As far as your comments about spraying/sprayers and how you don't like the ones that you have tried: I was of the same opinion, but that was because I was using the lower end brands of sprayers. I finally pulled the trigger and bought a top of the line 5 Stage Fuji HVLP Sprayer. I retrofitted it with a 3M PPS disposable cup system and now spraying is like living a dream. Super easy to use, suoer easy to clean up and all my finishes (shellac, latex, oil, poly, etc) come out looking like a factory finish. Spend the money and you won't be disappointed.

One easy addition if your network gear is on rails and not just hanging on ears would be linear actuators to rack out each unit.
It would make use of the dead space behind your decorative panels.
I've been planning on doing this with my own rack along with the intro to Welcome to the Machine timed to the extension of the actuator.
Some sort of smoke Gen would be awesome to provide that cryo effect, but I'm not sure what would produce dense white smoke that's oder less and residue free without being high maintenance.
