Me: “okay. I’m content with my room. Let’s call it finished.” Smugglers Room: (uploads a beautiful cabinet) Me: “Well, maybe just oooone more build wouldn’t hurt.” 😁
Man, you've mastered the exact weathering look of star wars, where many fall short. Thats the aspect that separates your builds as truly star wars feeling
Looking pretty good! I have loved the Star Wars 'look' from the very start. I sat in the theater watching it with friends back in '77 and was blown away by the art even then. I went back by myself to watch that first movie six more times. Not so much for the story, but to soak up the feel, the aesthetics of the world that Lucas and his team of people had created. It was so different from all of the clean, chromium and silver lamé that sci-fi had fed us up till then. The world of Luke and Obi-Wan was a lived in world filled with stuff that was used and repaired (or not) and looked real. I would turn my house into such a place from another galaxy but my wife thinks it already looks like such a place from this one 🙄 .
Today I learnt how to make your dream a reality piece by piece and cabinet by cabinet! I learnt the key to make your dream come true. I loved how you are converting your workshop into your dream workshop by implementing one idea at a time. Thank you, for sharing.
I like the use of the "server rack" style pulls on the drawers, makes your electronics cabinet look more like a tech bench, keeps the pulls out of the way when you're leaning on the cabinet, and frames the drawers nicely!
Probably the most functional piece, aside from the spray booth, that I’ve ever seen with the Star Wars theme! And what a way to make a mistake part of the story telling process! You really made this build look awesome! Oh and the backstory was appreciated. It shows us that we can be human and still crank out a great project!
Great project Brian. And I love the transparency on the inspiration piece, the hows and why’s of so many things in this episode. It really helps for those traveling on the same road,…just a bit further behind
I know this took a lot of time for both of you, but I am thankful for the fun, quality video/content you made! Thank you Brian and Carissa! Both the video and the cabinet look amazing!
Sometimes accidents like the orange peel turn into happy mistakes, you did GREAT job subtly weathering it to your advantage. I think its human nature to start to rush when a project starts coming together you get more anxious to see it complete. But as master Yoda would say " Do not give in to the dark side of chaos- stronger you be".
As a cabinet make and woodworker by trade, I can appreciate this and also so that is is kinda what I’m planning on making all of my cabinets look like in my shop. Just gotta find the right designs to work with though lol!
Like usual, you knocked it out of the landing bay. Awesome build dude! I love how your shop is starting to look like it belongs in a hangar nook on some outer rim planet.
I could watch this episode on a loop all day and still not get bored. This was amazing. Thank you for all the work that you did, and for documenting all the details.
LOVED this episode! It’s an awesome piece to add to the shop. The rambling worked well, as it gives us insight that we otherwise don’t see on camera. Keep in some rambling when editing, Carissa! 😆
I agree - great teamwork on this! Carissa, thanks for your essential work videoing and editing, mostly behind the scenes.. a role as creative and key as Brian's on-camera labours (and antics!) I love the warmth and humour you two bring.. so down-to-Earth and human with your approach to that galaxy so far, far away!
It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.
Fantastic build I to am easily distracted from schedules and can’t seam to shake that !! I have come to realize that the distraction is really just creativity never stoping. That sparks excitement thus sparking the I want it now atmosphere!!
I'm with you man. For months i have been apologizing for moving between projects but the reality is, i do this for fun. I want to explore creativity and not be held back. The the moral of the story is, if you want build a cabinet . . . build a cabinet! LOL
Rambling? Nah; you're sharing! I found it valuable to hear what drove your decisions. I also learned I'm not alone in respect to some of what pulls you in different directions. I thought you were doing very well with weathering, and bringing in colors that don't occur intuitively is entering mastery. Level up! I was inspired by the addition of the non-mineral colors. Finally, you are right, your shop has been becoming a room build. Kind of like a visit to Adam's shop, I'd probably stare at a lot of items before getting to work.
Oh Man! "Clearly I have an issue!" I have a 2' x 4' build table. I literally covered the thing in LASER cut greeblies and parts then sorted 'em back into a stack 'O tupperware. Took me 2 months to put my bolts into cans. I feel your pain brother.
Just discovered the channel absolutely love it and am inspired I'm in the begining phases of doing a star wars themed workshop in my garage and these videos are going to help so much
I love the rambling style content. It shows the true struggles we makers face daily in our shops, at least I know I do! I love the drawers! Great work! I've used the DeWalt portable storage cases with modular inserts and made drawers that hold them, so that I can still remove the cases when I need to take them somewhere.
Wow! 26 seconds in and I had to pause the video to compliment your cinematography. I love the pullout shot and the story your telling. Okay, back to the video!
Really enjoyed to build and the inclusion of the background story. The fact that you’ve highlighted a ‘mistake’ and then utilised it in the build was a great touch. Your whole workshop is starting to come together nicely as both functional yet visually interesting and certainly inspires myself to attack my own workshop with renewed gusto.
The build is awesome as usual. The details are spot on. I struggle with adding extra things in as well. Schedules, while great for channels and RUclips analytics, aren't the greatest and most inspiring for the creative minded. We need the spontaneity sometimes. Being able to envision something and just go with it are important to keep from getting burned out. To keep us from feeling like our creative passions are no more than just another job. Gotta keep that balance. Great build!
Great build video, Bro!!! Love the use of foam core as cabinet dividers! Thank you for the inspiration and motivation to organize my electronics, which are currently a hot mess...LOL!!! 😂
Another great build and entertaining video! I always learn something new, when I watch your videos. My shop wants to be just like your shop when it grows up.
Thanks so much for the rambling bit. 😂 I never knew about the orange peel effect. I just started wood working about a year ago and not sure why, as a huge Star Wars nerd, it just occurred to me that my personal builds could reflect my love for that universe. Loved this build!
Foam core is perfectly fine for drawer organization. I use it all the time in board game boxes. I love making things with foam core. One day builds rarely take only one day.
Great build, have been reading Adam Savage everything is a hammer and just read the part about storage and his felling on drawers not long ago. Need to use the foam core on my work space drawers.

Thank you!
Every video you make blows me away. I think your channel is the only star wars one that gives me that same magic feeling I get when I watch the movies and it really inspires me. Watching this channel has really inspired me to make a few star trek and star wars" functional art" into my computer chair, desk and surrounding wall where my pc and ps5 are, and stuff that I would love to share with you once it's done. I know you are a pretty busy guy. For a quick video, I would enjoy an Awesome Shop Tour. Maybe it will give other shop dwellers like myself ideas for their projects at our build ground zeros.
Absolutely love this Brian! Your shop is so inspiring and is definitely another "Room Build" in my book! Thanks for sharing the tips and backstory as well!! I have had that Orange peel happen on a couple of my builds... still love the way it turned out! Great work my friend!
Makes me want to build. I appreciate you admitting your mistake, and giving ideas to use it in the final build. I'm also a rush type person, and so occasionally I'll make an oops, usually I'll notice right away and fix. Doesn't always work out that way, so incorporating a mistake into final product works out even better. Thank you.
That's one thing that I do not like about my workshop. Its a workshop. You are right about yours coming alive and it looks great. I'm soon going to have to bite the bullet and clean up. This video was different but appreciated. Thanks Brian and Carrissa!
I was just at Michael's today and they had 2-packs of black (chalkboard) foam core on clearance for $3.00, and I thought, what a great price but what would I use it for?! And here you are making dividers out of it! I would have never thought of that! Guess I'm gonna have to treck back to Michael's now! Thanks for the great idea, as usual!
If I had to describe your work shop in only 2 words, I would say "Functional Art". I will absolutely be referencing your project videos when I plan out the design of my workshop.
I appreciate you sharing the discovery process and the fact that not everything is planned. Also, who cares if you do it your way and not how a cabinet builder will. It looks like it worked quite well. Ironically, I was looking at the cabinet in my maker room and thinking about decorating it… then this video hits my feed. Kismet?
Beautiful. And thanks for the orange peel advice. I never thought to warm up my paint. I always chalked it up to me rushing the job. One of these days I'm gonna convince you to NOT weather your beautiful projects. Lol.
While it is not the sort of project that I would build, I think that you have done very well and it fits into your shop and provides increased functionality. I enjoyed you explaining your thought process and changing build ideas. Meanwhile I am trying to find an interesting build to do for Star Wars Day.
Oh oh! One thing I saw that you could do to add more storage is that I saw that some of your drawers are deep, but are filled shallow. You could make a drawer within a drawer to maximize the space that is unused. Just some thing to think about if you need more room. Anyway, cabinet guy going nuts lol
A very creative and inspirational video as always 👏👏 Also I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one who is impatient, work on many things at the same time and make some silly mistakes LOL, awesome work and great advices Brian MTFBWY 😉👍
Love the video!! I feel like painting the plywood in your shop could help add to the other world-ly-ness, maybe like a nice millennium falcon tan color?
you know, we have talked about that, but I kind of like the OSB and Plywood as is. Something about it just feels right. Not necessarily in universe, but still pretty cool
This inspired me to modify the cabinet faces in my spaceship camper build. Tying to keep as much of the functionality of the existing components already there but give it that 35BBY feel lol. MTFBWY!
I like it. I have a toolbox I bought a couple of years ago that I've been thinking of dressing up, and I think that you just provided the inspiration! By the way, foamcore is great for draw liners, flexible, easy and cheap to change. Alternatively, so is EVA foam, which I've used successfully to convert a couple of carry cases.
I know a very talented guitar luthier in GB that is trying to build guitars in one day for the umpteenth time, but needs a few weeks in the end to finish a build. I think it's a common problem of every creative person to run into time schedule issues. It's the same thing for me. I really dig the look of your cabinet! If you're going to enhance the storage solution in some time, I can suggest you a solution your fellow colleague Alexandre Chappel has created. A grit for the drawer and fitting small part containers in various sizes for this grit. Everything as 3D-printed parts.
Thank you much! Its funny, i actually purchased Chappel's files! I LOVE what he has done with organization. Such a fantastic designer! We are big fans of him.
The “mistakes” made it. It looks like the paint is just a few ‘rough months in space’ away from starting to chip away. Thank you for showing us; and fantastic job on both the cabinet and the video! P.S. Brian, you can ramble all you want! Personally, I like seeing the thought process people go through. 😊
If you have LED's in small zip lock bags just punch a hole towards the top center and make a peg to slide the bags on, much like you see bags hanging in a computer store or hardware wall. That way you can still see the items in the bag.
Another great project! And I always thought, that you would love a VR headset and the Star Wars games on it! And now I see, that I was so right! So, Im looking forward, how you will be inspired by the Star Wars pinball (and he room there) or the Vader Immortal games for future projects!...
wow that cabinet is so awesome I think if you made more of them you could make a lot of money . . . you give great tips and you make very cool things on your videos and I love this video !
Me: “okay. I’m content with my room. Let’s call it finished.”
Smugglers Room: (uploads a beautiful cabinet)

Well there was this gigantic Cocktail Machine... What was a Margarita Machine?
I would say that is functional as well.
So true going to make one. My wife to have it Have to be functional so I can have it
As Bob Ross always said, there's no mistakes, just happy accidents. And he managed to make the mishap work for him. =)
Another great addition to the shop. Makes me think of my Death Star pantry doors!
Thanks bud!
Great project Brian. And I love the transparency on the inspiration piece, the hows and why’s of so many things in this episode. It really helps for those traveling on the same road,…just a bit further behind

Love those pulls, makes it look a bit like rack mounted electronics.
Thank you!!!

Thank you Brian and Carissa!
Both the video and the cabinet look amazing!
Thanks so much Gage!!! Your the best!
Love you guys… you and your wife make such a great team. I wish that I had the same in my world.
Thank you so much!
Awesome build. On the foam core dividers there is an old saying in my family "the temporary solution often becomes the permanent solution"
Very very true!
So great to see, especially walking us through your mistakes and solutions. It really came out looking amazing!!

This inspired me to modify the cabinet faces in my spaceship camper build. Tying to keep as much of the functionality of the existing components already there but give it that 35BBY feel lol. MTFBWY!
Fantastic!!
Since you rarely use the holes in 1-2-3 blocks, you should try the ones without holes. They are a lot heavier and make better weights.
I'll check those out! Thanks
OMG!!! That is so freaking awesome! Oh...and yes, I WANT ONE!!!!!
Thank you!
@@TheSmugglersRoom I still want one. Drawer pulls installed, info please, or did I miss it? 3D printed or two typical pulls together? Thanks
Thank you! You should definitely upgrade your toolboxes!
Thank you so much!
That looks amazing, as always.
Thank you! Cheers!
If you have LED's in small zip lock bags just punch a hole towards the top center and make a peg to slide the bags on, much like you see bags hanging in a computer store or hardware wall. That way you can still see the items in the bag.
awesome tip, thanks!
This turned out Awesome!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you!! 😊
I have that same tone back tool LOL.. Been using it for 15 years, still works great.
Awesome!!! Are you in the AV industry? I have been for 21 years.
@@TheSmugglersRoom I do some AV but I am a systems admin (IT GUY) Jack of all trades master of none LOL.
Amazing work, that looks fantastic 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks SO GOOD!
Thank you!
Love it. Great work Brian!
Thanks so much!
It looks great
I build drawer faces similar to that all the time it’s a great way to make the wood grain Match on the front of the cabinet
Awesome! So i'm not doing it wrong, that is great to hear. It makes sense now that you say that about the woodgrain! Thank you much!
@@TheSmugglersRoom your not doing anything wrong at all I love the channel it is inspiring
Great build ! I love the pulls .
Glad you enjoyed it
Simply Amazing!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Cabinets can also inspire ideas for that StarWars B&B.
Also nothing wrong with some Ramble-ecation with a project video. Like your geekication segments.
Agreed! The B&B is certainly in mind!
Thank you! Glad it wasn't intrusive.
Another great project! And I always thought, that you would love a VR headset and the Star Wars games on it! And now I see, that I was so right! So, Im looking forward, how you will be inspired by the Star Wars pinball (and he room there) or the Vader Immortal games for future projects!...
Thank you! Yeah, the VR is great. Vader Immortal has all kinds of goodies to reference.
Hi Brian. Perfect Job

Thank you so much!
Awesome Build. I truly Enjoyed this video 😎👍🏾
So glad to hear it! Thank you!
Nice job .
Thank you! Cheers!
Superb vid love these, keep them coming. Your shop always reminds me of Al's Robot Shack from Ratchet and Clank game on the PS2.
Glad you like it! Thank you. I'll have to check out that Ratchet and Clank shop!
