I love your podcast! The way you encourage each other and get excited for one another is a breath of fresh air on RUclips. Thank you for a delightful podcast!❤🧶
I just came across your channel yesterday and I just wanted to say that I absolutely love it here. Totally feels like we are having a chat! And it is kinda fueling my current obession with knitting haha! I'm a beginner knitter (however, long time crocheter), but seeing all the beautiful knits that you two make is giving me some confidence to try more complicated patterns. I really want to make a vest as I feel like it would be appropriate for Brisbane "winters" and I had been intimidated by the suggestion to hold two yarns together, but you two do that for so many of your knits that I'm feeling like maybe I'm overthinking it?!
Can I just say that, as an engineer I think your idea of putting a ribbon or even eye cord (though that might be bulky now that it’s already knit) in the back to bear the load is a brilliant idea and will definitely work. Just be careful not to make the ribbon ends at either side the new stress points.
The ribbon idea is spot on. You see a lot of merino knitwear in shops (at least Glassons does this) who use a clear plastic tape to reinforce the shoulders of their tops. If you want to keep it all natural, have a look at the fabric shops for silk remnants and use the selvedges for reinforcement
Hi, love the podcast! Regarding the Clay jumper, how about double crochet every second stitch or whatever is necessary on the inside shoulder seam? I often make necklines smaller by crocheting too. Hope that makes sense! Helen
I’ve just found your podcast and I’m so glad! I’m also an Aussie knitter, but in Perth don’t have as much need for lots of warm knitwear unfortunately…You two are adorable, and I’ve been going back through your archives to watch more videos 😊
Love your makes, WIPs, stash and plans - the whole vibe. I'm inspired to get on and make my Clay sweater. I'm in Sydney and cold here as well. Thanks for a lovely podcast. :)
Paige our Book Club cardigans will match! I overbought the River Sands yarn (I thought it said 200m not 200g) so I’m using the leftovers for this! Holding it with the Ito Sensai mohair in the color Angora
The ribbon/elastic across the shoulders is a good idea! If you look at a lot of stretch garments (store bought t-shirts for example) it will be sewn into the seam as part of the normal construction. Often it's that clear swimwear/chlorine resistant elastic, I've also seen people use the polyester ribbon that comes on swing tags from fancy clothing brands (not sure if this made any sense).
I had ribbons across the back shoulder all the time, especially with cardigans. Sew one strip of ribbon from one side, all the way to the other side then, the back neckline won’t stretch either
Sarah, you made Paige’s project bag in mustard and yours in blue… can you remind me the pattern? I went back through show notes but couldn’t find it (though I know you have linked it before). You’ve inspired me to make one of my own!! 💙from Colorado!
Ahhhh! Excited that Sarah is testing for Kika too! I'm doing one of the book knits as well and I'm so excited about it. Those colors are absolutely gorgeous for that knit, too!
love all the yarns you bought, especially the wandering flock skeins. i had not heard of garntopia before you mentioned it last episode i think, and now i am extremely tempted to get some blown yarn for a jumper. i think one of you have used the sandnes garn poppy yarn in a previous episode. how does the snefnug feel compared to it? was tossing up between those or also the kos from sandnes which is a slightly different fibre composition but still a blown yarn.
I am constantly amazed by the yarns and projects you choose! I have the same response as paige with my eyes getting so big when I see something I want so badly lol!
Simple structural hack to prevent/ minimise garment stretch is to add a crochet chain along whatever ‘seam’ line on the inside of the garment - adds minimal bulk, no extra resources needed (eg elastic, ribbon), simple, quick
I think the ribbon in the back of the clay sweater would totally work!! I know I shouldn't, ut I am so here for the yarns you gals are buying ihihih👀👀❤❤
The Bendigo mohair combo for the BCC is going to be AMAZING! Love the Clay sweater too. I reckon a crochet chain on the inside shoulder seam and some elastic should do the trick! x
Woohoo another Australian knitting channel, (I am from Sydney!) just stumbled on your program - very inspiring and light hearted content.....much appreciated!
You can slip stitch with a crochet hook along the inside seam of the shoulders to keep them from stretching down. I’ve done that a bunch for necklines and it tends to hold up well.
I love your yarn purchases! 🤩 I live in Norway and Garntopia is my go-to online yarnshop. I love Paige’s unicorn yarns. How about knitting a plain raglan sweater like KFO’s It’s not a sweatshirt in this yarn? This design will make the yarn shine and the sweater would be so cool! 🦄 Btw I used to head up Dalegarn and we published all the Norwegian ski sweaters. They were made in Heilo, which has since been discontinued. 😢 Peer Gynt is its equivalent with the same gauge, only by a competing yarn manufacturer. 😊 Dalegarn has dwindled these past few years while Sandnesgarn has boomed. 🎉
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I have a couple sweater’s worth of stashed Heilo from my first knitting life, 25-30 years ago. So nice to know it could sub for Peer Gynt. Love the Heilo. Has been interesting too that Dalegarn faded away and Sandnes is so strong. Dalegarn was the best for patterns and yarn. I also have a sweater’s worth of Rauma 3-tråds strikkegarn. I don’t think that is made any more.
Wonderful video!. And Paige I'm smiling now as I also just purchased SG Silk Mohair and SG Sunday in Sunny Lime to make Cumulus Blouse. Its just delicious and will look great on you!
So enjoyable knitting along to your chatty podcasts! Congratulations to Paige for passing her Exams! I would justifying buying up big with celebratory yarn purchases for some time! 😉😉 And after seeing Amy’s Clay Sweater I bought the pattern immediately. Sadly Bendigo doesn’t have Woodland at the moment but I’m sure I’ll find something suitable in my stash. 🤔 also downloaded the Winters Frost Sock. Happy Knitting!
Thanks so much!!! The celebrations are still ongoing 😂 Woodland from Bendigo was limited edition, but they come out with a similarly cute tweedy range now and again, so keep your eyes peeled!
You could do a crochet chain along the neck/shoulders of your sweater. Roxanne Richardson has a helpful tutorial. I did this on a raglan cardigan of mine last week, even though I can't actually crochet. But it was really easy and the cardigan doesn't seem to sag. Love your episodes! I'm now going back and catching up on al the old ones I haven't seen yet.
Love the sweaters. To keep the neck from stretching out, you may want to limit how big around it is at the bottom of the ribbing (where the sweater body starts). There are different types of elastic - maybe some firm elastic will make it stretchy enough to go over your head, but will allow it to spring back and limit the stretch once it is on you.
You have no idea how happy was to see the notification pop up that there was a new ep from you guys- i just had a horrendous night shift and needed some cheer before heading back in tonight. Loved seeing your BWM projects, i got the woodlands in the natural cream colour and it made a lovely Stick Season. Feeling very silly now that I didn't buy ALL THE COLOURS! Congrats on passing your exam Paige, hope you have a brilliant bit of a rest now before AT life!!
I stumbled across you girls and am so happy to find a Melbourne based podcast!! Loved all the content. Loooooved the Wandering Flock yarn showed at the end, just amazing. I just received a big order from BWM (a farewell gift from my previous work team) so didn't pay for that one and then went to Sunspun yesterday and made another hefty purchase eeek. But today when I saw the gorgeous red beanie, I now want one of those....I can't justify buying any more wool and adding to my already substantial stash...can I??? 💓💓💓
Your lopapeysa from Iceland is gorgeous!! I'm going to Iceland in Nov this year! Keen to get some yarn from a couple of the small stores and a mill people can visit!! Love catching up with your WIPs and FOs, gives me joy!
Wow knowing you guys are getting amped up for colder weather and knitting is reigniting me wanting to knit even though it’s HOT on this side of the globe thanks
Ahhh so happy you're joining the KAL Paige, it's going to look so good in that tweedy yarn! And congrats for passing your exams 🥳 Sarah, the colours you chose for the secret test knit look stunning together I'm so excited to see the result in the project 😍
Sarah, thcolor of the Clay sweater is beautiful on you. OMG you guys - another awesome episode! Beautiful knits, beautiful patterns, beautiful yarns! Sarah remembering Paige’s buttons had me laughing out loud! And BRIDGERTON! Come on! I’ve watched S3 2x, plus rewatched S1 & S2 - perfect background viewing for knitting (apparently internationally!) 🙌🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🙌 PS Paige, your Olympic base colors matched the sweater you were wearing in the video! So funny how we all gravitate towards our fave colors. 👍👍 Can’t wait to see progress on both your book cardigans… Paige, you have to share your ribbon vest again, too. I haven’t touched my colorwork vest in months - I need some motivation! 😜 Looking forward to the next episode - thanks for posting! ❤️🥰❤️
