I’m glad levy is comfortable putting Hikaru’s game first knowing we will watch the whole video
nop just watching hikaru have a good day
@@GravelGamer33 me too, just finished watching Hikaru, I will now look at the comments a bit and then exit the video.
Lmao
Who cares about Hikaru. He is washed out and pretty garbage.
@@znachwd2015 yeah i'm pretty sure you'd easily beat him if you were in that tournament right
Some people would have said dome, some might have said bunker, others might even have said bubble, but Levy was always a special child so he went with “reverse bathtub”
reverse bathtub sounds stronger than all of those
@@msaa1125 its definitely attention grabbing
if you are playing the board as black it is a reverse-reverse-bathtub and it looks like the opponents king is taking a bath. Avert your eyes!
I'd just call it a hat or cap or something like that
I guess the right word would be 'inverted' rather than 'reversed'.
Grischuk is on another level, he dont have prepared any openings but he have prepared every variant after move 15 ;)
bro hes a sigma among betas

Rapport's king, in the middle of Fedoseev's attack: "Okay, let's do this. LEEEROOOOOOOOOYYY JEEEEEEENKINS"
Stupid spoiler
@@Red-cr4oo in what world is that a spoiler?
Superman dies
@@Red-cr4oo in titanic the ship sinks
Iconic comment, to be fair he didn't know it'd be top comment when he posted
Grischuk is like a 90s internet connection. Takes forever to load up but then the game plays fine with no lag once it finally loads up
Grischuk is a god of bullet whilst seemingly being the worst player to play bullet
"Oh wow grischuk with white already spent 45 second whilst his opponent only spends 10" 1-0
He has lots of practice playing really fast!
He's somehow the fastest and the slowest at the same time
Grischuk is the anime character who dodges his opponent atacks with unimpressed face during the whole battle and only in end uleahes his full potential. I wait his game with Hikaru so much
Hikaru's getting close to my rating I need to start playing chess again...
Bossman
And the magnooos guy wants to be 2900 . Boss please come back and teach these bozos to have limits 🙏
"yea this was an interesting game they played the berlin"
*stares at the camera silently*
I laughed so hard at this LOL
Naturally, you play the Berlin when you're in Berlin ROFL.
"No it was actually interesting they didn't trade any pieces"
Shows the players trading pieces 😂
Rapport is a great dude. Met him at STL rapid and blitz and he was awesome. Always love when he has a great game.
C++ standard template library???
Levy: "All of this has been seen before"
Me, who doesn't remember any openings and only watches chess through Levy and Hikaru:
Oh yes, of course, I think I remember this one 🧐
Thats so cringe
@@sk8chucky123 I agree
ℯ
Here to remind you this cringe comment 10 months later
I think if a player withdraws from the Candidates he is replaced by the highest rated player by elo (which would be Ding). So Hikaru could do it if he qualifies
Rapport is such a treat to watch. Whatever the result maybe, his games are so interesting and his creativity is just incredible. WHAT A PLAYER!
Rapport and Shakh are my favs about creative games and dynamic positions
@@_A-B_ same I love Shakh
@@_A-B_ I also like Dubov
@@matthies8431 Except Dubov is not an elite player
Hikaru didn’t promise anything, he said he might, you never know and gain a million social credits. But he said it’s probably not possible and still 50/50
Not only did he not promise anything, he didn’t even say it’s 50/50. He said there is a nonzero probably, so it could be 0.000000000001%, etc
i would not characterize what hikaru said as a promise.
That Rapport game was so hauntingly beautiful, I almost forgot Hikaru had won!
“Parents are supposed to love their children equally, sometimes I’m not so sure?”
Do you need to tell us something Levy? You can talk to us, this is a safe place. XD
I knew that RUclips viewers were the favorite child
"This is a safe place" - my dude Chaz, February's 5th, 2022
Levyboy, I'm a huge fan of yours but Hikaru didn't promise anything of the like. Someone in the chat came up with the idea and he said: that's a funny idea, you know what, if I do win the Grand Prix I might consider giving up my spot for Ding. Then he also mentioned that FIDE probably wouldn't allow it anyways
spartakulpboy thanks for clearing that up
@@Eufamis clear what up? lol his comment did not change anything
@@williamrobert9898 I was being sarcastic. I guess it didn’t come across well typed out
@@Eufamis oh sorry didn't realise it my bad
Dude i'm hooked on your recaps, you make chess so fun for me, and your "lingo" is understandable and relateable, and its reallt helping me get my friends into chess when i'm teaching them
I love how everyone was saying hikarus is "washed", is afraid to play classical and can only play bullet onstream and how they cant wait till he plays a tournament and gets smashed and hikaru just shows up and shuts them down with such a statement of a game. i remember how chat went crazy when he found that bishop f6 tactic
All I remember is getting scammed by Bok when he found bxf6
@@Sympanet smh benjamin scammed us so hard
The expression is "washed up". =)
Exactly like that
@@TheHadMatters i think “washed” works too. whether it be “washed up” or “washed out” it still serves as a shortened version of these
That Rapport-Fedoseev fireworks show (Game 7) among all these "strategic first round draws" was refreshing. It went all UNO +4 CARD pretty fast.
32:22 okay this was actually DOPE!
That's such a classy move by Hikaru. I feel bad for Ding, he's had such a rough time recently.
I just feel like it a bit necessary to mention that he might do it and it's a possibility but yh nice move by hikaru and would be great if he did
Assuming he does win, and i do think he is far from a favorite given the other competition (especially Levon in this tourny), it would be a great gesture for him to do. We all know Ding deserves a seat at the candidates
And people say Hikaru is arrogant. Obviously he doesn't want to play in the Candidates, but he has no need to do this.
It’s nice of him but I still think he is annoying/arrogant on stream. His chess is great, his personality isn’t, in my opinion
Rapport is a Don, his mind sees things no other GM would think about. Very exciting and unpredictable to watch 🔥
Most recent high-level Pirc I found was Yu Yangyi - Magnus Carlsen at the St Louis Rapid in 2019. Most recent classical game was Evgeny Tomashevsky - Teimour Radjabov, coincidentally also in the Grand Prix (Palma de Mallorca 2017). There might have been others I missed though.
thanks
This Hikaru guy is too good for a guy who blunders his queen in 10 moves.
These games are played well above my level of understanding, but love to hear the recaps. Thank you
hear, hear!
"Out of nowhere it's the white rooks bullying the king, the black king.. it's not the black rooks bullying the white king"
-Levy, 2022
I would like to see it, no doubt Hikaru one of the most entertaining GMs i have ever seen
I love your enthusiasm and humor and your obvious love of the game. Well done!
The Nh3 Nimzo was probably in Shankland's notes in the folder "Rapport's random BS"
lol
Hikaru said: "knights move in the J shape right chat?"
Rofl omg the exact thing that Hikaru seemingly said about offering Ding the spot is what I dreamed I would do if I was a super GM and won the Grand Prix a few days ago^^
No way gtfo man xD
Man, Grischuk is such a mad man🤣🤣🤣
Hikaru in the thumbnail looks like he is saying "Gonna Cry?" 😂
If Hikaru wins and gives up his spot to Ding then istg I'll never trash talk about him ever in my life
Fck that I want Magnus - Hikaru WCC more than the world.
@@AmericazGotTalentYT but nowadays Hikaru focuses more on short duration formats than classical. Also he has come to accept that he cannot beat Magnus in classical format for WC. Ding on the other hand is in his prime and doing extremely good in classical chess. Hikaru here is definitely choosing chess over himself which I've great respect for.
19:41 it might not be the last time two 2700s played a Piertz defense but Kramnik played one in the last round of the 2013 candidates against Ivanchuk.
I now suspect the mauve sweatshirt was a gift from someone he loves, so he wears it in every video.
Wow Hikaru, you gotta give him props.
Beautiful win by Hikaru, what a comeback!
That Hikaru game was pretty cool. His pawn strtructure fort around his king was weird, but it worked out so well.
You know hikaru's just a *DECENT* player so I'll let it pass.
For anyone who doesn't understand, when Magnus was asked to describe Hikaru he called Hikaru 'decent.'
I mean, being decent for Magnus's standards is a compliment
@@verytrue9 no, not if you are a super GM. Its not really an insult either.
@@Rise6474 and 'annoying' too!
@@seife41 Magnus' dad said after the recent world chess championship, "it seems my son has become a decent chess player".
Looking forward to round 3, thanks for the coverage
Rapport did a Nigel Short King Walk, pretty cool. I also like Naka's offer to Ding, very brave.
Full coverage, go to place for summary, a lot to absorb, (appreciate the work involved), looking forward to next round here. Hikaru, a disturbance in the force?
This Hikaru player is pretty good, must be at least 1400 elo
Saw him playing people around that rating on stream the other day. He kept blundering his queen tho.
4:42 I see levy's practice on his twitch chat impersonation is paying off well
Loving that you show games
"A lot of ado about nothing". That's the stuff i love! Great recap as ever
going to the last game without getting screamed at. not what im here for..
Love your videos got me back into chess
Videos are getting better in quality! I'm sure a lot of work took on making this deep analysis
Levy Hikaru said it's not a 0 percent change that he would give ding his spot. He definitely didn't say he will do it 100%
It's not really up to Hikaru anyway. He can drop out of the challenger tournament, but it's entirely up to FIDE how they fill his slot.
He said it is 0% FIDE allows it to happen. Stop being a donut.
19:35
Levon Aronian vs Hikaru Nakamura, 2018 Gibraltar Chess Festival 1/2
Tomashevsky vs Radjabov, 2017 Grand Prix 1-0
Jon Ludvig Hammer vs Anish Giri, 2015 Norway Chess 1/2
Vasif Durarbayli vs Gata Kamsky, 2014 Europen Club Cup 1-0
obviously, we all remember Ivanchuy vs Kramnik, 2013 Candidates 1-0
Duda, Wang Hao, Matlakov, Vitiugov, Ponomariov, Caruana, Carlsen, Nepo played it against 24-2500s
note: I searched those games in the quiet line only, there are more games in the f4 line
Normal players gambit pawns, patzers gambit pieces, Grischuk gambits his entire time.
Last Pirc I remember perhaps was that Ivanchuk/Kramnik game in 2013 that got Carlsen into a WCC vs Anand in the last round.
That bishop sac was so amazing
I always get a chuckle when I watch your videos, seeing the back of your head bobbing around in the mirror behind you :)
ja i had this notion of Hikaru: he is one of us...
"It's never to late to blunder something completely horrible..., but remember, they're not submitting for Guess the Elo."🤣🤣
Oh yeah i saw that video and I am rooting for hikaru to win. Dings story is so crazy it will be a movie on netflix if hikaru wins
4:00 Laser Beam Criss Cross Apple Sauce.
I saw the title and first thing came to my mind was: "well, its not the first time"
kudos to levy for bringing us this hilarious chess recap lol
Ding would never every acceppt this offer.
kramnik played the pirc at the 2013 candidates against ivanchuk
Its been a while without a GTE episode,we miss it ;)
People: Hikaru sucks at chess
Hikaru: okay lol
“Where Magnus”
@Levi “sometimes-sometimes im not so sure” 💀
Hikaru said it was 50% chance to give ding his spot if he wins
4:52 You got it. Let's keep this as a secret
Rapport should be a this moment the most fun guy to watch in the top 100, literally he play every game to win (or lose).
yup, now that we can't have Ding, Rapport is who I want to see in the candidates
Hikaru GIGACHAD
Thanks for the recap!
14:14 that´s called tarrasch defense main line, one that rubinstein created long time ago, not reversed grunfeld
last time I was this early, Levy was still unmarried
Aka, “another Tuesday for Hikaru”
Grischuck's time management is legendary
I think there was a Pircs defense not long ago maybe this years or finals of 2021
grischuk is a certified savage
"It's better that microphone flashes on me than flashes me in general" - Levi Rozman
lewd...
Rapport is so freaking cool man
That Rapport game was absolutely insane!
That statment is to mind game... he will never give his spot to ding comon he is not gone there to play clasical for fun..
Would a super gm be able to hold a draw vs Stockfish in that Aronian Dubov endgame?
Did you see that Andrey could have played b5 himself and the engine says dead draw
Hikaru and Rapport are my faves this round. Such a creative and interesting game. Props to Sasha too by playing my fave opening for black, surviving such a difficult position while low in time is insane.
Fedoseev: "I hang you on the verge of death... Got any last words?"
Rapport: "Good grief... You have lost this battle... when you fight.....
" KH4."
Ding was cheated off an opportunity, I support this from Hikaru the king of juicers and now also sportsmanship
I like these Nimzo Indian lines where you first look at your white-squared bishop and think its boxed in by its own pawns, and then you play the game and its the black light-squared bishop that looks stupid on its long diagonal and can't do anything, because your pawns control the center and the whole board.
8:25 little reverse bathtub 😂😂
It is possible though that if anyone pulls out, they award the place to the highest rated player which would be Ding after Carlsen and Firouzja. Though I think they is an additional rule that you must have played in 2 out of 3 candidate-choosing tournaments: World Cup/ Swiss/ Fide GP.
So fun watching Rapport play 🔥
That Rapport game was high tech. Jesus Christ.
My god that Rapport game has got to be one of the coolest games I've ever seen....
That would be a very nice gesture by Hikaru. Nor sure he'll be in a position to do that however.
He don't love us like he love twitch, we're side hussle.
Knight H5- Edgy...lmao punny
Nh3 is exactly what can be found in Shanklands “Rapport Random Bullshit” opening prep.
