CODA had only three Academy Award nominations and won all of them. The film won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor just like what Green Book did in 2019(won Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor). It is noteworthy that CODA is adapted from the French film La Famille Bélier(The Bélier Family) and actually the original French film only won one César Award(César Award for Most Promising Actress) in France in 2015. It is interesting that Apple won the Oscar for Best Picture ahead of Netflix. This win was absolutely a victory for Tim Cook/Apple and also a victory for the French production team.
Oscars 2022 taught CODA and Will Smith an important lesson: sometimes losing an Oscar can be much more advantageous than winning. Calm down, I'll explain. - In the case of CODA, being among the nominees was already a great victory. But Sian Heder's film will age badly over time, suffering the same curse as other award-winning films such as: A Beautiful Mind, Crash and Green Book. - While Smith... well... if he had lost Oscar at least he would have avoided the damage he did to the rest of the ceremony.

Like when Rocky won over Taxi Driver or Network. It’s like a journey and we get to go with them.
I feel so honored to live in a time where this type of recognition is finally being given. The whole crew and cast showed dedication, strength, and angelic emotions. This is a deserved win over all three of its categories it was nominated AND won for. To Siân, Troy, and everyone involved… BRAVO!!
Drive My Car, Dune, Licorice Pizza, West Side Story, and The Power of the Dog all outsold. Like, CODA's a solid movie, but something about it winning Best Picture just isn't right. But who am I to say, the Academy makes decisions I hate or dislike every year and yet I watch the Oscars anyway so maybe I should stop complaining.

The Preferencial ballot is a real factor and there’s no better example than this. I bet that PotD, would’ve won if it were decided by traditional voting. Power of the Dog literally won everywhere it could, there was no apparent competition until one week before, when CODA took PGA (another award decided by preferencial ballot). PotD, was probably the majority’s #1, but #9 or #10 for the rest, (at least for what I’ve seen) while CODA was #1 for many, and #3, #4, #5 or #6 for the rest. And that’s how you win an Oscar since 2009.

CODA became the first film distributed by a streaming service (Apple TV+), the first Sundance Film Festival premiere, and the first film featuring predominantly deaf actors in leading roles to win Best Picture. It is also the first Best Picture winner with three or less nominations since Grand Hotel, the first film to win without having been nominated for Best Director and Best Film Editing since Grand Hotel, the first film to win after skipping all fall film festivals since The Departed, and the first film to win as a remake of a non-English language film since The Departed. CODA is the first film produced and/or distributed by a streaming service, the first Sundance film, and the first film featuring predominantly deaf actors in leading roles to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. CODA is the sixth film and the first since Green Book to win Best Picture without a director nomination, and the Best Picture winner with the fewest nominations since Grand Hotel.

I found out that CODA is an American version of the French film La Famille Bélier. The movies are almost identical, except for their family businesses. One is a fishing family (CODA) and one is a farm (Bélier).
Plus in the french version the actors weren't deaf while in this version they are.

Both CODA & that French film was adapted from an Indian (Hindi) film Khamoshi :) It was a great movie
When I watched CODA I even forgot i was even watching a movie...Great movie
Great moment with Ladu Gaga and Liza Minnelli, the best thing of the video!
This is way better than Crash and Green Book for Best Picture win anyways
I think it will be like king speech or the artist
Green book and crash are white saviour movies
Coda only taught that usa can just copy foreign movies and that's it, letting the original film be ignored and forgotten
@@abrahamlupis9354 Incase if you have been sleeping under ten thousand rocks, La Famille Belier was highly criticzed by the French deaf community because it didn't have deaf actors to play deaf characters to the point they got the sign language wrong. CODA exists to fix that and made it better by having actual deaf actors to play deaf characters. The community praised the movie more positively than they did with the original.

Like when Rocky won over Taxi Driver or Network. @@abrahamlupis9354did you read everything? Bc its clear that the main problem is that they made a poor job representing deaf people. They dont need to be deaf, but they obviously need to know sign language perfectly. Plus, its important to have deaf actors on deaf roles because they dont have the same opportuiny than others, so if you have a story with deaf character, this is the perfect situation to hire deaf actors.

Sad but true.

CODA has great producing.
