  • This individual Steak And Ale pie Recipe makes 4 delicious steak and ale pies. Each of these homemade pies weighs 200g and cost only £1.14. A simple steak pie recipe with a rich gravy and delicious melt in the mouth steak.
Here is a list of ingredients and the baking method.
    300g / 10.5oz Stewing Steak 2.78
    1 Onion 0.09
    1 stick of celery 0.06
I beef stock cube in 500ml water 0.12
    250ml ale 0.75
    Black pepper 0.02
    2 tsp Corn flour 0.08
    250g / 8.8 oz plain flour 0.12
    60g / 2 oz unsalted butter 0.44
    60g / 2oz Lard 0.12
    60ml Cold water 0.00
    Total cost 4.58
    4 pies at 1.14 each.
Dice the beef into small cubes. Fry until browned all over.
Remove from the pan and add the chopped onion and celery and fry until softened a little.
Boil the ale to get the gas out of it. Add the ale to the stuck cube and the hot water.
Put the beef back in the pan, pour in the ale and stock and simmer for about 1 hour 30 mins or until the beef is tender.
Remove about half of the liquid and save it for a delicious gravy.
Add the corn flour mix and stir in to thicken the liquid in the pan. When thickened, allow the filling to cool.
    To make the pastry.
Rub the fats into the flour along with the pinch of salt. Pour in the water and bring the pastry together.
Roll it in clingfilm and chill it in the fridge for about 30 mins.
Roll the pastry out, line the pie dishes and cut the tops.
Fill the pie cases with the beef and ale mix, put the lids on and egg wash.
Bake for about 25 mins in an oven at 180c / 350f / gas mark 4
Baking on a budget is all about making delicious food at a low cost and these individual steak and ale pies are just that. So if you want to know how to make steak and ale pie just follow the recipe above.

Tv would never allow him to be the David we have all grown to love to watch, I’d rather donate license money to all the RUclipsrs I watch. At the end of the day we all love how he keeps it simple and doesn’t use all the fancy stuff that tv chefs use.
Spreading the word and getting kids to watch the channel is a good start .

Here is a tip if you want to reduce the liquid in a recipe. Leave the lid off the pan and have an electric fan blowing across it. The steam will blow away rapidly and you can turn the heat up and it will not boil. This method will remove the excess water surprisingly quickly.

is it similar to "drunken stew" without potatoes? that's really good. When the plan is to freeze some of the pies, the chimney (steam release hole) becomes the initial of the filling. ie, S A. or C. or. T. steak n ale, chick or tourtieres. 😁
