Helsinki is a complete vegan haven! I was suprised but most restaurants have extensive vegan options, the standard milk is often oat milk, etc. For recommendations, I highly recommend visiting Oodi Library and its rooftop terrace, renting the yellow city bikes to cycle around, Snurre the yarnshop, and a lot of secondhand shopping is also amazing in Helsinki. The coast side with the harbor is also wonderful to take a long walk, and there's no shortage of parks and little spots to sit and enjoy a coffee or icecream. And, if you have time, visiting Nuuksio National park is also worthwhile, although please take enough mosquito spray with you.
Or maybe like a bee keeping suit. Finnish mozzies are hectic. 😅
So cool hearing how you learned knitting from watching podcasts because I picked up knitting from watching your podcasts!
Wonderful podcast, Florence! Love your mixed rib cami so much. Thank you for the new episode, and have a beautiful summer!
Omg Florence, I was just scrolling and was recommended your channel! I am working in that mixed ribbed top right now!
I was just in Helsinki last month! I really recommend going to a Finnish Sauna while you're there. The Allas Sea Pool is a nice public sauna, and it's very refreshing to swim in their ocean pool after going in the sauna!
I am loving your socks!! I haven't started mine because I need to shop for some yarn in the correct colors. I found your channel recently and have been binge watching your episodes. Love them!!!!
I've used the KFO blue yarn before and it didn't bleed for me, however I always put a couple colour catcher sheets in the water for dark reds and blues etc and if it does bleed they have always caught the colour bleed so I would put a few sheets in just in case.
Talking about color work sock and stretchiness: you should look into ladderback jacquard. I knitted a pair of color work socks (the Fairy Ring socks, by Katie Green) and I ended up knitting one sock with normal floats and the other using ladderback jacquard to catch floats. The second sock is neater and stretchier, and it fits better. I recommend looking into it if you are concerned about color work socks that don’t fit and are not stretchy enough.
Loved the episode! I really like Green Hippo Café, they have a few locations in Helsinki. They’re great for lunch! Apart from food I would definitely recommend you go to Suomenlinna, which is a fortress island. You can get a cheap boat from the market square 😊
Thank you for a great podcast, I love all your knits. Im totally gobsmacked that you learned to knit via youtube etc, amazing!! Have a fab holiday in Wales and Helsinki, they both sound amazing.
I used to live in Finland and my top recommendations for Helsinki would be walking down Esplanadi, taking the ferry to Suomenlinna if you have time, and Kiasma if you like art museums. Kaffa Roastery was my favourite cafe in Helsinki. Hope you enjoy your trip and happy knitting!!
For colourfixing I always use vinegar and it has worked really well with navy and white where the navy has turned the water super blue.
I’ve been putting off this beautiful tank because it has a provisional cast on at the shoulders and your hack is so exciting! Casting on asap :)
I really liked "The Green Hippo" in Helsiki Ravintola and they also have vegan food! I would definitively visit the National Library next to Helsinki Cathedral, it is an impressive place for book lovers. "Snurre" is the best wool shop in Helsinki (even Kutovakika shops there) with very friendly staff 😊
Have a wonderful vacation. Thanks for your videos.
The Lillehammer ski sweater has been on my to-do list for a long time, so I’m thrilled about your KAL idea. The timing might be tough for me, if you start it during July because of family commitments (I live in a beach house and for some reason, I’m very popular at this time of year!), but I’ll at least try to cast on with the group. I enjoy your videos and always learn something from you, Florence. I was in your neck of the woods (Cotswolds) in April, by the way. Lovely part of the world.
Love the knit along idea!
I love the idea of a knitalong for the ski sweaters, I would definitely join! :)
Your Moomin house sock looks so pretty so far! Surprisingly so considering the colors are primary and not softened, I'm actually amazed to see it "in real life". In Helsinki, Sinisen Huvilan Kahvila has beautiful view, the surrounding area is nice for a walk, and the Helsinki Winter Garden is nearby (it usually has roses and other flowers outside the main building). Sushi Wagocoro has the best sushi I've ever eaten, they may have vegetarian option but probably not vegan though.
beautiful knits, as always! and - omg I need this Moomin sock book - you should get a % from sales :D
planning on making your mixed rib cami in a lavender cotton/cashmere (: i can’t wait to finish a tank top wip so i’m allowed to cast on another hehe
yes!
Love your vlogs ❤
I love the fit of the weenie sweater, I always have an issue with sleeves beeing to short so this would actually be great for me.
On another note I am still hoping you are going to knit somethign in the poppy blue yarn you got a couple months ago. I honestly belive it would look great on you.
So cool❤
I'd love to join the KAL! It sounds like so much fun :) plus I love me a good color work!!
You completely converted me qith knitting for olive merino summer tops!! Theyre amazing and not too warm:) have you used the heavy merino on its own? I love the colours so much and want a winter jumper but don't like mohair...
Yes I have! It pills a little bit but if you don’t mind shaving it occasionally it’s a really nice yarn - I don’t find it scratchy at all but still warm enough for winter
(if you’re curious, I used it for the Lumme Pullover by Sari Nordlund, which I’ve posted a few pictures of on instagram/ravelry)
@@handmadebyflorence thank you!! I'll have a look at that!
I'll have to finish watching later. 🕊️
enjoy your vacation! hoping the asymmetrical cabled sweater goes smoothly, i’d love to knit a cabled sweater by you if you release it as a pattern one day
Have you seen the Baguette Sweater by Knits Pour Moi (Korean designer, Soumine Kim) ? It’s a really beautiful cabled sweater. Something about it made me think of you. Maybe it was the colour. It has some lovely feathery cables that I haven’t seen before. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for your cable design x
this sounds like the perfect excuse for me to buy more yarn and knit a color work sweater
❤
Which KAL are you in for the book club cardigan? I’m just a bit behind you in my progress on this one and I’d love to see all the comments about making the sleeves bigger. I really don’t want tight sleeves!
Love the KAL proposal! Is the Oxford Yarn Store your favourite yarn shop in Oxford?
Hi Florence, just wondering what you think about knitting with animal fibers while being vegan. I myself am a vegan, but I do find myself torn between loving to knit (especially with wool) and feeling guilty for the animals suffering. I would really be interested in your thoughts! (And just to be clear: I really don't intend to be judgy or anything, just curious to learn about other perspectives on this topic so I can make up my own mind). Thanks :)
What is nonrolling stockinette?
£150!! 😮
xXX👍👍👍
What happened to Flo's study diary channel. Haven't watched a video from you in a while?
That winnie sweater is basically a copy of the Cloud Sweater by PetiteKnit.
I don’t think so!
I haven’t bought the Cloud Sweater pattern, but from memory I don’t see many similarities aside from the fact they’re stockinette (like almost all jumpers). The Cloud Sweater I think has rib and rolled edges, whereas this one has non-rolling stockinette edges. The Cloud Sweater has probably tapered sleeves as opposed to the flared sleeves here. And the shoulder construction seems to be also completely different!
Really struggling to find similarities at all, and I say this as someone who loves PetiteKnit patterns.
