excellent work. thanks. I have had my R90/6 for 39 years, but love refreshing my memory and knowledge and you have helped!
Glad to help
Your videos are SO helpful. Clear detailed instructions. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
Just bought my first airhead (R75/7) and was not sure about the rear wheel removal procedure, this is super helpful, thank you!
I just got a R75/7 . I thought there would be gear oil in the hub of the rear wheel. There looks to be a drain and a fill hole. Maybe that was just too obvious to mention, idk, I am noob.
Thanks for another good video on another aspect of BMW Airhead maintenance.
Check the wheel bearings while in there. Balance the front/rear shoes on the front brake too. Nice job!
Thanks!
You can also leave the brake cable attached so you don't have to adjust the brakes when reinstalling the wheel.
Position of the front wheel brake lever isn't correct I think, you should have it 90° so to have the maximum torque when braking. Now it is on a sharp angle, so, not much torque on the lever, will have to apply a lot of force on the cable/handle bar lever. Reason why many owner complain about the drum brake at the front, it is a great brake system when adjusted right.
Helpful vid! I’m about to remove the rear wheel and drive to try to find my driveshaft bolts that disappeared 😢. Maybe a video showing some methods for dealing with this! Looks like a decent number of people have experienced it but I couldn’t find any videos.
Thank you for another very informative video! I suspect it is basically the same, but could you do a video for a wheel removal on a /2 BMW please?
yes its the same procedure, ill do it on a /2 next time I have one in for tires
Thanks for the good visual closeups in your videos. Please call parts by their names rather than "this here." I would be helpful when looking up parts or trying to explain something to some else. Would love to see more videos on /6 bikes. Electrical mysteries would be high on my list.
Haha good advice
Hi.....I searched for the small scissor jacks you were using on Amazon but could only find the larger versions that support the whole bike. Could you supply me a link for those? That would be much appreciated! Thank you.
Can you show an actual tire change on similar? I wanna see your procedure for changing actual tire. Balancing, mounting..etc
Is a 1982 r100RS a similar method to remove the wheels as this?
Looking forward to more videos with the R60/6
My next one will be fork seals!
its uploaded now
Is there a spacer on left side that could pop out when just changing the rear tire?
Great video 👍
Great stuff really helpfull thank you . Regaurds Michael
10/10 thank you. Save a little bit of cash when you bring the wheels to the shop instead of riding the bike.
Glad it helped
Great video!!!
Nice video, but NO need to remove the right side muffler. It's an Airhead, keep it simple. LOL
There's no need to remove the LH muffler either.
@@billwilson3609 I wasn't gonna say that, but on my 78 R100/7 before, I used to remove the mount bolts on the left muffler, then loosen the clamp and cock the muffler up and outward just enough. But I realize others may be a bit squeamish about that. Probably woulda removed it, but I was just lazy. LOL
The 2 minutes it takes to remove the exhaust saves you 2 minutes trying to get the axle out with the mufflers in the way.
@@TheBMWGuy Your LH silencer has the notch on the bottom that provides the open space for sliding out the rear axle. The owner's manual tells us to raise the back end by setting the shocks on the top pre-load (passenger w/luggage) to get the fender out of the way of the wheel and provide more clearance for removing/resetting the axle. The manual also doesn't mention screwing around with the brake adjusters on either wheel before removing them from their mounts.
@@TheBMWGuy - The whole procedure to remove the rear wheel takes less than 2 minutes. In 45 years of /6 & /7 airhead bike ownership, I have *never* removed a muffler or brake linkage to do this.
I was surprised to see that you are not using those annoying rubber gloves. One of my 7 BMW bikes is a 1971 60/5 and the gearbox has (what I suspect) a broken or very week centering (not sure what its correct name is) spring for the gear lever. Do you have any videos about 4 speed gearbox rebuilds? Thanks Paul
not yet!
Should have watched this first.. go to pick a part buy two scissor jacks from dead cars. Get a fat one to get under folded up center stand. I drop the tires and wheels off at the Harley place to be re skinned and balanced. Riding unknown or old rubber is a great way to get wrecked. Next it's brakes and fuel system.
