Yes, we are artists. Every single one of us. From Adam Savage, through the Smugglers Room down to the shy old guy building a train layout in his garage. We are expressing an interpretation of reality that is unique and visually appealing. Pretty much the same mission old Leo Da Vinci had in his soul while laying upside down in a scaffold in a cold chappell.
I am always amazed at how you can pick something up at a big box store, and see a project out of it and make something awe-inspiring. I was inspired by your ceiling light project, but when I go to those stores, it seems like I just get overwhelmed ... and buy nothing. You have a knack that makes this seem natural, but in shopping for stuff, I have found it very difficult. Thank you for your inspiration, it continues to motivate me to keep trying.
This video is one more reason why i love the Star Wars community. Looking forward to seeing more projects from, man! Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do!
I love it. Thats how I use to build set detail.
Thank you sir!!!
Never in a thousand parsecs did I think I'd go down a miniature red fresnel lens exogorth hole like I just did. Great video. Thank God for you. Making life better for everyone of us.
LOL! Thank you so much!
In case you're curious, I'm pretty sure the part at 8:03 is the read/write arm from a hard drive.
Well done. Having built a few electronic props myself I have a prop "maintenance" idea. If you ever need to go back into a project for a repair, the hot glue gets a bit tricky to pop free. I started using doubled sided velcro tape on parts i might have to repair or replace. I still use a lot of hot glue to attach sensors, relays, etc but for my processors or controllers I find the velcro to be a bit easier for removal.
Great tip! Thank you!
This absolutely is art!
So jealous of your greeble storage too lol
Can't get enough of the practical uses for nerded out decorations! Love this kind of stuff
So glad you liked it!
New here. Can I just say: 1: amazing channel. 2: Absolutely an art form. Art is always redefined.
Ahhh Brian I see the blue bantha milk has helped you to recover from your sickness. It has caused you to mind meld with the force to bring us young padawan's this wonderful kit bashing project Genius!!! Also loving the 80's hip hop beat, makes me want to levitate with the force! Grooooovy man!
LOL!! It did help indeed! Thank you!
I talked to the NASA guys yesterday. They have a little team trying to figure out capacity (volume) and procedures for the boxes. They can't give you better info till they figure that out. They've increased the number of things we are building for them so budgets are ok. We are now building the Martian supply and waste depot, comm array, water processing, fuel extraction, etc. 7 devices and 2 doors with procedures to operate airlocks. I'm really looking forward to these builds! Nice to see your channel growing so well!
that's great man! We'll wait to hear from them.
Brian, I’m a new subscriber to your channel and I wanted to say thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us. Your builds are so wicked and full of heart and joy.
You’ve really inspired me to make my own builds. I have two sons (one on the way) and am a stay at home mom. I hope that they become Star Wars fans so that I can’t teach them ingenuity and creativity with projects like this. And if they’re not Star Wars fans, that’s okay, because a lot of the skills you use in these designs can be adapted for other fandoms.
Anyways, it was a pleasure to see this video this morning ❤️
Thank you so much Aubrey! This comment means the world to us. Congrats on your new baby boy, we hope he enters our world healthy and happy! Appreciate you joining our community!
I always come here for inspiration, I have a 1950’s fridge that I am Star Warsing for my basement. You gave me some great ideas for it.
That is awesome! That fridge would be amazing!
I've literally been staring at a few of those blue boxes and some conduit for about a week trying to decide how I could use them for some greeblies...your timing on this one couldn't be more perfect!
Whoohoo! Great to hear. Thank you
With what I do for a living, how am I just discovering this page?!? This is so awesome!
I don't know . . . but so glad you are here!
The pointed part you held up is the actual read arm from a hard drive. It's the guy that slides over the discs to read and send data. All the circular steel pieces are also from hard drive motors.
cool! thanks
"It's not about copying, it's about coming up with something from something else" God I love that, it's mostly how I come up with ideas for my 3d models.
Thank you! It’s a great method right?
@@TheSmugglersRoom It genuinely is, not only has it saved me so much time, but it's also allowed me to make some really neat looking models that fit perfectly into an aesthetic.
Fantastic idea and build! Jawa Juice? Nope, I promised I wouldn't ask. LOL
you dont' want to know my friend . . . trust me! LOL
I’ll take a Frozen Tauntaun, please. Do you have any snacks to go with it?
This came out great. Love the use of many different kinds of parts. I’d love to see your process for the graphics. I’m guessing you’ve evolved since the last graphics vid? I really want to learn how to do such things.
Thank you Deanna! We will absolutely do something on the graphics. Super easy!
@@TheSmugglersRoom I would also love some hints so cool love it!
Found the Art of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge on Amazon, so thanks for letting us know about it.
Awesome!!!
I still like to randomly yell, "I cut it three times and it's still too short.". Sometimes people laugh sometimes they just shake their heads and walk away. I didn't say I have good jokes ok that I have jokes. :-)
Have you ever tried the Nextion displays? The advanced displays allow you to play video files from a microSD card, with sound out, too. For me, the best part is the touch interface that can talk to a microcontroller that will allow you to control anything. I have designed two commercial products that have the Nextion and use my favorite processor, the Parallax Propeller (P1 and P2). If you haven't tried it, give it a look -- I'll be you'd find a way to do neat stuff with it.
Amazing as always Brian! That screen with the drink menu is just *chef's kiss*
Thank you!!
Remote covers: Turns out white foam core is IR transparent even at 5 millimeters thick. So is the marvelous "poster board" Michaels sells. The stuff has a magical, creamy surface and makes a perfect diffuser. LEDs can shine out. IR can shoot in. You can cut the plastic sheet with scissors. Yep, the barcode on the plastic sheets says "poster board 28 x 28 inches" .
great tip! Thank you
🖤 Always fun to watch!
I'm LOVING the 80's "Funk Instrumental" music used on this! Reminds me of "Morris Day and The Time" who I've seen many times AND met and hung out with!
Great Stuff! :D
This was an awesome build!!!
Gorgeous as always! Gave me some motivation to make some new Star Wars props as well! (currently busy with a medieval room build, but I really need to go back to SciFi-Stuff asap :D)
Super job!!!
Ooh can't wait for the 50k subs special!
We are excited about it too!!
Good to see ya feeling better again! :) Always enjoy your videos and updates :) Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Absolutely brilliant my friend!! Love the design and use of every day parts! You have such a great eye for in universe aesthetics!! Well done!
Thank you so much 😀
Deep Thoughts with Jakk Haandy. Also those Phil Wise pieces remind me of the amulet from The Secret Of NIMH.
HA!! That is exactly what I was thinking at the time!
Love all the details. What a great piece.
WOW. Absolutely love that!
Thank you. So glad you like it
I love this!!! Great build this week.
Thanks Jason! So glad you liked it!
Fabulous !!!!!!!!
Thank you!
It looks amazing
Thank you!
Really great!
Thank you!
Excellent!! Would love more info on how to program the screen. I could see that really transforming my shop
We’ll try and put that together for you guys!
@@TheSmugglersRoom that’s great! Thanks for all you do.. you’re keeping 1977 alive for me and others :)
Way cool as usual!

Thank you Richard, my ch appreciated
What a great update. I'm going to copy... I mean use this for inspiration.
Awesome
Amazing. Like I need this for my future space cantina now!
Go for it!
Ya know.... I believe Mr Savage would be quite pleased with this. 👍 This just made me subscribe!
Thank you for the kind words. Welcome to the smugglers room!
@@TheSmugglersRoom thank you for the great content! I'm pretty sure I can put some of these ideas on a future rc car 👍
Love this so much. As always amazing, inspiring work Brian!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing build!!! I love your art. It’s very inspiring. Thanks for what you do.
Thank you so much!
Great video editing! Amazing once again!
You're the best! Thank you Gage!
7:26 Rodney took it. He got out of his terrarium, he is working with Jawas for spare parts.
LOL!!!
Fantastic build I love the old school big box store construction !!
Thank you bro!
Amazing as usual Brian! Nice addition to the room build!
Thank you very much
That came out amazing! Love those red buttons
Thanks man!
Glad to see you feeling better and back at your game !!
Thank you! Me too!
Always inspiring dude, I want to build more but don't have the space to put anything. One day I will do a big room build
thank you! Yeah, having room is always a challenge. That said, you should give miniature building a shot. Could be a great way to build and still have a place to store it.
This is great, and really look like something out of this world, wonderful project as always 👏👏
Thank you so much Ivan!
Man this is awesome. 👊
Thanks bro!
Another great build! Also, Phillip Wise is a great guy and a great builder.
Thank you! And yes he is, one of the best!
I was literally in that aisle at Home Depot yesterday and saw those same boxes on sale. Brilliant idea.
Sweet! Next time visit the sprinkler isle, lol, great stuff there too!
I am always amazed to see how it all look at the end. Outstanding build!
Thank you! So glad you liked it.
No...I have to say, THANK YOU!!! Between you Create Sci-fi and Odin, you guys really have me itching to make a new sci-fi short this year
Awesome build!!! You are truly amazing at this art form!!!
Thank you!! Really appreciate the kind words
@@TheSmugglersRoom you are very welcome!!!! So glad that I found your channel!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!
You should a imperial rank bar build from every day objects
Glad you are feeling better now ❤️😁
Me too!!
I'd love to know where those missing sorter bins actually disappear to! WHERE DID YOU GO!
I just bought a bouquet of those exact LEDs. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow I think. I tested them at 3v, 6v and 9v. They work fine at 3 volts. There is a loss of brightness. They are not substantially dimmer at 3 volts. You can light them with a 3032 coin cell, a rack of AA or a straight up 9v. No issues.
Yep. They are great even on a lower voltage
Love your builds, great inspiration. Making my mind start thinking about how I can do something for my own place, even if it's just a small detail here and there. Thank you for sharing!
There you go! Big or small just give it a shot!
Yet another awesome build. Truely talented, I don't know how you keep coming up with such brilliant designs
Thank you very much!
Watching this channel has inspired me so much! I have a project to build a home music studio, It’s going to be a Star Wars music Studio now thanks to the Ideas I have from here!
Thank you! So glad to hear it!
Brian, I just wanted to say thanks!
I needed to get back to the electronics for a custom Star Trek prop and your video provided just the impulse I needed.
Thank you! So glad to hear that!
My wife bought me the collector's version of that book for Christmas this year. She gets me, even if she doesn't understand me.
I know just how you feel Darrin. Cheers to wives that take care of us!
I always do a happy dance when I hear the intro music, I love it
Thank you!
That part was def from a hard drive. Great build mate, looks great!
Thank you! Yeah I figured that’s what it was.
I built a Star Wars inspired door for my closet. All Foam Core, LIghts the whole deal. Never evaluated the fact that when I am 3 steps up on a ladder 2 feet from the paper door hanging up Star Trek inspired shelves that I'd forget how many steps the ladder had. Stepped down 3 steps instead of one, fell right into the masterpiece. DIdn't go through. Did make a mess. Forced a re-build that ended in a result an order of magnitude better in execution. Still, I could have thought ahead and moved it while climbing over the trash can next to the shredder...
I use to love building props but I ended up with a room full of things that weren't functional lol. I'm hoping to get back into it now that raspberry pie board are like $20. I did love the atmosphere tho and miss it a lot
Welcome back
Thank you!
Brian what do you do with all the stuff you make and what is your all time favourite thing you have made ?
Worth the wait! I'm definitely interested in the graphics part of this. I've been planning a console build for my work desk that allows me to slide my ipad into to use as a "mount" for virtual meetings as well as for display purposes.
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it.
@@TheSmugglersRoom Would love to see a video (or two) of what/how you do the graphics part of this!
Outstanding SW Bar Menu build video, Brian!!! Looks amazing, bro!! I need to pick up a few of those Micca Digital Media Players.
Much appreciated! Those little players are awesome. You can loop the video and do all other kinds of things too.
@@TheSmugglersRoom where to find the vids though?
I don't think you are a geek I think you are a genius and this video is amazing !
🤣 thank you much!!
@@TheSmugglersRoom ruclips.net/video/eVUFPMwy71g/видео.html
That whole bit about needing inspiration and coming up with something from something else. 'does that make sense?'
Err yeah, It's why I watch this channel. I'm already planning to copy the led inside the tubes from the secret sci fi tech video. Now this video has also given me an idea for my own build.
Love this whole build though.
awesome Jade! Thank you!
another excellent build Brian! love it!!
you should do something where you only use dumpsterdive finds to build something.. out of nothing ^.~
Amazing 👏 as always, you could be a prop maker for a great star wars Fan Film, with minimal cost, you can build some impressive back drops + pros, greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Wow, thanks!
Awesome build.
Funny side note…I have heard in the trades, electrical boxes have been harder to find in big box stores and no one knows why. However, I think anyone who follows this channel knows why.
Also, the part you didn’t know, but correctly guessed as part of a hdd. It is the read/write heads for the hard drive disc platter. (Shameless plug = my hard drive video shows where it fits in the hdd)
Lastly, I love to see you use the display parts you used in the falcon bench again. I bought one after that episode and have held onto it, much like your led buttons…waiting for the right project to use it on.
awesome stuff! Thank you Garland!
7:53 Look, sir! Droids!
Impressive work! it is always nice to do some found object art. I noticed you using the needlenose for tightening a bolt. Maybe you have ratchet wrenches already and they were not just in close range, but HF has a 4 set for like $12 - I think i got mine for $8 on sale. Metric and SAE versions. I use them a lot.
Thanks for the tips! I do have a ratchet set, however the needlenose was right there . . . so you know, every tool's a hammer ;)
Brian, in re: ‘media player’ - “Toldja :) now you will have them everywhere :)”
As always thank YOU for inspiring me…and so many of us. Now I/we know who inspired you :D
-K
LOL!! yes indeed! Thank you!!
Another crazy build from nothing..... 👏
The little arm you were questioning where it's from, is actually the arm that moves inside your harddrive to read the data of the fysical disc, similar to a record players arm.... 🤓 #fyi #itgeek #computerspecialist
Thank you! Appreciated the info!
Looking great do you happen to have a link for that book it awesome! Ye that little arm was from a harddrive
DUDE! Great build as always! Are we ever going to see some fat bantha ale stickers or shirts?
Thank you! And yes, you sure are. Sorry for the delays. It’s been a challenge to get that rolling again.
I tryed making one it’s cool I wish I had more greebies
Awesome! Yep, Greeblies are the key
Thank you for your excellent instructional videos!!! Please I would need to know where I can download a reel that is a star field and hyperspace travel front, and side. Thank you!!!
not sure. You'd have to create one from scratch likely.
Curious what kind of screens you all use on your builds?
