The Construction Manual there is the one I had and has great graphics and such. Problem with it is that it doesn't create balanced ship scenarios. The 2nd edition book created a combat value that unified all chips across tonnage and adversary. I love this book, but for creating new ships, don't use it. They won't work against each other. To supplement ship battles for 1st edition, get the Starship Tactical Combat Simulator box set with ship artwork and steel-blue border; not the Star Trek III combat box set with 'Search for Spock' frame grab for cover.
I should also note that if you want to play film era Trek, go with the 2nd edition of this game. If you want to play the TV show or cartoon era, go with 1st edition. The difference is subtle, but the flavors are distinct.
Had this and all the source books way back when. Beautiful system and had as much fun creating the characters as playing them.
