Your explanation of what he does is only possible because you know a lot and can see how it fits together. why didn't Jorden just play Ne4 after Magnus' Ng4 @3:32? That's blocking the attack on the Queen and after dxe4 you can take a Knight back with hxg4? Sacking the Queen is a horrible move no? And blocking the attack on the Queen with your Knight is not that hard to see. I'm confused
When others think that they reached Magnus level then Magnus goes up beyond unreacheable for other human level. He just understand chess like no one else before.
I was watching this video with my sister sleeping next to me, and when she woke up she told me she dreamed about Magnus, you being in a private school and even a bishop and a pawn blocking the knight like in the Alireza game. You make chess so interesting that even if it's another language and even if people are sleeping, they will still hear you. A big hug from Italy❣️🇮🇹
To me, this recalls the memory of playing my father as a kid. Always trying to play very solid, theory like moves I wasn´t really sure of at the time. But he would crush me like a bug the same way Carlsen crushes here. I guess it was by being passive at that time (I didn´t know what to play) and not attacking which I do a whole lot nowadays. Iˇve beaten him recently in a Scandinavian defense where he slightly miscoordinated his pieces in the opening (or I thought he did) and i somehow got down a piece but came up with a knight fork out of nowhere winning my rook back because how his king was placed. That is why you should always play your own style of chess. Like I only play my own variations that I can understand in like Center game or Caro -kann and not some Ruy Lopez I don´t resemble that much about. Because you know when you play something deep with a lot of understanding, there´s gonna be someone who knows even more than you do. And that is I think the lesson here. I wonder how many people found out about chess the same way i did playing against my dad. Just my sincere opinion.
As a chess player, as much as I would like to play or learn from any one of the top players, it will be hard to decide on one if given a choice. But with Magnus, it is almost obvious.

I love how you manage to get insights from these games. It's like every game is entire story.
"Mad!!" Magnus crazy good against the best! Super recap highlighting his mastery. Its going to be interesting watching him into 2023 when there is a new WC. Thanks for the hard work!!
Magnus: DISCOMBOBULATE!
Sherlock: I approve.
At 20:38, in game 5 you had the best opportunity for a "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me" reference.
I am from Croatia, met Carlsen and others irl
Love the chael sonnen reference. Absolute gold. Great video thank you sir
What better person to make a video about a semi-retired GOAT than a semi-GOAT retired
Your explanation of what he does is only possible because you know a lot and can see how it fits together. Finding ways to do it in your own game is a leap that a lot (if not all) of us need to do to really put our knowledge to work. GM Larry Christianson (sp) said we all have greater theoretical knowledge than we can demonstrate. Some do it better. Great video. Thanks.
I was wondering when you were gonna post a recap of this tournament
How savage would that be if Magnus made it into the Candidates next time it takes place and won his title back from whoever wins it this time. Provided, of course, Fide allows him to become a world champion again :)
It's most likely to happen ☠️
If he's not motivated enough to prepare for the WCC match why would he do this to himself again?
@@al_gusto Magnus should just win the candidates because its a more fun tournament than the actual wc match and then not play wc lol-
@@al_gusto Idk, it just seems like a very Magnus thing to do. To make that sort of a statement. "If i want it i can take it back, because I'm the GOAT". Maybe he's not motivated to defend his title now. But perhaps he could be motivated to do this. Besides he's not quitting chess, he still wants to get to 2900, so he's going to have to play these guys anyway
Honestly you should make videos about all the greats like Carlsen, Kasparov, Fischer, etc.
I agree. A suggestion could be to make one video about each of the greats (for example Morphy and all of the official world champions)
The wife and I got into a pretty bad fight, so this video is timed really well to watch and have some space atm. Thanks! Love the Content as always brother
Divorce
Yo 🔥ruclips.net/video/rdJ9bsN7JAw/видео.html
beat her up
@@wolfgangsell3233 agreed you have enough queens on the chess board don't need more irl
That seems like a critical blunder, stockfish don't like It at all
your work ethic and your ability to explain chess games to every level of player is truly astonishing. you brought me back to chess after playing only a few games with my dad in my childhood. i started a month ago fell to 300 and now i am back to 600. and i am truly enjoying it. thank you for your content! greetings from germany
why didn't Jorden just play Ne4 after Magnus' Ng4 @3:32? That's blocking the attack on the Queen and after dxe4 you can take a Knight back with hxg4? Sacking the Queen is a horrible move no? And blocking the attack on the Queen with your Knight is not that hard to see. I'm confused
Honestly the stuff Magnus plays looks like what I play. The difference, I have no clue what I’m doing 😂
When others think that they reached Magnus level then Magnus goes up beyond unreacheable for other human level. He just understand chess like no one else before.
19:28 you sounded like spongebob for a bit haha
If I were paired against Magnus, I'd pretend to have covid.
the F7 knight 20 minutes in is like "im not trapped in here with you your trapped in here with me!!"
I don’t actually watch your videos I don’t even like chess I just watch your videos because your voice is nice while I cube
Man was waiting for something like this, thank you!
1:45 chess beginner here, what is the purpose of this king b1 move?
Can never wrap my mind around the fact he has the same exact pieces as me but its like he's playing a different game altogether.
"Can't Get close like Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva" LOL! What a random reference to get. One of the best RUclips channels ever.
Magnus started off pretty badly but resurged much stronger. Typical Magnus things!
Love your animated commentary
I was watching this video with my sister sleeping next to me, and when she woke up she told me she dreamed about Magnus, you being in a private school and even a bishop and a pawn blocking the knight like in the Alireza game. You make chess so interesting that even if it's another language and even if people are sleeping, they will still hear you. A big hug from Italy❣️🇮🇹
The MVL-Carlsen Sicilian line is top line of the engine with a few move order tweaks it isn’t niche !
Magnus in the title is back
"He freeeezes the enemy pieeeeces" that was good!!!
3:10 26. Ng4 was a mistake because of 26. ... Ne4!
Not the best example of cold blooded calculation.
Ne4 is pretty not possible
The constant Chael Sonnen references keep me coming back 😂😂😂
quote of the day at 25:14. Knights are too slow and too clumsy, they trip over each other😂😂😂
After watching this magnus has a point of changing format of fide world champion
as a fellow mma fan i must say i appreciate the sonen silva comparison
In first game i cant believe i saw most of the moves
Yo gotham, you're prolly not gonna see this but you've been a huge help to my chess skills, I was 1st in my first ever tournament. most of it was for your help thank you, really.
All these games illustrate the same point: the power of passed pawns
will you make a video about alis performence today?
Lmfao "Good defense, better offense"
Gothem: He's really good at baiting his opponents
Me instantly in my head: Masterba!ter
Didn’t think I’d ever hear a Mark Jackson reference in a Gotham video about Magnus but “Mama, there goes that man”
It feels like Magnus plays in a style of a computer
the thing with chess is that there are objectively best moves
That's simply because Magnus is the closest thing there is to a computer
@@sub.consciousnz1312 i agree. Its just that he always finds them. Moves with long-term pressure and control of important squares, rather then going for a tactic. He is a master of strategy and it feels very abstract.
Nepo in candidates: I am better than the rest.
Magnus: Really? Come on.
Sir, your passion and analysis had me doubly enjoy the video!! You are very entertaining chess reader and I respect your dedication!! Thanks Levy, love and hugs from Iraq!! Just want to add that currently Magnus is the only player who can play like a virtual chess engine but still doesnt lose his unique ability on the board as a human, yes that is why he is my all time favourite chess player despite my mighty admiration for Tal, Capablanca and Karpov
Topalovs mistake was trading bishops for knights. It was a decisive game because everyone just wanted it over.
It really incredible that Levy with a 1.5m sub still getting 300k+ views on every videos doing chess content. It’s surreal this many people are active!
So I guess you could say Magnus is a... (shotgun pump sound effect) master baiter. (Duke Nukem theme)
Let's go another banger vid from gotham!
Magnus is real dominance
