Red Dead Revolver is a 2004 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It is the first entry in the Red Dead series, and was released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in May 2004.[1] Set in the 1880s, during the American frontier, the single-player story follows bounty hunter Red Harlow's quest for revenge after the murder of his parents. A local multiplayer mode allows up to two players to face off against each other or AI-controlled bots in free-for-all battles.
Rockstar San Diego (then known as Angel Studios) began work on Red Dead Revolver with Capcom's funding in 2000. During the development, Angel Studios was acquired and rebranded by Rockstar Games. After Yoshiki Okamoto left Capcom in 2003, Red Dead Revolver was canceled until Rockstar Games acquired the rights to the game and revived it later that year. The game received mixed to positive reviews from critics, and sold moderately well. A spiritual successor, Red Dead Redemption, was released in May 2010, and a third game, Red Dead Redemption 2, was released in October 2018.

Red Dead Revolver is a true "Wild West" story. Red Dead Redemption and RDR2 are not about the wild west, they are about the changing time between wild west and tamed west into civilization.

Red dead revolver is a spaghetti western, feels more like the classical western movies with simple moral lines and cowboys having attitudes similar to knights in Arthurian legends.
Red dead redemption is more like the subversion of that.

Fun fact: Red Dead Revolver was initially owned by Capcom as they were the publishers of Angel Studio, the developers behind the game. At first the game was supposed to be a more Japanese style arcade shooter, but after Take Two bought the studio and rebranded it as Rockstar San Diego, they reworked the game into what it is now.

@@tarzan5932 Well no shit that it's basically GTA western. They did make Red Dead Revolver which was a pretty terrible game in comparison to GUN. Rockstar took note of Gun's success and when they finally did release RD1, they took everything that worked in GUN, including a lot of its mechanics/gameplay, and Rockstar vastly improved their own franchise. This isn't even new news, the inspiration from GUN was well noted by fans and game critics.
GUN feels more like a predecessor to what Red Dead would eventually become. It's still a great game for its era.

This game was paying homage to all the legendary Spaghetti Westerns that had a cultural impact during the 1960s and 1970s. At the time, the developers gained the rights to some of the musical scores from said spaghetti westerns to create an immersive experience. The main theme is the main theme from Lo Chiamavano King, The tutorial section is entitled "Jackie" from the Minnesota Clay. Even some of the characters are nods to iconic spaghetti western characters. Mister Black for instance was based off Franco Nero's Django since he has a gatling gun in his coffin. While not a western reference, Mister Kelly is based on Leon the Professional.
Overall, this is a really fun game and I really wish they would go back and attempt a remaster of this.
