What's shocking is that by 1911, Tumbleweed is so decrepit, it looks like it has been abandoned for many years rather than less than four... and if I remember correctly, the sheriff's office is the building that has sustained the most damage, what with its crumbled walls and collapsed roof. This gives your theory about Sheriff Freeman that much more credibility. Well done, once again!

@@James-uu6xs actually it's not unrealistic and was pritty common. The biggest issue with New Austin in general is that it's basically set in 1899. Rockstar didn't make a 1907 version of New Austin because of the whatever reason New Austin was pulled from the main game. It's impossible for New Austin settlements to change so much in only 4 years (Thieves' Landing, McFarlane's ranch, Tumbleweed etc.). Hidden Arthur dialogue basically proves that New Austin is stuck in 1899.

I haven’t played all the bounty missions for sheriff freeman yet but I have a few details to back up this story and fill in the blanks. So you’ll notice in rdr 1 that the jail in tumbleweed has been completely destroyed, most likely by explosions. Around 1907 the del lobo gang were wrecking havoc all over new Austin and frequently visited towns in the region and killed the towns deputies and drove off the others. They did this in armadillo (which is one of the reasons why the sheriff of armadillo left). Sheriff freeman was engaged in a violent crusade against the del lobos. See where this is going? When you walk around the town of tumbleweed you can hear some npcs expressing their discontent with the sheriff. The townspeople got fed up with him and then one day the del lobos rode into town. They were probably there to break some of their friends out of Freeman’s jail. In rdr1 you’ll notice the bars of the cell are gone and the wall where the cell was had been blown away. Of course freeman probably one shotted a lot of the outlaws that night but the del lobos are a huge gang with a lot of members, this, combined with the disgruntled locals who probably wanted to see freeman dead would have been an overwhelming force which even this defiant badass could not prevail against. The explosions from the del lobos dynamite probably stunned sheriff freeman and rattled his head. He was probably shot a couple of times. But I think the story gets even more outrageous. There was a moment in this video where Marshall Johnson mentions linching. It’s possible that once the sheriff was wounded by dynamite and gunfire, someone decided it would be fun to string the fellow up. The townspeople did nothing to stop it, it might have even been their idea, for they had become enraged by the sheriffs frequent speeches and cold blooded murders. When the smoke cleared the jail had been bombed, many were killed in the chaos, and tumbleweed had become the lawless place that it was in rdr1. Samuel Freeman was a cool guy. He had guts. As a black guy in America in 1907, he probably saw the worst of what lawlessness, murder and corruption can do. He wanted to create a place where life was fair and nobody was above the law. He almost accomplished that goal. But in his war against crime, he became desensitized to violence and somehow became just as brutal and despised as the people he fought against. A lot of people alive today probably have some idea how he must have felt.
There can be a parallelism with strange man tho. When Armadillo flourish, Tumbleweed became a ghost city. There are not many reasons why a railroad pass through a sick city, can be the strange man effect. Devil can be a reference to him
First Strange Man hits us with a mindblowing, catchy song and then he continues to entertain us with these great videos. Not gonna lie but I think you deserve much more than what you normally get.
Okay so I finished watching and I think you’re on the right track, but that still doesn’t explain the howling and barking dog which can be heard when you’re in the church looking at the carving, which is what many speculate to be “the beast”. What do you think about that?
@@snickerdoodle9267 I am sure the beast is Freeman hell if you bring in one of the del lobos to Freeman he'll say he's crazy and scalping people (something like that...), I mean the guy is clearly driven crazy with his "law" and I'm sure some people saw it as a devil taking possession of him after he started killing innocent people
Beautifully constructed investigation and video. This video got my imagination running, and I started to wonder if Freeman might still be alive somewhere during the events of RDR1. And then I thought, no... he’s a man who’d go down with his town. And I imagine the town getting smaller and weaker as people leave, while Freeman wages his war against the Del Lobos and any disobedient people. And I can imagine the Del Lobos mounting an attack against what remains of Tumbleweed, intent on freeing any of their members who Freeman still has locked up. And I imagine Freeman going down in one hell of a gunfight in his once bustling town.

Freeman is easily one my most favorite side characters in RDR2. He's well written and honestly not hyper black and white either. Can't wait for the lawmen update for RDR2 comes out so we can work for him more!
I saw the Sherriff of Tumbleweed as bad as the men he hunted. I mean, I can understand why he resorted to such measures like he did, given the type of men he was at war with, but in the process of doing so, he ended becoming no better they they were. His character reminds me a lot of Little Bill from Unforgiven: A brutal and unforgiving sadist, who because he wore a badge, and therefore was supposed to represent law and order, immediately saw himself as the good guy, even though his actions were not those of a good or just man. And in regards to his character, and why he needed to hold himself to a higher level of conduct than what he did, I'm reminded of a piece of diolgue from Batman Begins, when Henri Duccard, who later turned out to be Ras Al-Ghul, asks Bruce to execute a murderer that the league has been holding as prisoner, and Bruce refuses. "Your compassion is a weakness your enemies will not share." - Duccard. "That's why it's so important: It seperates us from them." - Bruce.

Well, what can I say, you sir have produced some masterpieces, I’ve only just found your channel today and watch I don’t know maybe 10 or videos so far, you have me gripped and you have new subscriber, it’s borderline genius what you have produced.
He didn't do anything. He's protecting his town and not letting the lack of enforcement let the gangs just get back who ever they want after arrested. They live in the harshest place in rdr, if it want for freeman the town would probs already be over run. You may have reason to kill him between the two games but during redemption 2 he's just doing what he has to.
Contex - It's Just A Ride He’s disobeying the very same law he claims to uphold. He has turned all of his opinions into de-facto law. Written by only Freeman, and only passed by Freeman. The US Constitution is entirely ignored and regularly violated. He is the very epitome of a tyrant. This is also the exact opposite of the “Rule of Law” he preaches, because it is instead a dictatorship. A sheriff executing hogtied people without trial is effectively murder, and verbally disagreeing with him leads you to getting blasted by his shotgun. He’s become just as bad, if not worse than the Del-Lobo gang because not only does he commit crimes, he exempts himself from any punishment. His brutality also leads the Del-Lobo gang to retaliate, further putting the townsfolk in even more danger as a result of this personal rivalry of violence he’s created. This is reinforced by some of the gang claiming he hunts them by pinning random crimes on them so he can get rid of them quicker.
@@ponraul1221 I'll say it again. If it wasn't for freeman the town would probably already be overun. If he didn't kill that murderer they would have come and got him at the expense of hostages. You want to talk about the constitution as if that's going to stop these people being raped, robbed and murdered. This is the most wild, under policed area of rdr and your trying to compare Freeman to rapists and mass killers of the innocent because he puts one in the back of the actual rapists heads. Executing people without trial is murder and whether you like it or not, can be used for the greater good even if by its lawful definition its wrong. That being said most of the scum killed in rdr are without a trial and to compare those killers with the del lobos is pretty mental, you do know what the Waltons gang and del lobos actually do right? Freeman is not perfect but he did what he had to in a town that regardless of your constitution, wasn't being protected properly by it. And retaliate? I've heard that recently about the riots. "Let it be or they'll get worse". I disagree. Fight them hard. Take them out or die trying. I agree that Freeman is being dictatorial in his approach but better then letting the gangs dictate. I'd prefer a strict policeman protecting my town from rapist and murderers then not doing so and being left like Armadillo with no sheriff atall.
@@ponraul1221 Also, again after rdr2 you may well have a case but during it, Freeman keeps Armadillo safe from a much worse aggressor even if that's at the occasional expense of the constitution. After business stops and money leaves Tumbleweed I can imagine he gets alot worse. I also think the devil inside the beast reference could be for the dog that barks in rdr 1 in Tumbleweed, maybe meaning rabies from rabid dogs or something similar plagued Tumbleweed ontop of everything it was already going through.
Contex - It's Just A Ride The thing is, he still violates the same law he claims to uphold. The very purpose of the US Constitution is to prevent tyrannical government (which is what Freeman becomes). It’s not designed to individually list specific crimes and their punishments. Any “law” in violation of the Constitution is null and void. To violate it is also a crime called “Deprivation of rights under the color of law”. This is exemplified by when you verbally disagree with Freeman, you get blasted in the face, or when the hogtied suspect is executed. Due to this, Del-Lobo retaliation gets at least some form of credibility, and to them, justification. My point is, Freeman is no different than any other random individual being a vigilante whom writes their own rules. He is not a lawful sheriff or policeman regardless of your opinions of right and wrong, and the nature of his actions according to this. He’s simply a vigilante with a shiny star on his jacket. That’s the entire point of his depiction.
i dont think freeman lost his mind... i think that the town simply became more lawless because many left, and many bad people arrive... and freeman might retired because the develop of armadillo , so with his town death its also mean the end of his carrer

Another similarity between Freeman and Dutch is the double revolver holsters
Wish Arthur and John could wear holsters like that. The stupid holster in front is so ugly and unrealistic.
@@James-uu6xs actually it's not unrealistic and was pritty common. Alot of men wore it like that so after they shoot all bullets with one revolver they could easily grab a 2nd one with their main hand. By that they could avoid the slow prosses of reloading. Especially due to its pritty dumb to have a gun in each hand due to you cant properly aim with it. Back then it was better to shoot less in order for the enemy to reload before you.

This man is not strange, it's a amazing man. Thank you for your work
I haven’t played all the bounty missions for sheriff freeman yet but I have a few details to back up this story and fill in the blanks.
Devil can be a reference to him
I killed Freeman right after he executed the hog-tied suspect for being a tyrant. He re-spawned two days later : /

And I imagine Freeman going down in one hell of a gunfight in his once bustling town.

If I'm not mistaken, Freeman also has a drinking habit, one he tries to keep hidden. This could be a contributor to his potential actions.

i did all the missions for freeman looks like im gonna be bringing my schoelfield to give freeman a lesson. Ill put him down like i did micah
