruby sang the song to her dad on the truck. That song transitioned from a love song between a boy and girl to love song between child and parent.
One of the most powerful, beautiful films I've ever seen in its intimate portrait of family and in the profound exercise of empathy CODA creates.
i cried so HARD in this movie,, thanks from the bottom of my heart.. i needed those tears..
Didn't expect anything watching this movie, I don't dig drama, but then...it hit me! I wasn't prepared . It gave me new llife perspective in so many ways. Now its on top of my favorite movies I've watched in my entire life!
I have now watched this movie five times. It is a great story, well acted and directed.
Troy's Oscar win is well deserved, and I love watching him in interviews. He's so expressive.
One of the best drama movies I have ever watched.
And it’s a remake
Saw this movie yesterday and I loved it. I hope they win every award that this movie is nominated for.
I really love this movie. I cried a lot while watching this ㅜ.ㅜ want to see this movie again...
A rollercoaster of emotions while watching this...amazing film and casts ❤
THIS adaptation of La Famille Bélier for the American English and ASL audience was done SO. BEAUTIFULLY! I'm so proud we have it! 🇺🇸🤟❤️
the cast are all amazing..i really cried upon watching this movie they do it with heart very authentic,it reminds me the value of Family.
I love this family more than ever. The struggle of each member is really real. I never cried while watching really believe me I didn’t 😊
How is it possible that Emelia wasn't nominated for an Oscar???????
Common perspective out there across the board
She practiced singing for few months and that's how she sings! She's really got the talent .
I watched 2 times today and still want to watch again and again
i love ruby
i love her family
i feel all the emotion
i feel all the love this film give
i feel it all
no need to doubt
best movie ever
God
I love this movie
It has everything i love
❤
So glad I watched this incredible movie--twice.
I would love to see this movie. I so glad there was a movie made like this. I love the Deaf actors chosen for this movie. I myself am fluent in ASL. I have friends and family who are Deaf. ASL is such a beautiful language. I love ASL and Deaf people
If I could take away only one memorable quotation from the movie, it would be this: "Being deaf is not a handicap; it's an identity." I've known a few deaf people whose greatest frustration was when hearing people treated them as if they were stupid. Truly, it's society that handicaps people.
I loved the film, I cried several times. Congratulations, greetings from Spain (Barcelona).
This movie and these actors and actresses should have won every category they were nominated for. That was an amazing movie on many levels!
Just watched the movie today, loved it great performances by everyone, Emilia has a great future in acting!
She’s been acting professionally since she was a child-an enormous talent 👍🏻
You can tell this movie meant so much to actor Daniel,
He was worried on whether he gets more acting assignments or not. It was his last daynat the film. Troy told him not to worry! (I'm deaf, I read Troys comment in ASL to Daniel).
The ending made me cry also happy at the same time. great movie to watch.
Troy seems like such a hilarious and kind person I love him and the entire cast so much. I've watched this film probably... 6 times? In my top 3 for sure. I've been learning ASL because of it!! The double meaning of CODA is also so beautiful, as a musician
I just finished watching this movie and its amazing. When you think that its all about the love story but the deeper the movie the deeper you understand that it is about the broad family
I know this discussion is a couple of years old but I take every opportunity to tell people how much I LOVE this movie and how good it is. I also wanted to thank all those who made this movie for making one of the best movies ever. Thanks guys.
Saw this movie today and It's a good movie! glad I watched it!
all the characters did their job" splendidly! and Emilia esp for doing the sign language and sang at the same time! loved the song too!
We ALL should be CODA’S.
Today is my birthday and the best present for me is to donate to a cause like this.
Love is love.
Always love your family, sisters, friends, and always de empathic to others.❤
So fantastic! My gosh so many amazing moments from this film.
I loved the movie so much, it made me laugh and cry and smile alot ♥️
( it's cool that this interview makes me feel that their personality is similar to the characters they acted , I loved all of them ) it's one of my 2021 favourite movies , it has such authentic and raw feelings to it , really well done 🥰
I loved this movie so much and everyone was great in it! I wish there was more like this movie ❤️
Troy’s facial expressions are everything !! ❤️
This was an incredible film. I love sign language. Some thing I didn’t realize, is that the lady playing Ruby sounds like she’s perhaps British. It’s so interesting, because in the film you would think that she’s a real life coda. She obviously played the part really well. Because I thought she had grown up with it. And to learn that she was British was also more interesting because, the two sign languages are very different.
American sign language, and British sign language have nothing in common. In fact, British sign language has a two-handed fingerspelling alphabet. When in American sign language we have a one-handed alphabet. I am not deaf, just have a passion for the language.
Emily (Ruby) didn’t know any sign before getting this role. So it’s impressive that she learned her lines and was able to perform them so quickly.
I’m learning Dutch sign language now (started in February) and I would say that I pick it up fairly quickly, but I am nowhere near as quick as Ruby in the movie.
@@lieke3043 Emilia not only learnt ASL to the brilliant degree that she declined having an interpreter during the filming, but she also learnt to sing beautifully, speak with an American accent (she is British with a Welsh father and English mother) plus she learnt how to fish and handle the fishing trawler.
This movie rescued me. Sorry I won’t go into details but I wanted to say thank you!
I am obsessed with this movie, what an amazing film!!!!!. I cried so much!
Me. I keep watching certain scenes multiple times. Especially, the scene where she sings to her father.
To be honest, I watched the movie after it got Oscar ♥️
This kind of movies with social messages are very needed to cure the Authentic problems in society......
Every time I come across a content from CODA, I have no choice but to cry lol
I almost cried watching the film yesterday!!!!!!!!!!
An amazing movie, great movie to find myself humming Both Sides incessantly ,thanks for the lovely ear worm.
man this is a good movie. tear up just watching this
Beautiful movie I love ❤️ everything about this movie, story actors and 👩🏻🎤 singer
Awesome job. I am so happy & proud all of you doing amazing . Congratulations
Thank you to all...& I mean all involved....This was a Beautiful story/movie with a depth seldom seen. A multi-layered & stunning kaleidoscope of insights into both worlds, that touches the soul. It resonates on levels all should/can appreciate. A Heart Felt Thank You. xx
I watched this movie yesterday and now it's one of my top 3 movies.
I didn't know the term 'coda' and how lonely ppl with hearing disorder feel before watching this movie.
but at the same time this movie characters are so powerful that I was so encouragd. I really love them.
This movie is so touching too. I don't remember how many times I cried watching this movie. I will absolutely go see this movie again.
Thank you for making this amazing movie. From Japan, with love :)
Here after this Legendary film won the OSCARS 2022. Hands down the best movie
It is really good film.i so touched watch this film.love between the family is really true love.
It’s a great movie .I was amazed at getting to know the fact Emilia is 19 years old as well as I am.If I didn’t watch the movie, I will not know her.But now I love her.I cheer her up from Japan.
When dad said “go” 😭😭😭😭
10 octubre 2021...thanks emilia,,marlee... daniel.durant...troy..eugenio...for C O D A is beautiful...wonderful ...loved film...i saw the film 5 times...i can't speak english so good...sorry...thanks for CODA
I first saw Emilia Jones as Rosamund Pike's daughter in What We Did In Our Holiday (good movie, recommend checking it out) and she was 12 years old in that movie and i'm happy to see her growing up doing more work in acting and she was just phenomenal in this movie, she's so talented, probably gonna be Hollywood's next superstar. I can't wait to see what else she does in the future
Did you see her new look with a new haircut yesterday? Wow! Very adult-like!!! So beautiful
Best this year so far
Emilia’s American accent was wonderful.
THE STAR OF THE 2022 OSCARS....BRAVO TO ALL
god damn what a movie, so beautiful and very very touching.
It's fun watching Siân Heder finger spell "condescending" around 12:52 and then learn how to sign it. She misspells a little, but she communicates effectively.
an amazing movie ..
loved it
Coda movie inspire me so much to learn sign language, that takes it to a level far above other films. Love from Chile
The cast and crew of CODA are so close. That’s rare right there.
Thats why SAG voted this cast as the best cast ever in 2021! Amazing cast ever!
Troy is so funny 😂
Wow thats amazing i never expected that they are really deaf.
I am a different man now that I've watched this incredible and exquisite piece of heart refreshing art
My favorite scene is where father touches his daughters neck trying to feel her diaphragm while singing Great Work !! Nicely Done !! Bravo 👍👍👌👌
... Es una pelicula que te coloca y te abraza en y desde lo simbólico , sin carecer de ningún pero ningún significante y te ubica en un lugar del que no te queres ir...
Adorable cast !!!!
Whomever the person that put a thumbs down on here... I feel sorry for you... ✌️
I'm hard of hearing and I'll lose my hearing eventually and when I saw this movie I was crying because I was like will this be me will this be the kind of things that can happen to me since I won't be able to hear people anymore?? I'm starting to learn sign language and I can start to read lips but is hard the trouble that people with disability have to go through every day ,I love this movie
This was a very good movie.
