- I thought I share my 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid - Spare Tire Kit
NOTE: 2022 Accord Hybrid Touring uses 19" Tires and I'm told by a few viewers it will work also.
I always had a big nag for Honda not putting a spare tire in the hybrid so I went out and purchased it in a Honda Kit that my service dealer put together for me. It's one of those things we don't worry about til we need it. Special thanks to Livermore Honda for helping me.
I'll show which components that I have purchased with part numbers so you can get your own spare tire for the Honda Accord Hybrid as well.

Note the tire isn't light very weight but not too heavy given it's a donut tire and not a full-size spare. I haven't driven too much the vehicle since I only pick up the spare tire today. I can't say how much MPG will be lost with the spare tire yet.
Please check out the video and help me with a thumbs up. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid. Thank you so much for posting this!! I took the part list to my local Honda dealership. Everything went so smoothly! They even put the spare in the car for free! This was so helpful to me! Thanks again!
Yw
Thank you tremendously for this video! I have a 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring it didn't come with a spare/donut tire--this really concerned me. After watching this video I did exactly what you said to do. I used the parts list you listed in the video. I also want to mention, before going to the dealership for assistance with ordering the parts, I found all of the parts online with discounted prices, I sought to order the parts online, but the shipping charges were outrageous. I took the parts list with the discounted prices from the website to the local Honda dealership they initially didn't want to honor the website prices, but they did after we talked more.
This comment section won't allow me to post the pictures, everything worked out GREAT!
Thanks for sharing the experience.
I bought a 2022 Accord Hybrid Touring and everything works great. The 17" spare is the same overall height of the stock tire and wheel combo. I was smart enough to get my dealer to add the entire kit into my deal at no charge. Very lucky. Awesome job on the video and it save saved be lots of frustration and $$$. Kudo's to you.
Glad it helped, thanks for the info on 2022 models also.
@@netman88 left off that I do have the 19" wheels and tires and side by side there is no reason why this setup won't work.
@@Bohern1 Given a few people also ack that it works, I've updated the description and comments. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for listing the part numbers
DISCLAIMER: I have posted the spare tire parts list in the description to help others order a spare tire for their 2018 and newer hybrid Accord. I'm not, a mechanic and I'm not Honda, I'm told by dealers that it's okay to have a spare tire for the hybrid but will affect few economy a tab thought. I take no responsibility if you order one and it doesn't work or it's not good to have one. I'm just showing what I have on the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid. It's up to the sole viewer to decided if they want to get a spare tire. This video is made solely for entertainment purposes only.
Hi,
I have honda 2019 accord hybrid
Which means I can buy entire kit you bought. I just called the delership they quoted me entire rim and tire for $900.00 plus tax, they never mentioned the kit special order you have. I had horrible experience w my flat a while back. I want to plan this out wisely
This fits perfectly for the 22 hybrid ex-l. Now I feel better knowing I’ve got a spare. 300 in total, search the internet for the parts first before looking into the dealer.
Thank you for this. Saved me some time with my research!!
Are you getting a new hybrid? My dealer told me that the trunk is the same as the 2018 model
2018 and 2021
I got the 2021 accord hybrid exL. Havent gotten the spare yet tho
@@Chonsta how’s that car? I’m about to purchase that one
Thanks for posting this. I'm getting an EX hybrid, and I'm putting a real spare in. The part numbers were very helpful.
One thing to note in case anyone else does this. The box kit, wheel, and tire numbers he reported are for the 17" spare tire on the Sport package and the 2.0T package for the EX-L and Touring. The numbers below should work for the 16" spare tires on the LX, EX, and 1.5 EX-L.
Box, tool - 84542-TVA-A00
Wheel - 42700-T2A-A52
Tire - 42751-KEN-007
Thanks for the posting and feedback also. I actually are using my spare today, I got a flat last night. My best purchase I ever made IMO.
That’s really great!!!
You have enough room for a full size spare
They never put a spare in the Hybrid to get better gas mileage for advertisement, less weight
That logic is like not putting any people or cargo in the car to save gas , lol
If you have a Winter set up like I do
Use the full size Winter tire as a Summer spare, and the full size Summer tire as a Winter spare
As I am not comparing these tires to each other
I'm comparing them to a donut
Also it's free, just sitting in your garage + 3 extra
You don't have to do the double tire change if you get a flat on the front, unless it's Winter and icy and want both Winter tires on the drive wheels, and for braking on ice too
You can drive at highway speeds, not 10 MPH below the speed limit, nervous about getting rammed in the back,
And drive for 50 thousand miles VS 50 miles, (exaggeration)
But if the next place that has the same tire as your car in stock or a service center period is over 50 miles away, it's all good
Also, I put a 2' length of pipe in the trunk to put over the wheel wrench for leverage, as it is to short, saves kicking it
Some people will say the full size spare is to heavy (about 15 pounds extra, not a big deal for mileage either)
If you're to weak to lift a full size spare out of the trunk, how are you going to lift the full size flat back in the trunk, as air doesn't weigh anything
If you do have mobility problems, you can just have a auto club put it on, and drive to the next service center VS being towed to some god forsaken place, where people tell you to squeal like a pig, lol (watch deliverance 1972 movie)
My 2019 touring was totaled last week. I have replaced it with a 2022 hybrid touring. I was able to harvest the spare and other associated kit materials and put it in the new car.
Sorry to hear about the older car. Congrats on the newer vehicle. Thanks for sharing. The tire rims are different sizes on the 2022 Hybrid Touring compared to the 2019 model. Did the spare tire from the other vehicle work?
@@netman88 I had 19 inch rims on the the 2019 as well.
I have a 2021 Hybrid EXL. Thank you for this. Ordering all of this today
I pickup my 21 EXL tomorrow, did this fit the 21?
Hey quick question, have you actually use the spare? I own a 21 base model hybrid and ppl @ dealer insured me that the spare on the list would not be operational in my car as regenerative brake system is too big. Please elaborate. Thanks.
Thank you, NM88. When ordering the parts it says these are not for my VIN, which I'm sure is because my 2019 Accord Touring Hybrid isn't supposed to come with a spare.
The only thing I'm double-checking is whether the insert (84542-TVA-A10), which looks wider than the original insert, will cause the trunk carpet to rise up.
Yes, the VIN for hybrid doesn't have a spare. The spare tire is not a full size spare. It should fit with the cover on. One can probably go to Honda dealer and test it out with a spare with a regular gas vehicle. IMO, I always want a spare just in case one gets a flat.
@netman88 Do you know if the spare tire from 2018 Accord work on accord hybrid model?
Yes it should work.
Just spoke with Honda customer service. They said not to put a spare in the spare tire compartment as it can rupture the hybrid batteries in a rear end Collision. This safety info was omitted from the owner’s manual, and Honda is working to fix the error.
The Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are very similar vehicles from different manufacturers. The hybrid batteries are now under the 2nd row seats. That maybe true for pre-2018 models. Personally, I saw a rear end accident on the newer Honda Accord, and the tire compartment with the spare tire was damaged. The whole trunk and spare tire area was changed. There's no rupture on battery. I guess CAMRY hybrid is the winner with a spare tire in rear. Don't buy Accord if you can't have a spare tire. Btw, I spoke to 3 other dealers around my area and they said it's okay to have a spare tire in the trunk on the hybrid in 2019 before I purchased it.
I got me a 2023 Honda accord hybrid. I was thinking of getting a donut and simple jack for my car. The last time I was @ the dealer, I asked the service consultant for advise on what size spare tire I should get. He mentioned the same size as the tires that I have now which are 19's. 1. I don't think that I could find a spare/donut that big and 2. If it's a reg size rim and tire, it will add weight. He also said that I could probably get a jack at the junk yard. I will look into the info that you posted because getting a flat @ 2am then waiting on roadside assistance is crazy. Thank you!
Check with Honda parts dept at dealer to confirm. Some parts dept will help you.
What part is the W-disk for $85?
I’ve heard the lack of a
spare in Honda’s hybrids justified like this: The hybrid battery is below the rear bench. In the event of a rear-end crash, the trunk may collapse, which could push the spare battery into the hybrid battery compartment. The added pressure on the battery could cause a battery fire.
That's not true, a truck had rear ended my Accord highway speed already. There was no fire, the vehicle held up very well. I had a spare tire kit in the vehicle also.
What is the bolt pattern?
Very helpful but I do have a question. Are these part numbers good for all models of the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid, LX through Touring? Thanks in advance!
I'm not sure. I thinking the LX has the 16" rims. Please check with dealer on spare tire size.
@@netman88 I have the 2019 Touring model, is this what you were also showing?

Will this fit on the 2022 hybrid touring that has 19” wheel.
Sorry, I’m not an expert in this and didn’t want to give wrong answer also. Maybe check with dealer or see if there’s a manual for this.
I own a 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid with the basic model, equipped with tire size 225/50/17. I've encountered conflicting information regarding whether the tire (135/80/17) shown in the video would be suitable for my car. Your insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
It should be.
@netman88 Does your Accord Hybrid have 17” tires?
Yeah
Well, my wife wanted the new 2020 cr v hybrid. She took it home Feb. 29th 2020. I can't believe there is no spare. Honda puts all these safety features in a car but if my wife gets a flat in timbucto she has to call a tow truck! Good luck in the desert out west. It baffles me, but we own the car. The cv r hybrid has a different set up then the accord, no room underneath cargo area, will probably have to put it where she puts groceries. Hoping someone else comes up with a better idea. This is my last honda.

will this work with a 2020 Accord Hybrid Touring edition?
I think so but you can check with Honda parts dept also.
You ordered a wheel and tire seperately. Did you hire the tire to be mounted on the wheel or did you install the tire to the wheel yourself?
I ordered the whole thing at the dealer. Dealer had the tire and rim setup already. I think there was a charge for it.
Will this work for a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid EX? & what website did you order these parts off of? Thanks!
It should work. It's really the same vehicle in 2019. I order parts from the nearby Honda dealer. The description has the details to help on that.
netman88 I can confirm that it all fits in the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid EX. Thanks for the help
how is your mpg now with the spare tires kit on board? thanks!
I just posted the video, I'll let you know in 1-2 weeks.
I drove it over a week and didn't see any major affect on the mpg.
did you think those parts would work on the Accord Hybrid Touring 2020?? I have a spare tire from my 2017 accord EX-L. I see the tire fits on the compartment but not the tool box
All the parts should work and fit in the Hybrid models but you'll need a new regular vehicle foam compartment piece though. I don't think Honda change the compartment on the Honda Accords from 2019. The foam piece plus other items are on the parts list that I put together in the description. It's worth the extra security to have a real spare kit instead of an air pump. Honda should sell this as an add on as well. More people will buy the hybrid cars. Thumbs up if this video helps. thanks.
netman88 right!! I feel more confident while driving knowing that I have a spare tire on my trunk and I don’t have to rely on the pump or the road assistance service. Because I have the other tools, I just need to buy the foam. I will call my dealer or visit a junk yard to see if I can buy only that or trade it 😛 thanks
netman88 quick update, I was able to order the toolbox foam from my nearby dealer and next day pickup, fitted great on my 2020 accord touring hybrid👌🏼
@@davida.delahozj.6318 Perfect, thanks for the follow up and enjoy your ride.
Will the spare tire also fit the 2019 Touring Hybrid
Yes, that’s the title of the video
Will this also work for a 2020 accord hybrid exl?
It should work
Does this tire work on 2022 honda accord sport with 19 inch wheels?
It should but always best to confirm with dealer
Anyone tried this spare on a Honda Clariry?
Thanks for the video. Advice: next time you do a video, try to avoid speaking at the same time as you are handling things and making noise; very often we can't hear you. Or else avoid catching the noise of what you are doing.
And newer?
I see there is no tire rim listed on your parts list. Also you would need to have the tire installed on the rim and balanced before storing it in the car.
It's in the description. It's a tire/rim kit together. 42751-GYR-053 TIRE, T13 (T135/80D17)
Will this fit a 2023 Accord Hybrid?
Probably best to check with a Honda parts department
Does this fit the 2020 hybrid LX?
If they are 17" rims, they probably would work. I don't have a LX to test to know.
Hi
I have a 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid.
Please Iam a female and I have Roadside assistance.
I am thinking of buying
spare rim
And the jack
I can buy a used tire to match size of rim.
The only reason Iam buying the jack its to screw the rim into trunk and not make that noise.
When I get a flat I call mercury roadside have them switch out my tire.
Do u see this feasible?
The lug nutz can be switched from the master tires being switched.
I can also go to autozone and do a price comparrison on cost and parts. Budget and save while troubleshooting!
It’s up to you to determine if feasible. Some people like to have a spare just in case it’s needed.
@@netman88 Hi,
my questions are several.
I don’t think I wrote my question in a manner that was understood. Does the delership sell the screw that bolts the rim into the trunk space? Does the delership sell only the spare rim?
I also understood from watching your video we can’t fit a regular size 17 inch rim and tire in our trunk due to lack of space and manufacture purpose for this was for gas mileage.
These are my questions
Thank you 🙏
Sorry for the mis communication
What is the size of the spare tire?
All details are in the description. (T135/80D17) is the tire size.
Hello, after watching your video i went to my diler, they said this set not gonna fit hybrid model. Could you please tell me if it actualy fits on your car and if you checked it befor putting in your trunk?
Yes, it fits. That dealership is clueless. It’s the same wheel well as the regular Accords. Use the parts list for all parts.
@@netman88 I was told the same exact thing about my 21 base model hybrid in regards to the parts from the list. Have you actually used the spare?
@@donbetosoy I used my new spare in the 2019 one time,
Yes I can confirm this fits my 22 ex-l hybrid like a glove. Just use the part numbers, he is spot on.
@@benjaminlebowitz6669 Thanks for comfirming
I'd verify that spare will actually fit in your rim..
I had a blowout today and damaged my rim. I went to my Honda dealership and ended up getting two different donut spares and neither of them fit. One, the bolt pattern was slightly too big. The second one, the bolt pattern was good, but the inside of the spare hit the brake caliper and you couldn't mount the spare properly.
Let me know if you test it
I have a 2019 hybrid touring. 17" rims
Yes, I tested it on my ‘19 Honda accord hybrid touring and it fits. I got a flat tire 1 week after purchasing the spare. I put the spare on and headed to the tire shop the next day. I was too lucky to have this spare.
@@netman88 Just so we are specific. Did you try it on the front? The front supposedly has larger brakes

Will a full spare fit in this space below the trunk floor? Ideally trying to avoid a doughnut. Can anyone confirm?
Don’t think it will fit full spare.
Easy check is to take a wheel off and throw it in the trunk to find out!
Where do I can get?
Check with Toyota Dealer or ebay
Were can I order it
Most likely have to be thru dealer.
Ya Honda doesn’t put a spare in there in case of accidents. It says it in the manual that if an accident were to occur and the rear end get smashed with a spare tire in the back, it could smash the batteries for the hybrid model. Causing a lithium battery fire which is extremely dangerous as your kids be trapped in the back of a flaming car. Ya I think I’m ok. I’m ok for the one off long trips but not permanent.
My Honda Accord Hybrid got smashed badly in an accident and no fire but the hybrid system was disabled. Body shop replaced the back tire area beside trunk. The battery is under the 2nd row seat btw. I used it for long commute also Honda doesn’t put the spare tire there to save money and weight.
@@netman88 Good to hear and glad nothing happen to you. It’s not a promise that it catches fire everytime it’s hit. It’s what can happen when you smash a battery and a spark is ignited. Look up lithium battery fires on teslas or Prius. It’s dangerous to the point that fire fighters just wait it out because it becomes explosive. It’s something Honda wanted nothing to do with. Smashing the tire into that battery isn’t helping and more so increasing the odds of this happening
Can someone just show how to unlock the damn spare tire from the trunk? Everyone shows it with the thing already off when in reality it’s a bitch to remove.
On the center of the wheel, just turn the black donut thing. It's not easy to remove.
That’s so wack… it’s $400 from Honda OEM but $300 from third party. This is the only down side to this car lol
