I spent a year looking to update my RV and everything was carp. I ended up doing a major rebuild of the one I have. For one tenth the cost I once again have a top quality unit.
You nailed it - STOP BUYING these rv’s! I looked for over a year at new rvs and found nothing worth its price. If it’s not right don’t buy it. Stop buying until they build em right.
@@AmpedtoGlamp exactly, I’ve been saving for a down payment long enough that I’ve almost got enough to buy a decent used one ~ and they are built much better
@AmpedtoGlamp Absolutely! They are not worth the price that they are asking for....Rvs can be built way better then what they are doing an putting in them...there's far more way better materials they can use to build these Rvs better for the price. The quality just isn't there I totally agree these greedy companies are so wrong for this
I have a 1972 Dodge motor home. Got rid of the 16 inch tube type split ring wheels that nobody will work on because they are dangerous and replaced them with tubeless 17 inch wheels. The motor home runs good . Did some rewiring. I replaced the pressed saw dust counter doors with real wood, did my own upholstery and new curtains. Basically an oversized van
If you buy a R.V. from a dealer stay in a campground close by for at least two weeks and use everything in your unit. Our refrigerator went down three days after purchase so we had to drive back to get it replaced. This is really important.
This won't help. The dealers will likely make you sign a statement saying they won't be responsible for any warranty work. If it breaks down, you need to sue the manufacturer and get them to fix it.
@@Tipman2OOO just the opposite.. do your calculations correctly as you should and use the correct materials for the job in question and you shouldn't have any problems sleeping at night 😎
I’ve never seen you two before but, respectfully, I love the lady. Tell it like it is. So smart. I am a NRVIA Certified RV Inspector; and you should be, too. You have a very good set of eyes and observation skills.
Hey Scott! I live in Florida. In 2021 My husband and I bought a travel trailer from Lazy Days in Tampa. It was a fiasco from the beginning. To make a long story short, though, we ended up having our RV delivered to us. They referred us to On the Mark RV inspections and repair. When the owner came to our home, he told us some of the issues that needed to be addressed. I called Lazy Days and made an appointment, which was over a month away. We drove over 2 hours to the dealership and dropped it off. They had it for over 3 months. Upon picking it up, I was told that there was nothing wrong with the A/C. I explained that it was NOT an A/C issue, it was the belt Moulding around the A/C unit that was the issue. When I picked it up, they had parked it in the parking lot between two other RVs, so we couldn't get into it because the doors wouldn't open. When we got it home, we were finally able to go inside. That's when we found all kinds of issues. When we opened the fridge, it was moldy. They were supposed to fix the door handle, because it wouldn't stay closed, and they left it closed with moisture in it. The A/C wasn't touched, and the theatre seating that had come loose was fixed. Not 2 weeks later, the A/C in the living room went down, and the theatre seats had come loose again. I called Lazy Days and talked to the service manager, and he said to bring it back in. So, for the second time in less than 3 months of owning it, it was going back to the dealer. At this point it had never been camping. The second appt. was, again, over a month away. We took it in, and they had it for over 4 months. While they had it, the second A/C had gone down. There was a dark brown liquid leaking into the pot lights in the bedroom, and on the back wall of the bedroom closet. After finally looking at it, they told us that the front cap had been leaking, and that they would have to take it off and also do roof repairs. They had it for another 4 months or so. We were so upset and angry over all of the incompetence! I had been on the phone with Keystone probably 100 times over the course of this process, that they refused to take any more of my calls. I sought a Lemon Law attorney, and I was told that even though I bought the RV in Florida, I couldn't file a suit against them because they are based in Illinois, and Illinois is a NO Lemon Law state. So, we are out $48,000.00 for an RV that has NEVER been camping, it is falling down around us, and there is NO recourse that we can take! IT IS ALL A SCAM!!! DON"T BUY AN RV OF ANY KIND! You will lose your money, because you have no rights!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
❤❤❤❤ you are a zillion % correct!!! I am a witness and a victim of what I bought brand new 2022. I settled my case against the manufacturer. This is the first time saying this online. I will take down some of my first videos. Thank you for letting me know it wasn’t in a bad dream.
@johntapia-du3dj: It's all overhyped advertising is what get people excited to willingly pay for overpriced lemon products. Think about how much money goes into advertising instead of research and development, quality being an integral part of R & D. I guess quality is not a concern anymore because there aren't enough safety failures for government to come in and regulate the RV industry. Besides, these types of expensive items are considered luxury products; therefore, the government doesn't feel the need to intervene on behalf of the public. This kind of good information presented in this video is a moot point unless the consumers demand better quality for what they are paying for. Business in America pretty much sucks. We're reverting back to the old days where profit is first and everything else is last. This is what almost destroyed Ford.
Unfortunately, in most instances, the reputation of "American Made" or "Made in the U.S.A." has gone from 'high quality' and 'long-lasting'to 'get away with what you can' and 'replaceability is more profitable.'' It's less about pride of workmanship and more about pride of revenues and profits.
It would be delightful. Capitalism does not operate on conscience and morals, so the change is less likely to come from the manufacturer &/or vendor and more likely to come from the consumer. However, we the consumers must hold them to account AND also be held accountable: we must demand better, but we must also expect to pay more. Our "Walmart-ized" sense of consumerism is part of this degradation of quality workmanship.
The RV industry has become accustomed to their customers fixing manufacturer mistakes, problems, etc. It’s unfortunate that this is the industry standard.
😢 WE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW RV& THERE WAS A SCREW THAT WAS TO LONG & IT GOUGED THE VINYL FLOOR AND THEN THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO FIX IT BUT, , 😮I COULD HAVE DONE A MUCH BETTER JOB ! & THEN WE HAD THE SKIN ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE RV PEAL OFF & THAT WAS A MESS & THEN WE GOT A ANOTHER BRAND NEW CAMPER AND THE AXLE WAS YOUNGER THAN THE CAMPER ITS SELF ! WE HAVES AN OLDER ONES & IT'S BEEN SO MUCH BETTER
It’s not really that! Thor owns 16 manufacturers. Forest river owns like 7 ! They don’t care! They have Billions and they make up the losses from their other companies. 🤔
You are the reason why I watch these RV videos and the reason is that you are small and have no sponsorship. I think the reason why the bigger RUclips channels don't help is they have sponsors and they won't bite the hand that feeds them. You are hitting the nail on the head. The RVs being made today are not worth the money they are asking. Keep up the good work and don't be brought out by sponsors. I am now a sub.
I bought a 20 year old rv with 10k miles on it. All the equipment works like new. Never had an issue other than minor maintenance. Paid 20k for it. Put 5k into new brakes and tires. Been on the road 7 years no issues. GM 8.1 v8 allison 5 speed. Its a National Dolphin lx 36 foot class A. It's better built than the new rigs and i saved over 100k compared to new.
@@AmpedtoGlamp I am an RV tech, and I promise you will not regret that decision! I love working on old units, they're built so nice and easier to repair because its not made of paper mache.
@@billcichoke2534 So, like an air condition unit that is not on the roof, but rather in the storage area or underneath the living area? If so, I honestly have never seen 1 in my 6 years and it sounds like a specialty type thing tbh lol.
More RV review channels should take note of what you guys did here, no one mentions the quality of RVs and people need to see this! Glad you guys made this video, hats off to you both! I want to see more videos like this, what manufactures are the best and worst.
Keystone RVs are the worst. They use cheap quality material for everything. Things break and fall apart very quickly. Constant fixing here and there. Outdoor rv mountain series are much much better when it comes to material quality, much less maintenance required. I lived in both, stay away from keystone
Great Video guys... All Facts! We bought a 2023 and all I've done is work on this thing. Cabinets, Electrical, Trim, Rotten Flooring in only 10 months! Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Luckily I have a Construction background and with the Service industry the way it is..... I totally get what you're saying. Sorry I could sit with you and just Rant too.
We saw your video on the rotting floor. So sorry you are going through this too. If you ever in the Mid-Atlantic give us a holler and we'll grab a beer.
Don't let the dealers off the hook. They claim they go through the units when they get them to ensure everything works, and certify to the purchaser that they have done this. Our expensive 5th wheel had numerous significant problems, including a heat pump that didn't work at all. That's really fraudulent behavior.
I went on a tour of an RV dealer last week. They said they got a used one in last week and they went thru it and cleaned and fixed things. I thought that was great so I went out to the black tank release lever and pulled it. Big mistake. Poop all over the ground. I pulled the two grey tank levers. Again, big mistake. I told the salesman to go pound sand and he can clean the parking lot, and I left. Apparently they had no problem lying to get a sale.
I have been fighting electrical issues for the entire year I have owned my camper. I feel for you. The manufacturer was great at the beginning but when I started to lose patience with the situation that’s when they stopped talking. The sad part is no one knows how to fix these things properly.
We sold our RV a few years ago. Time to get out. We're currently wrapping up a stay in an RV/park home resort in AZ. It's a nice place. And it's big. There are 3-4 mobile RV repair vendors on the property every single day. Constant work needing done. They never run out of business here.
Seeing more and more of these videos out there. Thank you for publishing. I had a 2009 Voltage (Thor) 5th wheel toy hauler. Bought it very lightly used. It was well sorted. Had “shinny new paint” syndrome and bought a new one with fancy touch screens. Well took over a year, threatened law suits and a trip back to Indiana to get it sorted. As soon as it came back fully sorted, sold it. Never looked back at getting an RV. Never again. The industry needs to go through a massive downsizing and restructuring. I have to imagine there is massive over supply right now with interest rates where they are.
It's disappointing that so many are leaving RVing because of quality. It's worse that folks like you have to fight the manufacturers with legal threats. The downsizing is already happening. Just last week Newmar had a massive layoff.
The more RV videos I watch, the more it appears to me that purchasing an RV is akin to buying a mansion constructed from trailer-quality materials. It's like paying the price of a mansion for the materials of a trailer home.
Have you listened to Liz? Amazing you guys should get a group of people together I mean because they are ganging up on her right now and hire a lawyer and protect your fellow nomads had a sell her RV and stealth.
You are absolutely correct about rvs!! It cost me over $20,000 in repairs to just sell my rv. I bought it brand new, maintained it properly; and still had problems after problems. I will never buy an RV again. A real money pit.
I have a 1989 Beaver Contessa and it is all solid wood interior and everything is still solid after all these years. It is well made and is much better than what is currently made.
Great content! I have had the same experiences at the RV shows I've been to over the past few years. It blows my mind that they send that level of garbage to showcase their companies. And this BS they spew about "you have to expect these issues because taking an RV on the road is just like it is in an earthquake". So why does the 1986 Vogue motorhome my grandparents bought new have zero of these issues after over 2 million miles of travel? Substandard manufacturing across the industry is a plague in recent years. My wife and I have been so eager to enjoy retirement and start RVing North America, but now we are just not sure, all because of these issues. Thank you for taking the time to make your channel and share your experiences.
The industry has forgotten what it means to take pride in your work. We'll be at the Hershey RV show in September. It'll be interesting to see if there are any improvements in the 25 models. Won't hold my breath though.
I really appreciated this video. I watch a lot of RUclips channels and I see a lot of people having a lot of problems with their RV new and used. I think people should get an inspection done on new and used RVs because they are not being built like they used to be built. thank you for this video.
Inspections are necessary - I paid an inspector and he spent 5 hours and said it was a good destination trailer - worth every penny - yes built before 2019 is the way to go
We stopped and window shopped at an rv place. I could not believe the things we saw in some of the RVs. I could have done a better job on trim work. It was horrible. The dealership needs to reject these rv and send them back. I wouldn't want them on my lot.
We bought a 2014 toy hauler beck in 2018 for $25,000, we’ve been living in it this whole time on my mom’s property, no issues for 7 years!!! The air conditioning runs perfectly in the desert! We will never get rid of it:)
Thank you for mentioning the name of the dealer! It just so happens that we have been to that dealership and looked at a couple of his units. You are right. Very good quality there. We are in the market for a diesel pusher and will probably reconsider his location. Thank you both for this video. MORE channels need to produce content like this and maybe things will begin to change. Hopefully Kim and I will see you at the next Hershey show if you're there.
My family started RVing in 2000. We started with a pop-up, 2 different travel trailers, ending with a 5th wheel. We got out in 2019 due to the garbage manufacturers were putting out and the ridiculous costs for campsites.
That was a thing that I always wondered, I've worked all my life in car automakers, and when something was hand made for specific use it was garbage. Thank you now it fits what I allways thought
Great video…spot on. The folks on the production line for our coach are paid by the unit, not by the hour. Quality can and does suffer in this situation if line managers do not insist and verify that specs are met before the unit is passed along to the next work station on the line.
Loved this video. Subscribed. I bought a '99 Montana for $3k & that's what it was worth. Im living in it full time but will upgrade before the end of the year.
I owned a Monaco and Newmar from 2002 and 2005 and both were built like a Sherman Tank! Had hardly an issue with either one and traveled thousands of miles on both RVs.
I was looking into RVs and I said to myself I started noticing a trend the only thing I was seeing was pleather and plywood I said where's the money the value just wasn't there😮
You'll notice better quality materials in older RVs. If you haven't seen Liz Amazing check out her channel. She has a video where she compares a newer model to an older model. The difference is shocking!
Just found your channel! The RV industry use to build better. They just care about satisfying the stock holders bottom lines ! They are so big they just don’t care ! Sad state of affairs for many years now . Good Video guys !! 😁👍
The two most eye-opening things we found on our 2023 Wolf Pup 14CC were the lack of a vent hose for the water tank, and the radio wiring. They had not bothered to run a 3 foot length of tubing from the vent fitting on the water tank up to the vent at the filler, and just left an elbow fitting pointing down at the ground. The result? You could not fill the water tank all the way, and if the tank tilted even slightly as you're towing it, the water would slosh out onto the ground. We ran out of water on our second trip. Easily fixed for the cost of $10 worth of tubing from Home Depot and a couple hose clamps, and now we have plenty of water that doesn't slosh out as we're leveling it. The radio speakers worked, but they didn't sound very good. Then somebody on the Facebook group for our model mentioned that the radio speakers were wired to only one channel of the radio. Indeed, I took a look and the speakers were both wired to only one channel of the radio, which was only intended to drive one 8 ohm speaker. Once I wired it correctly it sounded much better. Maybe they were trying to save a couple of wire connectors, but that was just too silly. There were some other poor assembly issues, but I'm glad I'm a handy person and I expected I'd have to fix a few things.
Watch Steve Lehto's vids about the RV industry and the fact that there is NO WARRANTY attached to a new RV. A couple recently purchased a brand new RV from Camping World, it never worked, and they found out that their only recourse (in the contract that all buyers must sign) is to sue the manufacturer in Indiana, where they never lose.
Yep. Also they will delay repairs or do half assed repairs until the warranty expires. The warranties are worthless. If one repair takes 6 months that warranty will expire quick. An RV is truly the definition of a money pit.
You guys are doing a great job!!!! I've been rving since I was 12 yrs old.. I noticed a huge drop in quality.. Back in the day, they didn't fall apart like to day!!!
Good video guys. I always watch your channel. As someone who purchased his first small class C in 1985, am on my 8th motorhome and traveled over 200,000 miles in them, here’s my take: I have seen them get worse. The more we added to them ( slides and more electronics were my bigger headaches), the worse they got. I’ve owned 6 different brands, including three Fleetwood, a Forest River , a Thor, and two Winnebagos. My present rig is a 2022 Winnebago Vista 29V, which is basically a very simple “entry level” class A. A Covid build rig. 36,000 miles over 33 months. We have had a few big issues and took it to Winnebago twice. We had warranty and non warranty issues they pre-approved prior to our arrival. The factory was great, techs were amazing and they even fixed things out of warranty they believed should not have happened. This is our second Winnebago and while we have had issues we found the quality was better than many.FAR FROM perfect and we just had a rear cap repair due to water damage but that may be partially my fault. The industry should have more regulation. Most of our problems involved accessories made by others ( window frames, water pumps, propane regulators, etc.) so the entire industry is a problem. But I have found good shops and good repair technicians. I avoid dealer repair if not under warranty and will continue as an RV’r as long as my body holds up. Thank you for your videos and keep pushing for improvements.
We appreciate your years of experience. We not big believers in regulation but this is a good case for them. At the very least we need lemon laws...something to protect the consumer.
Currently, the notion that an RV is neither a car nor a house determines that neither set of regulations apply to them. You're right about the need for some rules and quality standards going forward: since they are driven on roads and lived in as homes, then both sets of regulations apply.
You are correct on all points of this video. After watching many videos on RV's because I'm in the market to buy. I have steered away from any RV built after 2019.
Smart move! And, don't forget to get an inspection. And if you haven't yet check out this week's vid. ruclips.net/video/cAGfVtnty30/видео.html It's all about the buying process.
You mentioned RV manufacturers holding their suppliers accountable and you are so right with that comment. Just one example I consistently hear issues with and that is the schwintek slides but RV manufacturers continue to use them. I recently watched a video on the vroom slide system where they showed the major differences between the two and no wonder there are so many slide issues. Why should customers have to pay a ridiculous price for a RV then if they want a dependable slide have to go and spend thousands of dollars to replace sub standard slide systems? Yes RV's would cost a bit more with quality components but it would create a win/win. The manufacturer would same money from less warranty claims and the customers would have a better product and less down time. But unfortunately manufacturers and most dealers just don't care especially in the good times.
I learned from my parents to never buy a new RV. Let the first/previous owner deal with/fix these problems so you can enjoy your rig instead of dealing with repairs.
Awesome video, thank you! One thing I'm learning before I buy is a lot of parks will not accept RVs over 10yrs old. I'll keep following you for more info before I purchase!
You are so right on the pricing. What you use to be able to purchase a $24K travel trailer they now ask $50K for and the quality is terrible, this has definitely influenced my decision not to purchase.
The price hasn’t gone up just the dollar has been devalued so much over the past 4 years. So it takes more dollars to buy the same thing. Thank the government for reckless spending and sending money to other countries for endless wars
Their stuff is badly made, their warranties are no good, and the dealers dont do anything but keep your unit sitting in their lot. In my area, the real bad dealers are Camping World ( of course ) General RV Optimum RV/ and others. If this was the auto industry, everyone would be riding a bike.
Great video. I’ve learned a lot here. I’m in the market but I’m basically priced out. You’ve taught me to look under the rug when checking out an rv. Thank you for all you do
Thank you! Our goal was to help consumers looking to buy new. In the next few weeks we'll be putting out a series of videos on how to buy smart including an interview with an RV inspector. Stay tuned.
The quality is not there, that’s for sure. We have a 2018 travel trailer, still looks new. We were out looking for something a little longer, I believe we will keep what we have. So many flaws in these new rvs.
Last week I bought a 2016 Tiffin 36LA with low miles because I can't afford afford a new model and I feared it would be inferior to new one. Now after enjoying it for a week and after watching your video, I am so glad I bought a pre-2019 unit that's in top shape. Thank you.
As a welder, i cannot fathom myself buying one of these units. I have built trailers, flatbeds for pickups, farming implements, etc. so I have some experience. I don't know where they source the materials for the frame. They are so light duty that I cannot go down the the metal supply yard and source a new piece of the "I" beam or channel that they use. I saw an bumper pull rv where the tire blew and it cracked the frame. After that I decided that I would probably never purchase one for myself. I'll just stay in the hotel. Be less trouble.
This is crazy !.. Does this mean the RVs that are above $400,000. have better quality control ? Just because people are buying in the price ranges below 400K, doen't mean they should have to put up with, or tolerate, poor quality !.. It's like the MFG. companies don't want to bother hiring people specifically to quality check each RV (new or used) before it is sent to a buyer, or released on the lot to a new buyer.. SMH Keep it up, guys !.. You're great whistle blowers !
I blame the workers on the floor, if you don’t have pride in your work and you are not held accountable than your not going to produce a quality product.
I wouldn’t think so. I did notice in videos of RV factories a very young looking work force. My guess is most of the experienced employees have retired. I would also like to know what the salaries are for workers, if they have an apprenticeship program and if they have good benefits. Thank you both for for your reply and your great videos! @@AmpedtoGlamp
I solely blame management. I remember when workers that didn’t fit the core value of the company was sent on their way. The change must come from the top.
I never watched your channel before but I wanna say you people are right on the all the industry is becoming disaster and what’s happening is that when these RV companies buy these RV back they don’t fix them or check to see they just put a price on it they sell it and if anything is wrong, you’re stuck so you say a warm tea if for warm tea is in California and I’m in New York what good is the war Aunt going to do me and I really like you said they just clap them together and whatever the chips may fall that’s what you’re stuck with that’s why I would never buy an RV I would buy a class B well I know it’s going to be completely done and I would have it a bill made there were a lot of good builders out there that build class B vansand ready said Van is one of them. They come out of Trenton New Jersey and they have some product. The problem is it’s way out of my budget so I just look at them and wish I could buy them but I can’t.
So glad i saw this!!!! Retiring in 6 months and i am on the "obsessive" hunt to find a new'ish ekko, tiffin gh1, leisure travel van, or Travato to see the country 3-4 months at a time. I was awake all night reading these comments... and watching other horror videos that ive now decided to put the whole idea on hold and forget the whole thing. With what ive seen with my own eyes AND seen on the internet, im convinced that the whole rv world is going down the black tank, so to speak!!! Appreciate all the honesty here!!!!!
So disappointed. I am due to retire either this year or next. And I wanted to RV. Now I just don’t know. They are expensive, terrible quality, just do defeating…. 😢
Very newsworthy information. Thanks for sharing. My wife and I think you both are awesome. Also, we think we are more informative than the other competitors youtubers. Safe travels.
I have built RV’s in Indiana and Arizona, I’ve also worked at STEALerships. RV’s ARE MOSTLY GARBAGE 💩. PERIOD! Thank you for this video… it should be MANDATORY VIEWING for anyone before they buy an RV. I’m currently building a trailer for ourselves because I KNOW what quality is, we want it built RIGHT , and I want to save about $50K. 😎
Came across you guys, watched this video and I had to subscribe. I so appreciate it when people tell you things with a "helping hand" perspective rather than trying to push their newly made friend's product (as too many other RUclipsrs do!). You are spot on in regards to this subject matter. Quality in the RV industry is no longer related to pricing it seems. It also appears as if manufacturers place units with just any dealer with room in their lots. Some dealers are prouder, pay attention to what they represent (sell) and train their employees in their diverse areas of expertise, but I think the majority simply just care about their profits and add nothing more to the RVing experience than a sour taste. I'll give you a for instance, I'm in northern Georgia where the land is somewhat hilly and I have only been to just one dealership that drops levelers in uneven surfaces before opening slide outs to show you their units fully opened.🤔 (BTW, been to many dealerships!). Keep the good work and I look forward to bumping into you guys somewhere along this beautiful country. The first drink is on me!! 🙂
Hi @AlexUrzua 👋. Welcome to our community. Apologize for the delayed response. You are spot on about dealerships. With the slow down of sales there are an abundance of 1-2 year old RVs sitting on lots. We've asked about maintenance plans at several dealerships. Most have none and the motorized RVs have not been started on a regular basis. Not running an engine kills it. Not sure what happened to taking pride in our work. I hope we get to meet! In the meantime, safe travels!
That’s why I would never buy a brand new RV. I think if you buy a high end luxe RV that’s NOT a production model like a Prevost, that’s likely the only way a new one will have high quality.
Just found you two and already like you. I am sure you are familiar with "Liz Amazing" and her videos on poor RV construction and horror stories. New subscriber and thumbs up!
In the over 20yrs living in my NW house I've watched my neighbors buy their own RV's while I watch Steve Lehto discuss the hundreds of reasons why "not" to buy an RV. For over 20 years I've listened to Steve Lehto and can't help but smile when I run into hundreds of videos advocating such. If we ever consider the use of an RV it will be a rental.
Hi guys, I’m glad you guys educated your self. There are so many bran new RV with unbelievable bad quality that this is a big issue for many consumers that jumped in to quickly to buy the first thing they see. And the have regretted in a big way. This is why many people like yourself, come to inform the people with the same interests. The problem with the RV manufacturer is so unbelievable, that now RV manufacturer want to prevent people to expose those manufacturer wrong doing to the public. But the will fail in a big way! Thank you! Awesome video.
RV mfg need to stop using Wallpaper as wood finish, outbreak wood panels and trims, same goes for cupboards. It's not that much more expensive and you will save money and headaches on returns.
They used to use quality materials. Liz Amazing has a video where she compares an older rig and its newer counterpart....mind blowing the difference in materials.
As always my wife so enjoy your videos. You do a wonderful job and also entertain us with your great personalities. As I watch this video and others that have shown the real challenges of so many of the RV's sold today, It makes me so hesitant to get a new motorhome. We have a 1996 Fleetwood Bounder on a Ford chassis and we have driven this across the country six times and it really is so well built with so many components still original after 28 years. We have very few issues and the furniture and really everything is so solid and still in excellent shape. We have worn striping after 28 years but really it's held up very well. We have been in the market looking at new coaches and now we are thinking we are better off having this restriped and keep on going with it until this industry wakes up and builds quality. It's obvious that when this was designed and built by the original Fleetwood in Riverside CA they cared and all these years later it still shows. Thanks again!
Great video! It's truly unbelievable what these RV manufacturers have been getting away with. It seems the only thing left is for govt. regulations to protect consumers. What a shame. Thank you for being here telling people that might be unaware and get taken advantage of. RV travel is a wonderful thing, but the decline in quality is unconscionable. Hopefully, if we all let our experiences be heard, it will make a difference.
We need as many voices as possible. We also need folks to close their wallets. And finally, it's time for an RV lemon law. Thanks so much for watching.
manufactures lost respect for the buyers. The crowd was wealthy retired folks, now it kids that dont want to work and grift n freeload. Now the manufactures know this crowd will buy it. and they dont care and the workers lost respect for grifting RV owners also. The Public lost respect as the cities are scattered with worthless RV homeless shelters n kids that dont want to work n nomad.
Quality Control is absent with all RV manufacturers, I've spent countless hrs. making repairs that were all Manufacturer defect or just poor quality workmanship. Getting them to cover stuff after you leave the Dealership is such a hassle and you just get frustrated until you just fix it all yourself. Problem is each manufacturer claims they don't have any quality control issues. They all do. We are all like you, we love the RV and traveling and hate to say it's like this.
Some baling wire, a few rolls of duct tape, a 5 gallon bucket of Gorilla Glue will fix it right up. I quit RV'ing and now live in a 7 bedroom/5 bath house with 4 car garage on 23 acres I rent for $153 a month in Costa Rica. The house was built 1953 to 1979, It will very likely still be here 100 years from now.
I am not an RV owner. I have never wanted one. I do have RV friends and they enjoy the RV life. Most have older RV’s ( some have said that the older the RV; the better the quality.) Now, I am a driver who shares the road with RV’s. I am now very leery about passing an RV or being anywhere near one for my personal safety. Seems the manufacturers have problems with so many structural issues that they are now time bombs on wheels. I strongly believe the industry needs to step up and police itself immediately. Thanks for this very important and informational video for ALL of us. I am a new subscriber. ❤️
I love RVs, but after careers in Engineering and Investigations I've concluded that there's no way the product today is worth the money the companies are asking. Road vibration and impact are the worst enemy of RVs.
Why last year I started remodeling our 2000 National sea view 32' A. Gutted it. Should have it finished late this year. Runs great always has. And it's paid for. Actually and very satisfying and fun project.

Break up Thorist River monopoly and let building go back to the small businesses that used to build quality with pride.
I spent a year looking to update my RV and everything was carp. I ended up doing a major rebuild of the one I have. For one tenth the cost I once again have a top quality unit.
You know why RVs and Planes are falling apart?
Because all the skilled people are travelling in RVs and Planes instead of building them!
@erics.786 That would be nice!
Strict regulation !!
You nailed it - STOP BUYING these rv’s! I looked for over a year at new rvs and found nothing worth its price. If it’s not right don’t buy it. Stop buying until they build em right.
That's key. Plus there are plenty of used RVs with better build quality for less 💰
@@AmpedtoGlamp exactly, I’ve been saving for a down payment long enough that I’ve almost got enough to buy a decent used one ~ and they are built much better
I still have my 85 Tioga
Would it be better to buy used and just repair it myself?
Great tip! Thank you! 😊
good idea
Good advice, but really sad that the quality is this poor
This won't help. The dealers will likely make you sign a statement saying they won't be responsible for any warranty work. If it breaks down, you need to sue the manufacturer and get them to fix it.
If they were quality built you wouldn't need to do that.
if you're finding problems with things you can see, just imagine the problems with the things you can't see...
That's called paranoia. Get help soon.

Thank you so much! 😊❤️ We've thought about becoming inspectors after we retire. Glad you found us!

If the RV's look like this when they are brand new, I can only imagine what those units will look like after 10k miles!
We have 20,000 miles on ours and something breaks almost every trip.
It’s about time people realize, the quality doesn’t match the price tag anymore. Great video
Thank you! 😊
Unfortunately, in most instances, the reputation of "American Made" or "Made in the U.S.A." has gone from 'high quality' and 'long-lasting'to 'get away with what you can' and 'replaceability is more profitable.''
It's less about pride of workmanship and more about pride of revenues and profits.
That's very true for some industries. Wouldn't it be nice if we could bring the pride back?
It would be delightful.
Capitalism does not operate on conscience and morals, so the change is less likely to come from the manufacturer &/or vendor and more likely to come from the consumer. However, we the consumers must hold them to account AND also be held accountable: we must demand better, but we must also expect to pay more. Our "Walmart-ized" sense of consumerism is part of this degradation of quality workmanship.
Thor bought everyone out and it went into the gutter.
I can think of Boeing
Guess they need to start building these in China
The RV industry has become accustomed to their customers fixing manufacturer mistakes, problems, etc. It’s unfortunate that this is the industry standard.
Yes it is!
Dealers need to stop selling the crap since they’re the ones facing the customer? This would probably have the biggest impact.
Thank you @rickt1951 and welcome aboard! 😎👍
This. Same. Sub. Keep it up.
So who has the worse fit and finish; Boeing or RV manufacturers
Subscribed as well, even though I have no intentions of buying one. 😅
Smart move. In fact it's something we're considering.
@@AmpedtoGlamp I am an RV tech, and I promise you will not regret that decision! I love working on old units, they're built so nice and easier to repair because its not made of paper mache.
@G35Jeesh Then a question...who exactly works on underbay air con units? I can't find anyone who does...not RV does, not HVAC companies...NOBODY.
@@billcichoke2534 So, like an air condition unit that is not on the roof, but rather in the storage area or underneath the living area? If so, I honestly have never seen 1 in my 6 years and it sounds like a specialty type thing tbh lol.
@G35Jeesh a lot of school buses and Greyhound buses had the same thing. But outside of authorized dealers, I can't find out who services THEIRS.

More RV review channels should take note of what you guys did here, no one mentions the quality of RVs and people need to see this! Glad you guys made this video, hats off to you both! I want to see more videos like this, what manufactures are the best and worst.
Thank you! Will start working on a best and worst video.
@@AmpedtoGlamp Looking forward to it!
@@AmpedtoGlamp You got it! We're in theVirginia Beach area, so Absolutely! Safe Travels and have a good one.
Don't let the dealers off the hook. They claim they go through the units when they get them to ensure everything works, and certify to the purchaser that they have done this. Our expensive 5th wheel had numerous significant problems, including a heat pump that didn't work at all. That's really fraudulent behavior.
You're right. Dealers have a responsibility too!
We feel your pain. This just shouldn't be. ☹️
We sold our RV a few years ago. Time to get out. We're currently wrapping up a stay in an RV/park home resort in AZ. It's a nice place. And it's big. There are 3-4 mobile RV repair vendors on the property every single day. Constant work needing done. They never run out of business here.
Wow! I guess RV repair is a good business.
Well said.

The horror of outsourcing everything has now come to fruition in the RV’ing industry. Wow- just wow.

Yes, the Contessa was a good one.
I’m hearing more and more RV parks are not allowing RVs over 20 years old? Have you come across this?
Oh yes. No one should buy an RV without an inspection. Sadly even with an inspection there is no guarantee these RVs will be free of problems.
Inspections are necessary - I paid an inspector and he spent 5 hours and said it was a good destination trailer - worth every penny - yes built before 2019 is the way to go
Older the better it seems.
Don't blame you!

I don't blame you. I hope it keeps running for a long time.
We had the opportunity to meet with the owner. Really nice guy who stands up for his customers.
My family started RVing in 2000. We started with a pop-up, 2 different travel trailers, ending with a 5th wheel. We got out in 2019 due to the garbage manufacturers were putting out and the ridiculous costs for campsites.
Like in the movie War Games “The only winning move is not to play. Wouldn’t you prefer a nice game of chess?” 😂
lol 😂
That was a thing that I always wondered, I've worked all my life in car automakers, and when something was hand made for specific use it was garbage. Thank you now it fits what I allways thought
Management is responsible for the processes used. Good management includes the workers in designing processes and addressing process breakdowns.
Thank you for calling this out!
Buyers need to know what they are getting into. Hoping more channels stand up and reveal this so that we can somehow effect change in the industry.
Great video…spot on. The folks on the production line for our coach are paid by the unit, not by the hour. Quality can and does suffer in this situation if line managers do not insist and verify that specs are met before the unit is passed along to the next work station on the line.
Thank you for your honest information. No one has money to waste on poorly made products!

I was looking into RVs and I said to myself I started noticing a trend the only thing I was seeing was pleather and plywood I said where's the money the value just wasn't there😮

This is starting to sound like the folks over at Boeing?? Poor quality control, shareholders more important, ai jai jai!!!!!!!
We saw that vid. Unbelievable!
Yep. Also they will delay repairs or do half assed repairs until the warranty expires. The warranties are worthless. If one repair takes 6 months that warranty will expire quick. An RV is truly the definition of a money pit.
I saw that video he was talking about the contract that dealers have you sign, today. No negotiations.

Good video guys. I always watch your channel.
As someone who purchased his first small class C in 1985, am on my 8th motorhome and traveled over 200,000 miles in them, here’s my take:
I have seen them get worse.
We need something. And, the RV industry is incapable of regulating themselves.
Thank you Ma'am for your service
It's my pleasure. We both come from military families.
There is a channel dedicated to people who have trouble with their RV. She gets in touch with the manufacturer. Lis Amazing.
Yes, we know Liz. She is doing a great job and we've sent folks her way.
Thanks for your video, you two are obviously knowledgable!!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I learned from my parents to never buy a new RV. Let the first/previous owner deal with/fix these problems so you can enjoy your rig instead of dealing with repairs.
I bought used. I was told the older the better!!! I bought a 2015 Class C. We’ve enjoyed her for two years. We feel blessed❣️
Awesome video, thank you! One thing I'm learning before I buy is a lot of parks will not accept RVs over 10yrs old. I'll keep following you for more info before I purchase!
It's mostly resorts that have the restrictions. But many will allow you to send in a photo. They want to make sure you won't roll in with an eye sore
The rich will buy anything.Just because you have money to buy a $400,000 rv does not make you smarter.
Good choice! Hopefully things will eventually change.
Wow! 😯 That says a lot!
SMH
Keep it up, guys !.. You're great whistle blowers !
I blame the workers on the floor, if you don’t have pride in your work and you are not held accountable than your not going to produce a quality product.
I wonder though if the workers are getting direction to just get them off the floor? Hard to say.
@@acouncil8254 The core value is to maximize profits
The manufacturers are more interested in profits and the workforce lacks the experience to properly build and service RV’s.
Excellent videos! Integrity to tell the truth still matters and not going with the flow is still important. Salute to you guys!
Thank you so much!
Look at the older rvs built in the 70’&89’ or older they didn’t fall apart going down the road they were solid
So true! Liz Amazing did a comparison between new RVs and older RVs. The differences were unbelievable.
Those older units are usually made entirely of wood and are full of mold and mildew from years of water infiltration. Older isn't necessarily better.
My 1989 Beaver Contessa is all wood on the interior and there is absolutely no leaking nor mold and I am in rainy Oregon.
So glad we have a 2019 Newmar. We’ve seen a bunch of what you’ve talked about. Great job !!
Thank you! And Newmar along with Brinkley while not perfect stand out from the other brands.
We'll have to spend more time looking at Class B RVs. Several viewers have shared your sentiment.
Don't give up your dream though. There are plenty of good quality used RVs you can go see the country in.
My partner has a RV and it's crumbling and falling apart. It's leaking to and he wants to will it to me it's garbage
It's so sad to hear stories like this.
I subscribed to help y'all out. This is good quality video content.
Thank you! We appreciate the sub!
So disappointed. I am due to retire either this year or next. And I wanted to RV. Now I just don’t know. They are expensive, terrible quality, just do defeating…. 😢
Don't give up on getting an RV. There are plenty of good quality used RVs. Just be sure to get an inspection.
Very newsworthy information. Thanks for sharing. My wife and I think you both are awesome. Also, we think we are more informative than the other competitors youtubers. Safe travels.
Thank you! 😊❤️ Safe travels to you as well!
😎
We would love to see the final product. Send us a pic when your done (ampedtoglamp@gmail.com)
@@AmpedtoGlamp I’ll do that. 👍
Yes i have seen the change in the build of the RVs, thank you for speaking up.❤
We couldn't stay quiet on this one.
Just found you two and already like you. I am sure you are familiar with "Liz Amazing" and her videos on poor RV construction and horror stories. New subscriber and thumbs up!
Welcome aboard! 😊 We appreciate the sub and we are so glad you found us! Liz is truly 'Amazing'!
All good points.
Thank you! We're really hoping things get better but its going to be a while.
We don’t even have a RV right now, but we do enjoy watching your channel. A lot of good advice.
Just about anything you buy today is 💩
So sad 😞
You are right ! My Boss always said if you are gonna bring me a problem , try bringing me a solution at the same time !!
Apparently, while we weren't looking, Boeing got involved in the R. V manufacturing business.
LOL 🤣🤣🤣. Maybe...
Ha ha, that’s funny right there !! 🤣🤣🤣
Wow! That's an impressive amount of house and land for an extremely low rent. I've heard Costa Rica is really popular for retirees.
@@AmpedtoGlamp Costa Rica has a population just over 5,000,-000. Any more than 50 ,000 , moving here would be unwanted an have disastrous affect.
@@AmpedtoGlamp Leases are for 3 years. You cannot lease without Residency. Expect that to take 3 to 4 years.
Thank you for telling the truth and sober heads-up.
You’re still doing a great job. Thank you for your service
Welcome aboard! We've got a great community here and are so happy you subbed. 😊😎
I love RVs, but after careers in Engineering and Investigations I've concluded that there's no way the product today is worth the money the companies are asking. Road vibration and impact are the worst enemy of RVs.
We agree!
I had to reinforce the shelves in one compartment. It helped.
We did too . And we had to reattach all the trim in our RV.
Why last year I started remodeling our 2000 National sea view 32' A. Gutted it. Should have it finished late this year.
Runs great always has.
And it's paid for.
Actually and very satisfying and fun project.
