You are an amazing rv driver! I am impressed. Bravo to those guys that finally fixed that problem. Maybe a light over that area would help. Enjoy your trips and be safe out there!
the reason they have approved vendors is because the campground is getting back alley kickbacks. The whole thing is corrupt and that campground is a scam
"approved" vendors must be getting approval by paying money to the campground. that's why they are more expensive. having moral values does not make one earn money. if fact, the opposite is true.
@stephanieellison7834 And that is EXACTLY what it is, a "maintenance/repair RACKET." I have NEVER heard about such a ridiculous, reprehensible policy in my life. Can you say "kickbacks?" I knew you could!!
Wow! That takes the cake. Wouldn’t stay there even if I had a free stay. Maybe they shut off your camera at the end because they’re going to charge you for the cleanup, and you wouldn’t be able to protest because you couldn’t prove how (little work) they did. Just guessing. After all, they were so easy to work with up till then, right?
Me too! So many RUclips content creators will complain about some business organization but refuse to name names. But Amazing Liz tells it like it is! 😄👍
Thanks so much to you both. This is the first time I called out a campground (or any business) about a bad experience. I was just floored to have encountered this Approved Vendor thing for the first time. Thanks for cheering me on!
@@LizAmazing You're very welcome, Liz! 😊 And frankly, I question whether the practice is even legal. It sounds suspiciously anticompetitive, and may violate both Nevada and federal law. You may want to talk to a Nevada consumer rights lawyer and inquire about that. 🙂
Thank you for letting us know about the awful policy of “approved vendors” and getting ripped off by the RV Park owners. We appreciate that you let us know the name of the park to avoid when we are in that area.
Sounds like kickback situation to me! Campground making extra cash on backs of RV repair business! Wouldn't camp there again! So happy you got it resolved and that you never started up your rig before it was fixed! 👍👏😊
Much more common than you think.. maricopa county parks wants a million dollar policy in order for them to even get into the park! That's a county park..
Thank you for watching, Patty. And you know I never talk bad about anyone. I just felt like I was held hostage there. I sure hope they get rid of this policy!
Placing such onerous, anticompetitive restrictions on who can service RVs at at a campground or resort has gotta be illegal -- and if not, it should be!
@@LizAmazingI would have agreed to pay the fee, then would have left without paying AND disputed the park charge on my credit card AND gone to the police to file theft charges against the park.
It would be a good idea to get a written copy of the campground before going, because, from what I've read, the better campgrounds often have very restrictive policies and rules. For example, many will not admit a rig more then 10 years old, so you want to get permission in advance before you show up, and send a pic of your RV for their approval. Or they don't allow pets, or they require you to use their approved vendors for repairs.
Having dealt with this before….. I have a 100 gallon fuel transfer tank in the bed of my truck. I use it to fuel my excavator, tractor etc. I also have a fuel transfer pump that will suck the fuel out of your RV. This would not have been a super complex thing to deal with…. First I would pump your tank dry into a couple of drums. Then remove the plug on the tank to make sure I got every last drop. Maybe wash a gallon or two of diesel and refill your tank. Woulda taken more time to round up two empty drums. I would keep your old fuel and after a week suck fuel off the top and use in my equipment.
I've been in the repair business for 45 yrs. The fact that the guys didn't have a pump with them is unbelievable. Along with a pump they should have brought a ball valve that threaded into the tank and put a hose directly from there to the pump.
Ohhh Liz. So sorry to hear this. I can only imagine the feeling when you realized the mistake. I really appreciate you putting yourself out there and sharing this so others know to look out. I can't believe the RV park made things worse.
Liz, an inexpensive solution to prevent this from happening again would be to invest is some locking fuel caps. Without the key you could not open it. Also would help prevent fuel theft that is common in some areas.
We just had to replace our caps (on a 2022 Newmar, no less, after one year of travel 🙄). Wish I had thought of locking fuel caps…when these break, that’s what we’ll do. Thank you.
or putting a green colored cap on it which indicates diesel fuel, or like the post office does...they put a sticker on their fuel caps that says DIESEL.
I’m so sorry you went through this ordeal, you handled it amazingly well with composure and grace. I would say the bright light here is definitely I-15 Mobile Repair! Awesome guys!! Thank you for sharing all of this, the lesson and everything! You are Amazing!
Oh, thanks so much for your kind words! Sure glad to have you with me through all that. And thanks also for moving me closer to 100,000! See you in the next video.
OUCHHHH!!! What a nightmare! I am just glad that you came through it all in one piece and you are ready to get back to your adventures safe and sound, Liz (despite the campground’s best efforts to torpedo you!).
What a crazy story! I’ve made a few mistakes here and there. Once I was at a friends and she called in the middle of the night to have me move behind her garage because of extreme wind gusts coming. Half asleep I moved my rig forgetting I was plugged in because at her place I’m usually not. Well bang pulled the whole socket off of the RV😮 We both did things in the dark so that is something to avoid. Glad you finally got a good outcome! Safe travels!
Oh my goodness. Thanks for helping me feel better Lonnie. It's mistakes like these that we both know we will NEVER do again. Happy travels to you as well!
Yes! So glad to have that done and enjoy my visit with Marilyn. And that campground is in my rearview now. Thanks for watching, Jeff, and see you in the next video.
I was in Los Vegas shortly after you. We had an issue with our RV, the mechanic that work on our RV that worked on yours. The RV repair group are great!!
Exactly this, Ron! I did not think it was in the customer's best interest at all. And 30+ RV vendors on their list is $150,000 right there! Thanks for watching.
Wow wow wow!! Thank you for always being so open & honest when life doesn’t go just right, I learn a lot more. I hope you and your friend were able to still have a “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” great time 😊 Have fun & safe travels
I am amazed at your ability to analyze a situation, determine a solution, and get-it-done! Thankfully, the campground finally relented and allowed the team you selected to take care of the problem, but it is clear the "approved vendor policy' is there for a single reason; as a profit center. The campground people may insist it is to protect' their customers, but we all know that is just hot air. Again, congrats on your ability to see the truth of the matter, and get the job done. Yes, you are Amazing!
Awww, thanks so much for your support!!! Yep, at $5000 a pop they are certainly making some money from their policy. I sure hope they see that it is not in the best interest of their customers and change it accordingly. Thanks again and see you in the next video.
Wow!! I would never even think to ask if there is an approved vendor list. Now I will start asking. I've never heard of that. But $5000/year seems crazy to me. No wonder they charged so much more. I'm sorry you went through this, but definitely some learning experiences. Hope everything is okay now. Safe travels.
Thanks Carol, so glad to have that behind me now. Yeah, there is no mention of the approved vendor policy on their website. It's in the brochure they give you when you check in. I counted 30 RV vendors, at $5k a pop that's a lot! I'm hoping they ditch that policy for sure! See you in the next video.
The campground argument could be that they need more insurance to abate grease, motor oil, gear oil, anti-freeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid, battery acid, and fuel spills. Since not all chemical spills are easily detectable, records should be kept as to when and what maintenance was done by what company on each site. The approved vendor list should be regulated by before work and after work campsite inspections.
Your diesel engine has a water separator fuel filter that should be drained as well. Me personally I would’ve only drained the 13 gallons of water which would have come out of your tank first. Love your videos keep up the good work!
I checked the separator and barely anything came out, which was not a big surprise since I never started the engine. I had all the draining of the tank on video and water came out every single time until maybe the last 8 gallons. I think that must be because of the funnel effect, like when you drain your bathtub. Thanks so much for your support and kind words, Brett!
Mistakes happen! But how you handled this is true to your channel, absolutely amazing! I will never be in that area to camp but I would never stay there. That approved vendor list is a giant kick back scheme. The folks you hired were NOT vendors to the park. They were vendors for you! This is just like parks that will not let you collect an Amazon package outside their gate! Incredible! You keep right on doing what you are doing and sharing your experiences. We are traveling with you! Best wishes always!
Thanks so much for cheering me on, Paul! So glad to have you here. See you in the next video. And you are so right, that vendor policy does NOT serve the customer!
Liz - You truly are amazing! While I'm sure this was difficult to admit to anyone (let alone thousands of us!) you continue to do a service to your RV community and I for one THANK YOU! Keep up the good work (just no more accidents)! 😊
Yes. You are totally right. It was not a fun video for me to make and have to re-live all that. BUT. I know it will help others. Now I need to go on a retreat for a week! Whew. Thanks for your comment, Lynn and see you in the next video.
Oh Liz what a nightmare. We all make mistakes. My stomach was in knots listening to this story. Thank goodness it all turned out ok. Thank you for sharing you just saved someone the nightmare you went through. Best wishes on your travels.
So sorry to you both being stressed out about this. It sure was hard on me to re-live it. I'm thankful for the happy outcome. Now I need to go on retreat somewhere! Thanks for watching.
Great to admit your mistake. I put diesel in my gas powered Ferris mower. Ruined the carburetor. It happens to us all. P S. I admire your confidence while traveling.
Deisel floats on water ! Need to drain water from bottom of tank. Leave to settle. Heating oil tanks drain off a little water once a year or when appropriate/accordingly! It is always the simple silly mistakes we all make ! 😮😊
I’m so sorry you had to go through this, Liz! But I applaud your bravery in sharing this experience with the rest of us. We all make mistakes, but I will be extra vigilant now as a result of your story. Thank you!
Oh Liz! What a nightmare! I would have been crying from frustration everyday I couldn’t get it fixed! It’s good to know, however, that something like that can be fixed. You were smart enough to not put that key in the ignition, so at least that was one thing that contributed to success. Glad you shared but as you know, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! Best wishes for sunnier times!🍀🙋🏻♀️
YES! I put gas in a diesel rental car in France. Drove the rest of the day, next morning the sputtering and choking. I like you was sick to my stomach! Had to have car towed, repaired. I can relate!
No worries. We all mess things up daily. I once saw a video of man who put diesel in his water tank and then put water in his diesel tank. I thought I would read about him lost at sea but he recovered from that and he became a very good sailor. It’s the humbling moments that make us ready for what lies ahead. Best
Yes, you would have to replace the water tank. No amount of "cleaning" would remove that residue and the residue of whatever "cleaning" material would be needed to "clean" it.
Hi Liz! I introduced myself to you at Las Vegas Oasis RV Resort. Bless you!!! ❤️❤️❤️ What a saga! You did great job explaining all this craziness…For the most part I have had a good experience here, but I also have bumped up against some of the park “rules”. And when I tried to engage one of their approved repair services I was told their first hour charge was more than double what I have paid elsewhere so I said “No,thank you!”…As I said when I met you, I so appreciate you and your videos! ❤️❤️❤️Kathy
Hi Kathy! I remember you, so nice to meet you. Thanks so much for your kind words and for your tips when we talked at Oasis. Again, it was great to meet you in person and I look forward to seeing you in the next video. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Liz for sharing this ordeal, and educating people about this type of policy. I love your resilience in dealing with issues by yourself, and I'm very proud of you! We all make mistake especially when we are tired, it just proves you're human. I now know to double check to make sure the resorts that we go to doesn't have this type of policy. The two winners in this crap game are the RV resorts. I will not patronize a place who holds their guest hostage to be taken advantage of in this manner! Happy trails and thank you again for sharing this story. 💐
Liz. Thank you for telling this story. And identifying the name of the resort. The way you were treated by Oasis Resort makes it clear that it IS NOT the place for me or anyone I know heading to Vegas. There are always exception to rules, especially when the options are so limited. You did the right thing here and the kicker was when their employee shut off your phone. Not an honest place for sure. Plenty of other nice places with nice pools to stay in Vegas.
Thank you for watching, Steve. Yeah, I was none too happy to learn of their policies. Glad to be gone from there by now. Thanks for your support and see you in the next video.
😮😢 I'm sorry that happened to you. That's unfortunate, but you took care of it professionally. ( I 15 Mobile Repair ) I'm impressed how hard they worked🎉❤, they definitely take care of the customers. Thank you for sharing this with us very important good knowledge good data. What I like about your channel is that you give the real world events that happened day-to-day. Love your channel.
HOLY SMOKES LIZ! WHAT A STORY! This happened to my husband in his Dodge Truck. I'm so sorry you had to go through that but that story should be in chapter 1 of your book. That approved list from the resort is a BIG rip off! Also chapter 1🤣 Thanks for taking one for your team Liz! We're all the wiser because of you!❤😉
Thanks so much Valerie! Boy, it sure is story for around the campfire. Glad to have that behind me now. Thanks for watching and see you in the next one.
What I don't understand is why didn't they use some sort of pump to transport the contaminated diesel from the small tray to the large tank. It would have been much faster and also much less soil contamination. Thank you for sharing Liz. :)
Sorry 😞 you had to deal with so much stress. I would have never thought to ask the campground in advance if I have to use their approved list should I need repairs on the property! You are AMAZING 👏 Liz, safe travels ✌️☮️
Thank you! I just went to their website and there is nothing about this policy. I hadn't even heard of it before, so I didn't know to ask either. From now on, I will! Thanks for your kind words and for watching. See you in the next video.
I guess the moral of your story is don't do things on your RV after dark or when you are tired .. So glad you were able to get this resolved Liz , and thank you for sharing your story I am sure this will prevent some else from have to go through this ..
I accidentally put gas in my diesel pickup and it was daytime. I was was distracted by being on my phone at the time. Luckily I realized what I did before I started the truck. Had it towed to the local Ford dealership.
Thanks for sharing this challenging experience, Liz. I love the way you research when you get into situations that you haven't been in before. It's always good to be an informed consumer.
Thank you for another great video - I have not done that - yet, but I have done a lot of other stupid things. I usually mess up when I am tired or distracted.
We bought a brand-new Class C RV in 2013. Was great fun but had to sell it as we could not afford the gas at 5 plus dollars a gallon. Now we just stay in hotels or motels when traveling, ends up being cheaper. No large amounts of gas, no big repair bills that RV's need. We do miss the adventure but the cost of just having an RV was too much. Good video and sorry for all your unusual grief.
We make mistakes, I learned from a friend who put 40 gallons of gas at station in his boat's bilge in daylight, after opening gas tank lid he put nozzle in the rod holder next to the gas and didn't realize until later and gas poured out going home from station and in his front yard. He told me his story, aftter asking why his grass wats turning yellow, and I never made that mistake with my boat, thanks frankie
OMG, this is a horrible story Liz but it also shows your resilience, tenacity and never giving up is key in all you do! First time I hear of approved vendors for a RV park but that is probably because I never asked! In the sailing world in marinas it is very common and the even make you pay a % of the work to be done! Interesting they would tell you water floats on diesel ! Scary! But, once again you pulled it off, Bravo!
@@LizAmazing I learn every week something and I must say, I love how you actually write out like on a blackboard all the important points…you might have been a teacher/professor at some point? Love your organizational approach when sharing new topics with all of us!
Ouch! Sorry that happened and thanks for sharing the news about the "policies" of that RV park. They collect a $5000 "admittance fee" to get on their approved vendor list so the vendors have to charge an exorbitant price to make that up. Wouldn't be surprised to find out the RV park is also getting a portion of every repair charge their vendor charge when working in the park. I thought they might charge you for removing the contaminated dirt at your campsite. Anyway, glad you got it fixed with some guy who knew what they were doing. Safe travels!
There are over 30 approved RV vendors on their list so that is $150,000 each year right there. I was none too happy about this. Thanks for your comment!
Hey Liz. Thanks for the videos! I want to say that one mistake a lot of people make is turning the water valve (the one that switches from city water to filling the water tank) with the shore water turned on. Turning the valve with the pressure on will sometimes cause the valve to malfunction or break. (I know. The valve should be stronger than that. 🤷🏻♂️) It’s always best to make sure there’s no pressure on the valve before turning it. I would replace the valve (not a very hard job) so this may not happen again. Thanks again for your videos! 😁
These guys got the job done and thats great. On that note a 12 volt diesel transfer pump and hose sitting in the pan would have made their job a lot easier. If it's a regular thing, they should invest.
Townsend Tennessee KOA. The people there are the best. No horror story here. When our black tank needed repaired they showed up to do it themselves. Unbelievable how far they were going to go to help us. We got the problem solved without draining the tank, but they were willing to do it for us. Townsend Tennessee KOA. My favorite campground. ❤
Happy everything finally was repaired. Besides the 5K to advertise, I wonder how much does the “approved” repair person kick back to the RV park management for each repair job. Safe travels!
i bought a label machine at staples and i have electric scooters and each one has different tire pressures so i put labels on the side, in your case u could put them on the inside of the door lid, liz or the outside , happy trails
As a handy rv repair guy the worst is when the full sewer in a below freezing temp day blizzard and vent is covered then shower tank rinse open valve splits tank down seams and im in business.
appreciate you sharing your story. sorry for all the craziness but we all make mistakes. this is one reason I don't visit Vegas much anymore because it's a tourist trap with these crazy rules and the resort fees the hotels charge!!
Oh My Goodness, that is crazy! I can’t even imagine going through that. 😮 but I have to say, you handled it like a champ! You worked through it and got it done. So may people, would have been in a fetal position in the back room sucking their thumb, asking for mommy! I agree I would not want someone telling me who can or can’t work on my rig. That is just wrong. Keep on trucking you got this!
Awww, thanks so much for your love and encouragement. Yeah, that wasn't fun but I'm so glad to have that behind me now. See you in my latest video right here: ruclips.net/video/XcofyNWDyao/видео.html
I think the campground needs new management. I have seen corruption before and still certainly smacks big of it. Thx for the heads up. I will spread the word that this place is one to avoid 😉
Thank you for sharing,,, just read a story of a Lady getting scammed out of 90,000 dollars and didn't want the police to tell anyone because she felt so stupid, but the story was told, and actually help others maybe not make the same mistake. And here you are spilling your heart ❤️ out. Well cudos to you,,, we all have make mistakes some large many small specially with RVs,,, it took alot of guts putting this out there,,,Thanks . Traveling here,,, and today I will tell myself,,,, be more mindful in what I do ❤❤❤
Wow, thanks so much for your comment Jamie! It's hearing things like this that keep me going each week. I appreciate the love and support and see you in the next video.
Thanks for telling us your story - God knows I've made some blunders before... even bigger than yours! lol Keep on telling us your stories! Oh and it sounds like total kickback to the Oasis RV Resort management/ownership... that stinks for the customers.
My comments aren't posting. Hmmm. I just commented that this sounds like a real racket for the campground. Needs to be reported to the BBB or whomever.
If you post a link it will automatically not post. Too many scammers, unfortunately. Yes, you're right. But they kept telling me they are private property and can do what they want. Sigh. Glad to be gone from there now, and thanks for watching.
Liz, please be sure and get ur fuel filters replaced as soon as u can. If u haven’t already. It’s a very small price to pay to protect ur engine!! Diesel engines can be forgiving, but u don’t want to push ur luck!! Take care and keep ur great videos coming!!
Liz, I think you are an amazing woman. There are millions of women (and men) out there that cannot (will not even try) do anything on their own, mainly because they are afraid of making a mistake. A guy I worked for about 55 years ago in Britain told me, " the man that never made a mistake, never made anything!" It applies to women as well. You keep going Liz, it probably won't be your only mistake in this life. Thanks for having the strength of character to admit it!
Awww, Jim, thanks so very much for your support and kind words. Your comment made my day!!! See you in my brand new video right here: ruclips.net/video/lThzzjh08h8/видео.html
Liz I just found you today. I love how straight forward you are. My wife and I are looking at a RV and going fulltime. We are deciding between a Class A, or a fifth wheel. thank you for the work you have done its helping us make our decision
Working in construction I learned there are company’s that come to location and filter diesel fuel removing water and contaminants and return clean fuel, this is a maintenance on big building backup generators
You always put your mistakes right out there in the "front window" for all to see and learn from! This must have happened soon after your "Valley of Fire" visit! Glad things are better now. I have enjoyed your videos about the Redwoods and Washington state.......especially your reflections on how the Redwoods stimulated sober thinking about the gift and sanctity of life. It did the same for me.
Hi Eric! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. Yes, this happened right before I picked Marilyn up and that's all we were focused on for the first couple days. We met you just a day or two after all that. What a relief to have that behind us!
Wow! This is an absolutely crazy experience! And to think most of the mechanics you contacted had no awareness that diesel is lighter than water is absolutely shocking as that is Basic Auto Care 101 knowledge! For reference, diesel is 7 lbs per gallon and water is 8.34 lbs per gallon. And, I must say, I have never heard of an "approved vender" but being in Las Vegas where they wheel and deal for virtually anything causes me to not be too surprised; it's Vegas. Great video and thanks for sharing!
As a tradesman holding certs in two mech trades, upon retirement in 04 we decided to snowbird and ordered a new 38' Mobile Suites and designed a custom built 04 Internationa Toter with a Harley barn behind the cab. I became the defacto "go-to" guy iin the resorts we stayed at in Az. & Tx. During our years of winter snowbirding. After the first year of ownership of that trailer and having to repair virtually every system, eg: the 50 amp transfer panel being wired wrong to the black tank power flush plumbing, to the hydraulic slide pump leaking, to the crossover tubes to the brake calper halves all being crushed from them rolling the axles around in the factory on just the discs with no wheels installed, to the roof trim at both ends lifting away .
So sorry for the mistake made,I'm wishing the best for you.Thank goodness you were able to get the right company to do the work .BLESS YOU AND CAMPERVAN KEVEN.I follow both of you on RUclips
Glad you got it sorted eventually, but with more stress than you wanted for sure. I would have gone into MacGyver mode. 5 or so 5 gallon containers, pump from filler or drain from below into a large oil change container and transfer to 5 gallon containers. If it's coming out diesel rather than water, done. Find where to dispose of the dirty water/diesel mix. Add the diesel water remover additive to the tank, refill containers with fresh diesel, multiple fillups to get almost full tank, done. Painful, but in an emergency, doable.
Did I miss something? Do they not have siphons in Vegas? Quick and clean. You can also easily make a drain plug with a valve. Just drain until you see the diesel.
Everyone should have a water separator that can quickly drain water contamination. They are easy to install in the fuel line. Racor is the big brand that every boat uses. On boats that cannot afford to lose pawer at a critical time there are two in parallel that can be switched quickly by a valve. Also there are at least two in series in each branch a course 10 micron followed followed by a fine 1 or 2 micron. There is also an alarm that sounds when the bowl is full of water. A pressure gauge is installed across each filter to determine when the filter element is full.
This was an awesome video with lots of knowledge as for the gentleman training your tank. There’s an oil and fuel absorbing pads, and the slang word for it is diapers that could’ve been laid out there prior to draining the tank and prior to filling the tanks on the trailer.
A couple of suggestions. 1. Make a petcock valve that screws into the drain hole then he does not have to take the plug out and in. 2. Have small pump with a button switch from the pan to the large tank then the person under the RV can start/stop the pump.
Thanks for the video. For us, out water panel is totally separate from our fuel filler. I have also made sure that my wife is very aware of the type of fuel going in and we luckily have never had this happen to us. Good luck and I hope everything works out well. Love all your videos. Where we are seasonal campers, the park (in Ontario Canada) has an approved vendor list, however the vendors are reasonable and seem to be very knowledgeable. I think an approved vendor policy can work for everyone if the vendors know what they are doing, park management does not gouge the vendors causing them to have to charge more and are reasonable with the RV owners. Our park claims to want to ensure that repairs are done properly, vendors have the appropriate certification and insurance so that the park does not have units burn down in the middle of the night or spew their guts everywhere due to faulty repairs.
Yes. There are definitely good reasons to have an approved vendor list. Your campground it sounds like they are doing it the right way. Other campgrounds make it a money grab. Thanks for your comment and I'm hoping to get to Canada later this year! Happy travels.
I just watched your video, Liz. You did the right thing. When you said that you put Howes fuel treatment in your fuel, i would've dumped the whole thing in there...better too much than not enough. As a truck driver for 37 years (34 as an owner operator), you should put fuel treatment in at least every other time you fuel. Diesel has no top-end lubrication since they took the sulfur out of it. I use Lucas fuel treatment every time I fuel up. This keeps the moisture out of your tank and fuel lines, helps keep your fuel filters from getting stopped up, and also keeps your injectors clean, while adding top-end lubrication to your upper cylinders. Lucas and Howes are both well know brands.
Thank you Liz....you just inspired me to NEVER stop at Oasis RV .. Sorry to hear this horrible story.... glad you finally got this fixed. Sounds like an insanely expensive thing..
@@LizAmazing I learned a long time ago that it's not just price in any transactions. The question is, can you work with these people? I've had some interesting experiences with Mercedes Benz, and while I really like my Sprinter, I'm not sure if I would purchase another one. It has its highs and lows. We don't have any way other than the fresh water fill to just fill the tank, but, luckily it's on the opposite side of where the diesel fuel is. I think it's pretty amazing that you were able to find someone who could fix your vehicle on the spot and get you back on the road. One thing I noticed was your comment about having a Class C and having to break camp. Our Class B motorhome is really no wider than a full size car just a little longer. So, it's our only vehicle when traveling and camping. It's so nimble that we can just drive it anywhere. Getting 18 to 20 MPG is really why I purchased it. Safe travels and hope you're enjoying living full time. This is just not something we've chosen to do. It's not a one size fits all lifestyle.
Unfortunate incident, with a stressful situation being hampered by illogical campground rules. Thankfully someone there listened to your problem (albeit days later) and allowed those two hard working blokes to rectify your problem. And they worked pretty hard too! Good to see you sorted out the problem and used additives after to keep your tank ship shape. Good video and it might pay to put some solar lights up, when you are stationary.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Martha! I actually have a headlamp and that would've prevented the whole thing. Oh well, I know I will never do that ever again. Thanks for watching.
We have a class B motorhome, and I am now very thankful that our water fill port and diesel tank fill are on opposite sides of our rig. I would never stay in a campground that had an approved vendor policy, especially when it sounds like the whole program is just a revenue opportunity for the campground, as opposed to any type of assessment of quality or customer satisfaction.
I think you did a great job making decisions and figuring out the best scenario based on your mistake. Hindsight is Foresight but we do not have a rewind button, damn. And yes, we all make mistakes. You did great! Not everyone would and get very taken advantage of.
Wow an amazing story with a happy ending. Years ago I blew a tire on I-15 and had a camper make a u-turn pick me up and dropped me off at the top of the hill where I got a tow truck to get me fixed up and back on the road. Sometimes I guess you can get really lucky in Vegas!

the reason they have approved vendors is because the campground is getting back alley kickbacks. The whole thing is corrupt and that campground is a scam
"approved" vendors must be getting approval by paying money to the campground. that's why they are more expensive. having moral values does not make one earn money. if fact, the opposite is true.
The "approved vendors" kick back between $50 and $500 to the campgrounds,,,
Thank you for all this valuable information.
That campground is now on the do not stay list. Thanks for sharing Liz!
Agree! I won't touch "Oasis" in Las Vegas with a 20-foot pole!
I don't blame you one bit! Thanks for watching.
Sound like you found REAL mechanics...keep their # for mechanic advice.
@stephanieellison7834 And that is EXACTLY what it is, a "maintenance/repair RACKET." I have NEVER heard about such a ridiculous, reprehensible policy in my life. Can you say "kickbacks?" I knew you could!!
Gotta pay those gambling debts someway, ah tourists
Sounds like the management of the campground gets a kickback from all of their "approved vendors."
My thoughts exactly! Thanks for watching. And congratulations on being the first to comment!
Yup
I understand the approved vendor from an insurance perspective but the rest of the restrictions are a money grab between the park and their vendors.
I’ll second that “YUP” too!
I’m glad that you were bold enough to mention the RV Park!
@@LizAmazing what would be nice is for a large number of campers to stop there and ask some questions and then say "SEE YA"
@@merlemuhe668 Yep!
That approved vendor pays a kickback to the park management for every job.
Yep mafia scammers
Yup. It's 5k per year. So they need to recoup that by charging a premium. And there's no vetting otherwise.
No kidding.
Thank you for letting us know about the awful policy of “approved vendors” and getting ripped off by the RV Park owners. We appreciate that you let us know the name of the park to avoid when we are in that area.
You are so welcome, Kirsten. I was not at all happy and I sure hope they change it. Thanks for watching.
So crazy! I've never seen this policy before and hope I never see it again. Thanks for watching!
I'd have syphoned it out myself and put it down the drain - but there again I don't live in America.
That campground really put you in a stressful situation - even more stressful than the initial mistake! Thank you for sharing.
@@toomanymarys7355agree to pay and then dispute the charge? I don’t see how an attempted fraud would help your case
I would not stay in a campground with policies like that. You provided very good info - and, glad you got your rig on the road with no damage!
Thanks George. So glad to have that behind me now. See you in the next video.
Problem is that until you need some sort of device you probably don't know that is the policy.
Same. I did this when I was a diesel tech.
I was surprised they did it by hand
I've been in the repair business for 45 yrs. The fact that the guys didn't have a pump with them is unbelievable. Along with a pump they should have brought a ball valve that threaded into the tank and put a hose directly from there to the pump.
Yeah, I"m sure there were better ways to do this, but they are still my heroes. Glad to have all that behind me now. Thanks for watching.
you’re a trooper Liz!! sharing your adventures and misadventures helps us all!
Aww, thank you so much! Hugs to you!
Ohhh Liz. So sorry to hear this. I can only imagine the feeling when you realized the mistake. I really appreciate you putting yourself out there and sharing this so others know to look out. I can't believe the RV park made things worse.
Hey there. Yep, that policy was a first for me. Thanks for watching.
Liz, an inexpensive solution to prevent this from happening again would be to invest is some locking fuel caps. Without the key you could not open it. Also would help prevent fuel theft that is common in some areas.
Yes! I think I will do just that. Thanks for your comment !
Flashlight at night!
No matter what precautions you take, nothing is 100%.
I never going to stop on that campground!!!
Awww, thanks Renata. Yes it was quite the ordeal but I'm glad all that's behind me now. See you in the next video.
Always do a pretrip. Even if your just starting the engine, always do a pretrip.
Wow, what a headache. You were so smart not to start the engine. I hope your weekend is much better 😍
Yay! So glad you had a good experience with Augustine and I-15 Mobile repair! Thanks for your comment, and for watching, Vince!
Contaminated diesel ends up in desert 😂
@nickmalone3143 you know nothing about diesel or fuel at all!
The “kickback” is the $5K ad fee. Very self serving policy which does nothing to help endear the customers if their service and prices suck!
Exactly this, Ron! I did not think it was in the customer's best interest at all. And 30+ RV vendors on their list is $150,000 right there! Thanks for watching.
Wow wow wow!! Thank you for always being so open & honest when life doesn’t go just right, I learn a lot more. I hope you and your friend were able to still have a “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” great time 😊
Have fun & safe travels
We did indeed manage to make the best of it, thanks Don! Sure appreciate you being here through thick and thin!
I am amazed at your ability to analyze a situation, determine a solution, and get-it-done! Thankfully, the campground finally relented and allowed the team you selected to take care of the problem, but it is clear the "approved vendor policy' is there for a single reason; as a profit center. The campground people may insist it is
to protect' their customers, but we all know that is just hot air.
The campground are getting a kickback.
@Viola5501 8:56 yes, the $5,000/yr fee to be on the approved vendor list.
I’m so glad I watched this .THIS SITE IS OFF MY LIST AND WE HAD PLANNED TO BE AT THAT EXACT SITE FOR 3 WEEKS IN NOVEMBER. THANKS SO MUCH
I don't blame you one bit. I'm glad to have them in my rearview mirror. Thanks for watching
Deisel floats on water !
Need to drain water from bottom of tank.
Leave to settle.
Heating oil tanks drain off a little water once a year or when appropriate/accordingly!
It is always the simple silly mistakes we all make !
😮😊
Yeah, so frustrating that so many repair folks didn't know diesel floats on water!!! Thanks for watching and so glad to have that behind me now.
I’m so sorry you had to go through this, Liz! But I applaud your bravery in sharing this experience with the rest of us. We all make mistakes, but I will be extra vigilant now as a result of your story. Thank you!
Thank you so much, glad to have you here!
Yes indeed, that memory stays in Vegas. Glad to be out of there now!!!! Thanks for your kind words and support, Theresa!
YES! I put gas in a diesel rental car in France. Drove the rest of the day, next morning the sputtering and choking. I like you was sick to my stomach!
Had to have car towed, repaired. I can relate!
Yikes! So sorry, and thanks for making me feel a little bit better!
No worries. We all mess things up daily. I once saw a video of man who put diesel in his water tank and then put water in his diesel tank.
I thought I would read about him lost at sea but he recovered from that and he became a very good sailor.
It’s the humbling moments that make us ready for what lies ahead. Best
Better water in your diesel than diesel in your water! Glad you got it straightened out, Liz
Ooh, that would have been bad also! Thanks for watching!
Yes, you would have to replace the water tank. No amount of "cleaning" would remove that residue and the residue of whatever "cleaning" material would be needed to "clean" it.
@@TheWestlandgirl yes...total nightmare
Thanks so very much for watching, and for your kind words. Also for moving me closer to 100k, see you in the next video!
What an incredible story! We're so glad it turned out ok!
Yes! So glad to have all that behind me now. Thanks for being here.
I would never stay at a campground that has this policy-and I’ll be asking every time I make a reservation from now on! Thanks, Liz!
Yep, good plan. And I sure hope they get rid of this policy. Thanks for watching.
That’s so sad 😢 we live and learn everyday. I’m glad it finally worked out for you. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much, Jeff! So glad to have this behind me now. See you in the next video.
I'm so sorry you went through that! Glad you're back on the road now. ❤

HOLY SMOKES LIZ! WHAT A STORY!
This happened to my husband in his Dodge Truck. I'm so sorry you had to go through that but that story should be in chapter 1 of your book. That approved list from the resort is a BIG rip off! Also chapter 1🤣
Thanks for taking one for your team Liz! We're all the wiser because of you!❤😉

You have helped many people prevent problems, thank you. And it’s a very classy rig👍
Thank you so much, Mike! See you in the next video.
What I don't understand is why didn't they use some sort of pump to transport the contaminated diesel from the small tray to the large tank. It would have been much faster and also much less soil contamination. Thank you for sharing Liz. :)
Yes, a lot of people commenting that. I don't know but I'm glad it's all behind me now. Thanks for watching.
They're getting kickbacks!
Yep, $150,000 a year just from the ones listed in the brochure. Thanks for watching
You got that right, Rafael! No more camping tasks after dark or when tired! Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much, glad to have you here!
Thank you for another great video - I have not done that - yet, but I have done a lot of other stupid things. I usually mess up when I am tired or distracted.
Yep. Tired and distracted will get ya. Thanks for watching, Bill.
You can't fix stupid.
I filled my Dad's work truck with water when I was three. It was the first time I ever heard profanity. 😂
Thanks Bernard, I love your enthusiasm and good cheer each week. It's good to know you are in my corner!
I can honestly say I’ve never put water in my diesel tank on my RV trailer. Thanks for sharing Liz
These guys got the job done and thats great. On that note a 12 volt diesel transfer pump and hose sitting in the pan would have made their job a lot easier. If it's a regular thing, they should invest.
That would help. I am hearing the standard hose is not long enough but I'm no expert. Thanks for being here!
I thank it might be a good idea to change fuel lock so it’s different then water compartment. Great video
Yes, my thoughts, too! Thanks for this!

Yes, I am wondering the same, Sammie. I counted 30 RV vendors in their brochure so that's $150,00 right there!
i bought a label machine at staples and i have electric scooters and each one has different tire pressures so i put labels on the side, in your case u could put them on the inside of the door lid, liz or the outside , happy trails
As a handy rv repair guy the worst is when the full sewer in a below freezing temp day blizzard and vent is covered then shower tank rinse open valve splits tank down seams and im in business.
Oh no. That sounds epically bad. Thanks for sharing this...it will be a while before I get the visual out of my mind, lol. And thanks for watching!
appreciate you sharing your story. sorry for all the craziness but we all make mistakes. this is one reason I don't visit Vegas much anymore because it's a tourist trap with these crazy rules and the resort fees the hotels charge!!
Yep. It must be a Vegas thing! Thanks for being here David and see you in the next video.

I think the campground needs new management.
I have seen corruption before and still certainly smacks big of it.
Thx for the heads up.
I will spread the word that this place is one to avoid 😉
Thanks for this. I don't blame you one bit for wanting to avoid this place.
This sounds like a typical HOA story. Same BS
Thank you for sharing,,, just read a story of a Lady getting scammed out of 90,000 dollars and didn't want the police to tell anyone because she felt so stupid, but the story was told, and actually help others maybe not make the same mistake. You are so welcome Gary! I am so glad to be gone from there and have all this behind me now. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for telling us your story - God knows I've made some blunders before... even bigger than yours! lol Keep on telling us your stories! Oh and it sounds like total kickback to the Oasis RV Resort management/ownership... that stinks for the customers.
That's what I thought, not in the best interest of their customers. Thanks for watching, and for your kind words, Jeff!
I don’t care how nice the resort is nobody tells me who can work on my rig
My comments aren't posting. Hmmm. I just commented that this sounds like a real racket for the campground. Needs to be reported to the BBB or whomever.
If you post a link it will automatically not post. Too many scammers, unfortunately. Yes, you're right. But they kept telling me they are private property and can do what they want. Sigh. Glad to be gone from there now, and thanks for watching.
Your comment is here.😊
Liz, please be sure and get ur fuel filters replaced as soon as u can.
Thank you and welcome to the channel, Mike!!!
Your worst mistake was buying an rv
And your reason for that comment, why say that at least she is having a good time doing what she wants to,easy to make fuel fill mistakes 😂😂
Well you are a ray of sunshine.
Wow! I was on the edge of my seat! This was very informative. So many great tips! The I-15 Repair crew pulled out all the stops from the get-go!
I was so happy with them. Thanks for watching, Diana!
Liz so sorry you had that problem. But you handled it like a pro!!! Thank you for sharing & again great job in all you did!!
Thanks so much for your good cheer, Tracy! See you in the next video.
Oh my goodness! Thank you for sharing this. So sorry to hear this.
So sorry for the mistake made,I'm wishing the best for you.Thank goodness you were able to get the right company to do the work .BLESS YOU AND CAMPERVAN KEVEN.I follow both of you on RUclips
Thanks so much for being here with me Bob! Sure appreciate your support and cheering me on. See you in the next video.
Augustine is one of the best mechanics that I have had the pleasure of having him work on our RV by far. By the way a great guy!!
Yay, so glad you know him. He certainly knows his stuff!
This was an awesome video with lots of knowledge as for the gentleman training your tank. There’s an oil and fuel absorbing pads, and the slang word for it is diapers that could’ve been laid out there prior to draining the tank and prior to filling the tanks on the trailer.
Thank you so much, so glad to have all that behind me now. But yes, they definitely could have handled it better.
Props to Augustine, Albert, and Liz’s persistence!
Yes indeed! Thanks Seth!
A couple of suggestions. 1. Make a petcock valve that screws into the drain hole then he does not have to take the plug out and in. 2. Have small pump with a button switch from the pan to the large tank then the person under the RV can start/stop the pump.
Lots of lessons there.... Thank you for sharing! So sorry all that happened. It'll get better!
Thanks so much for your kind words, Ted! I sure appreciate having you here through this. See you in the next video.
This is a great tip, thank you so much John!
Love your videos, Liz. Your magnetism is a result of living an ethical life. God bless!
Thank you Liz....you just inspired me to NEVER stop at Oasis RV ..
Sorry to hear this horrible story.... glad you finally got this fixed.
Sounds like an insanely expensive thing..
I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to go there, Mark! Thanks for watching.
Awww, thank for your compassion! So glad to have that behind me now!
Wow an amazing story with a happy ending. Years ago I blew a tire on I-15 and had a camper make a u-turn pick me up and dropped me off
at the top of the hill where I got a tow truck to get me fixed up and back on the road. Sometimes I guess you can get really lucky in Vegas!
