    I just want to say I really love the chess championship system. One would think that chess players would have picked something derived from the seemingly mathemathically perfect elo system with maybe a tournament a year to seal the championship. But no, instead we get a drama-filled tournament of candidates before they get to personally challenge the Champion, who might as well have a check patterned championship belt. It seems out of wrestling or an anime tournament arc.

      @@dan1RR Yeah, it's a drawback of having a championship title to defend, you can't really have the champion participate in tournaments made to challenge the champion.
      On the other hand, we get gems like Carlsen making drama from the outside saying he wouldn't play the championship match if the level isn't good enough for his taste. If I wanted to know who's most likely to be the best I'd pick a metric with elo plus high-elo tournaments. I'd rather have a tournament like this to spice things up.

    I agree Hikaru played a couple weird moves but I think you understated a little how well Radjabov played here. He's been having a rough tournament, but he had a strong draw (heading towards possible chances if Firouzja didn't repeat) yesterday and today he played fantastically. He was finding so many good moves and just punishing everything in Hikaru's position. People have been dunking on him a bit so it's good to see him remind people that he is one of the top guys in the world for a reason.

      @Devilfish6666 2 года назад +23

      @@lukacalov1988 He might be inferior to Carlsen but who isnt? And besides that, to say he is not even top 5 is ignorance. The guy performed stellar in every tournament in 2022 so far in classical and rapid, losing only to Carlsen in Airthings Masters finals (but also beating him in the preliminaries) and Abdusattorov in World Rapid Championship finals. His live rating right now is back to 2787 which makes him number 4 in the world and if he wins this tournament he might just surpass Caruana (who is just 4 points ahead) and even Ding as well to become number 2. He also was number 4 at his peak (May 2021) and at the moment, it seems nobody can beat him in classical or rapid but Carlsen who again beats everybody easily. So at this point in time, with the momentum that is going on and his performances in rapid and classical this year, Ian can be considered the second best player in the world right now in these time formats. ELO isnt everything as was shown by Kramnik vs Kasparov.

    • @LysergiCoyotl
      @LysergiCoyotl 2 года назад

      well he's only up one game so it literally would only take 1 round for him to drop to a tie for 2nd... I mean I think he'll win the way everyone is playing but it's still easily possible . ..

    • @jacobwalker8730
      @jacobwalker8730 2 года назад +1

      @@LysergiCoyotl it's not just the standings tho. It's his form, and the fact his closest opponent is also playing tremendously but 1. Can't catch him and 2. Just missed his best shot to do so.

    • @LysergiCoyotl
      @LysergiCoyotl 2 года назад

      @@jacobwalker8730 Standings is how 1st and 2nd place are determined. I literally said I understand his form makes it look highly likely that he wins but all it takes is a single round where Nepo loses and Fabi wins and it's tied. That's all I'm saying is you can't say Ian is 'running away' with it when it's still possible to change in a single round. 'Running away' would be if he's up 2 or more with less than 5 games remaining or something.
