Rome:TW had a cool feature where you could tour your cities. Not only did this provide the chance to see all the pretty sights but to help plan your defence/attacks. Sucks that they dropped this afterwards.

It would be Gold, i used to think, to be able to see How your city IS under lvls 1,2,3 and 4 and How EACH CULTURE afects it. This aesthetics would make the franchise more appealing and irresistible. Cities ARE a thing that disapoint me in recente TWs, because they proved with WARHAMMER that they can make bulky scenarios. I was murdered to see the lack of city Variety and features in ROME 2 when compared to MEDIEVAL 2. Come on, those high castled cities were the sensation! Why did they abandon that pursuit for majesty in later games? 😢

Anatolia in empire total war is unbelievably wealthy if you develop it right. It has more towns than any other region, and thus making every town a weaver's cottage means that you can get up to something crazy like 80 wealth increase per turn just from industrialization. Late game its somewhere near 3-4 times as wealthy as other regions other than like cherokee terroritory which only has one less region

The regional bonus allowing you to train more units is useful in the early game for sure, but not so much in the late game. In SP you don't need to train alot of units because the AI is easy to beat, and as you expand you will want to train your units closer to the enemy. If the enemy is in Asia Minor it's going to be a huge waste of resources training units in Italy rather than Greece/Thrace and having them move for an extra ~5 turns costing you valuable cash in upkeep.
Onion formation for open field without sploit. Get into a corner with a wall of lances And artillery vs aí. WhII pin down the enemy And shower them with flying Monsters/use dragon breath.

Athens is really OP as well, Carthage is ok if you can keep public order above megative a billion (my strategy is just letting it rebel and slaughtering or enslaving the pop again for a nice economy boost and a decrease in squalor)
Actually, in his most recent ME2 campaign as Venice, he conquered the whole map long before the Mongol show up and proceed to spam knights from the castles in the East he had so much time to build up. The tricks is to move fast before your neighbors had time to build up with generous donation to merc conpanies around to enlist their men and using OP unit known as General bodyguards. Try to keep as many men alive as possible as wasting men would delay your conquest sprees and eventually stop it as the enemies had time to build up and force your to slug it out
It goes down to playstyles. My point is not to have too many men defending ever. Soldiers are more valuable for conquest than sitting around, even with free upkeep very often. Rush them early, rush them hard, then never let up.
the way I controlled public order in rome 1 was I had an 'obedience legion' with 12 urban cohorts some siege and archers and then I'd remove the cities garrison and set tax to very high triggering a revolt in one or two turns then capture the city and exterminate populace not exactly efficient but works in the really late game

Here's a hard one Legend. Let's see a top 5 total war UNITS. 1 per game. Or you can make it a series, top 5 total war units for each game. I know I know in Medieval and Rome you work with what you have, but what if you can have anything?

Any christian that owns Axum. 100% chance to get the Ark of the Covenant. That's a free 10% morale damage and defense. 1. Charlemagne. You get events to: kill Karloman, get a claim on whichever kingdom his wife flees to, and a claim on Saxony. Then you holy war Spain for a decade or two. Then you press claims for the kingdoms that Karloman's wife didn't run to. Bonus: It takes no effort at all to get paris (you either assassinate or just revoke it from the De Chatenois (or whatever his name is)).

The thing to know about RTW Rhodes is that the bonus doesn't work properly and if I recall correctly it's not the only wonder that does not work as advertised. Zeus however does work.
I had The ancient city as high up there on settlements most valuable due to it's landmark but I didn't know what other cities could compete against it; not many.

imo Rhodes >>> Zeus. The way you deal with public order in RTW is recruiting peasants.... depending on your situation, you can effectively manage the process of colonizing new territory. Because, as you say, every city can have the same buildup... you can make a good economic powerhouse anywhere. Easiest example are the 3 cities in Nile Delta. They explode in population because of all the food resources there. This is great to expand city, gain access to later military tiers, and recruit those late tier units turn after turn. But eventually you have the armies you need... and the cities just keep growing... so you recruit peasants, send them to those desolate cities in N Africa -- I think there's 2 before you hit the Thapsus and Carthage pair, and then there's a few more below them. You move peasants across a region border and disband them, and that region gains the population. You can occasionally use this as a weapon too -- most useful against Gauls, Germans, etc. If you've got a spy in border cities (should be SOP) and notice their population is close to a tipping point... you can trip it early by disbanding peasants there. Flood a few more agents in to drop public order a little more and try to start a riot before they build the next town level. Ultimately managing settlements is all about recruiting and moving peasants around. Garrison benefits are only by pure # of troops - 120 peasants are better for public orderthan 50 cav. Easiest cheapest way to populate a garrison... keep the recruitment queue full of peasants (even if they're not recruited yet, it reduces pop #s), and then move them to your low pop and low growth% cities to build those settlements up and grow economy. 40% to naval trade in RTW.... there's just no touching that. So much of the game relies on naval trade. It's not uncommon in early-mid game to have more economy from trade than your own cities. And there's enough civs to always be trading with several far-flung partners.
I thought the rtw pick would be Patavium because of its beast growth rate, but then I realized that it has to be a wonder city, and the best wonder cities are Rhodes and Corinth
When he showed corinth I was stunned it wasn't Athens. Public order is of course important but Athens provides SO MUCH money through trade that it's easily #2. Also, public order doesn't matter if you don't have enough money to win wars.

Best settlement in Total War is clearly Roma in Rome 2 because it provides many warm bodies to fill the ranks of the army.

Another good settlement is the Naggaroth Vaul's Anvil which gives -10% upkeep for all units faction-wide for High elves and Dark elves.

imo Rhodes >>> Zeus. The way you deal with public order in RTW is recruiting peasants.... depending on your situation, you can effectively manage the process of colonizing new territory. Because, as you say, every city can have the same buildup... you can make a good economic powerhouse anywhere.
Easiest example are the 3 cities in Nile Delta. They explode in population because of all the food resources there. This is great to expand city, gain access to later military tiers, and recruit those late tier units turn after turn. But eventually you have the armies you need... and the cities just keep growing... so you recruit peasants, send them to those desolate cities in N Africa -- I think there's 2 before you hit the Thapsus and Carthage pair, and then there's a few more below them.
You move peasants across a region border and disband them, and that region gains the population.
You can occasionally use this as a weapon too -- most useful against Gauls, Germans, etc. If you've got a spy in border cities (should be SOP) and notice their population is close to a tipping point... you can trip it early by disbanding peasants there. Flood a few more agents in to drop public order a little more and try to start a riot before they build the next town level.
Ultimately managing settlements is all about recruiting and moving peasants around. Garrison benefits are only by pure # of troops - 120 peasants are better for public orderthan 50 cav. Easiest cheapest way to populate a garrison... keep the recruitment queue full of peasants (even if they're not recruited yet, it reduces pop #s), and then move them to your low pop and low growth% cities to build those settlements up and grow economy.
40% to naval trade in RTW.... there's just no touching that. So much of the game relies on naval trade. It's not uncommon in early-mid game to have more economy from trade than your own cities. And there's enough civs to always be trading with several far-flung partners.
I thought the rtw pick would be Patavium because of its beast growth rate, but then I realized that it has to be a wonder city, and the best wonder cities are Rhodes and Corinth
When he showed corinth I was stunned it wasn't Athens. Public order is of course important but Athens provides SO MUCH money through trade that it's easily #2. Also, public order doesn't matter if you don't have enough money to win wars.
