@@SlimPotatohead Or, if you still want to stash it, just get a few ring type ones and leave them on the curtain. Hold them together with a carabiner and you can slide them all on before you clip the rods into place. You could even mark one or two of the rings so you know between which ones you need to put your cord/clip.
Great idea, though! I'm definitely taking some notes for the bus build I'm working on.

    • @SlimPotatohead

The shower hooks are definitely the weak part of the concept. What I may try are velcro straps on the curtains that are wide enough to pass over the pipe elbows of the shower rod. They would stay on the back curtain and go over the rod in seconds. But I think I'd still keep the front curtain separate. Should cut set-up time in half. Thanks! SP

I'm planning something *very* similar for "the van in my head" (One day!!!)
Raised toilet (you sit down!) With a slide out tray underneath.
Submersible pump clipped to the side for waste water (no outside drain?)
      Similar shower curtain to yours.
Your pump/ shower head is great, I'll be stealing that pump!
I was along similar lines with the heater as well, 12v fishtank heater.
As you say, 5-10 litres @42° is fine, why over heat water to add cold?

The skin cells, etc, washed off your body can attract insects and/or mice to the smell. In a camping area, you may not want flies, etc. attracted to the underside of your camper - and nearby campers don't want that, either.

    • @SlimPotatohead
      @SlimPotatohead  4 года назад +36

@Cherrie McKinstry, don't be fooled by the "environmentally friendly" slogan. The issue is the sudsing ingredient. Insects and other important creatures breath through their skin. Sudsing agents drown them where water normally is just repelled. SP

I'd use 3.5-inch carabiner clips, the type I use on the ends of my mountain climbing rope, for the curtains, Slim. The bonus is they're detachable and reusable for a thousand different uses and because they're made of aluminum for light weight, they don't conduct electricity so you can use them confidently to clip electrical lines in and around the trailer too. And to store several of them, you can clip them into a chain which you can use to extend the suspension of your overbed cargo net.

That was awesome, Slim! We use a similar set up at our cabin...and depending on the weather we can use it outside as well. When we are there in warmer weather, I leave one of those black shower bags on the roof of the cabin and let the water heat up and then shower when it's ready with the hose hanging off the roof. We are miles from civilization, so there is no risk of looky loos! Just wondering if using fabric type shower curtains would be easier in your setup. They fold up smaller than the plastic and you might be able to leave them attached to the curtain rod, and not have to reattach them at all. Just an idea! Take care! From BC-Sue

Yes I wondering that too , I rather have a toilet for the middle of the night than a shower , I can always shower anywhere its available 😅

You could twist tie the shower rings together already on a length of the pvc pipe. So when you put the shower curtain rod together it is already on there.

Brilliant Slim! You are making setting up your little off road / off grid camper, a lot of fun. Not to mention there is much more self satisfaction in what you are building then some guy that spends a few hundred grand for a fancy self contained rig! Please keep the videos coming. They check all the boxes, educational, inspirational, and just flat out entertaining. Thank you!

Well done! There are shower curtain hooks that don't snap, they just hook over the rod and have a smaller hook.for curtain. That would be very fast to put up.

Also to heat the water in the bucket you use to shower - get an immersion heater. It's basically a metal stick you drop in the water, then plug it in. It won't boil the water, but it will warm it to a temp that's pleasant for showering. Plus it's fairly small and would fit in with the pack of other shower stuff under the seat.

Immersive heaters need a lot of electricity. Propane uses none. SP

That is really neat how you built that shower from scratch. You always come up with low budget ideas that function well. I like the fan fix as well.

Love your water calculation. I have 2 - 40 US gallon fresh water tanks in my Cougar 31sqb. By myself boondocking I typically use 35 to 40 gallons in 14 days. However, when my wife is with me, we go through all 80 gallons in 9 or 10 days. The shower is definitely the difference.

Slim. Another way to heat water with solar is a camp shower. It's basically a 5 Gallon black vinyl bag that is hung or placed in the sun (it has it's own hose. you wouldn't need it) You could use it to heat the water on hot days or boost the temperature prior to boiling to save LP. gas and reserves the panel to charge the battery. Hope this helps. Thanks for the videos!
