i really wanna be a forensic psychiatrist or just a psychiatrist in general. im only in 9th grade but i find mental health super fascinating, its so cool how the human brain can work and make you act,talk or do certain things. i think mental health is super big issue right now and i really wanna make a change and help people i know it sounds super cliche, but i wanna help people with mental health disorders and change lives for the better. i also really wanna work in law to i think its super important to protect the truth so i think forensic psychiatry will be a good fit for me ! :)
Same I’m in the 9th grade too. I find psychiatry really interesting . Especially how psychiatric medications affect the brain.
@@geovannibryant8250 exactly!!! i have mental disorders myself such as adhd,BPD,ocd,MDD & cptsd! i get medication & talk therapy for all of them!! & i find it interesting how medication can calm my symptoms or help me in a very positive way :)))

Hello guys! I'm a med student interested in psychiatry. One of my main concerns is that I'm afraid of becoming less of a doctor and more of a shrink if I do choose to become a psychiatrist. Have you ever thought about that? Am I the only one that has this concern?
Don’t worry, everyone has that worry!! I’m 4 years into psych training and trust me, I don’t feel that I’m less of a doctor at all. I think if a psychiatrist ‘forgot’ medicine then they would basically be a crap psychiatrist. Remember that people who present with neuropsychiatric problems can have an underlying ‘medical’ cause and it takes an excellent doctor to strike the balance between ignoring worrying signs/symptoms and sending everyone who has mild depression for an MRI.
And let’s be honest, sitting in a nice office and getting paid to sleep on a night shift is waaaay better than pounding around a general hospital all damn night chasing after 600 elderly patients in heart failure.
Hey! I want to echo what impulsive eddy replied. I definitely had that worry as well during medical school but the more I was exposed to psychiatry, the more I learned how important it is to know some medicine in order to be a good psychiatrist. We actually made a video about debunking myths about psychiatry where we talk about this as well. There is still some medicine involved within psychiatry so I wouldnt worry too much about losing this aspect of it if you pursue psychiatry!
How do Psychiatrists in training argue?
