C0d4 (2021) Movie facts: 1.The actors who played the Ruby family were completely deaf in real life. 2.Troy Katsur (Frank/Ruby Father), is the first deaf man to win an Oscar. 3.Emilia Jones (Ruby), studied singing and sign language for 9 months.
There was a show years ago, "World's Strictest Parents", and one of the teens who went to live with the Strict Parents had a deaf family. One thing he said that always stuck with me... "The worst thing you can do to a deaf person is ignore them, not look at them, and keep moving. That's how I hurt my parents the most when I'm mad. I just ignore them."
Oh my god I remember him! That show was full of annoying bratty teenagers but that guy was really spiteful and malicious. Wonder how miserable he is now.
Mr. B's reaction when Ruby is having to attend family business is inexcusable. She's not undetermined, she's trying to balance adult responsibility as a child.
@@Hannnahh88 I actually agree- but for argument's sake I'd like to watch the movie to see why it turns out that she doesn't tell him theup ò consistently late.
I completely understand how she feels, I grew up in a deaf family and being the only one who could hear i do understand how you give up a part of yourself to be there and to help your own family, the responsibility is very hard and it is a struggle but I wouldn't trade it or them for the world.
So beautiful that I cried! The actress has done such a marvellous role so spontaneously.... Wonderful blend of feelings, dreams, responsibility of a young girl.... Family's a blessing inspite of all the flaws 🥰
my brother is deaf... he had a classmate the parents deaf 2 siblings deaf and the youngest 10years old has no disability...one day the father got heart attack but no one could speak and ask for help...thought no one will understand them...the 10year old then arrived home from school and called out the neighbors but too late already he was DOA (6hours dead) and the story reached media's attention... and we heard it too via TV news
that is so sad :( Here, if you have a landline and dial emergency, you just have to bang the table/a surface a few times and they WILL send emergency personel to your place! ASAP! This is for people living alone who end up choking or something!
To any young person who has just graduated and is scared of leaving your family because something might happen... go. Go because yes something will happen, but you can come home at that time. Go because one day you will be in your mid 30s wishing you had if you don't. Go because you want to and you need to do the things you want to do. Just go and try it.
I'm in my 30s and although I am very happy with the life that I have now, I always wonder if I should've left my family after I graduated high school. Sometimes your family doesn't understand that what they want for you can hold you back and sometimes not putting your own needs above your families can back fire and keep you stuck building on something that was never your responsibility to maintain. I don't have any regrets but there's always that what if
Leo is right about the crew. Ruby can't be her parents' Asl interpreter rest of her life. My brother is a CODA too. He is also a CODF (Child Of Deaf Family). The only hearing one in the family. Me and my Twin sister Xylinda can speak. Thanks to speech therapy! D/deaf people living in a Hearing world that they adapt to. Not easy but we will manage. I wish the communication and everything to be accessible!
I knew of the hype of this movie from the Oscars and didn't realize this was the Hollywood version of La Famille Belier. Almost every detail was taken from the French version. This movie at least hired actual deaf actors, which is nice, but I feel like Louane played the daughter better. You could just feel the burden from her, and the audition song scene in the French version is such a classic. Basically everyone knew the song "Je vole" after that film.
OMG That’s why her audition scene seemed so familiar to me. I didn’t watch the French one but did see the clip with Louane auditioning and signing as she sung.
I love la famille belier...louanes' je vole really touches me for some reason. The lyrics hits. I was bawling. I only wish someday I'd have the courage to say those words to my parents
I don't understand why she would promise something she couldn't do to her teacher instead of explaining her responsibilities to her family and perhaps scheduling her lesson at another time on the weekend?
One moment, can't deaf people write?!!! wtf, force her to help with the interview? Teacher- you are not working hard enough- ignoring she is stuck to try to help her family.. nice people all around.
Some people who are Deaf and use sign language struggle with written English because the syntax of BSL/ASL works differently to written English (the tenses and word order are different). So, Ruby's parents might have been afraid that the interviewer might not have understood them if they wrote things down. Also, depending on your writing speed, it could be difficult to keep up with questions being asked- especially if your trying to lipread said questions. Which is not an exact science (B and P use the same mouth shape,. foe instance) Forcing Ruby to attend their interview was not the most enlightened move ever, but her parents were worried they'd lose their livelihood. Taking Ruby along was the only way to be sure they'd be understood.
@@cubbymumma3941 I was gonna say the same thing only you put it better in words.. I hv a deaf friend and I know how limited is his vocab, grammar structure and syntax. When I learned the ASL is also slightly different from one country to another, that would be almost speaking in another language
