This was very helpful, as we are new Class A owners, and had nothing to compare with concerning driving experience. Now, we know, this is normal. Thanks! I am now a subscriber!
Thank you for the sub and glad we could help! If you're looking to improve the ride of your motorhome we did a video on adding Safe-T-Plus to help with steering and adding a hood liner to quiet the engine noise. Makes a huge difference!

Wow, what a fantastic real world experience! Thank you for the video!
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
We love you guys 😊Thanks and happy holidays ❤❤
Thank you so much ! 😊❤️
So diesel is what I will be buying, glad to see what it’s like in the gas. Be safe and have fun❤
Thank you! Huge difference between diesel and gas!
Thank you, you have help me on what to buy
Our pleasure!
You definitely have one of the best channels out there! 👍
Wow, thanks! Appreciate it!
Our A class does the same thing. It sounds like yours going up the hills I want a diesel so bad, but we could not afford the fuel at this time. Gas prices were high too, but they are trickling down. We plan on doing more camping next year. This was a great video. thank you all for sharing. Safe travels. (p.s I love the color of your Jeep.
The gas price trickling down is temporary. They can't help but go up when they're putting a stop to everything energy
@Ray Byrd Thank you, Ray! 😊 A lot of folks don't realize how loud it gets in a Class A gas motorhome. You are right about diesel prices and we don't see them going down anytime soon. Thanks for watching and safe travels!
Everything is going up in price!
I find out how crazy driving a gas motorhome can get when I bought ours, but I, to make it drive better over the bump and down the road I install Koni's shocks, front and rear, Safe-T-Plus stabilizer, and a rear Trac-Bar and when we get it back from the dealer because it's having warranty done to but when we get it back I will be install Sumo Springs front and rear. Awesome video and keep them coming I love watching you guys' videos, we have said that next time about getting a Super C diesel, but we will see about that.
We would be investigating the same upgrades but we've decided to trade ours in for a diesel pusher. Glad you enjoyed the video. Safe travels!
Great video! We have the Fleetwood Fortis 34mb with the Godzilla V8. Very similar driving characteristics. We did a 7k mile 3 month trip from south Mississippi to Montana and stayed a few months then across to Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, then on to visit kids in Detroit and Philadelphia. It does get loud as well as bumpy but I’ll take that over the higher price of a diesel. Those tips are really good and so practical.
Glad you enjoyed the video! That must have been a fantastic trip! Sherri and I would love to take a few months off from work to travel like you did. Thanks for watching and safe travels!
Safe travels and happy holidays ❤️.
Thanks Delmar! Happy Holidays to you! 😊
Thanks for sharing you guys are like the only people I have found so far to actually show the driving. I want a RV so I can have my own ship. Ever since I was a boy I always wanted my own ship.
Our pleasure! Best of luck with finding your RV!
Thanks for this video! We had very similar experiences with trucks passing and body roll until we had the liquid spring four corner system installed. It really is the "game changer" when it comes to the F53 chassis. Our rig (2022 Coachmen Encore) now handles and drives more like an f150 than a bread truck. I think the next thing to address will be the transmission downshift on hills. A tuner should do the trick.
We would love to get Liquid Springs! We took one for a test drive while at the Florida RV show. It's just super expensive. Maybe one day! 😊. Glad to hear you are enjoying a smoother ride.
Buying my firs RV (Jayco Precept 36A)
Congrats! 🥳
This is exactly what I wanted to know. (How bumpy and noisy it would be to drive) Thanks!
Glad we could help 😊
Thank you for sharing
You're welcome and thank you for watching! 😊
I'm glad i went with a gasser the diesel pushers i have talked to while traveling across the country are getting similar Miles Per Gallon as I'm getting in 36ft v10 Georgetown around 10-12 mpg on "flat terrain", going up mountain passes that's when the gassers take the hit but 87 is much cheaper then diesel, when your filling up 70gal-150gal.
Very true! Gas is cheaper!
Every rv rig has pros and cons, nothing is perfect. We went from a diesel dually pulling a 5th wheel and are now newly owners of a class A diesel pusher. So my initially thoughts so far between the two are, the truck/5er is much more quiet and never notice wind pushing the rig around. The DP, I hear all the rattling and noises inside, albeit no noise from engine as it’s in the rear. The overall ride is good in the DP albeit is a bit squishy feeling in turns. Wind and 18 wheelers do push our DP around, so steering can be tiresome. I’m sure the higher end DP’s with tag axels have comfort steering and adaptive cruise which would be nice but those rigs were out of our price range. The class A’s are hands down easier to set up and more convenient while traveling, excess to bathroom and such. Trailers have their pros and cons, 5ers as well. I do like the exhaust brake and air brakes for slowing down in mountains on DP. You guys are a fun couple, love the positive attitudes. Keep up the great content.
Thank you so much for this video! Over the past 6 years, we've put almost a 100K miles on our Class B Winnebago camper van, and I was actually considering a Class A to get more space. Our van sounds and rides like a luxury car compared to this. Very, very valuable and enlightening video! Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful! The diesel engines are much quieter and handle the road better. We try to share the things we didn't know about when we started RVing. If we knew then what we know now we would have started with a diesel.
Our former RV was a 2003 Fleetwood Pace Arrow. We joked about how some bumps felt like our teeth fillings would fall out. The noise was loud whether going slow or fast. Now we have a diesel pusher and it is much quieter and smoother ride.
We're really looking forward to upgrading to a diesel. Any tips?
@@AmpedtoGlamp- we bought a used 2012 Tiffin Phaeton 40QBH. The only tips would be to buy the best you can afford. While diesel comes with its own set of issues such as DEF, cost to maintain/fix, the comfortable ride is worth it. Looking forward to see what you get and keep the videos coming. You two are awesome. Go Army!
Does the choice of engine affect the ride? How?
@@Momster89 Thanks Lucy. That’s great advice! We’ve got the best viewers!
@@malachiwhite356 most diesel RV's are pushers meaning the engine is in the back so there is less engine noise. The suspension is ours is air so the ride is more comfortable.
I had a ford F53 in my 36ft Fleetwood Pace Arrow and it wasn't that noisy, good lord lol.
Yea. Things have changed. A few months ago we added insulation to the doghouse. So much quieter and would have been so easy for the manufacturer to ship that way.
Yes! We decided the Class A was better than the same size Class C…. But short is better than long…..
Thanks so much for this! I am in the beginning stages of deciding if and what type of RV I want. Being able to drive it obviously is paramount! And what you've shown helped me tremendously by glimpsing the view, traffic, and unknown issues of road traffic conditions! Knowing ahead of time about the wind sheer with 18-wheelers, highway only bridge standards and the other tidbits you shared, allows me to reconsider travel trailers alongside motorhomes from the start of my research process. I look forward to more reviews and travel stories from you two! And maybe even a meet up one day!😊🎉
Hi Mary 👋. So glad you found our video useful! You are exactly the person we did this for. We might have made different decisions if we came across a video that shared what it was liking driving a Class A in the beginning of our research. Thanks so much for commenting and we hope to see you on the road! 😊❤️
@@AmpedtoGlamp🤩
@@AmpedtoGlamp You know what, I, too, am part of your target audience and I just stumbled onto this video and your channel completely by accident. I’m so glad I did and I’m now a subscriber. I was looking at the Fleetwood Bounder earlier today online and it looks amazing. With no further effort up came your video on UTube on my TV. I’ve done a lot of research on RVs over the last 15 months and have gone from trailer to Brinkley to Cs and Super Cs then, of course, to Class As. You just helped me in a big way to figure out that I definitely want a a diesel. I suppose I’ll buy used as literally everyone has recommended that we do. There will be 3 adults so a tri-fold is a must. We’re all over 70 and have only ever RVed in our 40’s with a friend who had a Tioga? So lots and lots to learn. I reckon if I get a diesel Class A I’m going to take a class from the folks that teach truckers here in Houston to drive. I’m both madly looking forward to it and very apprehensive but I think you two may have saved me from one big mistake. We’re not buying until Sept or Oct and we’ll just stay down south for the winter months. I live in Texas so that’ll be easy then we can comfortably take off in the Spring. If you two have any further advice/suggestions/info to offer I would really appreciate it. They have left all the research to me and I’ve got 400 notes in my computer and hours and hours watching UTube yet, in under 15 minutes, you’ve managed to alter my course once again. Thanks! (Not said facetiously. 😉)
wow that thing is LOUD, both the engine noise and the rattling.
We added some sound deadening under the dog house and it made a huge difference.
How do you get the “Demo Mode” off on the center Sony display?
Try this: Press home button, touch settings, touch General, then touch Demo, set to off
Thanks!
You guys are so cool! Be safe and enjoy the journey.
Thank you! Will do!
What about going through the toll?
We usually don't have any issues with tolls. They are more expensive than cars though.
Love your videos! So I see driving the gas-powered class A gets pretty loud inside. THANK YOU for showing us that. Do you know how the engine noise in a class C compares? I know it is the same V10 engine often, but is there better sound shielding in the E450 class C chassis?
We have the V8 engine which is very loud. But we've recently done a simple upgrade to quiet down the cabin. Took about 2 hours. Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/neuTZ80rrGQ/видео.html. We installed Dynamat under the doghouse and it made a huge difference. It's been a bit since I've driven the E450 so I can't say much on that.
@@AmpedtoGlamp Yes saw that. Thank you. .People don't understand what a difference even 5 dbl is, especially over a long drive! Thanks for your perspective!
I am a 20 year old with a decent job right now. I am looking to quit and get a class a motorhome and travel full time hopefully able to land a remote job. What would your recommendations be?
Hi 👋. Thank you for reaching out. We both work full-time (in office or restricted to a location) and travel part-time so we're not the best source on remote jobs. However, our friends @VentursomeCouple have a couple of vids on remote work and are planning to do a few more. Also @CreativityRV wrote a book about working remotely and has a few vids on her channel about the topic. Finally, @HappilyEverHanks just did a vid on the topic (ruclips.net/video/hoTd3aCdP7U/видео.htmlsi=Ai9O773lhlUgUSOf).
Also, make sure your RV is warrantied for full-time living. Not all RVs are built for full-time travel and many will not honor the warranty if you take it on the road full-time. Whether you buy new or used an RV inspection is super important. Find a certified inspector before you purchase.
I hope that gets you started. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
We have a very similar RV - do you know what holds that large middle console drawer in? (in the dash) Ours opens all the time while driving and I don't see where a latch would be.
Sorry for the delay. We're not sure since we haven't had that issue yet. Our RV has been in the shop so we can't take a look. There is a Fleetwood Bounder facebook group. I'm sure someone there might know.
Looks like 70 when pulling up the mountains in MD. If so, that highway is horrible going west bound in the evening. A lot of impatient drivers on that stretch after Frederick. Be safe out there.
Yes. That is I70 in Maryland. And you're absolutely correct. This road has some of the worst accidents in our area.
In other words, it's the same as driving a truck. I still don't understand why they let people drive these things without a CDL. They teach you all this stuff in truck driving school and you have time to practice.
Most trucking companies regulate their trucks to 65 MPH because they think driving faster is unsafe, so I get it.
All highway bridges are suppose to be a height above 13'6" because that's the normal height of a truck and trailer. Off the highway is when you will need to pay attention to the bridge height signs that are on all bridges.
Most truck map apps you have to pay for. This is why most buy a separate gps. I never knew there was a free truck gps app out there.
Most people never want to be behind a truck either, because trucks are always thought of as slow.
Yes, it is the same chassis used on many gas trucks. John and I both held CDLs and drove buses while in college. The company we worked for used governors to prevent speeding. There was also a chart generated that we had to turn in after each shift. It really prepared us for driving our Class A.
Some states require a Class B license (non-CDL for operating a single vehicle of 26,001 pounds or more ), but not many. We learned so much about how to safely operate a bus and it really helped when we got the RV.
If you drive trucks, TruckMap will also let you know if there is a load available on your route.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and share.
I'm driving a 38 feet long school bus and I'm wondering what the experience is with driving a rv
We drove school busses in college. The ride is somewhat similar but take out the seats and put in a bunch of cabinets. Instead of kids making noise, the cabinets and furniture creak. If it's a gas RV its a lot louder but diesel engines are usually in the back and make for a quieter ride. Gas RVs have a truck chassis and less power. Diesel pusher RVs are quieter with a smoother ride. Kind of the difference between a bluebird or thomas and an MCI or Vanhool bus.
I didn't expect it to be that noisy unless it's just amplified through your videos. I'm wondering if something like liquid springs would eliminate a lot of that noise or not.
The Sony mic picked up a lot of the noise. The DJIs were quieter but they are designed to cut down background noise. At 11:01 we measured the sound using a decibel app. For most of the small hills the noise level was in the range of 80-82. Steeper hills yield louder engine noise. Liquid springs would help with the ride but not the engine noise level. Thanks for watching and safe travels!
Ok I am really enjoying your channel. You guys are keeping me company while I’m working. Stay safe!!
Our pleasure! Hopefully we are helping to make the work day go by a little faster.
Do you use reference marks on the windshield to keep the rig in the lane centered?
About to head out in our Flair 32N from Michigan to Grand Canyon. Have not gone more than an hour drive so far…
No but we had lots of experience driving buses while in college. The longer you drive the easier it gets. Remember to take lots of breaks and take your time. Safe travels and we hope you have a wonderful trip!
did you do a proper PMCS? Good Looking RV
We did the abbreviated version of the PMCS. If we had a TM we would have, though. 😉
@@AmpedtoGlamp Awesome
Don't you love all the road noise. We have the same thing. Love the different camera angles. Lynn and Danny
Thanks guys! We had no idea how loud a class A gas engine would be until we took ours out on the road. Hoping this one will helps those looking to buy. Thanks for watching and happy new year!
Great video!! We'll know what to expect if we ever decide to get a class A. Henry seems like he's open to that possibility... never say never 😅
Come on over to the motorized side of RVing 😊. Oh wait....you have Ms. Geri. Each class has its pros and cons. I'd like to try a 5th wheel at some point.
I've watched many videos about driving as we are still trying to decide what class might suit us the best. This is the best video by far. You two are so warm & friendly. I'm glad I found your channel. Side note: I've been reading a lot about the Godzilla; my gosh, that thing sounds like a BEAST!
Thank you! 😊 We are so happy you found the video helpful! We later found a way to quiet the V8 Godzilla engine using sound deadening material. If you're interested check out this vid ruclips.net/video/neuTZ80rrGQ/видео.html
Love this video. Perfect to give you an idea of driving a class A
Glad you enjoyed it!
Im an old white lady 68 going on 69 , i drive a class A rv. Love it its a2021 winnebago Adventure.
Live in key largo . .. longer than i want to and plan for fulltime soon
Love the Adventurer. Saw our first on at the show and it was the anniversary edition....really nice!
@marshaclifton1535 I thought the one age going on another age stop at about 5 yrs of age 😀 - why did you mention your race?
I drive a Class A F53 Ford V10 chassis. I find the biggest comfort for me is the arm rests and keeping my forearms on them it helps me stay stable so I don't add extra input into the steering wheel. I have become very comfortable driving. I do have a new Bilstein stabilizer and stock setup in front, great tires help. I am satisfied with a nice 65mph and the power with the V10 is sufficient
Such nice people! Thanks for the great video!
You are so kind. Thank you and safe travels!
Great video! Like from Germany 12:36
Thank you very much!
That engine noise while driving is crazy loud🫨
Props off to you driving this Gas Class A excellent video. I actually purchased a Gas Class C 23’ and so glad I did because there’s no way I could handle anything larger. 😊
Handling a Class A just takes practice. With some patience almost anyone can do it. 😊 Hope you are happy with your Class C and you make many wonderful memories with it!
My goodness, it is LOUD!!! Would the diesel be less loud? Curious. Thanks for sharing. I just came across your channel.
So glad you found us. Yes, diesel engines are usually in the back and much quieter. Since this video we have installed sound deadening in the doghouse which has worked well to reduce heat and noise in our the cabin. ruclips.net/video/neuTZ80rrGQ/видео.htmlsi=RXy9PStPq7GsHuaz
I really enjoyed this video. Your video put me in the driver's seat. I never realized how loud a Class A could be. I assume that is because it is because this is a gas engine located in the front of the RV as opposed to a diesel pusher. Now this makes me wonder about how loud a Class C can be.
Glad you enjoyed the vid! Yes, you are correct. In a Class A the engine sits between the driver and passenger seat under the doghouse. That is one of the reasons its so loud. However, there are ways to make it more tolerable. A few months after that video we made another where we put insulation under the doghouse. And the engine stays cooler and there is less noise in the cockpit. Here is the link - ruclips.net/video/neuTZ80rrGQ/видео.html
My guess is a Class C is loud but isn't as loud since the engine is a little further away. Thanks for watching and safe travels!
Hello from Edmonton Alberta, love your videos always great to see you both reminds me of my wife and I , we know who is boss in the marriage, diesel or gas , I don’t think it matters that much they both have their pro and cons as long as you’re happy with your rig who cares 😁
So true....all that matter is what you like. So happy to hear you are enjoying our videos! 😊❤️. Safe travels!
Oh wow, that uphill engine roar makes me think Godzilla is a screamer than the 6.8L triton. Now I'm contemplating which one to buy. A friend of mine had a 2001 bounder 32 ft long doesn't squeak, but it's averaging 7mpg that's downside. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jun 👋. Yes, under certain situations the engine can get very loud. We get about 8 mpg. Thanks for watching!
Omgosh yaaas! Speaking about how fast some people drive their RVs: I’m in a tiny little Fit, and I’ve been in the #2 lane on the freeway and had RVs zoom past me! Pretty scary!
It's really surprising how fast people will drive in a big rig. If anything happens they are very hard to control.
what a great video thanks!!
Thanks for taking the ride with us!
Have you added anything like sumo springs, sway bars or steering stabilizer to your motorhome? We put front and rear sway bars and a steering stabilizer on and it corrected all of the problems you were talking about. We do NOT go over 60 mph. If the speed limit is lower than 60 mph then we do that speed exactly. I never try to keep the engine rpm that high. Slow down and take your time and save the wear and tear on your engine.
Hi Rick and Darci 👋 We thought about adding liquid springs until we decided to purchase another RV.
Looks like the area above Hagerstown 😃.I sometimes miss Maryland. Safe travels 🙏🏿 family
Oh wait…you’re not in MD anymore? And yes, we filmed traveling up RT70 and just passed Hagerstown. Merry Christmas
What was the trucker app you use for navigation . We have a 2022 coachmen encore 35ft . Pretty much the same set .
It's called TruckMap.
Man, I wonder if most gas class A's are this loud. I may have to rethink this..
Most are loud especially when accelerating or going up hills. However, you can buy sound deadening mats to place under the doghouse to help eliminate the engine noise. I hear it's not too hard to do.
That's was a great video showing a Class A Gas going down the road. I was thinking of a Class A Gas, but now I am thing about a Class A Diesel.
Glad the video was helpful. There's a big difference in the driving experience between a diesel and a gas Class A. We installed Dynamat in the doghouse a couple of weeks ago and that quieted down the cabin some. See this video: ruclips.net/video/neuTZ80rrGQ/видео.html. As far as the sway some folks install LiquidSprings or Summo Springs. Can get expensive though. If we saw a vid like this before we purchased...we would have gotten a diesel. Thanks so much for watching. Safe travels!
Good video showing a hillclimb. The engine noise can be greatly reduced by adding sound deadening material under the dog house. It will also add a layer of insulation from the cold and heat.
Hi Dennis. We debated whether to install sound deadening material in the Bounder but decided against it when we decided to upgrade to a diesel. I've heard it works really well and appreciate you sharing the tip!
I can't afford one of these, so I am living vicariously thru you guys. God Bless.
We are happy to share our experiences. Hope to see you on the road too one day! ❤️
Not going to lie: The front suspension needs to a teeny bit softer.
Agreed!
This is a great video. I learned a lot about driving a Class A Motorhome. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great video guys. Awesome job! 🙂 I couldn't believe how much road noise you had going up that hill. Just Wow! It truly makes me appreciate our diesel pusher even more. We are quiet up front. Going up a hill our rpms only increase by maybe 200. We have a Cummins 400 hp turbo diesel engine. Going up a hill our boost goes from nothing to 15 pounds and we just zip up hills. Even towing our car.
I have a question. Did I see right that at one point you were doing 81 mph? That is a dangerous speed for an RV.
I hope you are able to get some steering and suspension modifications. They really help.
Hi Adrian. Thanks so much for watching! We've been wanting to upgrade to a diesel for quite sometime for the very reasons you mention. Quiet cabin, better pick-up, etc. I surely hope John wasn't doing over 80. He tries not to go over 65, although sometimes has gone up to 70. Safe travels!
@@AmpedtoGlamp 65 mph is a great speed. We tow a Lincoln MKX. Lincoln says we can't exceed 70 mph when flat towing. I usually set our cruise control on 67 and just relax.
😊wow it's load on hills
Incredible information

Thank you! 😊❤️ Happy holidays!
Glad I heard this. I would have thought diesel would be louder.
Diesel engines are generally in the rear of the coach giving a much quieter experiencing in the cabin. Gas engines on the other hand....well....you already heard it! 😊 Thanks for watching and safe travels!
@@AmpedtoGlamp My experience with diesel is mostly military vehicles. Always hated that smell.

Drive even an old Liberty Prevost and the difference between it and the one you drove would be like driving an old Model T truck and a new top of the line Rolls Royce.
So true! 🤣
Thanks for the tips and info. I never thought a class A would squeak and rattle so much. That engine sounded like it was going to blow.
Did you have the mics right on the engine bay? Is there a big difference with the diesel pusher?
That truck app sounds like a game changer. I've heard of other apps that charge for the same info.
Our DJI mics where attached just below our necks. They are designed to filter sound and didn't pick up as much as the Sony mic which was also about chest high. The iphone mic was just above John's head. Diesel pushers are much quieter and provide a smoother ride.
